Danny was almost there. He would reach Penny; he would protect her from whatever was kidnapping his past blind dates.
"Phantom," an angry voice shouted.
Danny had a bad feeling about that voice.
'Clockwork, please don't let that be who I think it is,' Danny thought, terrified that he wasn't about to see who he thought he was going to see
Danny turned around and floating with the sun behind him, his arms crossed, a furious scowl on his face was the man of steel.
'Yeah, I've got no luck,' Danny thought, horrified.
"Tell me where Supergirl and the other abducted girls are" Superman ordered "now."
Danny gulped "listen, Superman, I know how this looks, but I'm not behind this."
Superman didn't seem to believe him flying fast enough to make a sonic boom. The man of steel closed the distance between them, punching him in the face. Danny flew back buildings moving past him in a blur. Finally, he crashed through a billboard for a Wizard Kelly hotel.
Danny rubbed his sore jaw that punch had felt like something from Pariah Dark's mace.
There was a reason why people said this guy was the best of the best.
"Surrender now, Phantom, you're outnumbered," Superman said, appearing over him still looking ticked off.
Outnumbered
Outmatched maybe but not outnumbered
Then Danny heard a mechanical hum, and his already bad luck got worse when a green repulsor blast flew at him. Danny barely got a shield up in time to block it.
Hovering nearby was one of the leaders of the Avengers Iron Man "you know, props to you kid ticking off Big blue," Ironman quipped, holding up a hand "now why don't you be a good kid and tell us where the girls are"
The only thought going through Danny's mind right now was that he was toast.
"Look, I'm trying to tell you it's not me. Someone's framing me," Danny tried to explain.
"Uh-huh, someone who is a 100% genetic match for you," iron man asked sarcastically "not even identical twins have DNA that much in common."
Wait, a one hundred percent genetic match
Danny knew who was behind this.
Vlad was doing clones again.
But how did he get his midmorph DNA?
Unless it wasn't HIS DNA
'Dani, ' Danny thought, worried.
Now he just needed to get out of here alive.
Superman flew at him again, throwing a punch. Danny turned intangible, not going to risk getting hit by that again flying up to get more altitude.
Ironman fired missiles at him. Danny would have laughed that this wouldn't work while intangible, but the missiles exploded, hitting him.
"You like the toys," Iron Man asked. "I made this armor after the ghost of Napoleon tried to use my body to take over the world."
Great Tony Stark had anti-ghost gear.
This couldn't get any worse.
Superman grabbed him from behind, holding his arms against his side "last chance to surrender, son, tell us where the girls are" Superman squeezed harder, "or I might just stop holding back."
Wait, he was HOLDING BACK.
It was taking all of his willpower not to power down.
Iron Man flew up to him, putting a finger up to his helmet "keep your tights on, big blue once I hack into his system, we'll know where the girls are"
Well, goodbye, secret identity.
The lights on Iron Man's armor flickered for a second, and he started to lose altitude. "Uh, you ok, Dude," Danny asked, sounding worried.
"Tony," Superman asked, also sounding worried.
"Phantoms got a virus in his system. It's messing with my thrusters," Ironman said before his boots shut down and he began falling to the ground. Superman let him go flying down. He caught the armored avenger.
Danny took the opportunity to run. Instead, turning invisible and intangible, he flew into a dumpster.
He couldn't hide, not as Phantom Ironman and Superman would be looking for him.
Wait a minute
Danny smiled. They'd be looking for Phantom, not Fenton.
Transforming Danny saw the two superheroes searching the skies for him. Danny legs it to the alley and heads down the street. Danny felt his phone buzz pulling it out. He got a text from Tucker.
"You ok, Dude someone tried to hack into the Fenton phones."
"Good thing I left a virus for anyone who tried"
Danny grinned; leave it to Tucker to make a virus to keep out Iron Man.
Danny quickly replied
"Tucker, you rock"
Not bothering to see what reply Tucker would send, Danny headed down the street towards his girlfriend's house.
He had to save her before Vlad's clone minions got to her.
Danny wished he was in better shape when he wasn't using his powers. Instead, he'd been running for five minutes following a map on his phone to Penny's address.
He really should put more effort into gym class.
'Ok, something Sam was right about exercise ' Danny thought he had to get to Penny.
Before Vlad's clone got to her
How did he even make so many clones while running through town? Danny had seen a tv in the window of an electronics store playing an article about the kidnapped girls.
Twenty-six girls had been kidnapped, including Sam and the blonde girl that he didn't know, with Danny as the main subject, and he was the suspect in the disappearance of another one.
That meant Vlad had more than twenty clones of him.
And Danny got the feeling that they wouldn't be as easy to beat as the original clones were.
Finally, Danny made it to Penny's street and was horrified at what he saw.
There was a giant hole where the front door should be stepping out of the hole holding his girlfriend bridal style was another version of him.
Where the hecks were Superman and Iron Man? Sure the virus may have kept Iron man busy, but where was Superman.
"Get your hands off of her," Danny yelled, not caring if the other superheroes saw him. He went ghost and flew at the other him.
The other him looked with an almost guilty look in his eye as he brought up one of his hands, sending a wave of green power flying at Danny, sending him flying back. He crashed into a car.
Danny tried to stand up and fight, but he was too weak from flying here, and his butt-kicking got from Superman and Iron Man.
"I'm sorry, brother," the other him said, "but I must follow my father's will," he said before turning green energy. He vanished, taking Penny with him.
"NOOOOO" Danny yelled, trying to stand back on his feet but ending up falling over.
He failed
"Penny," Danny said pitifully, slamming his fist against the street.
