Water Battlefield (Night)
"Let's bring this blowhard down!" Dominic said, bringing out a Strange Ball. "Break the world, Spiritomb!" The orb tore through the air, popping open in a bright green light. A stone with eerie markings fell onto the deck, and soon after, a phantasmal purple smoke was emanating from them, forming into a malicious face.
'Spiritomb? Looks creepy.' Asui thought to herself, unknowingly being affected by Pressure. With her hand shaking, she raised the Pokedex.
"Spiritomb, the Forbidden Pokemon. Type: Ghost/Dark. It lays curses by thinking wicked thoughts. Writings tell that this Pokemon was born out of the assembly of five score and eight malevolent spirits. Its constant mischief and misdeeds resulted in it being bound to an Odd Keystone by a mysterious spell."
"Dragalge, come back." Pieuvre said, sending his Pokemon back to its Poke Ball. He then brought out a Dive Ball. "Ariados, now!" The captain threw the ball, releasing the spider Pokemon. Curious, Asui used the Pokedex against.
"Ariados, the Long Leg Pokemon. Type: Bug/Poison. Ariados' feet are tipped with tiny hooked claws that enable it to scuttle on ceilings and vertical walls. This Pokemon constricts the foe with thin and strong silk webbing."
'Spiritomb's too slow to execute an attack first. The only reason I brought it out was because Dragalge was on the verge of falling asleep. But no matter. As long as it can withstand Ariados' first Move, I should be able to get past this round.' Dominic thought to himself, keeping a close watch on the Bug-Type's movements.
"Use Toxic Thread!" Pieuvre commanded. His Pokemon launched a glowing purple string at Spiritomb, wrapping around the Ghost-Type, poisoning it.
"Perfect." Dominic said, confusing Asui and Pieuvre. "Now, use Facade!" With a wicked grin, Spiritomb headbutted Ariados, dealing immense damage and launching it into the ship's helm. "In case you forgot, allow me to enlighten you. Facade, while normally weak, gains an extreme power boost when Spiritomb is afflicted with a Status Condition."
'So, getting poisoned was a good thing?' Asui thought to herself.
"You arrogant little brat. I'm going to end you!" Pieuvre yelled. "Ariados, X-Scissor!" Filled with the same rage as its trainer, Ariados' body started to glow in a bright lime-green color. It then lunged at its opponent, slashing twice at Spiritomb. The Forbidden Pokemon staggered, heavily injured by the attack.
"So, its Ability is Swarm." Dominic realized. "That explains how it managed to let out an attack like that even after being hit by Facade. Couple that with the poison, and you've got me in a tough spot." The blonde looked in Spiritomb's direction. "Can you still battle?" he asked. The Pokemon cackled, as if the damage it's taken so far was nothing. "Of course. Then we'll use Dark Pulse!" The Forbidden Pokemon opened its mouth, and from it, a beam of wicked energy shot forth.
"Counter with Fell Stinger!" Ariados' horn started to glow lime-green before it lunged forward. It crashed into Dark Pulse, taking damage as it executed its own. Through sheer force of will, as well as the power of Swarm, it managed to strike Spiritomb, which resulted in an explosion of dark energy. When the smoke cleared, Spiritomb was knocked out, only its Odd Keystone visible on the deck.
"Where did it go?" Asui asked.
"When Spiritomb loses consciousness, it retreats into the Odd Keystone to heal." Dominic explained, sending Spiritomb back to its Poke Ball. 'If Fell Stinger knocked it out, then Ariados will be even more dangerous than before. But if it battled this one...' The blonde brought out a Poke Ball. He then threw it into the sky, where it opened. Nobody expected the Pokemon that came out.
"Is... Is that... Is that a Wailord!?" Pieurve screamed in terror. The massive Pokemon crashed into the sea, creating a wave that almost hit the boat.
'It's gigantic!' Asui thought to herself, looking out at Wailord's body. She got the Pokedex ready, wondering about the Water-Type.
"Wailord, the Float Whale Pokemon. Type: Water. Wailord is the second-largest of all identified Pokemon up to now. This giant Pokemon swims languorously in the vast open sea, eating massive amounts of food at once with its enormous mouth."
"Take it out in one shot! Water Spout!" Dominic commanded. The whale Pokemon let out a deep cry as it pushed a massive amount of water from its blowhole. The water all fell onto Ariados, knocking it out almost instantly. Somehow, nobody else got wet.
"Why you... Why you... Why you..." Pieurve said, clenching his fists as he brought Ariados back to its Poke Ball. "YOU BASTARD! I know the perfect Pokemon to annihilate that Wailord of yours! Come out, Electivire!" The captain threw an Ultra Ball, releasing a yeti-like Pokemon with two black tails and yellow fur.
'That looks strong.' Asui said, readying the Pokedex.
"Electivire, the Thunderbolt Pokemon. Type: Electric. Its Evolution was induced by an unusual item, and its electrical output rises along with its heart rate. From its tails, it can unleash an electric current measuring 20,000 volts."
'Does Wailord stand a chance?' the greenette wondered.
'So, he went with an Electric-Type. Makes sense, Wailord is practically unbeatable unless you exploit its weaknesses.' Dominic thought to himself.
"It doesn't matter how tough your Pokemon are, I remember all of your own weaknesses!" Pieurve proclaimed. "Rain Dance!"
Dominic's eyes widened at that. Electivire let out a roar that touched the heavens, forming a gigantic storm cloud that darkened the sea. The blonde's aura started blazing to life as rain fell onto the boat. 'He didn't bring out Electivire because it could beat Wailord. He brought it out so he could stop me from issuing commands.' Dominic realized. Something was keeping him from getting wet, but he also appeared to get more and more tired. 'I can't keep this up and tell Wailord what to do at the same time.'
"Pathetic. What kind of seafarer can't handle a bit of rain?" Pieurve asked rhetorically as he looked down on his opponent. "Electivire, Thunder!" The yellow Pokemon's body surged with electricity as it roared, causing a bolt of lightning to descend on Wailord. The attack struck at speeds too fast for the Float Whale Pokemon to dodge, which resulted in it being knocked out. Despite being so large, a Move that strong was more than enough to take it out.
'I may hate him, but I can't deny his intelligence.' Dominic said, almost exhausted. 'He used Rain Dance, knowing that it would not only allow Thunder to strike with 100% accuracy, but that it would also hinder my ability to command my Pokemon.' The blonde's eye flickered as he grit his teeth. 'Looks like I don't have a choice. I'll have to resort to my secret weapon so soon.'
