In the Kanto region, there are many Pokemon and Pokemon trainers too. Battling other trainers, challenging gym leaders to collect all eight badges to challenge the Elite Four. A trainer starts their Pokemon journey at the young age of ten, but the day Kaleigh Blythe started her Pokemon journey was the night before her tenth birthday.

Kaleigh took a shaky breath in as she closed the door to her room. She had checked on her mother to see if she was nearby. Kaleigh stepped lightly to her window and pushed it up to open it. As she started to climb out the window it was 11:45 PM. She was careful when she placed her feet in sturdy holes and grooves on the outside wall.

Once safe on the ground she peeked her head around the side of her house. The city of Celadon was pretty quiet at this time of night other than the casino "Games Corner" which was bustling. With only the street lamps to guide the way, Kaleigh started to run for the edge of the city. She stuck to dead streets to avoid being taken back to her mother.

"Hand over your Pokemon!"

Kaleigh was just checking around a corner when she heard the demand from behind herself. She turned her head to look behind, she then squinted her eyes to see two fuzzy people dressed in black with a red bloch on what she had assumed to be their chest.

"I don't have any" Kaleigh stated simply. The two people looked at each other for a moment. Both shared a look of confusion before they reached and pulled out something that Kaleigh could just make out to be a pokéball.

"Yeah right! You think we're going to fall for that!"

Kaleigh took a step back as her eyes widened. She raised her hands quickly while shaking her head. Her heart started to pound in her chest. The two trainers lowered their hands with the pokéball in them.

"What's with your arms?" One of them questioned.

Kaleigh looked at both her arms before immediately lowering them behind her back. The two trainers then looked closer at the girl in front of them. From her wrists to her elbows were covered in scars of burns and thin lines, she had no shoes on, and from her ankles to her knees were similar scars as well. Kaleigh's blonde hair came down to her lower back, and all she had for clothes were a black tank top and filthy ripped denim shorts.

The trainers could easily tell the world had failed the child in front of them. They started to put their pokéballs away as they couldn't be any Pokemon with a child who looked as pathetic as she looked. But the movement made the child jump and booked it away from the trainers.

Kaleigh ran as fast as she could, her chest started to burn the more she ran demanding more air than she could take in. She kept her eyes forward while she ran with a determined mind she ran out of the city and slowed to a stop. Kaleigh looked back as she took deep breaths in. She gave a soft small chuckle before the corners of her mouth moved up.

"Happy Birthday Kaleigh," She chimed to herself as she turned to look at the city of Celadon.

"You're finally free." She closed her eyes, smiling to herself before she turned away and started along the path ahead of her. She paid no mind to the burn sensation from her feet, or the tiredness that crept up, she kept on going.

As the sun started to rise, Kaleigh felt comfortable in the distance from her home to finally take a break. She raised her right hand and rubbed her face while her mouth opened wide to yawn. She sat down under a tree and closed her eyes deciding a small rest was needed. Kaleigh fell asleep in a matter of seconds; the path had remained quiet as she rested for an hour. When she started to stir she felt something on her right arm, slowly Kaleigh opened her eyes and tilted her head to the right slightly.

"AHHHHH!" Kaleigh screamed as she saw on her arm a Caterpie. It gently rubbed its head against her arm, not startled by her scream. Kaleigh swung her arm around quickly which knocked the Pokemon off her. She then jumped away from Caterpie before she ran off.

Once far away enough Kaleigh stopped and took a couple of deep breaths. When she had calmed down she squinted her eyes to look around her surroundings. Kaleigh was outside a small town, but the name of it she didn't know. With a shook of her head, she walked in and looked around. Kaleigh saw many shops full of things she'd never seen. She walked over to a window of a shop that had a sweet fragrance and looked inside.

As Kaleigh peaked into the window she squinted her eyes and saw someone inside making treats. She tilted her head down to her stomach as it growled. She took a small breath in before she stepped away and shook her head again.

"Mommy! Mommy! What's wrong with that girl?"

Kaleigh looked to the left of her where the voice came from and saw a little boy who tugged at his mother's hand while with his other hand, he pointed at Kaleigh. She then took notice of the stares she got from other people, before swiftly she moved along. While she was walking away a man stepped in front of her with a hand out to stop her. This made her pull her right arm up to protect herself.

"Hello little lady, do you need any help? Are you lost? Or were you kidnapped?" The man's questions seemed to be genuine, but Kaleigh's eyes were full of fear shook her head. She took another step back away from the man but bumped into something.

"Elebu." Kaleigh looked behind her and saw an Electabuzz. Gasping She ran forward into the man before she jumped away from him as well. Her body trembling as she crossed her arms to help her body tight and let out a shaky breath.

"Oh! I'm sorry, my Electabuzz didn't mean to scare you." The man tried to solace the child. "We just want to help you, okay? How about you come wi-" Before the man could finish his sentence Kaleigh turned around and ran away. She ran through the town and out into the forest.

"I can't trust anyone…" Kaleigh breathed out while she ran. She slowed her pace once she felt she had made a safe distance from the town. Her stomach rumbled once again which made her rub it with her right hand. Continuing to walk she kept an eye out for anything to eat, squinting her eyes as she watched the bushes and up at the trees as she passed them.

As time went by Kaleigh was ecstatic when she saw red spheres in a tree ahead of her. Once at the tree, she smiled as she used her tank top to help carry the apples she picked, she took a bite of one as she picked more. She looked down at the apples she had while she walked and frowned slightly.

"I can't carry these everywhere…"

Kaleigh sighed softly, she turned around once again and found a plant with big leaves. She smiled as she got an idea and picked three leaves from the plant. She laid them on the ground overlapping one another. She then placed the apples she had picked on them and grabbed the corners of the leaves to carry them like a bag.

She took another bite of her first apple as she started to follow the path through the forest. She came around a bush but dropped the apple she had been eating and backed up quickly. Her hand shook as she hid behind the bush.

Around the bush was a flock of Pokemon that looked to be Spearows. When she peaked around the corner, Kaleigh watched the Spearows pecking at some blue thing that rolled from the force.

While watching Kaleigh, she could not help but lean close and squint her eyes more to see what the blue object was. She was able to find out that it was a Pokemon egg. She kind of wanted to help the defenceless thing. But her legs just would not move. Turning away, she closed her eyes and shook her head.

Kaleigh's head shot up as she felt a pulse of sorrow. In a blink of an eye, she raced towards the Spearows and aimlessly swung her leaf bag around.

"Leave the egg alone!" Kaleigh shouted at the Pokemon as the Spearow's 'kawed' at her and attempted to attack but could not find an opening. As She stood over the egg, she swung her bag as hard as she could until the Spearows flew away.

Kaleigh panted slightly and placed a hand over her heart, feeling it pound against her chest. She looked down at the egg and narrowed her brows in confusion.

"What am I doing?" She moved her hand from her heart to her head, holding it for a moment before throwing her head back and hand down she shouted.

"I HATE Pokemon!"

As Kaleigh looked down at the egg again she was able to get a better look at the now blue egg with a yellow ring near the top and a black spiky pattern below the yellow. She took a step back and sat down, she placed her leaf bag beside her before she stared at the egg. Wondering why she saved it and what that feeling was. It felt like the feeling belonged to someone else. She quickly got back up and picked up her bag. She looked at the egg on the ground before she walked away. She didn't get too far before she felt the pulse again. She tried to ignore it, her eyes welling up with tears.

Kaleigh stopped in her tracks, her shoulders shook in despair.

"I-I can't… It-NO! It could hurt me! B-but it's all alone." Kaleigh cried out. She felt the pulse again and gasped as she turned around to where she came from.

"It's calling for help…" Kaleigh realized as she quickly ran back. Once back she looked at the egg and gave a sigh of relief and slowly reached her hands out to the egg. Picking it up she looked around slightly then looked back at the egg.

Kaleigh looked around once more, thinking of what to do. She walked off the path as she wanted to stay away from anyone who may try to take her back to her mother. She went deeper into the forest pushing branches out of her way until she came across berry bushes.

"Hmm, if we stay close we wouldn't need to worry about food." She thought out loud. She smiled softly to herself and sat down under a tree. She placed her bag beside her before holding the egg in her lap.

"We'll be safe here," Kaleigh assured herself as she leaned back against the tree. With her eyes closed she took a breath in. She enjoyed the slight breeze and silence of the forest as her body and mind were at ease, with no fear of her mother or anyone else harming her. She slowly started to drift off to sleep as the sun was starting to set.

Kaleigh's dream started peacefully, she was a trainer travelling the world. While passing a town she bumped into someone. She looked up at the man and gasped.

"Dad!" Kaleigh exclaimed as she wrapped her arms around the man's waist.

"Why? Why did you leave me with, her" Kaleigh had always wanted to know the answer.

"Because I don't want you" Replied the man.

"What?" Kaleigh pulled away quickly, her heart sank as her eyes welled up with tears.

"Take her." The man demanded as he looked past Kaleigh. Kaleigh then felt a hand grab onto her left arm, This made her turn around to come face to face with a blonde, tall male with sky-blue eyes. He was wearing a lab coat with a gold emblem on the left side.

Kaleigh didn't get a chance to fight back as she found herself already strapped down to a table. She struggled against the restraints and screamed for help until the blonde man appeared over her with a wicked smile and a syringe in his hand.

Kaleigh jolted up gasping for air, her eyes wide while frantically looking around. Once she realized it was just a dream she took a deep breath and rubbed her face with her hands wiping away the sweat that had collected.

"H-He's not here, he can't h-hurt me," Kaleigh whispered. She rubbed her forehead one last time before she looked up at the night sky. A shiver rolled up her spine from the chilly breeze which made her rub her arms. She looked down at the egg and wrapped her arms around it to share her heat.

"How am I gonna keep you warm?" Kaleigh murmured. She thought about finding shelter or at least making something, but she was still shaken from her dream making it hard for her to focus. She pulled the egg closer and laid her head down on the top.

"I wish I could forget it all…"

To help calm her nerves Kaleigh started to hum a little. The tune was soft and soothing, and already she felt her muscles relax, as the nightmare slowly was forgotten.

"No matter how far we are apart, you are my light, my moon, and stars. I will always be here for you, so sleep tight and sweet dreams. I'll see you when you wake and we will be together again." Kaleigh softly sang the lullaby and closed her eyes. She yawned and went back to humming the lullaby, just until she fell back to sleep.
