Chapter Nineteen:
To Track a Strange Creature
She flew over the countryside, her wings flapping wildly. Rouge had to tell Sonic, anyone, about the status of the current situation. She'd snuck into Eggman's lair, and had been spying on the doctor and his alliance. And, after hearing what Eggmandorf had told the doctor, she could not afford to keep it a secret.
Rouge looked at her radar, an update told her that Sonic was heading to Central City. If he was going there, then she was going there too.
The white bat checked to see if she was being followed, spotting no robots in sight. Luckily for her, she'd been quiet, and had made sure the sensors in the lair didn't pick her up. Eggman had some real lousy security, and that made her a good spy.
'We can't delay.' She told herself, and flew towards Central City.
Sonic, Tails, Boom Sonic, and Movie Sonic walked through the streets of Central City with Jim Robotnik, who was holding the scanner. While Sonic had ran with his counterparts, their accomplice had driven a hover-car, made entirely from scrapped Eggman tech. Jim Robotnik hadn't walked everywhere on foot, and he'd borrowed the vehicle from a guy.
Despite the hover-car not being the Tornado, Tails didn't mind hitching a ride with the rogue Eggman variant. And luckily for Sonic, the doc didn't make any attempts to harm the fox, although it would have been in-character for the likes of Eggman or one of his other variants.
Jim Robotnik held a portable scanner in his hand, calmly and steadily, as the screen blinked, tracing a blue energy signature that moved around the city. Another pair of signatures indicated that Sonic, Tails, Boom Sonic, Movie Sonic and the skinny Robotnik were following the other signature. At night, Central City was somewhat quiet.
A few cars drove around the streets, and people wandered around, shopping and talking. The rest of the Sonics and Tails' variants had volunteered to guard Tails' place, so had Princess Amy #1 and Princess Amy #2.
Movie Sonic chose to tag along, mostly to keep an eye on Robotnik, just in case he pulled something.
"So, the creature we're lookin' for." The blue-armed hedgehog said, "What if it looks like Crazy Carl's drawings of me? I'm tellin' ya, he did quite the drawing of me after we met. This guy could have weird circle-y hands, noodle-y arms, an odd face with round eyes, and a strange row of spikes, for all we know."
"Our description for the creature is that he has white hands with no gloves, blue arms, a leaner body, big legs, and, human-looking teeth with an uncanny face." Robotnik said, "...and he's moving fast."
"Okay, where is he right now?" Boom Sonic asked.
Tails looked at Jim Robotnik's scanner, and his eyes widened; "HE'S MOVING THIS WAY!"
Everyone looked up, watching as a blue blur streaked towards them from the other side of the street. And then, it turned left and ran down the nearest avenue. Jim Robotnik's scanner went wild!
"What the heck?" A citizen cried.
"I swear his face looked off; I nearly thought it was Sonic!" A man exclaimed, "How is that Sonic?"
The group ran down the street, and took a left on Westside Avenue. They listened to the beeping of the scanner, spotting the blur from a distance. The blur raced to the right, heading down another block. A car drove by, then Sonic and his group raced to the street that their target had taken. It was mind-blowing; this thing was just as fast as Sonic and his other selves.
The trail left by the unidentified moving creature led the group to a district where they found a building with an owl symbol above it. 'Owl Daycare Home, open day and night.' A sign read.
"It's here?" Tails looked at Jim Robotnik's scanner.
"Obviously." Robotnik remarked.
"And, there's no commotion?" Sonic asked, "This is funny."
"Shall we go inside?" Boom Sonic quipped.
Everyone looked at the scanner again, the signal was still there, and they looked at the entrance, seeing an owl in a plain shirt and pants perched on a tree by the door. They may as well look around, the creature had to be hiding here. And if there was one other thing that the gang knew about the strange Sonic variant; it was not a kid...
