One Police Plaza
When they arrived in 1PP, their captain was pacing in his office.
"Please tell me you have a lead."
"No actually...," Eames began before being interrupted by a concerned Goren.
"Is everything alright, Captain, you look anxious?" Goren put one hand on his shoulder and held an inquisitive eye towards his Captain.
"I've got FBI up my ass along with Chief of Ds, who is now concerned about this protest regarding George Flloyd. Gregory is set to attend the protest so the timeline is pushed up."
"Well we are no closer than before. Girlfriend and Black Panthers vouch for him. Said he is a good guy who wants the best for his son," Eames supplied.
"Maybe if you get a hold of the kid, it could be a way to get him to comply."
"Captain, I am not about to put a child through that," Eames immediately shuts down.
"Yeah, I'm not about to use a kid either. Never mind the danger we could put him in. No, I am against it too."
"Well, we need to do something or New York is going to explode."
"About that, nothing is verifying that the Black Panthers and Gregory communicated through letters. They said they only met him in person and several phone conversations."
"So we are gonna need to see this letter."
"What you need to know?"
"Have you seen it."
"I have."
"Then why can't we see it."
"It's tied up now…paints someone high up in a bad light. And FBI sat on it too long."
"Beurocratic CYA. It's burried."
"You'll have an easier time getting to the president of the United States then finding that letter."
"Has there been any matches made comparing Gregory's handwriting or Black Panthers."
"There has been testing. Inconclusive." Captain spoke with dismay, "As of now, we go ahead call the threat viable. There are too many lives at risk including several people traveling from out of state. It's gonna be a powder keg if Minneapolis protests were any indication."
"Do you remember anything unusual about the letter? Maybe something that contradicts."
"The usual verbiage we only look out for our own kind. We keep killing blacks. That we don't know what we in for. yada yada yada and the confidential bit he talks about a certain man's kid benefiting by acting black but participating in Proud Boys. Also, if I remember, ACAB was mentioned a lot."
"That doesn't seem unordinary. Have you seen the graffiti around here? We are not exactly beloved out there."
"Yes but in a letter, shorthand like this. Why wouldn't he just write it out."
"Maybe he didn't know what the abbreviation stood for," Eames spoke.
"So we're looking for someone outside the community. Gregory would know what that stood for." Goren agreed,
"Why bring up the kid? Maybe someone who knew him personally." He put his hands to his mouth then removed it and bent his head, eyes up, "Any chance..."
"No my hands are tied."
"Even though New York is set to explode. Your words."
"I'm not gonna put a kid through this either."
"A minute ago you were about to bombard a child but a kid, I'm assuming teen, is where you draw the line. Or is it that this kid is white and belonging to a possibly a high-ranking officer."
"I have no pull here. It's over my head."
"What do they got on you Cap?"
"Excuse me."
"It has to be something if you are unwilling to help."
"There's got to be another way. I won't risk my careers and yours."
"So career over innocent lives got it." Goren was visibly frustrated and Eames wasn't happy either but she did not want to be in the middle.
Exhaustedly, Eames brushed her hand through her hair, "He may lead us to the real author of this letter. Doesn't that mean anything? I really don't want those lives on my shoulder, do you?"
"I'll see what I can do without destroying our careers. In the meantime, try to stake out the protest. Keep your eyes peeled for anything that seems off."
"So we hit the protest to catch and try to catch him before he detonates the bomb. Whoever he is."
Eames shakes her head that's cutting too close. "I guess we have no other choice."
"See if you can track Gregory there. Keep you heads on a swivel. We can't afford to miss anything."
"All do respect Captain, but we don't think Gregory has anything to do with this."
"Even so, if someone is setting him up, they won't be too far. Vests"
"Yes sir." They said in unison. Neither was taking a chance but it wasn't like a bullet proof vest would protect against a bomb but some protection was better than none.
