Yeah, I'm pretty with the way I've been able to extend the plot. One of the fun things and one of the challenges of this story is that it both allows and requires a lot of OCs. I never preplan any of my stories so I'm basically always winging it. I'm happy with how it's going.
"Good afternoon," said Hagrid warmly, "As you know, today I'm going to be handing the reigns over ter Luna and she's going to be yer teacher today. She's going ter teach yeh about some of the new creatures she's discovered in her travels. Luna, the floor is yers."
"Thank you, Hagrid, " said Luna brightly, "Today I'm going to share with this class a beautiful creature that I found and identified while I was in Aruba in late July. Before I go fetch it, I'd just like to share with you some general information about it."
All the students nodded at Luna to show that they were paying attention.
"So," explained Luna, "The creature I'm going to introduce to you today is notable for being attracted to witches and wizards but repelled by muggles. To be clear, this is NOT a crup type situation. The creature I'm going to be introducing to you today is not aggressive towards muggles. It simply shoos in the presence of muggles while it is drawn to witches and wizards. There's also a very fascinating reason why this creature were unknown before I discovered them. However, at this nanosecond, more progress will be made if I go fetch the creature in question."
Luna walked off the sloping lawns and returned a few minutes and a few nanoseconds later holding a cage.
Inside this cage was a beautiful multicolored creature with multiple parts.
The creature had four tall, thin, and sturdy legs that glowed like lightsabers. Its front left leg was red, its front right leg was green, its back left leg was blue, and its back right leg was purple. It had a round orange head and brilliantly yellow eyes, a black nose with a human nose shape, and brown ears. It had a small mouth but no teeth. It had a long body that had the shape of a turtle, but its body was made up of repeating lines that were really feathers that displayed the colors of the rainbow
"Kupps, " said Luna dreamily, "Beautiful, aren't they?"
"Beautiful, " repeated everyone.
"Before I go into the major points, " offered Luna, "Any questions about the creature?"
"He doesn't have teeth, " observed Hagrid, "How does he eat?"
"Kupps need drink far more than food, " said Luna matter of factly, "They drink lots of water. They mainly feed on small insects which they can swallow whole. Good question Hagrid."
"How do you distinguish between male and female Kupps?" asked Stephanie.
"You don't, " answered Luna patiently, "Kupps don't have genders. They are literally all the same."
"What kind of climate is best for Kupps?" wondered Samantha.
"Tropical and hot, " replied Luna, "Kupps cannot survive in cold weather, but they thrive in hot and tropical climates. Not enough study has been done on Kupps yet to know why this is because I only just discovered them in late July."
""Well, Aruba would be a good home for them then," said Debbie matter of factly.
"The biggie, " piped up Lily, "Why were Kupps hitherto unknown?"
"Now we come to it!" exclaimed Luna eagerly, "If a Kupp sees a muggle, it will immediately transform into a rainbow and head skyward. "
Will it transform back into its normal Kupp form at the sight of a witch or wizard?" inquired Patrick.
"No," answered Luna patiently, "While Kupps are attracted to witches and wizards in the sense that a Kupp in its normal form will approach a witch or wizard, a Kupp in rainbow form will only turn back into its normal form if NO people of any kind are in its line of sight AND Kupps in rainbow form resume their normal form only in the dark."
"So, " realized Gina suddenly, "Many a muggle rainbow sighting has actually been a Kupp in disguise?"
"Without question some have been. More study is needed to know what percentage of muggle rainbow sightings were actually Kupps in disguise. My own intuition thinks it's probably about twenty percent, " mused Luna.
"How do Kupps reproduce?" asked Devon.
"It's half planning and half luck that I was able to find that out," piped up Luna proudly, "I put some secret cameras in the area I discovered them in. After reviewing some footage, I learned that Kupps create eggs from water vapor while in rainbow form and drop them onto the ground. The nanosecond the egg hits the ground, it shatters, and a baby Kupp comes out of it while the egg dissolves into nothing."
"At what age are Kupps considered adults?" questioned Hugo.
"Kupps are considered adults at age three, " Luna informed the class, "Their egg bearing years are from three to six. Most Kupps live about ten years, assuming no tragedies or health issues, which, from my early investigations, seem pretty rare for these creatures."
"How fast can Kupps run?" inquired Lorcan.
"Kupps can run pretty fast but rarely do, " Luna told the class to a bit of surprise, "The thing is that Kupps don't have any predators. They are not edible for any other creature. When exercising, Kupps prefer to take it at a steady face."
"Can Kupps fly?" asked Lysander.
"No," answered Luna, "They don't have wings. They can only turn into rainbows and ascend to the sky."
"Can Kupps be kept as pets and is it normal to keep them in cages?" piped up Lily.
"I'm keeping this one in this cage, so it doesn't escape, " said Luna simply, "However, I ultimately don't believe being caged is good for these creatures. Later tonight I'm going to take a portkey to Aruba and release this Kupp back into where I captured it. I'm then going to capture a different Kupp to show to tomorrow's classes. I'm repeating this process everyday I'm a guest teacher, both here at Hogwarts and elsewhere. That way each individual Kupp only loses its freedom for one day."
"Yeh've thought this out well, Luna, " complimented Hagrid.
"Thanks Hagrid, " beamed Luna, "As for a Kupp being a pet, the answer should be no. Kupps are very clingy to witches and wizards and would seek constant attention. They do like being petted and their cuddliness might be enjoyable at first. But nothing as clingy as Kupps are to witches and wizards make good pets. "
"They are beautiful creatures, " cooed Lily, "Ainsley will be delighted when you show off a Kupp at The Ultimate University of Wizarding Healing."
"Bear in mind, " said Luna mysteriously, "That Kupps are such a newly discovered creature that there's a lot to learn about them. "
Devon, Hugo, Patrick, Lorcan, Lysander, Hagrid Debbie, Gina, Stephanie, Samantha, and Lily all now just smiled at the Kupp in the cage.
They were all delighted to have been part of a class where they were introduced to such a beautiful new magical creature.
