On the morning of Friday, October 15th, 2021, at 6 A.M. Hogwarts time, Headmistress Kirke's voice called out, "Would James Sirius Potter, Albus Severus Potter, and Lily Luna please come up to my office? There is an issue I'd like to discuss with you three about a certain artifact."

James, Albus, and Lily all met up in the Gryffindor Common Room and walked together to Headmistress Kirke's office.

"Good morning, James, Albus, and Lily," piped up Headmistress Kirke cheerfully after the three of them had walked through her open office door, "Please sit down."

James, Albus, and Lily all helped themselves to seats opposite Headmistress Kirke.

"So," said Headmistress Kirke matter of factly, "In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Harry loses the Resurrection Stone in the Forbidden Forest and tells Dumbledore he will not attempt to find it. Dumbledore agrees with this decision. However, the Resurrection Stone has turned up again."

Next nanosecond, Headmistress Kirke dug her left hand into her left hand pocket and retrieved the Resurrection Stone. She then held the Resurrection Stone out in her open left hand for James, Albus, and Lily to see.

"Who found it?" asked Albus curiously.

"I found it last night," answered Headmistress Kirke, Hagrid and I went into the Forbidden Forest to feed the thestrals. I spotted the Resurrection Stone on the way back and pocketed it so that no one who might be tempted by it would find it. The question is, should Harry be informed of the Resurrection Stone resurfacing?"

"In my opinion, no, " replied Lily thoughtfully, "It would be a shock to his system to hear about it and there's no practical reason why he needs to know."

"I second that, " agreed James, "Dad can also be impulsive and he might make a rash decision to seek out the Resurrection Stone if he found out that it had resurfaced."

"I third that, " added Albus, "It's also worth noting that dad didn't trust himself in this regard either. That's why he made the wise decision to snap the Elder Wand in two and throw the resultant pieces into the Black Lake at the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Even if the pieces are found and identified, the wand's power permanently broke when Harry snapped it in two. Part of the wand's power was that it would destroy its own power if its true master wished for its power to be destroyed."

"We can't snap the Resurrection Stone in half, " admitted Headmistress Kirke, "But hiding it in the forest is apparently not a viable option. Do any of you have any suggestions for what to do about it?"

"Hiding it anywhere isn't the answer because it will eventually be found," piped up James.

"The same conclusion must be reached about throwing it away such as in the trash," added Albus.

"The only solution," said Lily in a crisp and clear voice, "Is for the Resurrection Stone to be destroyed. That is the only way to make sure no one else ever finds it again and that it never resurfaces again."

"We can't break it by hand, " said Albus briskly.

"Nor by simple magic, " added James crisply, "Only powerful magic can destroy the Resurrection Stone."

"I am capable of wielding the powerful magic necessary to destroy the Resurrection Stone, " said Lily slowly, "Headmistress Kirke, would you be willing to entrust me with the task of destroying the Resurrection Stone?"

"Absolutely, Miss Potter, " replied Headmistress Kirke, "Do you have something specific in mind?"

"Yes, but we need more room, " answered Lily, "Let's head out to the Forbidden Forest."

"Okay then, " said Headmistress Kirke simply, "Let's get on with it."

Next nanosecond, James, Albus, and Lily followed Headmistress Kirke out to the Forbidden Forest.

"Headmistress Kirke," said Lily seriously, "Please drop the Resurrection Stone on the forest floor."\

Headmistress Kirke dropped the Resurrection Stone on the forest floor and looked back at Lily.

"James, Albus, and Headmistress Kirke," said Lily seriously and urgently, "Please back off now. Please stand several feet behind me and to the left of me."

James, Albus, and Headmistress Kirke all walked to stand several feet behind and several feet to the left of Lily.

Lily dug her right hand into her right hand pocket and retrieved her wand.

Lily skewed up her face in concentration.

With each passing nanosecond, the lines on Lily's face depicted more hatred and repulsion as she stared out at the Resurrection Stone.

Slowly, very slowly, Lily raised her wand and carefully pointed it directly at the Resurrection Stone.

"Avada Kedavra!" cried Lily.

The Resurrection Stone instantly erupted into a ball of fire and in less than half a minute and half a nanosecond, there was only ash where the Resurrection Stone had been. Lily then quickly performed a Vanishing Spell on the ashes so that the piece of forest floor that had previously been occupied by the Resurrection Stone was now just a piece of forest floor again.

The Resurrection Stone was no more.

James, Albus, and Headmistress Kirke stood there stunned.

"That," breathed James, "Was unnerving. I had no idea that Lily could work the Killing Curse."

"That's why she was so urgent and adamant that we back off," said Albus bluntly, "She was very careful to make sure we weren't in the line of fire."

"It's rare for a third year to display this much magical power," mused Headmistress Kirke, "Serious magical power doesn't usually show itself until fourth year at the earliest and it's more common for it to reveal itself in sixth year when present."

"It's obviously a little unnerving and even a little scary to be in the presence of someone who you know can perform the Killing Curse successfully, " said Lily slowly, "But rest assured that there's a ninety nine percent chance I'll never use it again."

"It's also a weird case in that you used the Killing Curse on an object rather than a person AND that you used the Killing Curse for good rather than evil," piped up Headmistress Kirke.

"I'm just reviled it's over," said Lily.

James, Albus, and Headmistress Kirke all nodded.

One of the worst agents of temptation of all time was now lost and gone forever.
