Preface:

This a serious WB-type of story, about the Admiral who preceded Admiral Kizaru (just as Akainu and Aokiji preceded Fujitora and Ryokugyu).

It's not a Mary Sue or Self-Insert story. And it's not even a particularly OC-centric story, either. The Forgotten Admiral is technically an OC, but he's really much of a plot device, and the story will only focus on him briefly at the very beginning.

It's a story which will reveal the nature of Raftel's true secret by the end.

Please give it a chance. You won't regret it. The mystery, suspense, and the build-up of the story is worth it for the climax, I promise. It'll be an excellent voyage and adventure through this story, I can promise you that.

Important: Please read it faithfully from start to finish until the end.

And now, without further ado, please enjoy:

...

It is said these days that Kaidou, one of the Four Emperors of the Sea, is the "strongest living creature" in the world.

"If it's one-on-one", people say, "Always bet on Kaidou".

But, long before Kaidou reigned supreme as one of the Four Emperors, there was once another man regarded as "undefeatable".

A man that all others feared.

A man that had once even captured a young Kaidou and struck a fierce, instinctual and primal terror into the eventual Yonkou's heart.

Among the marines, there was once a young man.

Yes,

Once, there was a man.

Then, that man ate a forbidden fruit.

And nothing was the same ever again.

To wit, before he had eaten his devil fruit, he was not particularly strong or fast. The power of his haki, too, was nothing special.

Even after very extensive and intensive training by his marine instructors, the power of his haki was just barely enough to meet the criteria to qualify as a vice-admiral.

At most, he was only strong enough to defeat average Paradise-level pirate captains, in a one-on-one duel. And even then, he could only do so with great effort and great difficulty.

Many of the fellow marines around him questioned if he was even worthy of his position as a vice-admiral. Some even questioned if he had only gotten the position through nepotism, or favoritism by someone higher up on the marine authorities.

But then, he ate his Devil Fruit.

And everything changed.

Once an insignificant man.

Now, a legend among the marines.

He quickly became extremely notorious, among both pirates and within the marine ranks.

After his first few battles with pirates post devil fruit consumption, his name, his relentless pursuit of and merciless attitude towards pirates, and the rumors of his abilities spread throughout the whole world very quickly.

At the very sight of him, pirates would flee and try to get as far away as possible from him.

Even at the very mention of his name, pirates would shudder in fear.

Just the rumor that he was staying or spotted on an island would quickly drive pirates away, and keep pirates that were at sea away from that island for a quite long while.

Some pirates believed that he was merely a joke, a rumor, and that his abilities couldn't be nearly as deadly or terrifying as other pirates believed him to be. But only those who actually faced him in person knew of his true terror, of the gut-wrenching nature of his abilities. And of the unspeakably cruel atrocities and disgusting tortures he would inflict upon any pirate crew unfortunate enough to cross his path.

To quote one disillusioned and traumatized New World pirate captain:

"I never want to face off against that man again! Just the thought of that man and what he did to my crew makes me want to vomit! No, no! That thing - he's not a man, he's a monster!"

Far and wide, he was feared and renowned by both pirates and marines alike. His very presence, enough to cause people to collapse.

Even among the marines, he was greatly feared. No one dared to make eye-contact, and people quickly cleared out of the way when he was seen approaching.

Whether he was sleeping,

Whether he was eating,

Whether he was merely strolling through the barracks,

None dared come close to him.

Arrogant new recruits who did not know him or of his abilities would often mock him behind his back as being weak and unworthy of his position.

Especially ignorant newcomers with no respect for authority or hierarchy. Some would even approach him and challenge him to try and prove him unworthy of the position. Challenges which he gladly welcomed and accepted.

And of course, some of the older marines were eager to see these new upstarts go up against the Admiral and humiliate themselves.

But the wiser and more senior marines would always quickly pull aside these young, fresh and naive arrogant upstarts, and inform them of the true nature of the Admiral.

And very quickly, the faces of the young and rebellious upstarts would pale, and even more quickly would they cancel their matches with the Admiral and apologize for their attitude (much to the Admiral's great disappointment).

The more sensitive of the young marine upstarts would even vomit grossly upon hearing tales of his exploits, and the terrible cruelties he would inflict upon pirate crews.

And even though he would always promise not to use his Devil Fruit powers - even still, nobody would dare challenge him after hearing the tales of his exploits and of the nature of his powers.

In his whole long history as a Marine Admiral, not a single person had ever dared to truly challenge him.

Marines that were assigned to his unit would very quickly request for transfers to other units, and few marines ever stayed near him for more than a few days at a time.

Of the Marine forces of his time, only a select few accepted him. Among them, a young Vice-Admiral Sakazuki.

To quote the young Vice-Admiral Sakazuki (later to be known as Admiral Akainu):

"He's a disgusting man, but he's useful. At the very least, he shows pirates no mercy. An admirable trait for a Marine, and one that more marines should aspire to."

To quote one of his fellow Admirals at the time, Admiral Sengoku:

But those who accepted him were few and few in-between.

Even Vice-Admiral Garp avoided the man, if he could.

When asked for a statement, Vice-Admiral Garp had this to say (while picking his nose):

"What's that, you say? ...What? Why am I avoiding him? ...Because HE STINKS! …That's all!"

The Fleet Admiral at the time, Kong, had this to say:

"Ah yeah, that guy, huh? ...Well, if you get to know him, he's a good guy. He's just a bit...well, "rough around the edges", I guess you could say, which is why he's a bit hard to approach. That's all."

Even the Gorosei (The Five Elder Planets) were wary of him, and detested the man.

To quote one of them:

"That man is a disgrace to the whole of the Marines, and the honor of the Celestial Dragons! Never before has such a black stain on the Marines been allowed such a high position or rank, and for such a long time! The only reason that we do not dispose of him immediately is simply because we want his power within our reach, and out of the reach of any pirates. To put things into simpler terms: it's better that we have a leashed dog than a vicious bloodhound roaming free."

Though, in actual fact, the The Five Elder Stars had already sent several very powerful and deadly assassins after him in the hopes of killing him and retrieving his devil fruit.

However, whenever one would draw near, his power, as if by reflex, would immediately activate in response. Even just the slightest hint of bloodlust or killing intent would set it off, and immediately the assassins would collapse to their knees - as if bowing, in his presence.

He himself would only smile knowingly, and offer a hand to help them up, as if mocking them and their lack of the will-power needed to stand in his presence.

It wasn't even that the assassins were weak or lacking in will-power by any means. However, of both the marines and of the pirates, few possessed the tremendous will-power to even stay conscious in his presence.

Among pirates, he was so renowned and feared that even the man that would eventually come to be known as the "King of the Pirates", Gol D. Roger, avoided him.

Even the most fearsome, brutal and bloodthirsty tyrant of pirates, Rocks D. Xebec, wanted nothing to do with the man.

And in time, even the great and powerful pirates that would make great names for themselves through the New World and through the all the Seas, eventually becoming Emperors in their own right (Whitebeard, Lin-Lin, Kaidou, Shiki), would all come to acknowledge that the Admiral's power was not one they would ever want to face head on.

There was only ever one pirate that had the courage, the sheer gall and audacity, to face him.

Only a young Red-Haired Shanks (a mere rookie at the time) was ever able to stand against him, to stand in his presence.

And of all things, only he, and only he alone, dared to laugh, to LAUGH! To laugh in the Admiral's face about all the terrifying things he had done to other pirates.

But even Red-Haired Shanks, for all the power and immense Haki and willpower that he had, was forced to run from him eventually.

Though, he and his crew could still be heard laughing as they sailed off into the horizon, the smug and carefree scallywags and bastards that they were.

Of the current Four Emperors of the Sea, Blackbeard had this to say:

"Ah yeah, I remember that guy. He was a really interesting guy! It's a shame he retired before my age started! I would've really liked to have added him to my crew! His power would've been a great addition! Zehahahahaha!"

Shiryuu, Swordsman of the Blackbeard pirates, had this to say:

"It's a good thing you didn't, captain. If he joined, then I'd have cut him down, and then I'd have cut you down for inviting him in the first place."

To which, Blackbeard simply replied:

"ZEHAHAHAHAHA!"

Now,

Certainly, both the fruit and its user were certainly incredibly fearsome.

But between the fruit and its user, if the question were asked which is more fearsome, then it could only be said that the fruit itself was naturally more fearsome.

Or more accurately, it could be said that the fruit itself is what makes its user extremely fearsome.

As such, it was only natural that both Blackbeard and the The Five Elder Stars would covet the fruit and its power.

However, unlike Blackbeard, the The Five Elder Stars had no intention of actually using his fruit, even if they had been able to retrieve it.

It was an unspoken agreement between all 5 of them that even if they should obtain the fruit, then they must never, ever, under any circumstances, let the fruit out of their sight. It was a fruit too dangerous to let anyone ever use again, ever if it were to fall into Marine hands again.

It was a power that they wanted to seal away forever and never see again.

In terms of sheer destructive capacity, it was a match even for the Quake-Quake fruit. The effects of its powers weren't as widespread as the Quake-Quake fruit's powers, however, and the damage that it inflicted upon the landscape was not nearly as severe. However, in one-on-one combat, its destructive capacities and the damage it inflicted upon the opponent could be said to be truly unmatched.

And not unlike the Barrier-Barrier fruit, it would be no exaggeration to say that it made it's user untouchable, and undefeatable.

It was a fruit that had been feared all throughout all of written history, as far back as the time the first devil fruits came into existence.

A fruit considered to be "cursed", not just by the ordinary standards of the Four Blues and their citizens, but even by the standards of powerful New World devil fruit users themselves.

Even Lord Imu was wary of the fruit, what the fruit was capable of, wanting the fruit gone and banished forever - sunken deep into the sea, never to be seen or wielded by anyone ever again.

It was a tacit agreement, then, among the The Five Elder Stars; Neither the fruit nor its user should ever be allowed anywhere near Lord Imu. To allow such a thing to happen would only bring the greatest of disgrace, dishonor, and shame upon them.

To that end, they prepared various high-end security measures, and even commissioned Vegapunk to make extremely durable and unbreakable sea-stone sealing boxes and chambers in which to contain the fruit, and which could never be opened once sealed.

But what was this fruit, and what was its power? To be so feared, and to have its name and the name of its user spread so far, and so quickly?

Well, as to the nature of the fruit's power:

One swing of the Admiral's arm, of his hand, of his wrist, and the whole landscape in front of him would become enveloped in the deepest of darkness; despair, plague and sickness soon to follow.

Men would shudder, Women would flee, and even newborn infants, would, by instinct, know to avoid him.

It is a power that inflicts despair wherever it goes and wherever it is seen. Just a single glance at its effects is enough to cause almost everyone; pirate, marine, and revolutionary alike, to either surrender immediately or to flee as quickly as they can.

But to be clear, the devil fruit itself was not some kind of special or unique devil fruit.

It was simply an ordinary devil fruit, with ordinary and standard devil fruit powers.

The devil fruit itself did not enhance its user's physical capabilities. Nor did it enhance it's user's Haki - Armament, Observation, or Conqueror's.

And of course, it did not unlock any hidden potential that the user did not already have and train for themselves, nor did it grant its user any special powers, beyond the bounds of what a devil fruit normally grants.

No, the devil fruit he ate was merely a completely ordinary devil fruit. A completely ordinary logia devil fruit.

But it was in fact the sheer nature of what the logia fruit turned the Admiral into that made him truly terrifying.

But what was it?

Such a terrifying devil fruit,

Could it be the Plague-Plague fruit, which turned its user into a pandemic human, capable of inflicting great plague upon any who came near its user? The one with the potential to cause world-wide pandemics and widespread death, hopelessness, and despair?

Or...

Perhaps it was none other than the extremely dangerous and powerful Atom-Atom fruit, which turned its user into a radiation and atomic bomb human, capable of irradiating any who came near, and having the capacity to destroy powerful nation-states and massive islands with the mere flick of a wrist?

No.

In fact, these fruits, as, terrifying, powerful, and destructive as they are, were not even close to the same magnitude of devastation and terrifying power, let alone worthy of comparison, to the devil fruit that the now-forgotten Admiral had once eaten and wielded without mercy.

For indeed, for he had eaten and wielded

The most terrifying devil fruit of all:

He had eaten the legendary...

Unko-Unko no mi.

(The Poop-Poop Fruit)

Author's Notes:

*Cough*

Well, how about that?

It's a real "laugh tale" ("Warai-Banashi") isn't it? lmao

That's right, your whole journey here through the fanfiction was one great voyage to reach the punchline of my "laugh tale". Who knows, maybe the real Laugh-Tale is something like this, too. A seemingly serious story, with a hilarious punch-line, lmao

Luffy's reaction:

(*Makes a scrunched up face*, starts poking at his nose.) "That's it? I was expecting something cooler, like a robot, or a beam, or something."

OR

A more realistic Luffy reaction:

(*Reads the first few lines*)

(*Falls asleep*)

We all know Luffy doesn't like long stories, lol.

(The bloodhound comment was just an analogy by the way - because it's better to keep that kind of power closely than let loose, lmao. Also he's genuinely just unaware of the Assassins, offering them a friendly helping hand, and an over all friendly guy, but he's made extremely lonely because of his fruit, lmao.)

If you liked it, please feel free to comment, like, review, and share it with your friends. Thanks.

Important:

If you're gonna share this fanfiction with other people, please make sure to recommend it in as spoiler-free fashion as possible, so as to not ruin the surprise.

Like, don't even say that it's a "funny" or "hilarious" fanfiction, and please try not to spoil even the fact that it has a twist or surprise at the end.

(There's a reason it's tagged as "Adventure" and "Suspense" but not as "Humor", after all.)

Just recommend it as an awesome fanfiction worth reading from start to finish until the end (because it is, in some senses).
