I know I'm a little late on the Mother's Day story! I've had a crazy couple of weeks and my writing time has been sparse. Only two days late isn't so bad though, and this one is super sweet! Writing it was definitely a nice distraction from all the stress I've had lately.
Aiden and Michelle: 5 months old
Mama
Ash couldn't help but to smile as he watched Misty with their babies.
The tiny twins were reaching up towards her face, giggling sweetly every time their mother's nose would twitch or her eyes would squint. It would've been easy enough for Misty to pluck the babies off of her lap and save herself from their unrelenting little hands, but Ash knew she was never going to do that. The twins were Misty's whole world, and all she wanted was for them to be happy. If that meant poking and prodding at her face, then she would just let it happen.
Not that Ash could blame her. He was the exact same way with the babies and always let them mess with his own face…even though they tended to be rougher with him than they were with Misty.
"Man, you're so lucky they don't smack you in the face," Ash sighed longingly.
"No, just hair pulling," Misty laughed weakly. "Although I know they do that to you too."
"Yeah…" Ash breathed. "I'm not sure which one is worse!"
Pikachu, who had been watching Misty and the twins as well from beside Ash, finally got up to his paws and moved closer to the trio, catching the attention of the babies. They quickly abandoned their mother's face and instead turned towards the Pokémon, gurgling excitedly.
"You're excited? You see Pikachu?" Misty giggled. "I know he's your best buddy!"
"Pika!" Pikachu squeaked, twitching his ears.
"Pah…" Aiden sounded out, trying to imitate the mouse.
Misty snickered again and nuzzled the top of the boy's head. "What a smart boy!"
"Pikachu is too," Ash remarked with a smirk. "I'm pretty sure he moved over there to distract the twins from your face."
"Is that true?" Misty asked the electric type, who nodded in response. "Aw, thank you! You are just the sweetest Pika Pal."
"Chu…" Pikachu murmured, sheepishly rubbing the back of his neck. Misty reached out and scratched between the mouse's ears, causing him to titter in delight. Aiden and Michelle watched this in fascination, and before long, Michelle was reaching out and making grabby motions with her little hand. Misty noticed this and smiled, leaning down towards the baby girl.
"You want to pet Pikachu too?"
Michelle mumbled incoherently, which Misty took as a yes. Pikachu did as well, and hopped closer to the child, smiling at her.
"Be gentle, okay?" Misty requested of her young daughter. The baby looked up at her mother, seemingly confused by what she was saying. Misty giggled and tenderly stroked the baby's hair, causing her to happily coo. "Nice, just like this!"
Turning back towards Pikachu, Michelle hesitantly reached out again and began patting the top of the mouse's head, earning more joyful noises from the electric type.
"At least they're gentler with the Pokémon than they are with us," Misty commented, smirking at her amused husband.
"Small victories!" Ash agreed with a chuckle.
Maybe he shouldn't have been, but Ash had been surprised when Misty first told him she dreamed of having her own family. Sure, she'd had a couple of baby Pokémon that she'd taken excellent care of and loved dearly, but to Ash, human babies were a lot different. Well, what little he knew about them at the time, at least. After all, Misty wasn't the most patient person he knew. She'd always had a short fuse and tended to get frustrated pretty quickly. From watching Professor Kukui and Professor Burnet with their own kid, Ash knew they required a ton of patience.
But with Aiden and Michelle, she was very patient, and always had been. In fact, those two had seemed to change her overall demeanor. In general, Misty seemed much more even keeled than when she was a kid herself. She hardly ever snapped at strangers anymore, even if they were getting on her nerves, and it took a lot more for her to get all riled up. Basically, Aiden and Michelle had turned her into a total softie, and Ash thought it was just adorable.
"Pikachu, you're so good with the babies!"
"Pi-ka!"
Following up his wife's compliment, Ash reached out and scratched Pikachu's back. "He sure is!"
The more Pikachu happily vocalized, the more the twins laughed. It obviously delighted them to see the Pokémon so pleased. At one point, Aiden turned to grab onto the neck of his mother's shirt, pulling at it while he babbled nonsensically.
"What?" Misty giggled. "You like that Pikachu is happy?"
"Yeee…" Aiden sounded out, still clutching Misty's shirt.
"Aw, me too!" Misty exclaimed. "We all love Pikachu a whole bunch, don't we?"
Suddenly leaping forward, Pikachu squeezed himself between Aiden and Michelle and began to snuggle them and Misty simultaneously. The twins' laughter became raucous, while Misty herself began to giggle uncontrollably. "You love us too, Pikachu?"
When the electric type managed to squirm away, the twins whined in disappointment before clumsily trying to take after the Pokémon.
"Guess it's playtime now," Ash noted amusedly, watching as Pikachu returned to the frustrated Aiden and Michelle who had twisted themselves all the way around to face him.
"I can appreciate a bit of a break," Misty replied. "I absolutely adore those two, but we've been hanging out since 6 AM."
"That's because you're so much fun to hang out with!" Ash chuckled.
Misty raised a playful eyebrow. "You wanna hang out with me at 6 AM?"
"Sure, I'd hang out with you whenever," Ash smoothly replied.
"Nice try," Misty scoffed. "But you can barely wake up to go to work."
"Pi! Ka! Pi! Ka!"
Ash and Misty paused their conversation to watch Pikachu move his tail from side-to-side in front of the twins, mesmerizing them.
"Isn't that cool?" Misty asked the babies with a giggle.
Ash smiled warmly at Misty. "Ya know, I really love how you let the twins play with our Pokémon."
"Of course!" Misty trilled. "I couldn't imagine not letting them. Besides, I trust our Pokémon with them more than I would most people."
Ash chuckled. "You're the best Mom in the whole world!"
Misty smiled sheepishly. "You tell me that all the time."
"I know, cause it's true!" Ash exclaimed. "It's just…I watch you with the twins, and I can't believe I was ever surprised you wanted kids."
With an air of lightheartedness, Misty rolled her eyes. "Come on, Ash, I wouldn't have expected you to not be surprised by that! We were still so young at the time, and besides, it's not like I always exuded motherly qualities."
"I guess…" Ash hesitantly murmured before more confidently adding, "but you really are awesome! That's why I tell you all the time."
"Well, thank you," Misty replied, smiling widely at her husband. "I really appreciate it!"
"Did you guys know that?" Ash called out to the twins. "You've got the best Mama ever?"
Neither baby acknowledged him; they were still too busy watching Pikachu move his tail back and forth.
"Sorry, we're just not as interesting to them as the Pokémon," Misty commented with a giggle.
"Yeah, clearly," Ash sighed playfully, resting his head in his hand. "Guess I can't blame 'em!"
"I know I can't," Misty murmured, her smile softening as she leaned forward to kiss both twins on their heads and made them both giggle softly. "My sweet, loving little babies."
I really just wanted to write a fluff piece of Misty loving on the baby twins and Ash just being super enamored by how she is with them. Working on this one really made me smile the whole time!
