Chapter 1: Light From Darkness

The small sneasel took off running. "Run Blade, don't look back!" His mother called as she fought dozens of trainers and their pokemon to give him a chance to escape. Blade ran, and ran, and ran, and ran, until his poor little legs burned from over exertion and his lungs felt like they were on fire. He tripped and rolled down a hill hitting fallen branches and stones bruising and cutting his body. He slowly stood back up and kept running the pain in his lungs and legs burning beyond belief. He ran for hours, not even wondering how he managed to do so. He finally collapsed and crawled until he caught sight of a pokemon den. He reached the entrance and called out for help.

The owner of the den, a mightyena came to the entrance. "A sneasel….like I'd fall for a trick like this, get outta here before I eat you!"

"P-please sir…..I I'm lost and alo…."

"I said get outta here" the mightyena lunged at Blade. Blade reacted quickly and scrambled to his feet taking off in a sprint away from the mightyena. "You better run you little sneasel rat!!" At the sound of his species name dozens of other pokemon appeared and gave chase. Blade ran faster than ever his legs feeling like they'd fall off if he stopped. This continued for days, or weeks, or maybe even months. In that time Blade managed to find a berry or two and a pond every few days, but otherwise was never given a chance to rest. And no pokemon he met was willing to help him, they instead tried to hunt him for either sport or to simply eat him. As the time went on he finally went as far as he could. No food or water for nearly a week and he had been caught and wounded. The pokemon responsible had simply left him to die.

Blade laid upon the ground against an oak tree. Cuts adorned his body most of which stopped bleeding minutes ago. His feathers, crooked and damaged, and his body had an almost anorexic look from his lack of nutrition. He coughed weakly and slumped down resigning to his fate.

"You look pathetic" a voice came. Blade glanced up to see a Darkrai, of an almost lighter black color with a singular red eye, holding three large sitrus berries "Here take these" he said dropping them into the smaller pokemon's lap "Don't expect anything else from me." He watched as Blade tore into the berries like a ravenous beast until all three were gone.

"Um th-thank you" Blade said as the larger stared down at him.

"Where is your pack kid?"

"G-gone"

"How"

"Humans"

"A pity really, oh well." The darkrai began floating away.

"Wait please" Blade called, stumbling forward from his position "Let me come with you….please."

"What is your name?"

"My..name...it's Blade."

"Well, Blade, I see no reason why I should, but no reason I shouldn't either. Fine, you can tag along until I grow tired of you."

"Oh thank you….uh what's your name?"

"Shadow"

"Thank you Shadow." Without another word Shadow floated off into the trees with Blade stumbling behind him.

"Tell me something Blade. How did you lose your pack?" Shadow asked calmly "Details."

"It's not something I want to talk about..."

"Then you are not long for this world. The world sees your wants and casts them aside without a second thought. Do you see my point, right now I don't care if you want to talk about it, you have to."

"F-fine...it was...I don't even know how long ago; Humans made their way into this forest and at some point found my pack….we tried to fight back, but they greatly outnumbered us and I was…..I was no help seeing as nobody taught me to fight or survive on my own. So my mother cleared a way for me to escape….she told me not to look back….I've been alone ever since..."

Shadow faced away from him "Well then, you will be of no use to me. Once you've recovered I will train you, but if you complain at all, I will leave you behind without a second thought." He waited a moment "Understand?"

"Y-yes sir" Blade replied, an excited grin across his face.
