It had been weeks since Lucifer had visited Sam in his sleep. Every time he fell asleep, Lucifer would be there. Sam didn't see any other option, but to avoid sleep for as long as he could.

"You look like crap," Dean said as Sam came into the kitchen, grabbed a beer from the fridge and sat across from his brother.

"Always such a way with words. I've been doing research and there have been some signs in Kansas, Cattle mutilations, crops dying, Demon's maybe."

"We'll head out tomorrow. Go and get some sleep," Dean stated.

"I'm fine Dean," Sam stated.

"It's been days Sammy, three days since you slept for anything more than ten minutes," Dean stated.

"I'm not tired," Sam said, but then yawned, his own body betraying him.

"Mmhmm, do you want to try again, maybe this time, try telling the truth. If I didn't know any better I would think that you were afraid to go to sleep," Dean stated.

Dean was right, he was afraid…every time he closed his eyes, the devil was waiting for him. What was he supposed to tell Dean? He wouldn't understand, couldn't understand…it wasn't something that he even wanted to think about, let alone say out loud. Sam had thought a lot about it since Lucifer had met Sammy in his dream. There had been no warning, nothing amiss, in fact, just the opposite…Sam had felt comfortable, free to be himself and connected to the evil thing that he had set free. He couldn't tell this to Dean, his brother would call him a freak yet again. Maybe he was a freak, he felt this connection to Lucifer, the literal face of everything that was evil.

"Sammy, talk to me brother, why are you afraid to go to sleep?" Dean asked breaking the silence.

"Clowns…I've been having nightmares about clowns," Sam lied.

"Clowns, like Ronald Mcdonald?"

"Jerk," Sam said and then smiled at his brother.

"Bitch," Dean replied with a smile of his own. It was times like this that made Dean hopeful that he and Sammy could go back to the way it was before Ruby. "Seriously man, clown or no clown, you need to get your sleep tonight. You'll be no good to me on the hunt if you're falling asleep on the job. I got some sleep medication around here somewhere if you need," Dean stated.

"I've got some Melatonin in my room. I'll make sure that I'm well rested. Get some sleep yourself,"Sam said and then headed back to his room.

Sam laid in bed, staring at the ceiling. He had taken some Melatonin, he hoped that it would be enough to keep the devil at bay, but either way he knew that he couldn't delay sleep forever. His eyes grew heavy and eventually shut.

"Hi ya Sammy, did you miss me the way that I missed you?" Lucifer asked as he came into focus.

"It's Sam. Why do you keep coming here?" Sam asked.

"It's the only way that I can see you…unless you want to tell me where you've been hiding," Lucifer stated as he stepped closer to Sam and closed the distance between them and placed his hand on Sam's cheek.

It felt like he had finally found his place. When he was with Lucifer, he no longer felt like an outsider, he felt whole, for the first time in his entire life.

"What do you want from me? Sam asked.

"We've had this conversation so many times Sam. I need you to tell me where you are. I need you to say yes and let me in," Lucifer explained.

"So you can destroy the world, set it on fire and watch it burn? I don't think so."

"Fire can be cleansing…this world needs to burn to be purified from what 8 billion of you have done to this beautiful planet," Lucifer explained.

"I can't let you kill people. I have to find a way to stop you," Sam said as he took a step backwards. Hating that he had to distance himself from the only thing that made him feel whole.

"Or you and I could be an unstoppable force. After we cleanse this Earth, we could start anew. You and me ruling together, forever. It's what I want, no, it's what I need and their are times I think it's what you want and need as well," Lucifer stated.

"It will never happen. I will never say yes to you. Stop visiting me," Sam said as he woke up with a start.

"Bad dreams?"

Sam peered in the darkness and saw Castiel sitting on the edge of his bed.

"Cas, what are you doing here?"

"I was looking for a Saturday Evening Post, but then you said something in your sleep."

"What did I say" Sam asked.

"You said Lucifer. Dean told me that you were having a hard time sleeping because of someone named Ronald McDonald, but that's not true, is it? My brother's been visiting you in your dreams, hasn't he?"

Sam thought about lying, but he needed someone to talk to and he couldn't take this to Dean. Yes, Lucifer said that I am his true vessel," Sam explained.

"You are," Cas confirmed.

"You knew?"

"All the angels know. It was a old story from God's book."

"What story? You have to tell me what you know Cas," Sam pleaded.

"The story in God's book is that you were born to be Lucifer's Vessel, your brother is meant for Michael. One brother is meant to kill the other one in the days of the apocalypse."

"That can't happen, I can't help that thing kill Dean. In the story who won?" Sam asked.

"Depends…God's story has a missing page so we don't know how it ended. Some of the angels think that Lucifer will win? Others think Michael."

"And what do you think Cas?"

"I think the Winchesters will win. I think that you and Dean will find a way to avoid your fates," Cas stated.

"I hope so Cas," Sam whispered.

"You're not alone in this Sam, talk to Dean. Secrets have a way of poisoning even the best of relationships," Cas cautioned.

"I'll think about it. Thanks for the talk Cas,"Sam stated.

"I'm going to go and read this Saturday Evening Post while I watch over Dean while he sleeps,"Cas said and then he left Sam with his thoughts.

Sam laid in the dark. What was he going to do? Logically, he wanted to send Lucifer back to hell, but every-time he was close to the prince of darkness, he could feel his resolve slipping in his desire to feel whole. "I can't say yes," he whispered into the darkness. He couldn't be the reason that Dean or the rest of humanity perished.
