ERIA LOUIS

Kyoto, Japan

Present day-

She took a deep breath, feeling the night breeze along her skin. It was her first vacation on her own, but despite all the anxiety... She felt great. Better than she had in a while, with not a single care left to give the world. Stretching her arms above her head and readjusting the sleeves of her hoodie, she took one more breath of cool air. Enjoying the peaceful nighttime stroll throughout the city.

This was her big break. Finally, after months and months of sending out her portfolio, she'd finally done it and gotten a job she believed would be a fun one. Being fresh out of college, she'd never wanted to deal with the life of working in a boring, matte gray cubicle. But now, she had a job as a fashion designer. Sure, it wasn't her first choice, but it was one she'd settle for. And this trip was just a simple reward. A little getaway after the hectic college life to prepare for her career life.

Now walking with a slight spring to her step, she pulled a guide book out her purse. 'A Traveler's Guide to Japan's Hottest Warlords.' While the title was a bit... embarrassing to say the least, it had managed to make her giggle, hence why she'd bought it. Kyoto was a hub of a multitude of historical activity, and the guidebook had promised information on some good sightseeing spots. She flicked through the pages, until she paused, spotting a familiar name.

'The Peerless Warrior: Yukimura Sanada.' She heard of him before, yet her memory failed her when it came to what for exactly. Despite all the years of history classes and always trying her best, she could never remember any of it for more than a few weeks. 'The One-Eyed Dragon: Masamune Date.' One she could claim to be more familiar with, as many historical dramas had been made regarding him throughout the years.

'The One-Eyed Dragon' was an intriguing nickname. And the eyepatch certainly added to his intrigue. Continuing to flip through the book, she searched for something nearby she could go see. And finally, she found one. A stone monument in memory of Honno-ji, located at the temple's original place of standing, with a few names attached to it. 'The Devil King of the Sixth Heaven: Nobunaga Oda,' most certainly one of the most famous men tied to that location.

Nobunaga Oda was a name she couldn't forget. After all, he'd nearly unified all of Japan under his single rule. And next to his name, was a description of his downfall: "In the year 1582, betrayed by Mitsuhide Akechi, Nobunaga committed seppuku amidst the fiery wreckage of Honno-ji." Intrigued by the story of Honno-ji, she followed the map to where the temple had once stood.

Eria stared at the simple, small, somber stone monument, slightly disappointed in how miniscule it was. She wondered if Nobunaga Oda himself would've also been as disappointed that this was all his death amounted to, if not more. As she stood and looked at it, a man walked up to the monument as well. The fact that he was dressed in a white lab coat, out in public, made him stand out immensely. But aside from that, Eria didn't pay much mind to him. He just stood silently beside her; his gaze fixed on the stone.

But she couldn't help her gaze drifting to him. He was light-toned, with simple brown hair and sharp eyes in a matching color hidden behind black square-frames. A serious expression worn on his face, beneath his lab coat was a green button-up with the top buttons undone, and simple black slacks. He appeared too young to be a doctor, but perhaps he was a medical student instead. To Eria, he seemed much more intriguing than the monument itself. However, she was broken from her thoughts by a drop of cold rain hitting her face.

Looking overhead, dark gray clouds filed in sheets across the sky. "...Oh no.." she mumbled. The clouds suddenly broke away and tiny droplets quickly turned into a harsh downpour. "What poor timing," the man muttered. Eria shook her head in annoyance, pulling the hood of her blue jacket over her head, "'Clear skies all day and night' it's said... Stupid weather report." she mumbled. Suddenly, the man's gaze was directed at her. "Are you all right? Do you have an umbrella?" he asked.

Eria shook her head, "...Not on me." she looked to meet his gaze, when suddenly- "Huh!" his dark brown eyes widened. "Aah!" A sudden bolt of lightning touched down directly in front of them, shattering the stone monument to useless pebbles. Eria felt in disbelief, that couldn't have just happened. Lightning striking that close was nothing but a bout of bad luck. "Be careful, miss-" The man attempted to warn, but his words went unheard.

He offered her a hand; but then there was a loud crash. And everything appeared to bend and warp into deep darkness. Eria felt dizzy, and instinctively squeezed her eyes shut. 'What's… What's happening?'

The dizziness passed. But as she opened her eyes, they were quickly obscured by streams of billowing hot smoke. Eria froze, confused. None of this made any sense. It was just raining; she had just been standing outside in it. But now, here she stood inside some strange temple. And the smoke. There was smoke everywhere, filling up the wooden room, indicating that the temple was engulfed in flame.

Covering her mouth, she frantically looked around. Yet she couldn't see the lab coat man anywhere. Instead, she spotted a more worrying scene. In the room, a man laid, seemingly asleep all while dressed in ancient Japanese armor with dark hair. What appeared to be another man, holding some sort of walking stick, approached the sleeping one. That's when Eria's blood ran cold. The man wasn't holding a walking stick, no, he was holding a sword. The sparks from the flaming walls illuminated the deadly blade as it raised. Without thinking, Eria shouted- "Hey, you, look out!"

The sword-wielding man, hearing Eria's shout, paused. Eria crouched beside the unconscious man, shaking him urgently until he finally woke. Eyelids lifting lazily to reveal sharp crimson eyes. "...Lucille?" he mumbled, then paused, "...No. You couldn't be her. Who are you?" "No time for introductions. We have to get you out of here." Eria answered, urging him to stand up, "Come on. Take my hand." Eyeing her suspiciously, he took her hand into his powerful grip, allowing her to grab tight and help haul him to his feet.

Eria didn't know who he was, or why someone was trying to kill him. But she hadn't wished to see anyone hurt- or worse. The two ran for their lives through the flaming building.

RANMARU MORI

Backing away from the increasing flame, a man no older than 18 watched as the two fled. His stormy-gray eyes wide. Tears pricked the corners as he gave out his sorrowful plea to seemingly no one- "...I'm sorry… I'm sorry, but I couldn't do it…" The crackling fire then only served to devour his tearful apology. And then he, too, fled the burning temple.

ERIA LOUIS

The temple behind them was slowly dissipating in the uncontrollable flame. Yet somehow, they'd managed to make it out without so much as a burn on either of them. This had to be a dream, there was no way she'd just ended up in this situation. But suddenly, the formerly sleeping man spoke- "Someone tried to do away with me while I slept? Audacious, but foolish. Killing my guards and getting that close to me is another matter." Then, he turned to Eria, "You there. Woman. Let go of me."

Eria immediately let go of his hand, muttering out an apology as she did. But as she stood there, the man looked her over, seemingly deep in thought. "You saved my life. You may be some girl the monks snuck in for amusement, most likely because of how strikingly similar to Lucille you are, but I owe you my thanks." Eria narrowed her gaze, crossing her arms across her chest as she spoke- "Really? I don't know who Lucille is, but I must have missed all the amused monks while escaping the massive fire. I don't even know how I got there."

'Who even is this guy...?' she pondered. He was dressed in the attire that a star in some samurai drama may wear. Spoke like one too. And his gaze was sharp, filled with pride and brutality. But judging from the material, his clothing was authentic. Just about as authentic as the sword that hung from his belt. "What are you staring at? Surely you know who I am." he spoke, his tone harsh and unamused as he looked down on Eria. "..I don't." she replied.

The man stared at her, as if confused. "You saved me without knowing who I am? Not expecting reward or favor?" he questioned, then a proud smile formed across his lips. "So be it. I shall tell you my name. I am the man who will rule all under the sun-" "Yeah, don't care." Eria replied, turning away. A look of pure disinterest spread across her pale features. The man froze, "What?" Eria really didn't want to know. Whatever he was going to say, she felt as if she wasn't going to particularly like it.

Despite his momentary surprise, the man smiled once more. "You're a curious one, woman. No one's ever spoken so impudently to me before." A loud, amusement filled laugh fell from his lips. One that seemingly echoed deep into the night. Eria looked at him, confused. What was funny about the current situation? 'Yikes. That smile does not look pleasant.' "You intrigue me," said the man, "which is almost as worthy of praise as saving my life." Eria was about to roll her eyes, however, the next words that came from him caused her to freeze. "I am the Lord of Azuchi Castle and Daimyo of Owari, Nobunaga Oda."

Eria's blood ran cold as she felt a shiver race down her spine. '...Nobunaga Oda. He just said his name is Nobunaga Oda...!' Her lips parted in shock, disbelief framing her mind. Without any words further spoken, she turned towards the gate of the burning temple. There, on the gate, was a sign unmistakably engraved with the name, 'Honno-ji.' "...Pardon my asking such a strange question, but. What year is it?" she asked, slowly looking back at the man. "It is 1582. Why?" he informed her.

Eria's mind immediately recalled the passage from the guidebook: "In the year 1582, betrayed by Mitsuhide Akechi, Nobunaga committed seppuku amidst the fiery wreckage of Honno-ji." There was no way this was real. It all had to be a dream. She couldn't actually be in 1582 when she was just in 2017. With stiff movements, Eria raised her hand to her face and pinched the skin of her cheek as hard as she could. The prick of pain quickly shot down the dream idea. But could it really mean that she genuinely went back to the night Nobunaga died?

"What are you pinching yourself for?" Nobunaga asked, amusement in his gaze, "I've given my name. It's your turn." The self-proclaimed Nobunaga took a full step forward and placed his hand beneath Eria's chin, forcing her to meet his gaze. "Give me your name." he spoke, almost like a demand. Gritting her teeth as his behavior, she gave him an answer- "..It's Eria." He smiled, "Eria, then? How amusing. That is my daughter's name, but a good one nonetheless."

Eria let out an awkward laugh, "Glad you approve. Now, let me go." She brushed his hand away and was quick to put distance between the two of them. She could care less about him or sharing a name with his daughter, or whatever. She desperately needed to figure out what was going on here. Eria felt as if her head was spinning, her entire body shaking. But that was before she noticed the sounds of a large group approaching. "Lord Nobunaga, you're safe!" a voice called.

Eria froze, looking over to see a man with gray hair and deep violet eyes, a gentle look to his face. 'Who is this now?' The man arrived at the front of a unit of soldiers, rushing towards Eria and Nobunaga. "Mitsunari? Why are you here? Where is Hideyoshi?" Nobunaga questioned. "Lord Hideyoshi sent me ahead. He should be here shortly." he answered. The man, now known as Mitsunari, took in the sight of the burning temple. A frown forming on his lips. "We received information about an assassination attempt. It appears to have been true."

Mitsunari turned back to Nobunaga, "I had my men search the grounds, but whoever it was had already fled." but then, his gaze fell on Eria, "If I may ask, who is this? I saw the two of you leave the temple together." Nobunaga stared at Eria, an impassive yet commanding look on his face. "Eria, present yourself to my subordinate." He indicated to Mitsunari with a nod and waited. Eria simply glanced at Nobunaga sideways.

To Eria, he had a major attitude. One she wasn't going to willingly submit to. Not like she cared if he almost united the country. "I apologize, but did I miss the part where I became a subordinate too?" she smiled, yet no kindness could be found there, "I don't have to follow your orders." Nobunaga's gaze narrowed, "Then you're choosing to disobey me?" His glare was as sharp as a knife, striking cold fear into Eria. But she refused to back down. "...It's not disobedience if I never obeyed you in the first place."

Before things could stray any further, Mitsunari intercepted- "Please, this is on me. It was rude of me not to introduce myself first." he wore a gentle smile as he dipped his head respectfully towards Eria, "My name is Mitsunari Ishida. I serve at the side of Lord Hideyoshi, Lord Nobunaga's right-hand man." Eria un-crossed her arms, giving Mitsunari a smile in return as she spoke- "It's nice to meet you. I'm Eria."

Mitsunari seemed kinder than Nobunaga, a welcome change of pace. And his name gave a flicker of familiarity too. He was also quite pretty, almost like a model. A part of Eria wondered what it'd be like to design clothing for him. "I don't know who she is, but she woke me up and saw me to safety." Nobunaga interrupted. Mitsunari's smile remained kind and angelic as he spoke once more- "She did! I can't thank you enough for protecting our lord's life."

Eria just shrugged in response, "...I did it without thinking. It was instinctive." But then, Mitsunari's expression shifted from an angelic smile to a thoughtful one. "But what brought you here tonight?" he questioned, "You don't appear to be a nun. And your dress is unusual. Are you from abroad?" he gestured to what Eria was wearing. The familiar blue jacket and white tank top, fitted with denim shorts and tennis shoes she could always be seen in. To her, it wasn't unusual. But supposedly back in 1582, it wasn't exactly common.

Without thinking, Eria spoke again- "I'm actually from a completely different time altogether." Both men paused, staring at her in different measures of surprise, "What?" She was sure it would sound implausible. But it was better to be honest than not. Eria sighed, forcing herself to meet their gazes, ".I come from 2017. Nearly 500 years into the future." They both wore an expression of shock and disbelief. But then- "She's a story-teller too. Although I've never heard such an absurd tale!" Nobunaga laughed. "You poor thing," Mitsunari frowned, "The smoke from the fire was very disorienting, I'm sure."

Eria stared at them, 'Really? They're not even considering it? ..Guess I'd have trouble believing it too.' "I really am from the future-" she tried, only to get cut off by Mitsunari. "Sit down over here and get some fresh air," he smiled, placing his hand on her back to guide her gently. "Someone will bring you a change of clothes." he informed her. It was only then that Eria had noticed the wreck that was her clothing. With burn marks and ash on the fabric up to her elbows. And parts of her shorts burned up her thighs.

"Once you're freshened up, you'll feel much better." Mitsunari told her. Not bothering to fight anymore, Eria simply sighed. "Thank you," she muttered. Mitsunari took her hands in his, holding them gently until a soldier came up with a bundle. "Now, let's get you changed into these, shall we, Lady Eria?"

Once she'd finished changing and stepped out from the tent, Mitsunari guided Eria to the center of a hastily assembled campsite. "Wait right here. I'll bring you a warm cup of good, clean water to clear your throat." he promised. With Mitsunari gone, Eria was left alone. The only other person nearby being Nobunaga. "You clean up well," he commented. Eria didn't bother acknowledging him, she didn't even bother with the way his eyes lingered on her. She turned and kept her gaze on the entrance, waiting for Mitsunari.

Overhead, she noticed that the smoke was beginning to clear. Mitsunari's troops must've extinguished the flames, as the air felt easier to breathe now. As Eria breathed in the cool night air in attempts to calm her nerves, the camp curtain parted. However, the person who entered wasn't Mitsunari. A man with white hair entered, his pale golden gaze immediately falling on Nobunaga. "My lord, I see you are well." he spoke, his voice a deep one, not exactly befitting of his face. But to say the least, he was attractive.

"Mitsuhide?" Nobunaga spoke, a hint of surprise in his tone. Eria froze upon hearing his name. 'Mitsuhide.. As in Mitsuhide Akechi? The same one who betrayed Nobunaga and caused this entire incident?!' A calm smile formed on Mitsuhide's face, "I hurried here when I heard about the attack, but it seems there was nothing for me to worry about." "You, worry? Don't make me laugh. I've never even seen you sweat." Nobunaga smiled, amusement now filling his tone of voice. As Eria watched silently at Nobunaga banter and smile with the man she'd known as his betrayer, another person burst into the camp.

"Lord Nobunaga! Are you injured?" the man questioned. He had slightly longer dirty blonde, almost light brown hair and golden eyes. A clear look of displeasure on his face. "Hideyoshi. The only injury I suffered is to my pride in letting my assailant escape." he replied. Hideyoshi let out a sigh of relief, a warm smile forming on his expression, "I see." "Ah. Great. Just lovely. Now Hideyoshi Toyotomi is here too! When will this night end...?" Eria grumbled through gritted teeth, her nerves rising with every new person.

Hideyoshi's eyes widened, almost taken aback by Eria's presence alone. "Aren't we outspoken? Have we met?" he questioned. '.I said that out loud, didn't I? Well. I didn't exactly expect to meet two of Japan's unifiers, especially in the same night!' "Let her be," Nobunaga interrupted, "Her name is Eria. Oh yes, and she saved my life." "You saved Nobunaga's life…?" Mitsuhide repeated, his eyes wide with a tone of disbelief to his voice. But then, a teasing smile formed on his lips, "And you're such a slender thing. But it appears your courage makes up for it."

'...That's an unnerving smile.' she thought. "Mitsuhide, what are you doing here?" Hideyoshi questioned, suspicion wavering in his gaze. The smile quickly fell from Mitsuhide's face, "I was wondering the same thing. I didn't know you were in Kyoto. What about the campaign?" "When I heard about the threat on Lord Nobunaga's life, I dropped everything to come here," Hideyoshi explained, "But I never heard anything about you being in Kyoto." "Are you implying something?" Mitsuhide asked.

Hideyoshi's narrowed gaze hardened, "Can you swear before our lord you weren't plotting anything?" Mitsuhide didn't answer. But as the two locked eyes, the tension filling the space could be felt for miles. It was evident then that Hideyoshi already had suspicion that Mitsuhide had been behind the attack. Mitsuhide wore a foxlike grin, "All men have secrets in these chaotic times. Are you saying you act with no ambition of your own?" "Stop being evasive. Confess." Hideyoshi demanded.

Hideyoshi's eyes seemed to flare as he gripped the handle of his blade, clearly ready to draw on Mitsuhide if he saw necessary. Eria had been hoping for another nice one, but Hideyoshi clearly wasn't as friendly as his looks suggested. "If I find you played any part in this attack on our lord, Mitsuhide, then I'll show you no mercy." he threatened. "I don't think it was him!" A voice called out. But the shocked gazes of both Hideyoshi and Mitsuhide clearly told Eria that it'd been her voice.

Both men stared at her, surprise and confusion echoing the same portrait on their faces. Eria grit her teeth. She hadn't wanted to get in between them, but she also hadn't wanted to see any bloodshed. "...I caught a small glimpse of the man who attacked Nobuna- um. Lord Nobunaga. But the height and body frame were... different from Mitsuhide's." she explained. There was also the fact that Mitsuhide appeared completely clean. She didn't know who, but whoever was in that temple wasn't Mitsuhide.

Hideyoshi glared at her, "Eria, was it? Stay out of this. We'll settle things with you later, and learn why you've schemed to get so close to Lord Nobunaga." "Excuse me? First of all, it's pronounced 'eye-rah.' And second, I was there by chance. I didn't even know who he was until we got out of the temple! I'm afraid I'm not the schemer you're after." she retorted. "Enough, Hideyoshi. Regardless of what brings Mitsuhide here, I am alive and well." Nobunaga interrupted once more. "My apologies, Lord Nobunaga."

Hideyoshi's hand relaxed somewhat, immediately falling from his sword. It was clear that Nobunaga's words got through to him. Although, that made sense. In History, it was said that Hideyoshi Toyotomi had been one of Nobunaga's most trusted vassals. Perhaps these guys were the real thing. "Hideyoshi, Mitsuhide, give us a moment. I have something to discuss with Eria." he spoke suddenly. "Huh- With me?" Eria questioned. Without another word, the other two men left. Leaving Eria alone with him. She felt as though she'd been left in a cage with a dangerous animal as he approached her.

"Your bold lies about coming from the future aside, you saved my life," he began, a smile forming on his lips, "I'm intrigued by you. You're a woman who carries fortune's favor, of that, I'm sure." Eria rolled her eyes, "I could argue that-" Before she could finish her sentence, her gaze widened. Nobunaga had slipped an arm around her waist, possessively drawing her closer to him. "How would you like to rule the world at my side?" he proposed.

Eria froze, rationality crumbling around her in the situation. The feeling of his strong arm around her and his offer ringing in her ears caused panic deep within. "...D-Don't you have a daughter?! A..And I've heard you mention someone named Lucille... I. I can't, I'm sorry. I'm starting my new career really, really soon, and- well- bye!" "What?" Without another word or thought, Eria pulled free from his arm and took off running. She could hear Hideyoshi and Mitsuhide call after her, but that wasn't going to stop her any time soon.

Grabbing her bag on the way out, Eria fled the small campsite.

MOTONARI MOURI

…From within the confines of a nearby inn, a man watched as the smoke dissipated from the ruins of what had once been Honno-ji. "Ha! So that's how it ends?" he spoke, a crooked laughter in his tone as he spoke. Yet there was no one in attendance to hear his words. "Looks like I came all the way out here for nothing. Thought I'd see a real party, not that sad excuse for a show." he spoke. Inhaling the acrid smoke as though it was a sweet and floral perfume, a wild grin formed on his lips.

"Heh… For a dead man like me, yer little campfire lacks the sweet smell of gunpowder." More laughter escaped him, "Well, ya can start celebrating now, Nobunaga. I'm coming back, and I'm bringing the worst the world has to offer with me."

ERIA LOUIS

She ran into a nearby forest. Only bothering to stop once all was quiet around her. At that point, she'd already run decently far. And the assumption that she'd now be safe fell over her. But the question was, safe from what, exactly? She was still in the past. Stuck in this seemingly insane time period, alone, and surrounded with madmen. Reaching into her bag, she pulled out her copy of 'A Traveler's Guide to Japan's Hottest Warlords.' There, in bold ink, it said it all:

"After Nobunaga's death, Mitsuhide launched a rebellion that gained him control of the country for a mere thirteen days, earning him the nickname of Jusan Kubo, or Thirteen-Day Ruler. His regime was quickly overthrown by the returning Hideyoshi Toyotomi." It was all written right there in ink on the page. Except now, things were different. Nobunaga Oda is alive, and there was no way Mitsuhide's coup could happen. Did that mean History was now changed? She couldn't have just stood there and let Nobunaga die. But now there was no telling of what consequences her actions will have.

Just then, she heard the soft clanging of rings and dry leaves being crushed beneath someone's foot. "Young lady, what are you doing in the woods this late at night?" came a voice. Out stepped a weathered-looking man, with a chiseled face that wore a smile. '...Is he a Buddhist monk?' she wondered. "I am called Kennyo and I am a traveling monk," he introduced, "Perhaps I can be of assistance to you?" Eria shook her head, keeping her tone as polite as she could manage by this point, "Thank you, but no need. I'm fine on my own."

Deep down, that was a lie. But there was something off about this guy. She held her breath as Kennyo took a long stride towards her, only to place his hand softly on her shoulder. "You should return home quickly. Demons lurk in the woods at night." he warned. "Thank you for the warning. Goodbye." With an awkward and uncomfortable smile that did nothing to hide her fear, Eria quickly pulled away from him and dashed off once more.

KENNYO

Once Eria was out of sight, a youthful-looking man stepped from within the shadows. Not a single sound even dared to signal his approach. Kennyo's gaze narrowed, "Ranmaru? What are you doing back here?" Ranmaru wore a sad expression, tears pricking the corners of his stormy-gray eyes, "I'm sorry, Master Kennyo. But I don't think I can stay with them after what I-" "Ranmaru, that's nonsense." Kennyo interrupted the young boy, "You performed your role at Honno-ji well. I witnessed myself how much the Devil King trusts you." he reassured.

Ranmaru seemed to flinch upon hearing the word 'trust.' "It was only because of that woman we had to retreat, but a chance to strike him down will come again." Kennyo spoke, sounding almost too sure of himself. "I... I don't think I can." Ranmaru muttered. Kennyo's gaze hardened, "Ranmaru, have you forgotten what they did? Have you forgotten our oath?" "...Not once, Master Kennyo." he answered, his voice weak.

"Do not fear you'll be discovered. You have a gift. Your charms are a blessing from Buddha." Kennyo spoke, his tone feeling uneasy to hear. Yet he smiled, "Now, smile for me, Ranmaru. It has been so long since I last saw you smile." Ignoring his request, Ranmaru spoke- "...I'll return and fulfill my mission, Master. If you're sure that's what you want."

ERIA LOUIS

Clutching her purse to her chest and keeping her eyes squeezed shut, Eria ran. She ran, desperately wishing that she could make this horrific nightmare all end. It was nothing but creepy men left and right. No obvious indications to tell her where she was going. All she could hope for was that this was nothing but a nightmare. "Watch it!" a voice suddenly interrupted her thoughts. 'What now?!' Out of nowhere, a man grabbed her hard enough to almost pull her off her feet. "Wha- Hey-" Eria stuttered as she fell backwards onto the man, sending them both to the ground.

"Ouch!" the man complained. "...I am so sorry!" Eria panicked. Discomfort filled her as she slowly realized that a well-built man with a handsome face was now lying beneath her as an unhappy cushion. As she moved to get off him, he suddenly stopped her, "Whoa, are you crazy? Don't move!" As Eria stood up, he followed, grabbing her from behind. A sudden wind coming from the great depth in front of them tugged at her hair. It was only then she'd realized she was standing on a cliff. One with a great depth too.

The man smiled, a look of relief on his face, "That was close." "Thank you for saving me-" As she turned around in his arms, her nose brushed his. And she realized just how close his light brown eyes were. "Uh!" his eyes widened, a shade of deep pink tinting his cheeks. He averted his gaze, a frown replacing his previous smile, "I don't need thanks. Just give me some space, will you!" ".R..Right." Eria muttered, immediately moving away from him. Yet he caught her arm once more. "Not that way." he reminded her.

Eria glared at him in annoyance, "I'm just giving you some space." "Well, watch it. That rock is loose. Can't you see that for yourself?" Eria narrowed her gaze, 'Actually, I lack the preternatural ability to read the terrain like some ranger in a fantasy novel! Not that he'd understand...' She crossed her arms, staring down, "Look, I'm sorry, ok? It's been a difficult night." The man blinked in surprise, "Hey, I'm not mad at you, okay?" He smiled, "Sorry for being kinda rough. Come on, I'll help."

Keeping his smile welcoming, he offered Eria his hand. Although she was hesitant, she still accepted it, giving him a quiet 'thanks.' Even though he came off as a little awkward, a part of Eria felt as though she could trust this one. "What's this, Yuki? We've been here ten minutes and you've already found yourself a girl?" a voice teased. A broad-shouldered man that was much taller than 'Yuki' met us at the edge of the forest and grinned. He had reddish-brown hair and gray eyes, and was for some reason using his sword as if it was a cane.

Yuki's eyes widened, "Don't tease me, Lord Shingen. She was about to dive off the cliff." "It was an accident," Eria spoke up, confirming, "I was running ahead without looking, that's all." "Yeah? At night in the woods, you mean? What for?" Yuki questioned, staring curiously at her. Averting her gaze, Eria answered- ".I was looking for a shortcut to my happy place…" The taller man, Shingen, smiled inquisitively, "Hmm. Smoke from Honno-ji and a woman all alone at night. Perhaps you're a ghost?" he suggested, but then added- "Though you're the most beautiful ghost I've ever seen."

Eria crossed her arms, looking at Shingen. "I'm actually quite normal. I mean, normal for a person, not a ghost." With his narrow yet flirtatious eyes on hers, she faltered brushing off the compliment. And soon, two more men joined them on the cliff. "Your ability to spew cheap pick-up lines never ceases to amaze me." one spoke. He had soft, blonde hair with one part of his bangs reaching his jawline. Yet his eyes were most curious, being duel-colored, one green and the other blue. "I just call it like I see it, Kenshin." Shingen replied.

"You there, could you please step into the light? Thank you." the other spoke, addressing Eria. His hair was dark, black with a near blue-tinted and pulled into a low side-ponytail. With delicate features and golden eyes, a single beauty mark dotted on the right side of his face by his lip. "Um. Sure, I- Hey, give me a minute!" With a delicate hand, the man drew her into the moonlight. "What a fine piece of work." he breathed. "Sorry, I'm afraid I laid eyes on this angelic treasure first." Shingen interrupted.

"We can share," the delicate man spoke, "Art is to be loved and appreciated by all. Aren't the dye patterns exquisite? So richly absorbed into the cotton." "Um-? Oh. You're talking about the kimono, okay. At least... One of you is." she mumbled. "Would you be interested in exchanging that kimono you're wearing with one from my collection?" he asked. With a touch so graceful, anyone would feel like royalty in his presence- totally not like someone who'd just been asked to strip off their clothes.

"For the last time, Yoshimoto, women aren't pieces of art, so get your hands off her, will you?!" Yuki argued, his tone clearly exasperated as he pulled Yoshimoto away. '...First "Shingen," then "Kenshin," and now "Yoshimoto?" They're all famous names too. Could they be-?' Another man arrived, standing at the edge of the thicket. Yet his footsteps didn't make a single sound. "My lords, I've returned. Nobunaga's forces have extinguished the fires at Honno-ji." he said. The man appeared to be dressed for camouflage and the ease of movement, as well with close-fitting layers that wouldn't rustle. Almost like an actual ninja.

"Thank goodness they did. That temple houses many treasures. I fear for the fire damage." Yoshimoto said. "Thank you for your investigation, Sasuke. So, I presume Nobunaga is alive, then?" Kenshin inquired. "Yes." the ninja, now known as Sasuke, nodded. Though, these men didn't appear to be celebrating the fact. "He's got the devil's luck," Shingen grimaced. "Or he is the devil." Yuki suggested, frowning. 'That's a shift in mood if I'd ever seen one.'

It appeared that these ones didn't seem to like Nobunaga all that much. But they did take him seriously. Eria considered asking more about it, but then Sasuke looked at her. "You-" he started; his eyes wide. ".Uh... me?" she questioned. "We happened to run into her here. Do you know this woman?" Kenshin asked. Sasuke averted his gaze, "No. I was mistaken. Though I spotted a village on the way here. She must be from there. I'll escort her home." "Moving quick, aren't you, Sasuke? You and Yoshimoto both. Give the rest of us a chance, will you?" Shingen teased.

Sasuke sighed, "Lord Shingen, please. You and the others should return to the city." Excusing himself, Sasuke took Eria's hand and led her back towards the forest. "Um. You've got it wrong. I'm not from a village or anything near here-" "I know. I've been waiting for you." he told her when she tried to argue. But what did he mean by that? He's been waiting for her?

Once they were deep enough within the forest, Sasuke stopped and lowered his mask. "Do you recognize me now?" he asked. "Oh, hey-" Eria thought back to the situation at the moment. Same brown hair, brown eyes, serious expression, glasses, it was him. The man from the monument. "The med-school looking guy at the Honno-ji monument, right?" she questioned. "Post-graduate in physics, not medicine," he corrected, "But I'm glad you remember me. That makes things easier." "So. You ended up here too. But why are you a ninja?" Eria asked.

"It's easier if I start from the beginning. My name is Sasuke," he introduced, "And just like you, I come from the present. Or rather, the future." He then slowly began to explain what had happened since his and Eria's encounter at the stone monument. But the explanation only served to make Eria's head spin. She had sat on a tree stump, looking up at him as he finished. "So let me get this right..." she mumbled, "That lightning strike caused spacetime to wrap around us and sent us into the past?" she asked.

"Yes. That is a very simplified and condensed version of my current theory." Sasuke confirmed, "We entered the wormhole at the same time. However, I arrived four years prior to you. In that time, I've learned that this Sengoku period, Japan's civil war, is different than the one we're familiar with." 'Different? So, there's been other changes besides my saving Nobunaga?' she wondered.

According to Sasuke, just like what had happened to Nobunaga and Eria, he himself had arrived at the date of Kenshin Uesugi's historical death. But Sasuke's quick thinking and his knowledge of modern medicine had guaranteed and ensured Kenshin's survival. Now Kenshin, like Nobunaga, was alive. But they were not the only ones. At some point, Shingen Takeda, the tall flirt, and Yoshimoto Imagawa, the art-lover, should have died as well. In this odd place and time, they were also alive when they shouldn't have been. "...I can't believe it. We changed the past?" Eria mumbled.

"To a degree. We're in an alternate Sengoku period, not the one we know from school." he nodded, "Because of fluctuations in spacetime, we're in a divergent timeline- one in which history will take a different course." Time travel, alternate histories, divergent timelines, it all sounded like science fiction. "I major in theoretical astrophysics at Kyoto University, specializing in wormholes and their potential for time travel." Sasuke explained, "I'd conceived of a method for predicting the conditions and patterns under which traversable wormholes might manifest. That's why I was at the stone monument that day. To verify my methods."

Eria had thought people in this time were something else. Yet here she was, talking to a man who could predict wormholes. "I've been looking for you here, expecting you must have traveled back in time as I did. I hadn't conceived the possibility that you would arrive four years later." Eria sighed, "...So this really isn't a dream then?" "I suppose you could say it's a dream for me. I get to see the famous men and women of the Sengoku with my own eyes." he smiled. "You... You are strangely chipper about this." she commented. "My parents were huge history buffs. I got my name from Sasuke Sarutobi, the legendary ninja who served Yukimura Sanada. Because that Sasuke is fictional, I've taken his 'place' in this time. That will let me keep my historical impact low."

Eria let out an uncomfortable groan, knowing fully well she wouldn't be able to fit in like Sasuke. One, because of her own nationality, and two, her name. But those were problems for a different time. "And were your parents secretly ninja, too? Or is that something you picked up while you were here?" she asked, wearing a smile with a slight teasing edge as she placed her hand on her hip. "I studied that here. It seemed useful to acquire a marketable vocation." Sasuke explained.

From astrophysicist to ninja, it appeared as though Sasuke was frighteningly quick at adapting. But as Eria shook off her shock, Sasuke offered his hand. "Right now, I'm employed with the men you saw earlier. Come with me. I promise I'll find a way to return us both to the present." Sasuke seemed like an odd one, but he wasn't as bad as the other men Eria had met that night. And at that moment, he was her best shot at getting home. But right as she was about to take his hand- "Eria! Where are you? Come out!"

Eria froze, recognizing the voice. It was one of Nobunaga's men, Hideyoshi, specifically. As the sound of approaching horses grew louder, Sasuke's expression fell grim. Without another word spoken, Sasuke slipped into the shadows that the forest held tight. And seemingly disappeared from sight. Yet there was no time to call out to him, as two men on horseback arrived. One of them being Hideyoshi. He smiled, breathing a sigh of relief once he saw Eria, "I searched the whole forest for you."

Eria kept her gaze low, slightly brushing one hand against her arm, "...There was no reason to." There was no kindness in her voice, she wasn't exactly in the mood to be kind or sympathetic. Especially when Hideyoshi had just driven off her one ticket home. Hideyoshi's smile fell, "Hiding yourself from Lord Nobunaga for no reason whatsoever. How insolent can you get?" he reprimanded. "...No reason? It sounded like he was proposing marriage to me and didn't seem like he would take no for an answer!" she bit back.

The other man on horseback laughed. "You're Eria? A stalwart lass indeed." he chuckled, "I've no doubt you're the woman who defied Lord Nobunaga." Eria gave the man a look of annoyance, taking in his appearance. He had dark brown hair, with a single blue eye, the other seemingly hidden behind his eyepatch. "And you are? Someone else I'm supposed to recognize?" she questioned. The one-eyed man reached down for her. "I'd be pleased if you did, but now's not the best time to talk."

"Hey, let me go!" Eria argued as he effortlessly lifted her up and placed her atop his horse in front of him. Tucked snugly against his chest, Eria had a fine view of his domineering smile. "Masamune Date. Remember it, Eria." he said, amusement dancing across his face. 'Right. Obviously, he's Masamune Date. I'm way over quota on famous warlords tonight!' "Masamune is head of the noble Date family of Oshu. He's also allied with Lord Nobunaga, so show some respect." Hideyoshi spoke. To Eria, it just sounded like an unnecessary bit of trivia. And if Hideyoshi was hoping to impress her with that, then he'd have better luck elsewhere. "I appreciate the introduction. Can I be put down now?" Eria deadpanned.

"Settle down. You'll spook the horse." Masamune told her. "I could care less about the horse right now. I'm pretty uncomfortable, or as you put it, spooked myself." "Come to think of it, you do look a little spooked." Masamune teased, amusement glinting in his one visible eye. However, that didn't stop him from urging his horse forward with a snap of the reins and a shout. 'No! I want you to let me go!' The horse broke into a run, and Eria was forced to cling to Masamune or fall off.

"Don't lose her, Masamune." Hideyoshi commanded. "I won't," Masamune chuckled, turning his attention back to Eria, "Hold on tight, Eria." "I don't want to go with you guys!" she argued. Hideyoshi narrowed his gaze in annoyance, "Lord Nobunaga has already departed camp. He ordered you brought to him." Hideyoshi, riding beside them, looked clearly unhappy with that order. "Well, you can tell Nobunaga to go fuck himself." Eria hissed back. "Watch your tone." Hideyoshi threatened, glaring at her.

Masamune let out another chuckle of amusement, "We need to ride fast if we're gonna catch up. Don't fall off, now." "Hey, wait! Where the hell are you taking me?" Eria's complaints were all in vain as Masamune spurred the horse on faster. They rode throughout the night until they finally arrived at their destination. The building they approached stood tall, like a fortress, castle, and city all rolled into one. "We're here, Eria. Azuchi Castle, home of the Oda forces." Masamune informed her.

Eria stared at it with a slight awe in her gaze. After all, the real Azuchi Castle had been destroyed not long after Nobunaga's death. "Don't show yourself to Lord Nobunaga with that expression. You look like a gaping frog." Hideyoshi commented. 'And you look like an annoying monkey yet you show yourself to him like that every day.' she wanted to say, but bit her tongue. Not bothering to look at him, Eria flipped Hideyoshi off and kept her tone mellow as she spoke- "I do not so you can go fuck yourself. I haven't even agreed to see Nobunaga."

Before Hideyoshi got a chance to bite back, Masamune interrupted- "So you're a morning person. I'll keep that in mind." His joking tone spoken directly into her ear reminded her that he was still holding her. "Anyway, we're here now, so put me down." she spoke, heat rising to her face. Masamune chuckled, "Actually, I think not. I'm pretty happy with you right here." "Well, I'm not." Hideyoshi groaned, "Masamune, our Lord Nobunaga has taken an interest in her. Keep your hands off her."

"Why does that matter? He's already got Lucille; he doesn't need her. Besides, I like Eria, too." Masamune retorted, "Men don't thrive in the shadows of other men. In battle, or in love." "Listen, you two-" The light in Masamune's eye was like that of a tiger's delight when hunting prey. She almost wondered what the prey must feel like, when- "Hideyoshi! Welcome back!" A series of excited calls drew Eria back into her surroundings. "Over here, Hideyoshi!" "Oh, Masamune, you're dashing as ever! Who's your friend?" A crowd of women, cheering and waving, lined up at the gate seemingly to welcome the two men back.

Masamune playfully rolled his eyes, his expression turning neutral, "How can you get this welcome every single time, Hideyoshi? Break a heart or two, will you?" "What do you take me for?" Hideyoshi replied. With a shrug, he dismounted his horse and walked towards the crowd. "I've told you there's no need to come all the way to the gate for me. What about your work?" he said. "I finished early so I could see you when you came back." "Hideyoshi, will you be staying long? I hope we'll have time to catch up." Hideyoshi sighed, giving the women a smile, "Don't let me keep you waiting. I'll send a letter as soon as things settle down." "Of course! Take as long as you need!"

Still on Masamune's horse, Eria watched Hideyoshi with a look of astonishment. "...So he's a big sweetheart and NOT an ultra-stiff paranoiac?" she mumbled in shock. "That's how he normally is. I guess you're just special." Masamune replied. "He's nice to everyone except me? That makes me feel the opposite of special." she complained. "It goes both ways. There aren't many women who don't fall for Hideyoshi at first sight." Masamune looked at Eria, curiosity sparking in his gaze. "So, who are you, really?" he asked.

As Masamune got closer, Eria stiffened up. But just then- "Welcome back, Lord Hideyoshi, Lord Masamune." came a familiar voice. Mitsunari stood at the gate with a young man next to him. The man was petite, with a tousle of fawn-colored hair and vibrant green eyes, a look of displeasure on his face. Masamune spotting Mitsunari and the young man up ahead, turned to Eria and smiled. "Even Ieyasu came out to say hi. That's rare." he commented. "Ieyasu..? As in Ieyasu Tokugawa is here?" she questioned, a hint of disbelief to her voice.

"Right there, actually. He's the sourpuss next to Mitsunari. You should take this chance to say hi." Masamune pointed out. He helped Eria off the horse and led her by the hand through the throng of Hideyoshi's admirers. They stopped at the gate where Mitsunari, and the man who was supposedly Ieyasu Tokugawa, waited. Mitsunari smiled, "I've been expecting your arrival, Lady Eria." His smile was certainly a welcome sight, but she had more important things to worry about. "Mitsunari, I don't have anything to say to Nobunaga-" she began only to be interrupted.

"She looks pitiful." the man beside Mitsunari spoke, talking right over her and delivering a harsh and un-asked for assessment with a disapproving frown. "You're Eria?" he questioned. She nodded, "I am. And wow, you're Ieyasu?" "What if I am?" his frown deepened. "What if you are, what?" Ieyasu kept his frozen cold gaze fixed on Eria. Was the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate really such a little brat? He had a pretty appearance, almost like a doll. However, that only made his peevish attitude even worse.

Hideyoshi approached, giving a much warmer smile than before as he did. "Ieyasu, that's no way to greet someone. Can't you give them a smile, at least?" Masamune chuckled, "Can he? I'm not sure I've ever seen him do it." he turned his one eye on Ieyasu, "What does your smile look like?" Ieyasu narrowed his gaze, "Why is that important?" "Don't be unsociable. You need to let loose. Learn to smile and laugh." Hideyoshi lectured. "I'll help. Hideyoshi, you take his left." "S-stop it! You're both just annoying me!" Scrunching up his face, Ieyasu somehow scrambled out from under Hideyoshi and Masamune's tickling grasps. They all seemed quite friendly with each other.

Eria watched, a look of astonishment on her face when Mitsunari turned to her and spoke in a low voice. "Like Lord Masamune, Lord Ieyasu is also allied with Lord Nobunaga. He came here immediately, hearing the news of the assassination attempt." Eria looked at Mitsunari, nodding in understanding, "...Hmm. So that's why the who's who of famous warlords are all here." "Everyone?" Mitsunari spoke up, smiling warmly as the others turned their attention to him. "Shall we save the happy reunion until after our new arrivals get some rest?" he suggested. "Save yourself, Mitsunari. I'm not remotely happy about any of this." Ieyasu grumbled.

"Oh, my apologies." Mitsunari's smile fell, "Then let's simply not stand around and talk outside." His gaze turned back to Eria, "Lady Eria, the room you'll be staying in is already prepared. Please, get some rest." Seeming to ignore her earlier refusal, Mitsunari ushered her into the keep of Azuchi Castle. Meanwhile, in the castle town below-

YUKIMURA SANADA

Yukimura stood in the town, looking around with an expression of surprise on his face. "I didn't expect this to be such a cheerful place." he muttered. He continued to look around, taking stock of such a prosperous town. But then he frowned, "Now where has Sasuke gone? I haven't heard from him since yesterday." He sighed, shaking his head, "Well, I'm sure he's fine." Yukimura turned towards the main keep of Azuchi Castle. Determination, tinged with a bloodshed of vengeance pooled within his youthful gaze.

"Justice is coming. I hope you're prepared, Nobunaga."

ERIA LOUIS

Within the castle, Mitsunari led Eria to a spacious and comfortable looking room. "Lady Eria, this room is yours to use as you like. I hope it's enough for you." Mitsunari smiled. Almost like she was entranced, Eria smiled back. "It's more than enough, it's almost too much. And please, just call me Eria." Mitsunari shook his head, "But you're a lady, and Lord Nobunaga's savior. I couldn't possibly." "It's fine, really. I'm not used to any sort of title or fancy treatment, nor do I need it." she insisted. "Then I agree on the condition that you stay as familiar with me. Is that all right, Eria?" he asked. "That's perfect, Mitsunari." 'Not that I could say no to that smile.' "Thank you. Now, take your leisure. Someone will come to fetch you soon." he told her.

Smiling politely, Mitsunari left the room and closed the door behind him. There had been no sign of Sasuke since the previous night. And Eria was at a loss, what was she supposed to do? Eria sank down to the floor and emptied the contents of her bag before her. There was the guidebook, a cell phone, wallet, house key, sketchbook, sewing kit-

Eria let out a long sigh. But then, she heard a 'tock' sound from above. 'What was that?' She looked up at the ceiling just in time for a panel to slide open, and a familiar face to pop out. "Excuse me, Eria. I'm not bothering you, am I?" Sasuke asked. "Sasuke?! The fuck are you doing in the ceiling like some rat-? No. Never mind. No, you're not bothering me. Did you follow me here?" she asked. "Yes, I hid myself when those men arrived and followed your trail." Sasuke confirmed. Eria let out a sigh of relief, "I can't believe I'm saying that I was happy to be stalked, but I am."

Sasuke jumped down from the ceiling, landing without a single peep. He pulled his mask down. "In watching you, I've peeved together much of what happened. You've gotten yourself into some trouble." he commented. "I think I've done worse than that. I flipped off Hideyoshi and told him to go fuck himself." she muttered. Sasuke smiled, slight amusement in his expression, "There's trouble, and then there's Trouble. That said, I forgot to tell you something important back in the forest. I mentioned I was researching a way for us to get home?" he asked. Eria nodded. "Recently, I was able to confirm that a wormhole opens here at fixed periods," Sasuke began.

"Really! So that means-?" "Please, keep your voice down. I'm not supposed to be here, and it would be bad if I were caught." he reminded her. "I'll be concise. The next wormhole will provide our way home. Leaving the rationale behind its recurrence aside, according to my data… The next traversable wormhole will appear in three months." he informed her. "I'm still calculating its location, but chances are good that if we make contact with it, we'll return to the present." Eria let out a sigh, a relieved smile forming on her lips, "All you need to tell me is that we can get back. I'm so relieved."

"However, it's best if you spend these next three months here," he said. "In Azuchi? Why?" Eria asked. Sasuke's gaze fell to the ground, "We're in the midst of a chaotic civil war, one that's now further away from ending than the one in our timeline. Besides, Nobunaga and his men seem rather fond of you. I doubt they'd let you go easily." Eria rolled her eyes, "Yeah. Given their penchant for hunting me like some wild animal." "One more thing-" Sasuke said, "Don't get deeply involved with the people of this time."

Eria gave him a confused look, "Deeply involved? Sasuke, I'm going to be in close contact with them for three months." "That is to say, don't fall in love. It might cloud your desire to return to the future." he clarified. Eria laughed, "Love? There's no worry of that happening. Have you spoken to any of these people?" "...All right. I recommend you keep the fact that you come from the present a secret too." "Mhmm. Right. Not that anyone would believe it." she agreed. 'Good thing the two people I told thought I was just joking or smoke-addled...'

"My employer is in the city below and I'm staying with him. I'll be able to come to your aid quickly." Sasuke informed her. "Your employer? What are you here for-" she began, but was interrupted. Her question falling unanswered as Sasuke's gaze shot to the door. Someone was there. Pulling on his mask, Sasuke stood up, "We'll speak more later. Farewell." and with that, he vaulted out the window.

"I see you weren't able to get away from Nobunaga after all." came a voice as the door slid open. It was the one Eria felt, probably the least comfortable with at the moment, despite his beautiful appearance, Mitsuhide Akechi. "He's calling for you. Nobunaga, that is. He wants to see you." Mitsuhide told her. "Okay." she said, standing from where she was on the floor. He said no more and turned to go, leaving Eria to follow quickly behind him. This was the same man who had betrayed Nobunaga in the history she'd known, he was also the one who arranged the assassination.

Despite the fact the person she'd seen attacking Nobunaga looked different, that didn't let Mitsuhide completely off the hook. She was dragging her feet, practically forcing herself to walk this unwanted audience. Suddenly, Mitsuhide spoke- "You'll damage them if you keep squeezing so tightly." He lifted up one of her hands, now clearly pointing out that she'd been squeezing her hands so tight, the knuckles were white. But suddenly, he took her borrowed hand and pressed a kiss to it. Causing her to step back. "What do you think you're doing?" she asked, accusatory in her tone.

But his smile remained neutral, "Trying to calm you down." he said. She narrowed her eyes, "For your information, you failed." she spoke, not an ounce of kindness to be found. "I beg your forgiveness." he replied, though his tone didn't sound even the slightest bit of sincere. Still smiling, Mitsuhide continued walking. Was he just messing with her? If that was the case. Mitsuhide was unreadable, dangerously so. Reminding herself to be wary, Eria followed Mitsuhide at a safe distance from then on.

Deep in the castle, Mitsuhide and Eria came to a stop in front of a wall with beautifully painted screens. As they opened- "You kept me waiting, Eria." Nobunaga frowned. "Um... I apologize." Nobunaga sat alone on the dais. The power of his presence filled the room. Forming rows on either side of him were Hideyoshi Toyotomi, Mitsunari Ishida, Mitsuhide Akechi and Ieyasu Tokugawa. Masamune Date was there, too. Some of the country's brightest minds, strongest warlords, and infamous conquerors all in one room.

But that's when Eria noticed her. One that stood out for being neither a warlord or a man for that matter. A woman, who sat quietly beside Nobunaga, closest to Hideyoshi. She had long, golden blonde hair and vibrant green eyes, dressed in a deep red kimono with a red tint to her lips to match. Was this the woman Lucille that Eria had already heard mentioned more than once?

"Don't just stand there. Approach me." Nobunaga commanded. Swallowing her nerves, Eria nodded. Silently doing as he'd told her to, kneeling before him. "Henceforth, you will reside in this castle and give your service to me." Nobunaga decided. "As I've said before, I have another job. So, I must politely decline." Eria replied, biting back her harsh tone. Nobunaga's gaze hardened, "None of that matters to me. All you need to do is say 'Yes.'" His gaze was cold, eerily so. Eria had found herself in a precarious situation, and she didn't think Nobunaga was going to be gracious if she tried running again.

Her current best shot for going home is to spend the next three months in Azuchi. Eria grit her teeth, biting back what little pride she had, "...Yes, Lord Nobunaga. I have one question, though. How exactly am I to serve you?" she asked. "However you like," he answered. "Pardon?" Nobunaga took Eria's wrist with elegantly long fingers, drawing her closer. "Your only duty is to stay nearby. That is what I need of you." he smiled. And despite his low voice sounding pleasant in her ears, there wasn't a hint of kindness to be found. "You will be my lucky charm as I unify this nation and all that lies beyond."

Eria stared at him in disbelief, "...You want me around because you believe I'm lucky?" He nodded, "Yes. And don't fear. You shall be known as a princess from afar and will be treated as such. Spend your days on makeup, or cards and games if it suits you." "Oh hell no. I will go crazy if that's all I can do." Eria replied. "What?" Nobunaga questioned. "I agree with you, Eria. I'm the same way." Masamune commented. Suddenly, a light giggle echoed from somewhere in the room as footsteps approached.

Suddenly, the woman Eria had seen beside Nobunaga now crouched down in front of her. A fond smile on her rouge-tinted lips as she traced Eria's jaw. "...I like this one. She's got more attitude, more personality to her." she spoke, her voice like a gentle melody. "I'd love to see what she's capable of before one of you chases her off. Why don't you give her a more suitable role other than just 'princess?'" the woman suggested, looking directly at Nobunaga. "So be it." he replied, "Eria, I appoint you as my chatelaine."

"What an excellent idea. Eria, I'll provide you with all the support you need to get started." Mitsunari smiled gently. "How could this waif possibly be any use?" Ieyasu grumbled. "It's Lord Nobunaga's decision, Ieyasu. Hold your tongue." Hideyoshi lectured, "Though, even if Lady Lucille approves of her, only time will tell if we can trust her." "Who says you have to?" Mitsuhide spoke up, "Just keep an eye on her. You're good at that, right? She may surprise you." "Then it's decided. Work hard and prove your worth to me, Eria." Nobunaga smiled, his grin full of ambition and pride.

Her gaze flickering from the strange woman to Nobunaga, she smiled, "...I won't let you down." That day, she set her resolve. She'd survive her time here, and make it back to the present. Looking up to meet both their gazes, the woman and Nobunaga looked equally satisfied. "I plan to take very good care of you, Eria." Nobunaga spoke. The woman snickered at his comment, helping Eria to her feet and resting a hand on the girl's shoulder. "You better, Nobunaga. If you don't, I'll certainly look after her myself. I'd rather she stay a long, long time.."

"..Um. Who are you, exactly...?" Eria asked. "Oh. How rude of me.." the woman's eyes widened ever so slightly, before her expression fell back into a relaxed smile. "My name is Lucille. I believe we're going to be good friends, Eria." her tone was soft. Not just like a melody, but also with a maternal hint to it. As if she were speaking to a scared child. From that moment on, Eria began her life in Azuchi Castle. She had believed to have prepared herself for anything. Yet she hadn't prepared for the possibility of a sneaky kitsune finding his way into her heart with his tragic truth.
