Chapter 1
Police Officer Mark Carter looked upon the youthful appearing face of the new female officer who was assigned to his patrol car. He knew she was older than she appeared as she was closer to his sister's age but being so petit she looked much like a little kid playing dress up in the uniform. Sporting a light blue shirt with dark blue trousers and a black police duty vest with light brown hair that was kept short and slight curl, Mark could only shake his head as he expected to be teased endlessly by suspects and fellow officers alike in the coming days and weeks ahead solely due to the petite woman he was assigned to work with.
Mark wore is uniform which matched his new partner's outfit right down to the duty belt. His blue eyes settled on his new partner and the situation that unfolded. He puffed his cheeks and brushed back his brown hair with his hand.
She looked upon her new partner. He was tall and a rather good looking man. The blue eyes and brown hair reminded her of a love from your past as she smiled and greeted, "Second Class Officer Jacqueline Garrett." she held out a hand. "My friends call me 'Jackie.'" she introduced herself in the parking lot of the police building.
"Mark Carter." he shook her hand. "Transferred to the Colorado Springs, huh?"
"Yup, my first day on my new job." she smiled pleasantly. "I'm looking forward to it." she cheered overly optimistic.
Mark asked fiddling with the squad car key, "Where was your last job?"
"F.B.I.." she remarked not very enthused.
He paused, "Why leave the F.B.I. for our department? I bet you made more money there."
"I worked with a lot of good people but there is some serious issues and rot at the core." she replied. "So, I relocated here. The schools are good and my son is interested in joining the Air Force when he graduates." She asked, "Which car is ours?"
"This one," he motioned and unlocked the car remotely. He opened the door and slid behind the wheel. His partner slid into the passengers' seat. She let Mark show her the equipment as she didn't have to go through the local Academy due to her previous experience. She found the radio and computer were standard. The lights and sires were also were expected to find the controls.
Mark started the squad car and soon they were on patrol. He mentioned, "My sister is in the Air Force. She's a Major. She works in the mountain. My dad comes through here to visit. Not sure where is living now. He's a retired general. If your son has any questions, I'm sure they will be happy to give him some answers."
"That's really sweet." she smiled. "Thank you. I'll let him know. Danny is in high school." She let out a deep sigh, "He doesn't have many friends. I hope he makes a friend out here. New York was hard on us both and was D.C." She then asked, "You got any kids? I see you have a wedding ring. I assume you are married."
"A boy and a girl." he nodded. "My wife works as the school. Maggie! She's the school nurse."
"I'm sure Danny will get to know here then." she stated. "He tends to get winded and forgets to take his inhaler. He has terrible allergies. He got that from his father." she explained.
Mark stated, "I notice you don't have a ring."
"I'm not married." she informed. "Never married; single mom."
"My sister's not married. I got a friend I want to fix her up with. Pete! Good guy. He's a homicide detective." he bragged.
Jackie cocked an eyebrow, "Does she want to be fixed up? Because there is nothing worse than blind dates and being fixed up when you really have no desire to be."
He guessed, "I think she's ready. No kids and that ole clock is ticking down."
"Oh' boy," she rolled her eyes and shook her head amused.
Mark asked, "So…why did you become a cop?"
"My family! We're all cops. My dad was the sheriff in my home county back in New York. My brothers are all cops." she started, "I got my criminal justice degree right after high school, then went through department training as a cadet and became a deputy sheriff for my first job." She then bragged, "And that same summer I had my first big undercover investigation."
He asked amused, "What was your first big undercover job? High school drug bust."
"No," she shook her head. "That summer I was sent in to a summer camp in the mountains. The owners were getting threatening letters in the mail. Post Office could not trace who was doing it. It was my first big case! Me and one of the councilors busted the case wide open. I was not listed as staff or a camper. I was listed as a 'guest' and everyone thought I was a teenager at first. Then the staff thought I was there to fire people." she laughed. "I had to dress in summer clothes and carry my revolver in a pink fanny pack. That was one hell of a summer." She gazed out the window, "That's where I met my son's father."
Mark asked, "Was he a camper or councilor?"
"Councilor." she assured. "He was in college and needed the credit from the work. Very smart man, could speak over a dozen languages. He had this Ancient Alien theory. He thought the pyramids were landing pads for space ships."
Mark stated, "Sounds like someone my sister would hang out with."
"He was a lot of fun." she insisted. "I bet your sister is a lot of fun too."
"Sam's a riot." he agreed. "So are her weird friends."
"I'm sure we all have at least one weird friend." she rebutted.
He insisted, "She's got many!"
Meanwhile
Teenage clone Jonathon O'Neill made his way through high school to gym class. It was spring and nearing the end of the school year. The only department he actually enjoyed to the fullest was athletics as through he had the mind of a fifty year old man, he had the body of a fifteen year old boy and the energy to boot.
He made his way into the locker room to change into his gym clothes. He quickly found his locker and a new face nearby. He stood and watched for a moment at the new boy. He was lanky and tall, had blown floppy hair and rounded glasses. He glanced up from the locker as he tugged at his shirt. He then became bashful as Jon was staring at him with the most disturbed look.
"What?" the boy asked.
Jon saw the spiting image of Daniel in the boy's face. He shook himself, "Nothing! You new here." he figured and went to his locker.
"First day." he agreed.
"I'm Jon." he introduced himself.
"Danny." he replied.
Jon stood like a deer caught in the headlights. "Your name is Daniel?" he gasped.
The boy squinted unsure why Jon looked so shocked, "Yes. It's a common name. Hebrew in fact."
He cocked an eyebrow, "Loki do you too?" He wondered if perhaps Loki had done the same to Daniel that he had done to Jack.
"What?" he asked bewildered. "Loki? The Norse god?" He then wondered, "You some kind of joker?"
"No," he shook his head hard. He pondered what to say next, "You just remind me of someone." He became awkward, "Anyways…Jon O'Neill." he offered a hand shake.
Danny shook his hand, "Danny Garrett. Nice to meet you."
"Same." he agreed. "Where you from?" he asked as he went to the task of gathering his gym clothes.
"Originally New York. Then Virginia and D.C.. My mom is a cop. She used to work for the F.B.I. but quit." he mentioned.
Jon asked, "Why did she quit?"
"She found a cult and wanted to bust it but got shot down. I guess the cult has members in the F.B.I.." he explained. "I am thinking of joining the Air Force. So, we moved out here. She got a job with the police department."
Jon stated, "I' was in the Air Force." He then corrected himself, "I mean my dad is in the Air Force." He glanced over at Danny's confused expression. "I'm thinking of going to the Academy." he excused.
"Me too." Danny stated. "I want to learn to fly a plane."
"I can teach ya…" he winced to himself. "I mean…my dad can set you up with lessons."
Danny grinned, "That would be cool. I want to major in physics."
Jon was relieved he didn't say he was into language and archeology for that would be too much like Daniel for his taste. He smiled, "I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
"I don't have any friends." Danny explained.
"I'm your friend." Jon insisted.
He paused, "You want to be my friend?"
"Why not?" he asked.
Danny pondered, "Why not?" he agreed.
Later that Week
For Officers Mark Carter and Jackie Garrett the week was rather average with traffic tickets, domestic disputes and occasional motor vehicle accidents to tend to. Mark had gotten to know his new partner and welcomed her and her son into the community with open arms. They were soon dispatched to a minor motor vehicle accident in the north west quadrant of the city. Upon arrival they found a large black quad cab, dual wheel pickup truck had been rear ended by a small compact red car driven by a young woman who seemed to be a new driver. It was obvious the girl failed to pay attention to the large truck stopping before her.
Standing outside the large truck was an older man in jeans and a leather jacket. Beside him was black man wearing jeans and a jacket as well. Mark recognized the two men.
He stated, "Looks like the Colonel had a fender bender."
"You know the driver of the truck?" she asked.
He nodded, "Works with Sam in the mountain. Friends with my dad. Colonel Jack O'Neill. That other man is Teal'c. Not sure where he is from or what he does."
Jack O'Neill stood rather perturbed as he watched the patrol car pull up after the young driver rear ended him at a stop light. There was no damage to his truck but to the small red car, the front end was smashed. The young teen driver on her flip phone calling her father in tears. He was tempted to drive off but knew the girl would need a police report for insurance. His eyes settled on Mark as he emerged from the car with his new partner. He let out a deep sigh. He then looked upon the young appearing partner. He asked himself, "They robbing the cradle of cops now?"
"Colonel O'Neill." Mark greeted.
"Mark." he gave a half smile and a nod.
"Teal'c." Mark gave the Jaffa a nod.
"OfficerCarter." he replied as he waited for the accident to be cleared.
Jackie approached the teen girl and got her statement as Mark went to Jack. Mark asked, "Rear ended ya, huh?"
"She was too busy talking on her phone." he huffed annoyed. Though he had no damage to his truck he found the situation irritating and it consumed his time. He then asked, "Is that your partner?"
"Jackie!" he nodded. "She's Sam's age."
He balked, "She looks like a kid in that uniform."
"She was F.B.I. before coming here." he chuckled.
Jackie meanwhile had written the report and issued a citation for failure to stop to the teen driver. She radioed for a tow truck and then came to Mark to gather notes a few minutes later.
"I got a tow coming." she informed. She then spied the emblem on Teal'c. She recognized the symbol. "Apophis." It was if it had been engraved onto the Jaffa's forehead and that alarmed her.
Teal'c stated, "A symbol of a false god."
Mark introduced, "Jackie…This is Teal'c Smith. He works with Sam. Teal'c, this is new partner, Jackie Garrett."
"OfficerGarrett." Teal'c acknowledged.
Jackie asked, "Where are you from, Teal'c?"
Jack interrupted, "He's not from around here."
"Obviously." she agreed. "Can I see your green card?" she requested.
Teal'c complied as Jack protested.
"What do you need to see his green card for?" he barked.
She lied, "To properly spell his name and address for my report." In reality she found Teal'c to be rather odd for the surname sounded fake and the symbol on his forehead was like a branding. She wondered if perhaps she stumbled onto another cult.
Teal'c handed her his green card and she noted the information. "You live on a military base?"
"Indeed." the Jaffa agreed.
She found the situation just odd and the symbol of Apophis stuck out for her.
Mark asked her, "You actually know what the symbol says?"
"It's ancient Egyptian." she nodded. "My ex boyfriend taught me how to read it."
Jack gave a heavy sigh, "Can we just hurry this up?"
Mark nodded, "Just about done." He looked to Jackie, "All set with the girl?"
"Waiting for the tow." she reminded him. She handed the card back to Teal'c, "It's nice to meet you, Teal'c."
"And you." he remained courteous and polite.
"You coming for the cookout next week, Jack?" Mark asked him. "I told Sam to invite her friends from work and to let dad know."
He agreed, "I'll make sure Jacob gets there." He asked, "Can we go now?"
"Sure thing." Mark agreed as he was finished.
Jack climbed back into his truck with Teal'c and soon left the scene behind as the tow truck arrived for the damaged red car.
Mark looked to Jackie, "You and Danny coming to the cookout?"
"Will Teal'c be there?" she asked.
"Oh' yeah!" he nodded with a grin.
She agreed, "I want to ask him more about that symbol."
Mark told her, "I didn't even know what it meant. You did! That should blow Sam's mind."
"I look forward to meeting her and your dad." she told him as they continued to work the scene.
