Issue 3: A New Path pt. 3
'I'M GONNA DIE!' Ron's mind was screaming at him as he barely managed to duck underneath the flaming green claws swinging at his head. He then quickly jumped back dodging the powerful kick that followed. Shego used the momentum from the missed kick to spin her body and sent a second kick at the masked teens abdomen. This one found it's mark and sent him flying back several feet and knocking the wind out of his lungs.
Ron was barely able to get a quick breath in, Shego's claws burned brightly seconds before she quickly swung her arm sending several flaming balls of plasma at the teen. Ron twisted his body quickly as he tried avoid the attack. Ron felt the heat from the blasts and could smell the plasma as they whizzed past him, singing his shirt and pants. Ron stumbled and fell to the floor before rolling and getting back up into a three-point stance staring down the emerald villainess. His breathing ragged from dodging attacks for the last few moments.
Shego stood with her hands on her hips and her head cocked to her left looking at the masked intruder. "I hope you can put up more of a fight than this. I gotta admit after the goons and drones I'm hoping that I can at least get a decent workout from you."
'I am so dead.' Ron was panting and was searching all over the hallway that they were in. He scanned the hall and thought back to everything in the building he had seen as he had run his way through it. He kept hoping that he would see something or remember seeing something that could help him get out of this. Finally, an idea came to him.
Shego looked at her nails for a moment. "Look if you're not gonna give me a workout could you at the very least make the groveling good…"
"I'll give you one chance." Shego stopped and stared at the masked man.
"What was that?" She asked raising a brow. The masked man simply stood staring back at her from a dozen feet away.
"One chance to get out of the way before I move you out of the way." The hall was eerily quiet for several seconds before a smile broke out across the villain's face and a chuckle escaped her lips.
"Well, this might be fun after all." Shego positioned her hands and feet into fighting stance. After a second the masked man moved into a ready position as well. The two combatants stood in the hall staring each other down for almost a minute but it felt like a lifetime to the masked teen. Then Shego extended her hand and motioned with her fingers for him to make a move. Ron tensed for a moment before taking a deep steadying breath.
And then turning and bolting down the hallway, away from Shego. Ron raced a few dozen feet down the hall before turning into another hall.
Shego blinked for a moment before letting out a disappointed sigh and coming out of her stance. She then pinched the bridge of her nose before shaking her head. "Another man disappoints me."
Shego then began running down the hall after the masked man. "Really? You wind a lady up like that and just take off, huh? I promise this isn't going to end very well for you when I get my hands on yo… AHHHHHHHHH!"
Shego was cut off as she rounded the corner that the masked man had disappeared down before being blasted in the face with a continuous stream of foam. Shego had run around the corner so fast that she didn't even process the sight of the masked man waiting for her with a fire extinguisher before he squeezed the trigger. Shego screamed, gagged and flailed her arms as she stumbled back into a wall as Ron pressed forward with the extinguisher. The enraged villain tried in vain to ignite her hands but the industrial grade foam was doing its job.
'I can't believe that this actually worked.' Ron was elated that his plan was working. Unfortunately, after a few more seconds Ron heard the extinguisher begin to sputter and the spray began to slow. Ron kept the trigger pulled and started to shake the cannister hoping that it might, somehow, shake loose more foam from it. 'No. No. No!'
Shego was still flailing and sputtering trying to ignite her hands. Shego was angry, embarrassed, angry, distressed and angry. She had been doing this for years fought villains, heroes, cops and crooks; somehow no one had ever tried using a fire extinguisher to stop her powers before. If she wasn't so enraged, she might have been surprised that it took so many years before someone thought to try this on her. Then she heard the sputtering of the extinguisher and she realized that she was about to be free.
A few seconds later and the foam from the extinguisher stopped, and Shego let fury be known to the masked man. She ignited her hands with a fury she rarely showed, burning off the foam that remained on her hands and arms. She let out a roar as she then proceeded to wipe the foam that was still on her face and obscuring her eyes.
"Okay, now the gloves are off you…" Shego was cut off as her head snapped to the side and her world began spinning. Ron felt the vibrations traveling up his arms as the extinguisher made contact with the side of Shego's face. Ron knew that with Shego's powers and her healing that that wasn't going to stop her for long.
Ron quickly pressed his attack swinging the extinguisher up and catching her on the chin. She stumbled away from the wall as Ron swung again catching her in the right shoulder causing her to begin spinning as she stumbled. Before Ron could take a fourth swing, he saw that Shego had managed to stop stumbling and the tell tale burning of her hands showed that she was ready to go on the attack. Ron quickly changed tactics instead throwing the extinguisher at the villain.
Shego instinctively slashed at the canister. Her flaming claws sliced through it easily, just as Ron was hoping that she would. The foam that was left in the, slightly, still pressurized canister doused the flames on her hands and blinded her again. Ron rushed forward and proceeded to deliver a blow to the villain's stomach, then he delivered two more quick jabs to her stomach and her already injured shoulder.
'I'm winning. I'm actually winning!' Ron then attempted to deliver a roundhouse kick to her head hoping to land a knockout blow. His foot stopped when a green gloved hand grabbed his ankle instantly stopping his attack. Ron's eyes widened as he looked at his opponent and for an instant his shocked eyes locked with Shego's rage filled one.
Then the corridor was filled with Ron's scream as Shego's hand ignited while still holding onto the boy's ankle. Ron could smell burning fabric and his own burning flesh; if he weren't in so much pain and in a fight for his life he would be throwing up. Ron jumped up into the air and quickly swung his other leg in an attempt to kick Shego. She raised her right arm to block the kick however due to the shoulder injury it caused her just enough pain to make her drop Ron.
Ron quickly rolled away from Shego and turned to try and run away from the woman again. He only got a few feet before hearing her scream. "Not this time bastard!"
Ron noticed a massive glow fill the room behind him and he felt a massive heat begin to bear down from behind him. Ron realized a second too late what was coming as he was struck in the back by a massive plasma blast Shego had released from both of her hands. Ron let out another scream as the plasma burned through the back of his shirt and scorched his back. Ron stumbled forward and crashed down onto the floor before quickly getting back to his feet, he heard the sound of Shego's foots steps rushing toward him.
Ron turned toward the villain knowing that there was no chance that he would be able to escape running. He hoped that she would be so angry she would be sloppy enough that Ron might have a chance. Ron turned only to be met by a flying kick to his jaw by the enraged woman, his head whipped to the side disorienting him. The next thing he felt was a searing pain in his stomach as Shego slashed his abdomen with her flaming claws, before he could let out a scream Shego delivered an upper cut to his jaw. She then grabbed him by the back of his head and pulled his head down as she jumped up and drove her knee directly into the teens nose.
Ron stumbled back before falling onto his back, the copper taste and smell filling his senses. Ron rolled onto his hands and knees in an attempt to stand back up, but was met with a sharp kick to the ribs dropping him back to the floor. He was then dealt two more kicks to his sides, Ron then tried to get up again before having a foot slam down onto his spine shoving him to the floor again. There was a brief moment where everything seemed to stop and all Ron could hear was the sound of his own pained and labored breathing.
Then Shego spoke up.
"Hey… Hero." Ron pushed himself up slightly and turned his head to look up at Shego. His chocolate orbs met her furious emerald ones for a brief moment before she quickly delivered a punch to the masked teens face. Ron groaned as Shego harshly lifted him up and turned him around to face her before delivering another punch to his face.
"You… Are… Done!" Shego punctuated every word with another punch. She then dropped Ron onto his back, all that was heard in the hallway was his labored gasping breaths and her furious snorting.
"Well… For a moment there I almost thought he had you there Shego." Ron heard the voice of Doctor Drakken booming through the hall. Ron's eyes began searching for the Doctor before he realized it was coming over the intercom. Shego never took her eyes off of Ron as she answered.
"What do you want Doc?" Shego snapped and it was quiet for a moment before Drakken responded.
"Testy, I see." Shego turned her head toward the nearest security camera. "Okay, okay. The Diablos are about to go online worldwide. After all this time working together I… well would like to have my closest… associate by my side."
Shego turned back to the masked teen before answering Drakken, her anger somewhat dulled. "That's sweet Doc. Give me a few minutes and I'll be up there."
"Alright Shego." The speaker audibly clicked off. Shego then grabbed Ron by the front of his shirt and then hoisted him up.
"You know after I rip that mask off and I finish beating you to a bloody pulp. I'm gonna find out who you are and then I'm gonna go find your family and your friends. And I'll make sure they know that the special treatment that they are getting from the new world order is all cause of you." Shego paused just a moment to let her threat sink into the man. She heard him begin to breath quicker and his body started to shake, from fear or anger she couldn't tell. Shego cocked her fist back and brought it down to deliver another strike, and was shocked when the masked man caught her fist. She tried to wrench her hand free but his grip was too strong. Shego then looked at the masked man's face.
And a thought popped into the villainess's head. 'Wait weren't his eyes brown before not blue?'
Kim slowly opened her eyes taking in what seemed to be the floor of the gymnasium.
'What happened? Why am I on the ground?' Kim pondered as she tried to move her arms to push herself up from the ground but found that something cold and metallic was keeping her hands restrained. Before Kim was able to wonder what was restraining her, she felt a jolt of electricity surge into her wrists and through her body.
Kim let out a scream as her body convulsed for the several second that the charge went off. As the charge died down so did her scream, but Kim's body continued to shake from the effects of the charge. As Kim gasped for breath, she heard a voice laughing just off to her side. Kim twisted her body around, carefully trying not to set off her restraints again, to try and get a glimpse at the man who found her situation so amusing. When her eyes settled on the form of her prom date Eric suddenly the memories of the night came flooding back to her.
"This can't be real." Kim managed to choke out. Eric simply let out another chuckle.
"Oh, sorry Kim sweetie. This is very, very real." Kim shook her head.
"When did Drakken switch you with Eric? Where are you holding him?" Eric cocked his head to the side and looked at her with contempt.
"There never was an Eric. It's been me the entire time. From when we met, to the first date, to the first kiss, to now. Drakken sent me in to be the perfect boy for you. So compassionate and understanding and caring. Made me want to vomit… if I could anyway." Eric sneered down at the prone girl. Kim simply stared up at the synthodrone in shock her mind still trying to process everything that had happened.
"Why… Why do all of this to me?" Eric shrugged his shoulders.
"Actually, it's ingeniously simple. I come in as the perfect boyfriend for you. Good looking. Charming. Smart but not smarter than you. Understanding. All this in one package you get so caught up in me and this relationship that you lose sight of the bigger picture. Sure, you still go out and fight the good fight, but there's a part of you that's always focused on me and this perfect relationship. And you slip just enough that the boss's larger plan goes right under the radar." Kim felt a white-hot rage building inside her with every word from the fake teen. Then it was extinguished with his next words.
"You know I really thought it was blown when Ronnie boy came running in tonight. Thought for sure you'd run off with him and save the world but... heh guess we did a better job with you than we thought." Kim felt as if the whole world fell away for a moment. She stopped hearing the taunts of the synthodrone. Her entire mind focused on her best friend; she remembered the look on his face as he tried pleading with her to believe what he was telling her.
'Ron… I'm so sorry.' Kim was ripped back to reality by the sounds of the gymnasium doors swinging open loudly and a yell echoing around the walls.
"POSSIBLE!" The voice of Bonnie Rockwaller was shrill and piercing as it resonated in Kim's ears. Kim turned her head to see the queen bee storming straight toward her. Eric had moved from his relaxed and taunting position; he was ready for anything but was curious as to what the girl was doing.
"Bonnie what are you…" Kim questioned but was cut off.
"Shut it, Kim! I've got somethings to say and considering that the world might be about to end or something this might be my last chance to say it. ANYONE HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT?!" Bonnie turned and raised her voice and eyebrow to the synthodrone. Eric seemed to contemplate for a moment before gesturing for her to continue with a bemused expression on his face. He, of course, knew of the girl's rivalry and was curious as to what the brunette had to say.
Or he would have been if he had been able to understand her. Bonnie began screaming a rapid-fire stream of insults and curses directed at the restrained girl. The words came so loudly neither Kim nor Eric could make out anything other than every fifth or sixth word. Eric simply leaned back against the refreshment table and took in the sight of Kim's verbal lashing with a barely repressed smirk. Kim on the other hand slipped back into focusing on her failing Ron, completely ignoring Bonnie's outburst.
Suddenly a loud metallic clang filled the room and Bonnie's rant stopped, followed by another clang. Kim and Bonnie looked over to see Monique and Tara both holding baseball bats that they had scrounged from the equipment room and Eric stumbling backwards holding his head.
"Move it fast!" Bonnie yelled to the other girls. It only took Kim a second to put together what happened. Bonnie's intelligible rant was a distraction to let Monique and Tara sneak up on Eric, not a bad plan she had to admit. Kim was about to yell at the two to get something sharp to puncture him with when she noticed that Bonnie had made her way over to Kim and was reaching for Kim's cuffs.
"Bonnie stop!" Kim's warning came to late as Bonnies jostling of the restraints caused another shock to be released, this one surged through both Bonnie and Kim. Both girls screamed, which drew the attention of both Monique and Tara. And this gave the now enraged synthodrone the opening that he needed.
"BITCH!" Eric roared as he ripped the metal bat out of Monique's hands, then turned and delivered a powerful kick to Tara's stomach. The blonde girl went flying backward before crashing into a folding table, dropping her bat and collapsing to the floor. Eric then swung his bat with full force at the fashionista's head, Monique was able to drop to the floor feeling the wind from the bat on her head. The girl quickly began crawling backward in a vain attempt to get away from the bat wielding synthodrone who was quickly bearing down on her.
"You should have stayed out of here and you might have lived long enough to see a new world." Eric raised the bat above his head and prepared to bring it down on the girl's head, but the bat was jerked back and out of his hands as he went to swing. With the bat no longer in his hand Eric's momentum caused him to crash into the ground in front of Monique who quickly got up and scrambled away.
The synthetic boy turned to see Bonnie Rockwaller standing over the still twitching Kim holding a rope that was wrapped around the bat she had wrenched away from him in her hands. Since Bonnie was not wearing the cuffs and had only been touching the outside of them when they went off, the shock she had received had been far less serious than what Kim had received. Bonnie was able to get up in a few seconds in time to see Eric preparing to cave Moniques head in with the bat. Bonnie on instinct had grabbed some rope laying on the ground, that Eric had used to tie up the unconscious teachers and students who had tried to stop him earlier, and used it as a whip to grab the bat and rip it from him mid-swing.
Eric began to push himself to his feet in order to rush the queen bee before her he was kicked in the shoulder by Tara. The girl had recovered and seeing that he was getting ready to go after her friend had preformed a flying kick. Tara had never performed the attack before but years of cheer practice and knowing Kim she was able to pull one off. The girl and drone both fell to the floor, Tara then tried to get up and move away from the synthdrone but found that she couldn't. She quickly noticed that her high heel was lodged in Eric's shoulder and try as Tara might she couldn't tug her foot out.
"That… hurt." Eric growled as he swiftly grabbed Tara's ankle, ripping her free from his shoulder then getting to his feet and dangling the poor blonde cheerleader upside down. Tara looked at the snarling teen's upside down face, twisted in rage, filling the girl with dread before she noticed something warm and wet spraying on her.
"No…" Eric whispered in horror as he noticed the hole in his shoulder that Tara's heel had left in him.
The heel had punctured his synthetic skin but the heel getting stuck had momentarily kept his goo inside of him. When Eric had ripped the girl off him, he had ripped open the hole and now the synthetic being's life-giving goo was spraying out all over the dangling teen and causing Eric to deflate like a balloon.
The drone let out a strangled gasp as he dropped Tara and collapsed into a puddle of synthetic flesh and goo. As Tara let out a yelp as she slipped and slid on the goo trying to get away from the dying synthodrone. Bonnie ran over grabbing her best friend's hand helping drag her out of the goo and back onto her feet. Monique quickly joined the two other girls and watched as the last of the goo spilled out of the synthetic flesh bag that had seconds before been Eric.
After everything became still for a moment the three girls let out a breath that none of them realized that they were holding. Tara collapsed into one of the folding chairs as Monique tried to stop shaking from the adrenaline pulsing through her. Bonnie just stood still trying to get her breathing under control.
"What happened?" Kim's dazed voice asked as she came back to consciousness. Monique and Tara both quickly rushed over to try and help their friend with out shocking her or themselves any further.
"Hang on girl we'll have you out of here in a few seconds… I hope." Monique told the prone redhead.
"What happened to Eric?" Kim asked straining her neck to look around before her eyes landed on the pile of goo.
"Don't worry Kim we dealt with him." Tara informed Kim. Kim was somewhat bewildered but relieved that her friends had been able to deal with the synthodrone. And then Kim heard Bonnie's voice.
"And believe me Possible. I will never let you forget tonight."
The muffled sounds of explosions and energy cannons firing made its way into the hangar bay Global Justice's main headquarters. The were all but drowned out by the sounds of bootsteps and equipment being wheeled around all over the hangar as agents and technicians did their best to find a way past the energy field that had trapped them in their own HQ. Standing in the middle of the hangar was the eyepatch sporting head of the organization Betty Director, directing her people's actions.
As she was shouting orders to two of the agency's newest recruits, she was approached by her top field agent, Will Du. The agent waited patiently for his superior to finish giving orders before speaking.
"Dr. Director." The brown-haired woman turned in frustration to her number one agent.
"Yes, agent Du?"
"The tech boys have finished their analysis of the field."
"And…" Dr. Director asked impatiently."
"They still haven't been able to find a way to bypass it. However, they do believe that based on the energy signature being emitted from the field that Drakken is the one behind this." The Doctor raised her brow.
"Explain."
"I won't pretend to know how they work this stuff out, but the energy matches those on file from other recorded incidents where Drakken used shielding technology. This however seems to be far more advanced than the past. Their guess is that Drakken has made or perhaps stolen some serious upgrades for his tech." The director brought her hands up and began massaging her temples.
"Do we have any idea where Team Possible is? If they're taking care of the situation or not?" Du shook his head.
"Unfortunately, no." Betty Director was silent for a moment before asking a final question.
"Did we have any agents keeping tabs on Drakken before this happened?"
"No. Drakken was never considered to be… well a serious threat. At least before tonight." Du could see his superior grind her teeth.
"Get back to trying to find us a way out of here Du. Dismissed." Du gave a quick salute before turning and heading back into the main complex. Dr. Director turned and began heading out of the hanger thinking to herself.
'If we get out of this there has to be some changes.'
Dr. Drakken stood in the diablo control room, a massive grin etched into his face. After all these years his goal was finally just moments from fruition. Drakken was in such a good mood he was even considering letting his henchmen keep their holiday bonus, even after failing to stop their intruder. Drakken looked at the map showing the global saturation of the diablos and the doctor's mind was filled with images of his creations rising up seizing the world for him.
After a moment Drakken was drawn out of his daydream as he turned to the doors of the control room. Drakken was half expecting Shego to walk through the doors at that moment but the doors remained shut. The doctor pulled back his glove and checked his watch, it had been almost ten minutes since Shego had said she would join him in the control room.
"Probably got carried away beating the stuffing out of our interloper." Drakken grumbled somewhat annoyed as he walked over to the bank of monitors. He eyed two empty glasses and a bottle of champaign that he had sitting on a small table, he had bought them to celebrate the first time he and Shego had enacted a plan to take over the world. He admittedly didn't expect it to take them nearly three years to actually be able to break them out though. Thank you Kim Possible.
"Shego. Not to ruin your fun but I would like to start activating the diablos soon." Drakken spoke into the intercom. Drakken looked at the monitor showing where he had last seen Shego standing over the intruder, neither were on the screen any longer. The Doctor began scanning the different screens looking for signs of the two. All he found were more signs of combat; broken walls, shattered furniture and glass scattered everywhere. Finally, Drakken's eyes stopped on a monitor and he felt his blood run cold.
On the camera was Shego lying on her back in one of the corridors, her uniform was ripped as if she had been in a furious fight. She was sprawled out, the floor underneath her body was cracked, her left arm and right leg were both twisted and bent in unnatural positions. There were streaks of blood around the corridor and Drakken could hardly make out Shego's face as it was half covered by her hair and blood. If it weren't for the shallow rhythmic rise and fall of her chest Drakken would have believed that she was dead.
Drakken stood paralyzed for a moment before the reality of the situation kicked in. The doctor rushed back to the main control panel and quickly began inputting command codes into the system. Drakken was just entering the final command prompts when he heard the door to the control room slowly swing open. Drakken whipped his head around to see who was there, trying his hardest to keep the sense of sheer dread building in his gut from showing on his face.
Standing in the entryway was the masked intruder. The masked man's pants and shirt were singed and ripped from Shego's attacks. The tears along the intruder's stomach were damp with blood that had been drawn from Shego's claws. Drakken noticed that the mouth area of the mask was also damp with blood that had been coming from the man's mouth. Drakken's attention though was quickly drawn to the pair of leather gloves on the interloper's hands. The gloves were frayed and torn and were smeared with blood. Drakken felt a tinge of fear and anger imagining that those were signs of whatever had been done to Shego.
The air was heavy for a moment as the two men stared each other down. Then Drakken pressed one final key on the control panel before turning and putting an evil grin on his face.
"You actually made it past Shego. Impressive. Unfortunately, you're too late." Drakken gestured to the control panel, speaking with the bravado he always had when he thought his plans were working. "I've just sent the command signal to all my diablo drones worldwide. As I speak all over the world harmless children's toys are growing to ten stories tall, they are targeting police and military installations before they even have a chance of mounting a resistance. What you've done tonight has accomplished nothing. In mere moments my drones will be here."
Drakken's grin seemed to grow even wider. "I win."
Drakken speech hung in the air for a moment.
"So… the diablos will be here in a few moments?" Drakken nodded.
"Are you hard of hearing I just said that." The masked man then took a step forward.
"So then, that means you have to spend all those minutes waiting here alone with me." Another step toward the doctor. "Without any of your help to protect you."
Drakken's grin slowly dropped from his face as the words sunk in. "What… um… what are you talking about?"
"I'm talking about there being a few moments before those robots get here." Another step. "Moments were I will use everything I have ever learned. Every technique to extract information, to inflict pain, to make you tell me how to shut them all down."
Drakken stepped back but was blocked by the console as the masked figure kept approaching. "You… you can't be serious. I… I…"
The figure stopped moving forward a dozen or so feet from the mad doctor before interrupting his stammering protest. "You're using a robot army to attack innocent people and trying to place yourself as the supreme ruler of the world. You really think that I won't do what needs to be done in order to keep that from happening?"
Drakken did his best to keep up a brave front even as the words twisted in his gut. "Or maybe you'll be able to take the pain long enough for your robots to make it here. Maybe you're a harder man than I think you are… but to be honest I doubt it."
For a brief moment the eyes of the two were locked in a stare down just a few feet from each other. As Drakken's mind was racing with the possibilities of what might happen, Ron's mind was racing with another thought.
'PLEASE WORK! PLEASE WORK! PLEASE WORK!' Ron was going all in on his bluff like a veteran poker player. Ron was smart enough to know that getting into Drakken's system and shutting everything down was not something that he would be able to do. He was also completely wiped from his fights with the goons, synthodrones and especially Shego. If the Diablos managed to make it to the building, then Ron knew it was over, he honestly wasn't even sure that he would be able to take Drakken one on one with how he was feeling now.
After a few more seconds of tense silence Ron took two more slow steps toward the doctor and that was enough to make the older man cave in.
"Alright, alright." Drakken squeaked before turning and tapping a few keys on the control panel. Suddenly the large monitor in the room displayed a message in bright red letter.
DIABLOS DEACTIVATED
Bonnie held the doors to the gym open as Monique and Tara helped Kim outside. The teen hero was still weak from the electric shocks that she had received earlier in the night. After Eric had been deflated it took a few moments for the girls to rifle through his goo covered clothing to find the key to the cuffs and free the girl.
"Kim, you still with us." Monique asked.
"I'm so sorry Ron." Kim whispered more to herself than any of the girls. Tara gave Kim a gentle shake to get her attention.
"Kim, we need to focus here. We took care of Eric but we still have to deal with this force field thing." The red head turned her head up and looked at the energy field for a few moments. The girls waited quietly for a moment before Bonnie broke the silence.
"Come on Possible. This is supposed to be your area of expertise right." Kim winced and turned to give Bonnie a glare. Kim shook her head to try and clear the cob webs. She would have to worry about making things right with Ron after getting out of this.
Kim let go of Tara and Monique and shakily stood on her own two feet. "Okay ladies, I'm going to need your help but I'm sure that we'll be able to get out of here soo…"
Kim was cut off as the field began to shimmer and flutter on and off before completely disappearing. A mechanical whirling sound filled the air around the school as the massive robots began to shake before quickly shrinking down to the small toys that they originally were. After a few seconds of stunned silence students all over the campus, who had been terrified of being trapped by the robots, began cheering.
"Uh, so what just happened? Cause that sure wasn't you, Kim?" Bonnie asked curiously, though she, Tara and Monique were as relieved as everyone else that the shield had dropped. Kim was quiet for a moment as a flurry of emotions and thoughts traveled through her head and heart.
"I have no idea."
"Doctor Director, the field is down." The voice of a G.J. agent cut through Betty Director's thoughts as she was giving orders to a group of technicians. She turned and quickly sprinted out of the hangar along with the technicians that she had just been consulting. As Betty made it outside, she indeed saw that the sky was clear of the field.
Betty took a moment to celebrate internally, as the other G.J. agents cheered at their freedom. After that brief moment of relief Doctor Director switched back into professional mode. She turned toward the nearest technician.
"What happened? Was that us that shut it down?" The tech's manner immediately turned from cheering to professional at the sound of his superior's voice.
"No ma'am. All attempts we had made had no effect. The shield just seems to have shut off on its own."
"What happened to the robots that were producing it." Doctor Director turned looking for any signs of fallen giant machines. She then noticed Will Du making his way through the crowd holding an object she couldn't make out in his hands.
"That would be these, ma'am. After the field shut down the robots shrunk down to these." Du handed a small figure to her. Taking it in her hands and turning it over it looked like a nothing more than a simple toy.
"It turned into this after shutting off." Du nodded. Betty scrunched her brow in concentration. "Why does this look so familiar."
"It's one of the Bueno Nacho Diablo toys." Doctor Director and Will turned the agent who spoke up.
The agent swallowed nervously. "I'm sorry to interrupt ma'am but those are the Diablo figure from Bueno Nacho. My son loves those things."
"Doctor Director!" A voice called over Betty's radio. Doctor Director pulled the radio and responded.
"Go ahead."
"We're getting multiple reports worldwide of children's toys turning into giant robots and causing chaos. Fortunately, the robots were only active for a few moments before they shut down and all reverted back into toys. But it seems that they were able to cause significant damages in the short time they were active." Doctor Director turned and looked back at the agent who had interrupted her.
"You said Bueno Nacho?" The agent nodded. Betty turned back to her radio.
"Scramble every team we have send as many as we can for relief aid. But send three units to the headquarter of Bueno Nacho." Will Du spoke up.
"With everyone scrambling because of that shield that could take some time ma'am." Doctor Director turned and began heading back into the base.
"Just do it as quickly as we can. I want to know what the hell is going on."
Seeing the words appear caused the panicked doctor to switch back to seething anger.
"I was so close this time." Drakken growled out between clenched teeth as he began pulling at his hair.
"Well maybe things will look better when you wake up." Drakken whipped his head around at the statement.
"What's that supposed to mea…" Drakken was cut off as Ron delivered a powerful haymaker to the blue scientist's face. Drakkens head snapped back and he was unconscious before he hit the floor. Ron then stumbled forward and landed on top of the villain nearly passing out himself.
Ron simply laid there for a moment trying to regain his strength while his brain processed what had just happen before he shakily pushed himself up and off of Drakken. He took a few steps back and leaned against one of the control banks trying to catch his breath. Ron's eyes went from the now unconscious madman to the monitor still displaying the message 'Diablos Deactivated.' After a moment of looking back and forth between the two he leaned his head back and began to laugh.
"I actually did it! HAHAHA." Ron could hardly believe it. He took a brief moment to reflect on everything that had happened since he walked through the doors of Bueno Nacho Headquarters.
He had fought a dozen of Draken's henchmen and he had actually managed to defeat them.
He took out a massive sumo sized ninja using some creative thinking.
He also took out a half dozen synthodrones by himself.
He was even able to take out Shego by himse…
"Shego?" The words escaped his lips in a whisper as his mind drifted back to the emerald villainess. Ron remembered fighting for his life against her. He remembered tricking her with a fire extinguisher and getting in some good hits and even thinking he had her for a moment. He remembered her then proceeding to kick his ass up and down the corridor that they were in. The last thing he could remember was being on his back with the taste of copper filling his mouth and listening to Shego gloating about going after his family.
Then Ron remembered feeling angry.
Next thing he knew he was standing over the body of an unconscious Shego, who was lying on the ground broken and bleeding. Ron had been shocked and horrified at what had happened to her. However, Ron quickly thought of the Diablos, how little time there could be to stop them and then turned and made his way here to the control room.
But now that the whole thing was over Ron's mind wandered back to the sight of Shego. He kept racking his brain for any idea he could come up with for what could have happened to her after he blacked out. And his mind could only come up with a single thought. 'I… couldn't have done that to her… Could I?"
Ron then heard a scratching sound coming from the corner of the room. Ron instantly went on guard worried that Drakken had yet another defense that he didn't know about. The teen cautiously walked over to the bank of monitors where he had heard the sound, before cautiously peeking around behind them.
"Rufus!" Ron exclaimed as he saw the naked mole rat laying against one of the modems trying to catch his little breath. The mole rat was twitching from what he had experienced trying to get to the room. Ron quickly reached down and scooped his friend up into his hands. "What happened?"
"Zap, hnk, shock." Rufus weakly chirped out to Ron. Ron worriedly took off one of his gloves and felt the mole rat.
"Buddy you're burning up. We need to get you to a doctor." Ron quickly slipped his glove back on and placed the mole rat in one pockets of his cargo pants. Ron then turned and began to quickly but carefully make is way out of the room trying not to jostle the little guy. As Ron was moving, he tripped a small trash can in the room and stumbled forward catching himself on a terminal pressing several buttons as he did. Suddenly Ron heard a computerized voice.
"System purge. All files and systems will be erased and all Hephestus technology will self-destruct." Ron paused for a moment.
"Wow, unbelievable! Even when he has the perfect plan, he's still Drakken." Ron then quickly turned and headed out of the control room.
Finally managed to finish Issue (chapter) 3 of The Unstoppable Batman. Wow, this one kept getting pushed back. To anyone and everyone who were excited to read this I apologize for it taking so long.
Also, for anyone curious Ron will be creating the Batman persona in issue 6. Assuming that I don't end up splitting more chapters into two for the sake of length again, as originally 2 and 3 were supposed to be one.
Now that the events of Diablo Night are over what will happen next? What will happen when Kim and Ron meet up again? What event will next push Ron down the path that leads to a certain cape and cowl? Tune in next post to find out!
Thanks everyone for reading and reviewing I greatly appreciate it and I hope you all are enjoying the story so far.
