Very sorry I didn't upload this yesterday; I was too busy to do so. But good news for you guys, the other long fic I was working on along side this one is finally finished, meaning this one will be getting my full attention for a bit. As such, I will be updating it on Tuesdays and Thursdays as well as Saturdays, to the best of my ability. I apologise in advance for any time I may miss a day or two. Anyway, onto the gym battle, and the very first brand new mega evolution that I designed myself. I hope you like it because I worked really hard on it.
CHAPTER 37:
A Treemendous Battle!
Ramos leads the pair up the tree to the battlefield. Bonnieskips happily along the path, excited to finally have her 4th gym battle. Max is staring in wonder around him, scribbling away in his notebook about any pokémon he sees. Eventually, he starts to lag behind, so Bonnie runs back, grabs his hand and pulls him along, only to stop a few seconds later because how warm it seems to have become when she did this. Ramos sees this and chuckles to himself, before continuing on his way up the tree to the battlefield.
They arrive at the battlefield, which sits near the top of the tree. Ramos directs Max to where he supposed to spectate, then he and Bonnie head onto the battlefield. Bonnie puts her hand on the pokéball that her 1st choice lives in, ready to send her out the moment the ref calls for the battle to begin. Max meanwhile pulls his notebook out, ready to write down anything new that comes out during this battle. Once everyone is in position, the ref steps forward. "This will be a three-on-three single battle between Gym Leader Ramos and Trainer Bonnie Citron," he announced. "The battle will continue until one side has no more pokémon to battle. Only the challenger is allowed substitutes! Are both trainers ready?" Both trainers raise their pokéballs up. "Then battle begin!" the ref calls.
Bonnie and Ramos send their first choices in. Ramos sends out a Jumpluff and Bonnie sends out Fennekin. Jumpluff starts off with Acrobatics. Fennekin tries to dodge, but she's just clipped by the attack. She turns around and fires a Fire Spin in retaliation, which Jumpluff gets caught in. As the Jumpluff is being damaged by the Fire Spin, Fennekin runs in and uses Scratch, doing even more damage. But as she lands back down, she suddenly flinches, and Bonnie realises that Jumpluff had used Poison Powder while Fennekin scratched it, so that Bonnie had no chance of countering it. To make matters worse, Jumpluff is still able to battle, just very fatigued. With no choice, Bonnie continues the battle. She tries to get Fennekin to use Ember to finish it off, but Jumpluff dodges it then retaliates with Bullet Seed. This attack didn't do much, but the combination of it and the poisoning was proving to be difficult. Bonnie orders another Fire Spin, but Jumpluff uses Bounce and manages to avoid that to. Then it slams back down on Fennekin, severely weakening her. Before Bonnie can order another attack, Jumpluff uses Giga Drain, healing itself a bit and knocking Fennekin out.
"Fennekin is unable to battle!" the ref calls. Bonnie sighs, then returns Fennekin and thanks her, before sending out her second choice. Talonflame comes out of the pokéball with a mighty battle cry, ready to earn Bonnie her 4th badge. "Battle resume!" calls the ref. Jumpluff starts off with Leech Seed to give itself a better chance. Talonflame then charges in with Flame Charge, striking Jumpluff dead on. But to everyone's surprise, Jumpluff is able to get back up. Ramos grins at Max and Bonnie's reactions. "Did you really think I wouldn't have worked on my pokémon's weaknesses?" he asks. "All of my pokémon are good at tanking fire type attacks." With that, Jumpluff uses another Bounce and springs into the air. But this time, this doesn't go well for it, because Talonflame takes off after it, flying up after it. She strikes Jumpluff with another Flame Charge, before slamming it back to the ground with Brave Bird. But right before it hit the ground, Jumpluff uses one final Poison Powder, poisoning Talonflame in the process. Then, both pokémon slam into the ground, and Talonflame comes back up, poisoned, but still raring to go. Jumpluff however, remains lying on the ground.
"Jumpluff is unable to battle!" the ref announces. Ramos returns Jumpluff and thanks it, before sending out his second pokémon, a Weepinbell. Bonnie remembers how much trouble this guy gave Ash 4 years ago and begins trying to think of a plan to counter it. Seeing that Talonflame is already poisoned, Weepinbell starts the battle off with slam, throwing Talonflame around a bit. But before it could do that too much, Talonflame lit her body on fire with Flame Charge, burning Weepinbell's vines and causing it to retract them. Then, Talonflame swoops in and strikes Weepinbell dead on, just like with Jumpluff. But unfortunately, the Weepinbell survived and uses wrap to bind Talonflame in place, before slamming her around again. Once it stops doing that, Talonflame quickly shoots it with an Ember, then flies forward with Brave Bird. Weepinbell cries out in pain from the effective attack, then tries one last desperate attack. It sends out Razor Leaf, and Talonflame flies through it with one last Flame Charge. The attack collides once more and Weepinbell faints. Talonflame lets out a mighty cry, then faints as well.
"Both pokémon are unable to battle!" the ref announces. "Meaning both trainers are down to their last pokémon!" Ramos smiles at this, then sends out Gogoat. Bonnie takes a calming breath, then sends out Shinx. She's nervous about this idea but wants to give him a proper chance at a gym battle. Ramos chuckles to himself at this. "Well, well now, that's an interesting choice," he says. "And you've done well in this, battle. But now, I'm afraid we must put an end to it here." Then, he raises his right fist, and Max and Bonnie gasp. "There's no way…" says Max wistfully. On Ramos's wrist is a keystone, and looking at Gogoat, Max and Bonnie can see a megastone around its neck. "Gogoat, MEGA EVOLVE!" Ramos shouts, tapping the keystone as he does. White tendrils shoot out of the stone and to Gogoat's megastone. Gogoat glows brightly and its form begins to change. Its horns grow longer, then curl in on themselves, like a ram's. Its mouth elongates, and its teeth sharpen. Its legs grow stronger and more muscular. The bushes on its body grow even more, covering most of its back and underbelly, with a few thistles sprouting out of the top. Completing this new look are its eyes, which glow a striking red. Now Bonnie was very nervous. But she steeled herself, determined to win this no matter what.
Shinx ran forward to strike the Mega Gogoat with Spark, but Mega Gogoat dodges it, then strikes Shinx with Bulldoze. Shinx is thrown into the air and cries out in pain. Then Gogoat charges at him with Take Down. As a last-ditch effort, Shinx bites down on one of Gogoat's horns with Thunder Fang, causing it to cry out in pain. As Gogoat swings its head around trying to throw Shinx off, Shinx slams his back left paw into Gogoat's face, striking with Spark as he does. Gogoat cries out louder and throws Shinx off. Shinx slams and rolls across the ground, before getting to his feet. He looks towards his trainer, the first person in his life who cared for him rather than tried to capture him and sees a spark of hope in her eyes. He glares at Gogoat again, determined to not let his trainer down. SO, he charges at Gogoat once again, and as he does his own body glows white. By the time the pokémon crashes into Gogoat with Discharge, he's no longer a shiny Shinx. Now, he's a bigger, shiny Luxio. Bonnie cheers with excitement at the sight of her new pokémon, and she can see Max scribbling away on his notebook, eager to take as many notes as possible on his friend's new Luxio. Gogoat is still reeling from the Discharge, so Luxio runs forth again with another Thunder Fang. Then, with his new strength, he spins around with Gogoat's leg in his mouth, before hurling him against the wall. Gogoat crashes into it, then its Mega energy leaves it, and it slumps to the ground.
"Gogoat is unable to battle!" the ref declares. "Making Challenger Bonnie the winner of this battle!" Bonnie screams with excitement as Luxio limps over to her and jumps up to receive loads of affection from the girl. Max leaps over the railings to join the two as Ramos returns Gogoat and thanks it, then approaches Bonnie. "Well done girlie," he says. "Ever since I managed to get Gogoat to evolve, I haven't had many people win against me. In fact, you are only the 4th person to win against me this year." Bonnie's jaw drops, and Max pats her on the back. Then, Ramos rummages through his pockets and pulls out a badge. "Here you are," he says, handing it over. "The Plant Badge, as proof that you defeated me." Bonnie accepts it and leaps with joy. She thanks Ramos for the battle, then she and Max headed back down the road.
"So, what do you want to do while we wait for the Coumarine festival?" Max asks, pulling out his phone to check for things to do in Coumarine. Bonnie thinks about this, then grins. "Why don't we go and watch Zoey and Chloe in the performances tomorrow?" Max nods. "That sounds fun," he says. "It'll be a good way to show are support for them." Bonnie nods. Then, the two of them head over to the hotel that everyone else is staying and book themselves a room, making sure it's one with two separate beds.
That one was a fun one to write. I'm definitely getting better at writing fights. However, I've never written a performance before, and don't even remember what they're properly like. And I need to write two of them in the next chapter. So, wish me luck with them, because they're going to be utter shite! As for when they come out, it'll either be Tuesday or Thursday, because my brother suggested I save the Pledging Tree chapter for Christmas Day, since they're rather similar. So, for the 1st time in nearly half a year, there will not be a chapter update on Saturday. See you next chapter.
