Chapter 4

Colonel Jack O'Neill arrived early the next morning to pick up his teenage clone from his friends' house. He found Sam and Janet's vehicles parked in the driveway. He expected Janet to come and get Cassie but was a bit confused as to why Sam's car was at the home. He walked up to the door and rang the bell.

Jackie opened the door sporting jeans and a gray sweat shirt with sheriff printed across. She gave a smile, "Colonel!"

He squinted, "You are Danny's mom?"

"Ah-ha," she nodded. "Come on in. Jon has been waiting for you."

Jack walked into the home and soon found Jon sitting at the kitchen table with Sam and Janet as they were looking at the information Jackie collected on the cult. He found Cassie and Danny sitting at a breakfast bar eating nearby. He greeted the sight, "Majors, Cassie, Danny…" his eyes settled on his young clone as he called him a name, "mini me."

Jackie laughed, "You liked the movie too." She got the reference. She had to admit, "Our kids do tend to be mini versions of ourselves at times."

Jon rolled his head back for he knew Jack was making fun of him being a clone.

Sam called him closer, "Sir…take a look at this."

Jack came to her side and looked over her shoulder. He found a picture of Ba'al standing before the Capital. His eyes grew wide. "What the?" he gasped.

Sam explained, "This was taken six months ago. Jackie was working the case for the F.B.I.. Ba'al has a cult."

"Are you serious?" he gasped.

Janet agreed, "I'm afraid so. Jackie was investigating the cult when she forced out of the F.B.I.. Ba'al has infiltrated the F.B.I.." she reported.

Jackie asked, "Just where did this cult leader come from? Because I can't seem to find anything on him prior to a year ago. It's like he just showed up out of nowhere." She reached for her coffee cup on the counter and took a sip wondering what she had stumbled across.

Sam stated "Unfortunately, that information is classified and we can't tell you that without you signing a nondisclosure agreement."

Janet suggested, "We have her come in tomorrow, sign the agreement and give the debriefing. Hammond needs to see this."

"You mean you want me to come into the mountain base?" she asked.

"We need you to debrief General Hammond on Ba'al and his cult." Sam agreed.

Jon stated, "We can't trust the F.B.I. if they have been infiltrated and he's been a here a year at least and is dug in like a tick. We are going to need outside help taking down Ba'al and his cult."

Janet agreed, "We may have to infiltrate the cult ourselves."

Sam added, "Gotta get Daniel in one this too."

Cassie asked, "Where is Daniel?"

"Working." Sam informed.

She complained, "He needs to take a break. He's always working. I never see him anymore."

Janet soothed, "You will see him again. He just has a lot of work to do."

Jon recalled, "Last time you saw Daniel he took you to the museum and he was in the back store room working all day while you looks at exhibits."

She complained, "It sucked!"

Jack cheered, "When I take ya out we have a good time, kid."

She blinked, "You took me to a bar and grill and we watched football."

He insisted, "You ate!"

She rolled her eyes.

Sam pondered, "With this level of infiltration we need to be select on who we bring in to help with the cult. We can't just give a briefing to the police and expect them to not be infiltrated. Maybe it's time to bring in Mark? He's Jackie's partner and this was her case originally."

Jack had to agree, "Might need him and Jacob. They can help."

"Do you all realize how powerful this cult is?" Jackie warned. "They took a plane down to get one target. They are in the banking section, in the F.B.I., the Capitol. That means they are also in the military. This cult is far and wide. They go all the way to the top. How are we going to take Ba'al and his cult down? I had to leave my job and move way out here for safety."

Sam assured, "We can do it but we can't tell you how yet."

She asked, "What are you guys hiding in that mountain? A portal to another dimension or something?"

"You and Mark just come in tomorrow." Sam insisted.

Jack stated, "Not first thing! You won't get anywhere without Hammond's permission."

"Me and Mark need to go in for our morning debriefing first." she sounded. "Then we grab breakfast on patrol."

Janet assured, "We will need time to make a formal request for you and Mark to come in. We will contract the police department. It will be closer to lunch time."

"Okay," she agreed. "We will wait for the order."

"Good." Jack agreed. "When you come in you think you can grab some donuts."

"Sir?" asked Sam unbelieving.

He explained, "Cops have to know who has the best donuts."

Next Morning

Daniel sat at his table working on more research and translations. He had worked all weekend long and actually preferred to work when Jack was not in the base for the found Jack tended to draw his attention away. Jack came to his office bright and early and on schedule. As he walked in, Daniel let out a long sigh.

"Daniel!" Jack called upon entering.

His shoulder's sank and he looked up. "Jack!" he greeted.

He came to the lab table with an expression of a man who wanted to say something but wasn't sure what to say. "How was your weekend?" he started.

"Quiet." he smiled.

Next into the lab was Janet Frasier followed by Sam. The three usually did not all turn up at once in such a manner which Daniel found unusual.

Sam cheered, "Morning Daniel."

Janet also greeted, "Morning Daniel." The doctor looked as if she was about to burst with excitement as the question on everyone's mind was of Jackie and Danny and if Daniel was the boy's father.

"Morning Sam! Janet!" he greeted suspicious. They seemed to be in some kind of cahoots for the timing was perfect.

The three traded glances unsure where to even start. Sam figured she would begin, "General Hammond is asking us to sit in on a briefing with two local law enforcement officers this afternoon."

"That's fine." he nodded agreeing. He noticed all seemed to be trading glances unsure who should speak next.

Sam continued, "A former F.B.I. agent, who now works with my brother brought some information to us. We think Ba'al is on Earth and has started a cult."

He winced, "That's not good."

"My brother and his new partner will be assisting us." she informed.

"Okay," he agreed. He puckered in thought for the three seemed to be holding back to his estimation.

Sam looked to Jack and Janet for help on how to approach the possibility that Daniel could be a father and not know it. It was a delicate situation and one none really knew how to approach.

Janet started, "Cassie and Jon met a new friend at school. His name is Danny. He's so sweet. His mom is Mark's new partner."

He sat perplexed, "Okay."

Sam and Janet traded glances wondering how to proceed.

Sam added, "Janet and I were at house and we shared a bottle of wine and old stories about summer camp. You went to summer camp too, right?"

He nodded, "My grandfather stuck me in summer camp to get rid of me during the summer." His mind played the memories of his time in the camps as a young teen and a smile crept across his face. "I actually enjoyed it. Matter of fact, when I turned seventeen, I started working as a councilor in camp and worked every summer until I was twenty one. Then I had to travel to work on my doctorate more and I could not do it." He recalled fondly, "Some of the best times of my life was in summer camp." He then figured, "Is Cassie thinking of going to camp? If she is, I suggest you send her. She will have a blast. They have arts and crafts, swimming, hiking all sorts of stuff to do."

Jack pressed, "Did you meet anyone interesting at camp, Daniel?"

"Everyone at camp was interesting, Jack." he insisted. His mind then went back to that final year as a councilor. He seemed distant for a moment.

"Meet any girls?" Jack pressed.

"There was this one." he nodded but seemed reluctant to go into details.

Jack waved his arms, "And?"

He let out a sigh, "It was my final year. I'm sure Cassie will not come across anything like what I came across. Tell her camp will be fine and no issues."

"Issues?" Sam asked.

Daniel figured they were concerned with Cassie going to summer camp and thus he wanted to sooth any fears. He explained, "I was the head councilor in the camp that last year. The year before, I had to fire one of the councilors who was getting rather fresh with the girls. He was seventeen but the girls he was after were fifteen. You can't allow that. So, he got upset and all winter long he sent these Unabomber like, cut and paste letters to the camp owners. He said stuff like he was going to kill a bunch of kids, blow the camp up, do a mass shooting. Stuff like that. The Post Office came up empty handed. The local sheriff wanted to place armed deputies in the camp. The owners didn't want to scare the kids or the parents. So, they hatched up this idea to send in a deputy undercover into the camp to watch the place. They sent in this very young looking deputy. She honestly could pass as a twelve years old. I couldn't figure it out at first. She was there before the campers and was helping staff get the camp ready but she was not on the payroll. The campers came and she kind of just blended in with them but she wasn't listed as a camper either. I searched for her records, she had no file and I was told by the owner himself that she was a special guest and I needed to accommodate her. So, I did. Later, I found out about the letters and why she was there." He looked at the faces of his friends as he figured they would be bored with the story and leave. Instead, they traded glances again as if whispering to one another.

Jack pressed, "Tell us more about the cop."

He rebutted, "Why?"

"Sounds like there might be more to the story, Daniel." he insisted.

"If you must know, she was my first real relationship." he explained. He then grew a bit sad and stated, "I got work to do."

Janet asked, "Did you guys break up?"

He found it odd they were pressing him so hard about the relationship. He replied, "No…we kind of just went our separate ways in the end. It was a whirlwind ride of a summer. That summer was hotter than normal. We had this heat wave, an undercover cop and a stack of bizarre letters threatening to blow the place up."

Jack stated, "Go on!"

He knew Jack would bug him endlessly until he told the story. He placed his pen down and thought about what to say. "It was sixteen years ago. Her name was Jackie and it was her first real assignment. She carried a gun on her the whole time I didn't know until she had to draw it that day they busted him. I was helping her on the case. It was six weeks and during that time we grew close." He paused for a moment as a slight smile crept across his face, "I caught her skinny dipping in the lake. I just stood there like an idiot in the moonlight gapping like a fish out of water. She gets out, wraps a towel around her, plants a big kiss on me and gets her things and walks away like a goddess in the moonlight. I was too dumbstruck to move. I knew that night that I was way over my head." He paused for a second, "Then it got physical…" He debated what else he should say. "We had to go to Albany to see the Post Master for the Inspection Service. It was an all day thing. We got this little motel outside of Albany. That was the only night we got to stay together until morning. The rest of the time it was secret meet ups in the camp. But that night…it was just us in that cruddy motel room and it was heaven. It was one of those nights you don't want to end and you are just dreading the morning. I didn't sleep at all that night. I held her in my arms and just watched her sleep. I didn't want to let her go. The next day, I had a whole twenty five dollars in my pocket and I went to this little cheap shop and I got her this stupid, cheap ring. I was going to ask her to marry me. I had that ring my pocket all the way up to the bust and then the media swarmed us. The cops rolled in and made this wall and they weren't letting me anywhere close to her. The Sherriff got his man before his reelection. So, I packed up my stuff, turned in my key and left. I never saw her again. I never even got her phone number. I never got to say goodbye."

Thee trio traded glances. Jack asked, "You got a picture of her by any chance?"

"I have one picture." he replied. He got up from his seat and went to his cluttered desk. He retrieved a small wooden box and brought it back to the table. He opened the box to reveal a single photograph taken of himself and Jackie standing close together at the camp dressed in summer clothes. He handed it to Jack.

Jack looked at the photo and handed it to Sam who then looked on with Janet. He noticed the ring in the bottom of the box. He picked it up. "This is the ring. You kept it?"

"I just couldn't get rid of it." he shrugged. "I know it's kind of dumb but, I never got to say goodbye so…it's just something to remember that summer by."

Sam stated, "Daniel…This is Mark's new partner and the former F.B.I. agent who brought us the information on Ba'al. She's coming here today to see General Hammond."

He paused, "Wait! What?"

She explained, "She just moved here a week ago. She's Mark's partner. Cassie is friends with her son and I just spent the weekend drinking wine with her at her house. She was telling us the story of her first undercover assignment in a summer camp and about the letters. She wouldn't name you but she did describe you pretty well."

Janet added, "You should hear her version of the skinny dipping. She was embarrassed when you caught her so she kissed you to make an escape."

He sat beside himself, "What?"

Sam explained, "She is Mark's partner and the cop who knew the symbol on Teal'c's head. She knew it was Apophis."

"She's the little shit who was at the fender bender I was in the other day." Jack told him. "She still looks like a kid. Especially, in uniform."

"Jackie Garrett?" he asked to clarify.

"That's her." Jack confirmed.

"She coming here…today?" he gasped wide-eyed.

He nodded, "She is!"

He felt his head rather shocked, "I never thought I would see her again." He then lifted an arm and smelled himself, "I should shower." He figured as he had not showered all weekend.

Jack agreed, "You might want to get cleaned up. You look like you have been here all weekend."

"I have been here all weekend!" he confirmed and stood up. He paced about nervous, "I got get to the showers." He headed out the door feeling a bit overwhelmed.

The three stood and traded glances. Jack asked, "How do we find out if it's his kid?"

Janet suggested, "I can run a paternity test."

Sam figured, "Jackie would tell Daniel if Danny was his, right?" She looked to her friends unsure.

Jack concluded, "That kid has to be his. He looks just like him."
