Procrastination is Her Destination

Annalise

It had been a whole ass week since Spock had come to see her in the med bay and she still hadn't gone to see Spock OR even looked at the information on the PADD that Jim gave her.

A good chunk of it had to do with the fact that she was trying to avoid another obscenely awkward encounter with Spock but she also had an actual legitimate reason as to why she hadn't gotten to it yet.

This the was the first time being in space, for a lot of the new Ensigns and some of them weren't handling it all that well.

Of course the Enterprise did an excellent job of negating most of the effects on the human body that being in space had BUT the human body was, well, still human and it still effected some people worse than others.

The effects were very similar to sea sickness. There was always a lot of nausea and vomiting involved and general discomfort as well. There really wasn't a name for it but she and Bones called it 'space sickness'.

A lot of the Ensigns would ask her why the hell it wasn't happening to her considering it was her first time in space as well and she really didn't have an answer for that. She never really had any issues with the space simulators at school either. She just chalked it up to having a really good constitution.

Bones had finally discharged the last one so she was finally able to actually take a look at the PADD Jim gave her. It had been sitting on Bones' desk collecting cob webs all week long.

Entering Bones' office, she plopped down onto his chair and picked up the PADD. Turning it on, she started going though the information on it. Jim was right when he told her that there wasn't much to go on.

It was like somebody started mapping stars out and then just gave up. They also managed to locate one planet but either it uninhabitable or maybe it was at one time but whatever it called it home was long gone or had gone extinct.

She supposed she would have to do more research with Spock to find out more about it.

Seeing that Jim sent her a copy of what the distress signal sounded like, her curiosity got the best of her and she decided to send a copy to Bones' computer so she could give it a listen.

Every species who called the solar system home, had their own unique distress signal so there was a good chance that listening to the distress signal might give her a clue about who it was trying to reach them.

She started playing the distress signal and her brows almost disappeared right into her hairline.

It was the oddest distress signal she had ever heard in her whole life. Most distress signals sounded mechanical but this one sounded almost melodic and a bit melancholy.

She listened for a bit longer and then decided that she had enough.

'Alright, that's enough of that.' She thought, completely weirded out.

Turning it off, she tried to get her thoughts together and understand what it was that she just heard. That sound, whatever it was, sounded like it was calling out to somebody or looking for somebody or something. Whatever it was, it was unnerving as hell.

Suddenly, her thoughts were interrupted by Christine Chapel's very annoying voice. She was obviously talking to Nyota about something and it had nothing to do with anything medical.

They gossiped a lot and most of the time it was about her. Either it was because of something she was wearing, how she looked or because she had zero interest in fucking everything with a dick.

Apparently, all of this made them think that she was some kind of sub human and it was infuriating. She lost count of how many times she caught them talking about how she must be fucked up because she's never had a boyfriend before, she loved vintage things and she loved wearing bright colors.

Half the time, they didn't even bother try make an effort to hide that they were talking about her.

She could hear Christine talking about how she sucked at her job and how she had no idea how Bones could show her such favoritism.

"Seriously, Nyota. I don't know what he sees in her. I mean look at her. She has so many ear piercings, she wears too many colors at once and did you see that weird thing around her wrist? What even IS that? Plus, she's really not even THAT good at being a medical officer!" She could hear Christine ranting from the other room.

She rolled her eyes. She wasn't a violent person by nature but right now all she wanted to do was slam Christine's face into a desk right now.

'Yeah okay because 5 piercings in each ear makes me such a rebel at least I'm not a fucking prude with my head shoved up my ass!' She thought, aggravated.

For 10 whole minutes, she listened to Christine bash her until they finally left the room.

'Thank the fucking lord almighty. I don't know how much more I could have taken of that bullshit.' She thought, relieved.

Now that Christine and Nyota were gone, she decided that she had better go see Spock before he decided to come and find her again. She was sure that he was probably not happy with her for taking so long.

Grabbing her PADD off of Bones' desk, she exited his office and then left the med bay.

She took her sweet time walking to his lab/work space/office in order to try and prolong the inevitable.

Unfortunately, she reached his work space all too soon for her liking.

'Here we go again. Here's to more awkward times with Mr. Logical.' She thought, blowing some of her wild hair out of her face.

Letting out a long sigh, she reached up and hit a button next on the control pad next to the door. The door slid open with a hiss.

She saw that Spock was standing at his desk, slightly bent, looking over a bunch of charts and PADD's.

The sound of the door opening caused him to look up. Seeing that it was her standing at his door, he looked at her with his brow quirked.

She shifted uncomfortably, those dark eyes of his made her feel so vulnerable like he could see right through her.

"Annalise, how nice of you to finally decide to join me." He quipped.

She frowned at his remark. She went from uncomfortable to angry in 0.5 seconds. She was so frustrated already that it sent her over the edge.

Unfortunately, when she was this angry and frustrated her mouth tended to operate faster than her brain could keep up.

"Okay, would you like to switch places with me and deal with people projectile vomiting all over the place for another week straight? Be my guest!" She snarked back.

Realizing what she just did, her eyes widened in horror and she slapped her hand over mouth. Holy, Jesus Christ on a cabbage! She couldn't believe that she just did that!

Jim told her frequently that her mouth would get her in deep shit one day and he was absolutely right.

"Mr. Spock, I am so sorry. I didn't mean that, I am having a terrible day." She apologized.

For a moment, Spock regarded her with an expression that she couldn't decipher and then he nodded.

"Apology accepted. Come here, I wish to show you what I have found thus far." He said, gesturing for her to come closer.

She complied and went to stand next to him. He started getting her up to speed on what he discovered so far. She wanted to be shocked at how much he already had done but he was Spock and a Vulcan after all.

After he caught her up to speed, she began to help him map out stars. A map of where they were going would be extremely helpful. They could find put more information much more easily with one.

Before she knew it, two whole hours had passed and she began to think working with Spock might not be so bad after all. She was enjoying herself so much she began humming a random song that she had stuck in her head and started tapping her small foot on the floor.

She loved mapping stars and planets it was very therapeutic for her.

She was so lost in her work that when her comm badge suddenly crackled to life it scared her so badly that she jumped and had to stop herself from throwing the PADD that she had in her left hand.

"UGH!" She yelled in shock.

Turning red from the tips of her toes all the way to the top of her head, she tried to regain her composure. She looked at Spock who was now looking at her with both of his brows raised.

"Pipsqueak are you there? Come in, Pipsqueak! I need you to cut your time with your green-blooded hobgoblin short. I need you in the med bay Stat." Bones' voice filtered through her comm badge.

If she wasn't dying of embarrassment before, she sure was now. She slapped her hand onto her comm badge as quickly as she could so she could shut him up.

She was going to kill him! She couldn't believe he just said that!

"Oh would you SHUT UP! Get Nurse Chapel to do it, I'm busy!" She hissed back into the communicator.

Lifting her hand off of her comm badge, she feared for what would come out of Bone's mouth next.

"No can do, Pip. I would rather eat my own shirt than deal with Nurse diesel any day of the week." He replied.

She rolled her eyes at what he said, what a fucking man-baby!

"Good lord almighty, fine! Just please keep your shirt out of your mouth and I'll be right there." She griped.

Putting her face into her hands, she let out a long groan. She wanted to melt into the floor. She forced herself to look up at Spock who was still looking at with his brows raised.

"UGH, well, I guess duty calls and I have to leave now." She said, annoyed.

Looking down at her, his expression remained the same but he couldn't hide the fact that he has many questions swirling around in those eyes of his and they probably all had to do with that interaction she just had with Bones.

She growled internally, she was going to rip his head off and shove it up his ass.

"Indeed. Please return here at the same time tomorrow so we can continue. Be well, Annalise." He replied, she swore he softened his voice just slightly at the last part.

Her anger at Bones forgotten for the moment, she smiled at him warmly.

"I will absolutely be here at the same time tomorrow. Be well, Mr. Spock." She told him kindly.

Whirling around, she left Spock's office with a tiny bit of a spring in her step, maybe working with him wouldn't be as awkward and impossible as she first thought.

If Bones kept his stupid trap shut, anyway.

Spock

Spock watched Annalise leave his office with a slight spring in her step. He couldn't seem to keep his eyes off of her. He enjoyed watching the way her hair bounced behind her as she moved way more than he should.

The whole time they had been working together, he had been stealing sideways glances at her while she was unaware. He found it endearing the way that her small nose would scrunch up when she concentrated.

He was intrigued by how she hummed to herself and tapped her small foot when she was content.

He was, however, shocked at her intense reaction to being interrupted by her communicator badge. He was not stupid; he knew that wasn't a normal startle reaction at all. That reaction was indicative of some kind of trauma. The thought of sweet Annalise going through something traumatic made him unnaturally angry.

He had the same reaction when he caught students picking on her at school. For whatever the reason, he felt very protective of her. Perhaps, it was her sweet and gentle nature. He found it disgusting that somebody could cause somebody so kind such harm.

Another thing he found completely intriguing about her was her interaction with Dr. McCoy. He was aware that she had some kind of familial relationship with Captain Kirk. He was unsure what her relationship with Dr. McCoy was.

For whatever the reason, the thought of her having a relationship with Dr. McCoy that wasn't familial irritated him.

He knew that it was completely illogical to feel such feelings. She wasn't his intended and he was already in a relationship with Nyota.

He knew that whatever was happening to him had to stop now.

He would endeavor to be her friend and be there for should she need it as he was when she was in school and that would have to be good enough.
