"C'mon then-" He sighed, knowing it was going to be one long night.
"What?" She asked, confused.
"We have to go home." He explained.
The confusion on her face didn't cease, nor reduce at all. If anything, she looked more confounded. "We have to go where?"
"Home, Mer." He repeated, hoping this time it would go in.
"Why?" She pressed, barely registering his reply.
"Because you're drunk."
"What? Me?" She asked as she raised her hand and pointed at herself before glancing around.
He smiled. "Yes, you."
"No. Not me. I'm not drunk."
"The empty bottle of vodka says differently-" He said as he stood. He offered her his hand. "Now- C'mon. Up we get."
She took it, and let him drag her up. His hand kept its grasp of her, and he guided her from her seat across the field and towards the car park. Luckily, they had taken his car there.
"Aren't you drunk too?"
"I had a swig. You drank the bottle."
"No." She breathed. She shook her head. "We shared the bottle."
"We did, in a 99:1 ratio. That's 99 to you, by the way." He replied.
"Well...maybe it wasn't quite a 50:50 split. But like...not that bad. 60:40 maybe."
"You're the one who can't stay upright and are talking as if you have the filter of a sieve. I'm the one dragging you around. Do you seriously think it was a 50:50 split?" He asked, grinning at her.
She smiled. "Fine. 98:2." She joked.
He opened the car door for her. "Just...in you go, silly-" He sighed with a smile. He loved her, no matter how drunk she was.
She slipped into the car, and he shut the door for her before heading around to his own side.
"Right, now, we-" He started as he placed his key in the car, only to pause when he looked at her. "Meredith!"
"No?" She asked innocently.
"No, Jesus, Mer. What are you doing?" He asked rhetorically. His hands were raised in panic, but he wasn't quite sure what he could actually do about it. This? Her?
"But you like sex in the car."
"And you're so drunk that you're undressing in a car-" He sighed, hands finally moving to start doing her shirt back up.
"You don't like it when I undress?" She asked with a frown as she watched him button it back up.
"Not right now."
"But there's no one in the car park."
"I know but-" He paused. He didn't know how to finish that sentence, but he was hoping she'd be too drunk to care.
"But what?" She pressed.
Crap.
Meredith smiled. "Give me one good reason, Derek. One that outweighs the pleasure of sex. Go on. Dare you."
"Wasn't that good?" Meredith muttered. "Look me in the eye and tell me that wasn't good."
He licked his lips. "I'm not sure I can."
"Exactly. See, I was right. You know I'm-" She paused abruptly at the sound of tapping.
"You love birds done yet?" A voice called. "I need to close up."
Crap.
Neither of them spoke for a very long second, staring at each other with wide eyes. Luckily, it was dark enough that the man wouldn't be able to see everything, and they could tell that he had stepped away and turned the other way after knocking for their privacy.
"Um-" Meredith swallowed. "Yeah- uh- I'm sorry. We'll uh- yeah. Sorry."
"You're not the first ones to have sex in the car park after a game. Just getta outta here quick so I can go home."
She gulped again. "Yeah. Um- Sorry again."
"Okay-" Derek whispered. "There's that one reason you were looking for."
She giggled. "Yeah. I got that, Derek."
