Brian Irons looked around at the darkness surrounding the large nursery.
"This is your last fucking chance," he spat at the shadows. "Show yourself! Now!" Suddenly, a sharp pain seared across the damaged skin of his face. "Ahh fuck! It burns!" he cried out.
Irons turned toward another door in the nursery and thrust the key into the lock, leaving the set of keys dangling in the hole as he stumbled through into a bathroom, desperate to wash the burning pain away. Sherry peeked out from beneath the crib she had squeezed under. Noticing the keys, she took a deep breath and crept quietly towards them. She reached for the keys, and gripped them tightly in her fist.
Calming her fear, Sherry crept quietly toward the exit to the nursery when the sound of running water ceased.
Brain Irons turned back toward the bathroom door. "Where the fuck is my key?" he scowled as he moved swiftly through the bathroom doorway. His eyes suddenly locked on the small shadow as it threw open the nursery door "I see you!" he called. Sherry ran across the landing, down the stairs, and to the main doors
"Hurry…hurry" she whispered, as she thrust the keys into the lock and turned. She readied herself to run as fast as she ever had in her life when the doors started to swing outward, but then her heart sank into her stomach at the sight of a chain that had been tied around the doors from the outside. "What?" she cried, her voice cracking, as a stray tear rolled down her cheek.
"Nice try, Sherry," a menacing voice called from above. Sherry looked around in desperation, spotting the hallway that led onto the room with the doll. Irons made his way quickly down the stairs as Sherry ran across the lobby and entered the corridor, shutting the door swiftly behind her and locking it. Sherry stood for a few tense seconds, hearing Chief Irons shuffling around behind the barrier. Suddenly, the top part of the door imploded in a shower of wooden splinters as an axe came crashing through.
"I'm coming Sherry!" Irons growled menacingly, as he continued to smash through the door. The terror of the experience suddenly overwhelmed Sherry, and she let out a scream as she turned and ran toward the room, fear driving her instincts to try and escape. She entered the room and hid behind the table, her fear now having the opposite effect, and paralyzing her in place. She sat, listening to her own rapid breathing as footsteps boomed across the room and she was abruptly grabbed.
"The game is...over! "Iron's spat
"No!" Sherry pleaded when she was roughly lifted into the air.
"Now you're in trouble!" The angry man growled "Let me go!" Sherry cried, feeling tears escape from the corner of her eyes, when her blurry sight fell on a huge, red mass standing behind the chief. When Sherry realised that she was looking at the monster from the police station, she let out a huge scream, causing Irons to turn. He was suddenly grabbed by the face and the monster's great crimson hand started a pulsating motion. Sherry watched, unable to tear her eyes from the horror as the beast pulled its clawed hand away, and a large, slimy maggot like creature forced it's way down the chiefs throat "No, stop!" Sherry sobbed, as she ducked to hide once again behind the table. The creature turned her way, and took a step forward.
Leon and Claire quickly scrambled onto an abandoned school bus, and in one swift movement, Claire pulled the bus doors closed as several rabid dogs crashed violently into the glass. She dropped down against the small steps, breathing heavily and staring at the nightmarish creatures as they backed up and launched themselves against the glass, trying to get at their prey.
Is this nightmare ever going to end...
Claire felt the warmth of a comforting hand on her shoulder, pulling her from her despairing thoughts.
"Come on Claire, we need to get out of sight"
Claire's eyes locked onto Leon's determined gaze, and she gave a nod as she took his hand. The pair moved swiftly to the center of the bus, and lay out of sight of the doors. Claire worried if the dogs would be so easy to trick; after all, dogs were known for their fantastic sense of smell. She could only hope that these undead freaks no longer retained that skill. After a tense minute, the banging at the doors had ceased, and the low growls could no longer be heard. Claire listened to the sound of her own breathing when Leon broke the silence.
"I think they're gone," he whispered, pulling himself out of the small space between the chairs. Claire took a deep breath, and followed him, mimicking his half-crouched position as he made his way towards the back of the bus. He stopped, and peered around the last set of seats toward the rear exit.
"Anything?" Claire whispered to Leon's back.
He replied, "Looks clear." Then added, "Only one way to find out..."
The young cop stood, quietly pulling the door open and cautiously making his way onto the deserted streets. As Claire followed, she turned to her left and spotted a large building, its perimeter wall adorned with colorful illustrations.
"That's gotta be the orphanage," she said aloud as Leon turned her way, giving her a small nod in response. The pair pushed against the heavy wooden gate as howling on the wind caused the couple to turn their heads abruptly toward the sound.
"Claire, hurry!" Leon exclaimed, pushing her through quickly and then turning to slam the heavy gates shut, locking them tightly with a huge bolt. The gates shook violently as they were hit again and again from beyond. The young pair backed away quietly as Claire stated "I guess we should be glad Irons wants us here…"
Leon turned away from the noise and approached the building's front door "Shame he couldn't extend the hospitality," he said, as he lifted a huge chain wrapped around the handles of the vast double doors. Leon started to examine a large padlock when the desperate scream of a little girl came from within.
"SHERRY!" Claire cried.
Leon exclaimed, "Hang on!" as he pointed his firearm at the padlock and pulled the trigger.
