"Well I don't know ever since I met him I felt like I needed to be with him, to make sure he is alright. I can't stand the notion of him being away from me or that someone like Kirche would try to do something to him. You know what she is like, the minute she finds out how amazing he is, she will try to use her so-called charms on him and no I don't mean just the spell kind either. I can't risk him getting taken by someone else." Jean could see that this young woman had some serious confidence issues, however given the history between her and Kirche's family, he wouldn't put it past them.
The fact remains that as much as he would want to dismiss the notion, he knew that Kirche certainly used her looks to get her everything she ever desired, her sex appeal was hard for people to deny, or ignore. Never mind that she was extremely forward with her flirting. The few people who treated the young man simply said that he should have absolute rest and no stress, his body was recovering from what otherwise would have killed anyone else. This means that he could not allow Louise or any other of the female students in his room at all, the added stress and possible reactions of these young women could end up delaying his recovery, if not reopen his wounds.
Seeing as there was no other alternative, knowing the headmaster probably already knew everything he was told by the goddess who came to explain things to him, he had to go and visit the young man and ask him who he was and learn as much as possible about him, to better help him understand what was happening around him. He walked over to the young man still covered in bandages and looking more akin to a mummy than anything else, apparently, the nurse got extra flustered when she was going to bandage his chest when the nurse was asking why she reacted like that, she said he had abs that most people would kill to get.
As he sat down on a chair right next to the bed Jean Colbert introduced himself as one of the teachers that teach at the academy, that is where they were, the nation's most revered and valued place for learning, the Tristain Royal Academy. Saito upon hearing this began to understand that it was sort of like the way he was trained and educated, so when he appeared he sort of landed in the middle of a lesson. Jean was happy to see that he understood so much from his brief explanation. "You see Saito in our world when students reach the second year, they can perform a ritual to summon their lifelong companions, their friends, their most trusted ally, a familiar. As fate would have it the portal that was made by one of our students actually summoned you. In fact, she is supposed to do something after summoning her familiar and we could not let her do that due to no minor part your severe injuries."
Saito told him that he was not surprised about being summoned, he actually knew of such magic that could summon a person from great distances, and he was quite proficient in the use and knowledge regarding magic, being the son of the goddess of magic and being educated by her from an early age did grant him an education second to none. He did also attend his nation's academy as well, except they do not have their students attend a class where they get their familiars. It was simply not necessary strong magical power to attract magical creatures and their school was right next to a forest where hundreds of these creatures lived, and in many different types and species.
"The reason I came here Saito, is because I needed to talk to you about something, the person who caused you to be summoned here, is having a strange reaction to you, ever since she saw you she had been having these uncontrollable urges to be near you, do you have any idea why this is happening?" Saito could only mention that it might have something to do with the fact that his bloodline has people who are technically not human, when asked for an example he mentioned how in the past one of his ancestors was an Incubus, and in another time they married a Succubus.
He began to understand that apparently since his family does not discriminate or dislike any of the magical races, they eventually married into the family, and the result is that made Saito quite the attractive prospect due to having the charm of the Succubus, and the wit of the Incubus, never mind that if what he told him was correct, his magical strength would be unmatched by most people in their world. "A Prophecy told me I would be summoned, but honestly I had no intention of being summoned exactly when a minotaur terrorist was going to try and kill my friend. He threw a sword at her and I had to block it with my body, the force of the attack probably sent me into the portal your friend made, otherwise, I could have avoided it."
Jean spent a few hours explaining things to Saito about the world he found himself in and explained exactly how their social hierarchy was established, he did however explained that the person who summoned him suffered immensely because for some reason every time she attempted to cast a spell, it fails and only caused an explosion. "Sounds like a problem with the way magic flows through her body, I would need to examine her to find out what is wrong, but I should be able to figure out why this is happening."
Jean asked him how could he treat her then? Saito told him it could be many different ways, all depending on the condition she is in and what she is suffering with. Saito told him that thanks to his understanding of magic from several cultures and having been taught by someone who was such an expert that she was fluent and proficient in all of them, he was able to learn much more than most people think or imagine someone his age ever could. In reality, all Saito needed was to cast a spell developed to diagnose medical problems. If Saito met Louise and he used that one spell he would know exactly why she failed at casting a spell and everything that was causing it, if she lacked skill or talent he could even help her correct her understanding of magic.
Jean laughed and said it should be pretty damn easy for the son of the goddess who rules over magic. "I may be her son, but my mastery of magic is also thanks to the heavy work I put in to make it happen. Yes, I am a master sorcerer and not that it matters much, nobody will believe someone only in their late teens has achieved this level of mastery. I thank you for coming over to explain things to me, but you don't have to worry, I will not hold it against a bunch of kids spreading stupid rumors, they hurt themselves more than they hurt me. So you can relax, I also heard those rumors while I was recovering from my injury."
Jean could not believe the fact that he heard the very rumors he wished he didn't even know about. Much to his delight, Saito turns out to be a lot more calm and collected than he expected from someone who is a member of a royal family, or maybe it is because he had such horrible experience dealing with the ever so self-aggrandizement of the nobles in his own country. This made him feel a lot better but made him wonder what could this young man do, if he didn't become the familiar of Louise, he would need another source of employment, and to be able to earn a living. He tried to be as calm as possible when he decided to speak with him about his own potential situation.
"Saito, I am certain that you being a person with your level of mastery, would never want to accept becoming a mere familiar or even servant to one of my students, but if you do not, you will have to find another place where you can earn enough money for your daily needs. So I am sorry to tell you this but I would need to find out more about your talent with the four elements to know if you could even attempt to take the position I am thinking of." Saito could not understand why he thought there were only four elements, that was basic knowledge and this person was already making this horrible mistake. This was more than enough for him to stop him before he said anything else, he had to correct this immediately before someone said something else that Saito would consider embarrassing.
"Sir, you said your name was Professor Jean Colbert, correct? Well sorry to contradict you, but there are more elements than just four basic elements. In most traditional concepts of magic five elements are the basic elements, fire, water, wind, and earth you probably know, but how can you not know the void element. Yes, it is as you may suspect I have complete mastery over the five basic elements and even some of the more advanced elements. As for testing my ability with elemental magic, just name the time and place, and I will be more than happy to show you my abilities. You are quite correct that becoming a slave to someone is not the first thing that I would want or ever. I do however need to meet this person and try at the very least help her with her magical malady."
Jean was glad that he mentioned that since it gave him a clear understanding of how he should mention what he needed to say next, impressed that he knew so much he smiled, "Saito no one has been able to use the fifth corner of the pentagram in centuries. It is also called the missing element and thus is the reason why I did not mention it before. As for testing you, I would be glad to test you in the form of a friendly magic duel, to allow you to showcase your abilities and talents. You see Saito the position I think you could be placed in and gainful employment is that as a Professor like I am, with the level of mastery that you clearly possess, it would be a tragedy if we could not have you teach our students. I am hardly what some would call a master, and yet I am a professor here."
Saito understood what he meant by that, and it was rather touching that he cared about him like this, it was not something that most people would expect from a total stranger, and as much as he hated the idea of having to be responsible for a whole bunch of troublemaking kids, he understood that these young people could be considered the very future of their nation, and educating them was in a way a patriotic duty if not something that would help others immensely. As such he told Jean that he would happily accept to spar against him, but right now his main concern was about the girl who summoned him, he needed to help her if only to stop the heartless bullying she was forced to endure. Many of the rumors he heard about her were absolutely painful to listen to, and he knew it was much worse for her.
"Yes, you are right, the young woman who caused you to be summoned does need help, and you are also correct that you two need to resolve the issue of whether or not you will accept being her familiar or how will you two treat each other, as for employment as a professor, I would not worry too much since this academy is always on the lookout for talented people to join the teaching staff. If you do become a professor, you will come to know that the headmaster of this academy likes to keep an eye on everything that goes on here, by using a crystal ball to see and hear what people do around the academy."
It didn't matter what they said about him in the end, Saito said his abilities were the one thing they could not deny no matter how hard they tried, but right this moment he wanted to correct what was happening to the one that summoned him, she needed his help, and Saito told Jean that he would not let her suffer for a minute longer, he asked Jean to immediately bring this young woman to him, and he could watch him figure out what is wrong if Jean still didn't trust him.
Jean told him he didn't have to, she was actually standing outside the room, more than likely still listening through the door to what they had been talking about, as he opened the door, due to the surprise and abruptness of the door opening she fell down on the ground as she had been leaning on the door when it was closed. She quickly stood up and brushed some dust from her clothes as she walked over to him, almost with a challenging glare. "I am Louise Françoise le Blanc de la Vallière, I was the one who summoned you to be my familiar, but I never believed that you would be a human, let alone one that can use magic, now I hear you think you have a way to make me able to use magic, could you please not toy with my feelings, many healers have tried to do that and failed, what makes you any better than our nation's best healers, once that treat the royal family?"
Saito told her that there was no reason not to at least attempt it, in the best case he could find out what the hell was causing all her spells to end up as explosions, and at worst he failed and she remained the same way she was. Either way, she would not lose anything, and could in fact gain much. She immediately walked over to him and asked him what she needed to do, much to her shock he told her she needed to do nothing, just stand there with her arms and legs spread. Jean began to wonder why this necessary as he saw Saito hold his hands together and mutter some words in a language he could not understand until a ball of green energy was formed in his closed hands, he immediately threw the ball at Louise who was enveloped in a green light, till he saw what was wrong. As the green light covered her body it made her look like she was being covered by hundreds if not thousands of chains, till the only thing that could be seen were her eyes. Saito understood immediately what was going on.
"This is why her spellcasting fails, every single time, her magic has to fight through two seals that have been placed on her, one was placed years ago, but the second one is not as old, it seems one was placed the day she was born and the other one must have been done in her early teens, the first one is almost impossible to remove, the chains are too strong as it were, items would be needed to remove something that clearly is passed down a bloodline, the second one however is flimsy at best, a simple spell will break it without any trouble. So all in all, I can help her and teach her different ways to cast spells that will bypass that first seal on her."
Again Saito merely pointed his hand and uttered another series of words before he made the motions with his fingers as if he were holding a wand, and a beam of light hit her causing most of the chains to crumble into dust and only half of her body was covered by the chains that the diagnosis spell was showing them. "That should allow her magical power to properly form spells, if you don't believe me, cast a spell right now, and you will see that I am not mistaken or lying about this."
Jean was against the very notion of her casting any spells in the clinic at all, the explosion would cause Saito even more injuries. She saw that Saito was certain, and in an act of defiance or maybe trust, she took out her wand and began to cast a simple light spell which much to the shock of Louise and Jean actually worked, she held her wand and at the tip of it the light that was supposed to be produced by the spell was present, no explosion.
The diagnosis spells had ended and she was looking at them as if nothing had been done to her, but she was happy that one of her spells actually did what it was supposed to do, and Jean asked Saito why she succeeded when nothing she did before did. Saito explained that most of her magical power was being blocked from exiting her body to power her spells, the backlash of her magic power and the draw of magic by the spells is the reason why there was an explosion instead.
"Currently I only could remove one of the two seals that are on her, so right now seventy percent of her magical power is still sealed by the first seal, but now she can use the thirty percent that can now work as intended thanks to the second seal no longer being present. In other words, she can cast spells as any magical practitioner, to bypass the first seal, she would require to be taught how to use magic in a much different way." Louise after hearing this asked him, what would she need to learn the way she could use much more powerful magic.
Saito told her that she would essentially become his student, and he could quite easily teach her exactly how to use magic powered not by her own magical power but also by another source of magic. Louise asked him what he meant by another source of magical power? He laughed and told him magic is everywhere, in the air, in the soil, and even in the water, as the elements exist all around them so they each radiate magical power, and it forms a veil that surrounds everything and connects everyone.
"Louise you can't get most of your magical power out because the seal is preventing you, but you can gather magical power from everywhere around you, and thus with enough skill and patience, you can have the same magical power as if you had no seals on you, and what is worse, given enough time and we find the items that were used to create that seal, you can boost your already massive magical power even further." Jean could understand what he was talking about, when the last remaining seal was undone, she could cast a spell and boost it using the magical energy in the environment. That is what he meant and the very notion of this was frightening if someone who had ulterior motives learned what Saito offered to teach to Louise. The worst part is once she actually finishes learning what Saito would teach her, she could share it with the rest of her family, which means that the most feared warrior who defends their nation, could very well come out of retirement because of this.
Saito feeling a bit tired decided to simply lean back on his bed and it was clear to both Louise and Jean that Saito wanted to take a brief nap, but Louise was not having that until Jean told her they could do the last part of the familiar summon ritual the next school day, and since this was still the beginning of the weekend, she should allow Saito to recover more from his injuries and maybe allow the healers do help him do some exercises to help him feel better. Louise complained that as long as those healers were men, and none of the female students were allowed to be near him, she would allow this to happen, but if a girl tried to sneak in and steal her man, then there would be hell to pay.
Saito did not take long to recover since Saito was using a recovery spell on himself even when he was asleep thanks to a skill he learned from his uncle. It was early Monday morning when they called everyone to watch as Louise she would do the last part of her familiar summon ritual, much to the chagrin of Kirche and apparently Ms. Longueville. The assistant to the headmaster had been caught several times trying to sneak into Saito's room without any success, apparently, when asked she just mentioned that the headmaster had questions and she would ask things to help him and to clarify some of the things they had heard.
As Louise stood near him, she was blushing as she came closer to him and told him that by her name she would accept him as her familiar, and she sealed this declaration with a kiss on his lips, the kiss lasted only for a brief moment, but several of the young women present glared at Louise who was smiling after she stepped away as the kiss ended. Saito on the other hand was feeling like his skin was on fire, as he began to notice that on his hand, runic writing began to appear. Being proficient in runes he understood what these runes were, and when he noticed that two of them would literally modify his memories and force him to have feelings for his supposed master, he used his finger to change the wording of the two last parts of the familiar mark.
If Saito was honest with himself this entire process was much more painful than what he endured when that minotaur threw that sword at Annabeth. It literally felt like someone used a hot iron to brand those runes on his hand, and the person who did it really wanted him to feel pain. Some of the teachers noticed that one line read almost like a name, and it was Gandálfr. It was said that this particular familiar was one of the familiars that would follow a void mage.
Their nation's founder was such a mage himself and he actually held the honor and distinction of having the most if not all of the void familiars under his command, which is why Tristain had such utter reverence for those who practiced magic, and why the academy had such a heavy focus in training their students to be capable mages. Louise at least felt a little better thinking that after seeing this, there would be only one who would be foolish enough to mess with her and try to steal her man. Even if the other women in the academy knew it, Kirche would not let social norms or anything get in her way.
Saito once again was in the clinic getting bandages for his hands to help them recover from what had happened to him, but in reality, they were doing this to get enough times to write down on a piece of paper everything that was on his mark, the headmaster wanted them to write this down and tell no one, just bring it to him. Saito wondered if he would be given a place to sleep, would he sleep in the clinic, or where he was supposed to sleep?
Louise simply told him to follow her to her room, as he was now technically her familiar, and she would be allowed to have him live with her in the same room, Ms. Longueville was quick to mention that since he can use magic, then maybe he could be enrolled as a transfer student, that is when Professor Colbert decided to interject, he told them that as far as he understands Saito unlike all the others his age had already finished his training, in fact, his level of knowledge is equal to that of a professor. "And even if he is fully trained, he is still my familiar, and a familiar lives and dies with their master, as our school's most sacred motto. So Saito will be living with me in my dorm room."
