Chapter 1: Zero Hour

The world said they didn't want or need them anymore. That the reason for why Overwatch was created had passed and that they were now the problem. He honestly couldn't blame them for being afraid, for calling them criminals, but he also couldn't just stand by and do nothing. Moreso than ever with Null Sector upping their attacks globally, the assassination of Mondatta, and the recent attack on Watchpoint: Gibraltar. Now was the time to act, the Petras Act and consequences be damned, the world needed them, even if it didn't want them. He only wished more of his family answered the Recall.

Inside the shuttle, it was quieter than he had hoped, though it was the same shuttle he and his family once used, but now, so many seats were left empty. Seats like Jack Morrison's, Ana Amari's, Torbjörn Lindholm's, Angela Ziegler's. It was just incredibly empty.

Winston, a super-intelligent, genetically engineered gorilla, looked down at the photo of Overwatch, his family for so many years when he escaped the Moon colony. In the photo were most of the people missing from the shuttle. He looked down at the photo sadly, wishing more of them had answered the recall, but he couldn't blame them for not coming back, especially with what happened in Switzerland, the testimonies that followed, and the personal reasons many of them had not to come back.

"Winston?" said a woman's voice, getting the scientist's attention.

"Hmm?" Hummed Winston as he looked up at his fellow scientist, Dr. Mei-Ling Zhou, Overwatch's climatologist from the Ecopoint: Antartica where she was trapped in cryostasis for nine years due to a systems glitch. Upon researching Winston's recall, Mei fabricated her own escape with the help of the base's drone, Snowball, and travelled to join him in Gibraltar.

"Uh...," started Mei, sitting across from Winston, Snowball hovering by her side as she held onto her Endothermic Blaster's tank.

"What's on your mind, Mei?" Winston asked curiously, forgoing his previous longing for his old family.

"Do...," she began meekly as she looked at the empty shuttle around them, "Do we have enough people for this mission?"

"As long as we stick together, we'll be fine," assured Winston as he gave Mei a confident grin, though internally, they would have better odds with more friends.

Hearing his assurance, Mei smiled as she readied her tank, twisting the nob on the top as the tank let out a his and the glass around the tank froze from the sudden drop in temperature. Winston for his part took another look at his photo for a moment before sticking it next to his chair on his right. He pressed down on it for a moment as he gave it a hopeful look.

"If you're going to show," Winston said softly, "Now would be a good time."

It was then a chime echoed through the shuttle's cabin, prompting both Winston and Mei to look at the cockpit where their pilot was located.

"Attention!" Said Lena "Tracer" Oxton brightly as he pressed a few buttons and switches in the cockpit, "This is your captain speaking, we're on final approach to Paris."

Sure enough, the shuttle was closing in on the French capital, passing through the clouds and beginning it's descent. Hearing that announcement, Winston turned to Mei, "That's our cue!" He said confidently as he reached for his own weapon, a Tesla Cannon. Flipping a switch, electricity sparked down the copper coils inside the cannon barrel.

"You may now power on your electronic devices," added Lena humourously as Mei connected Snowball to the top of her fluid tank, "Weather is mostly cloudy, with a hundred percent chance of-"

An explosion erupted from one of Paris' buildings, throwing a fireball of flames and debris up into the air.

"Null Sector invasion," Concluded Tracer as she leveled the shuttle out.

Down in the street, a Null Sector Nulltrooper saw the approaching shuttle but paid it no mind, directing its focus on the threat in front of it. As other Nulltroppers marched down the street, they fired purple pulse bolts at Frances armed forces.

"Winston, clear us a spot to land," requested Lena as she began to bank around a large intersection where some of the french armed forces were being pinned down by Null Sector, "We'll be right behind you."

"Huh, you better be," replied Winston with a grin as he headed to the exit hatch, pressing the red button that caused the back hatch to open up. Despite the shuttle being around a hundred feet in the air, the genetically engineered gorilla wasn't phased for a moment.

"Why is Null Sector attacking now?" asked Mei with worry, looking down at the fire fight in the street.

"Hmph, I don't know, Mei," replied Winston as he charged his Tesla Cannon, "But the people down there need help, and right now, we're all they've got."

As he said that, Winston leaped out of the shuttle, letting out a roar as he gripped his cannon.

Down in the street, an Omnic civilian and young human child were running away from the Null Sector forces, a french police officer providing them covering fire as they ran away. The child fell for a moment, but was quickly scooped up in the Omnic's arms who continued to run. The Omnic took cover behind an abandoned car, the police quickly joining them behind another car, Null Sector's forces right on their heels, continuing to fire on them. The officer was using an old ballistic assault rifle, essentially a brick compared to the pulse weapons Null Sector possesses. Before the Nulltroopers could continue their approach, a roar from above got their attention.

Winston let out a roar as he smashed down onto several Nulltroopers. The french police officer glanced over the car, though she looked on in bewilderment at seeing a gorilla wearing armor, a jump pack, and carrying a cannon.

Looking back, Winston gave her and the Omnic and child, who also peeked out from their cover to see who saved them, "Bonjour, Officer!" greeted the scientist, giving them a smile, "We're here to help!"

Without another word, Winston began charging the Null Sector forces, firing his Tesla Cannon. Arcs of electricity shooting out, electrocuting the Nulltroopers, frying their circuits and causing them to explode when the plasma reserves ruptured. Meanwhile, the police officer was still looking on in confusion, the human girl looked on in awe. As for the Omnic Civilian, all he had to say was, "Euh, c'était un singe?"

Winston continued to charge forward, smashing any Nulltrooper that got within arms reach while blasting the other Nulltroopers with his Tesla Cannon, clearing out the street and giving Tracer a clear landing zone for her to bring the shuttle down. Picking a spot just behind where the civilians were, to get them out of there as soon as possible.

However, it soon became clear that they were still too few members in their team as Winston was then pinned down by several Nulltroopers. He tried using his enhanced strength to through them off, managing to get one off, but only for a moment, all the while a Nulltrooper was charging up it's pulse gun to shoot Winston.

Before it could fire, a shard of ice strength the back of its head, freezing part of it in ice. The Nulltrooper's head wasn't completely frozen, but several more shots added to it, even freezing its arm to its face when it tried to block the shots.

"Grrr, good work, Mei!" Complimented Winston as glanced over at the meek scientist, who was standing awkwardly in the middle of the street.

"Thanks!" Replied Mei, not noticing the Nulltrooper to her left preparing to shoot her. However, Tracer suddenly blinked in, shooting the trooper with her Pulse Pistols, the barrage quickly taking the robot down.

"Watch your back!" Advised Tracer, having been in firefights like this before.

She then Blinked away, firing on other Nulltroopers while Winston finally freed himself, throwing off the Nulltroopers that pinned him down. The throw robots collided with other Null Sector forces, destroying them. Grabbing an overturned van, Winston hauled the wreck into the middle of the street to act as improvised cover.

"Get the civilians to the ship!" Ordered Winston, looking over at Mei.

"You got it," replied the climatologist as she finished freezing a Nulltrooper in ice, leaving only its hand unfrozen. The lone survivor of Ecopoing: Antarctica didn't even make it two feet before the ground shook and mechanical booms echoed through the air.

"What was that?" She whispered while stopping where she was.

Mei looked back down the street, as did Winston and saw a Null Sector Titan round the street corner. A colossal war machine that towered over the buildings, armed with the heaviest weapons the terrorist organization could get their hands on like Wrist-mounted artillery, Hellsiege missile launchers, fusion cannon, and a devastation beam. Not to mention the strongest Hyperion armor to date, capable of shrugging off nuclear weapons.

"Wah?!" Gasped Winston as the Titan armed its wrist-mounted artillery at him, loosing a volley at him.

The shots exploded on impact with the ground, sending Winston tumbling across the ground, destroyed the makeshift cover. The Titan then switched to its main weapon, the devastation beam, its chest opening up and a red glow of energy began to collect.

"TAKE COVER!" Shouted Winston just as the beam fired.

A massive red beam sliced through by the street and everything that was in it, forcing the civilians and three Overwatch agents to run for shelter. The beam even sliced right through the shuttle, cutting it right in half. However, they were not safe yet, as the energy from the beam had collected in the ground before exploding, creating a line of explosions down the street. Winston was thrown back by the first series of explosions.

"NO!" Cried Mei as she created a wall of ice between the explosion and the civilians.

While to people were protected, Mei was thrown into the air by the following explosions and crashed down a side street. The line of detonations kept going down the street, all the way to the shuttle where it was blown to pieces with ease.

Ringing filled Winston's ears, it having been a while since he was in the field. As the gorilla's vision and hearing returned, he let out a cough and saw Tracer with Mei and the civilians. It looked like latter was injured with the civilians being unharmed.

"WINSTON!" Yelled Tracer, seeing her friend relatively unharmed.

The gorilla approached them, having picked himself up, a look of concern on his face, "Mei?" He said with worry.

The Chinese scientist let out a groan of pain as she held her left side, "She needs help, we can't stay here." Advised Tracer, looking up at Winston.

More explosions erupted behind them, courtesy of the Titan firing its fusion cannon, destroying whatever it could while the Nulltroopers had reorganized themselves, resuming their march down the street.

Winston's mind raced for something they could, he was a genius for crying out loud! There had to be some way he could get them all out of there! But no matter what strategy he came up with, he couldn't them all to safety.

It was then his attention fell onto the burned photo of his family. The edges had been scorched, but the photo was mostly intact. He then realized, he had only one option. The only choice he had to get his family and the civilians to safety.

"Tracer...," began Winston, deciding on what to do next, "get everyone out of here. I'll hold the line."

Lena looked at her friend in shock at what he was saying. Despite her injury, Mei spoke up, "But... you said to stick together."

"Don't worry," assured Winston, steeling himself, "I'll be right behind you."

Tracer swallowed for a moment before giving the gorilla a hard look, "You better be."

With a small smirk, Winston nodded as he grabbed the handle of his Tesla Cannon. Stepping out of cover, the gorilla put himself between Null Sector and the civilians and his family. Mei looked back to see the scientist stand defiantly before the Titan and Null Troopers.

This was his choice, his responsibility to bear. As he looked up, he recalled what his first friend, Dr. Harold Winston, had once told him, 'Never accept the world as it appears to be, dare to see it for what it could be.' It was those same words that went through his head when he chose to recall all Overwatch Agents because the world needs them, even if it says it doesn't want them.

Even as the Titan's fusion cannon began charging up, Winston never wavered, he didn't blink, he didn't run. He was daring to see the world for what it could be, even to the very end.

Just as the Titan fired, a familiar white, gray, and green shape landed in front of Winston. As the fusion cannon's three shots flew down, the figure drew their wakasashi and deflected the first shot into several Nulltroopers, the second into a few others, and the third and final fusion shot right back at the Titan. The shot slid right up the side of the fusion cannon, grinding against the armor before it impacted against the Titan. The shot had enough power to knock the giant robot down.

The blade of the wakasashi glowed red from the heat, but held its shape as the figure lowered the blade slightly. Across their back was a katana held in its sheath. It was at that moment that Tracer, Mei, and the civilians had stopped to see who had saved Winston. Mei's expression changing to relief and happiness, as did Tracer's and Winston's when the figured turned to look back at them.

"Genji?!" Said Winston with surprised joy.

Without a word, the cyborg ninja deployed three collapsible shurikens from his right arm before throwing them at three Nulltroopers, nailing each one right in the middle of their heads as he dashed forward and sliced another Nulltrooper in half. It was then Winston heard another side coming from his left, a car horn beeping if he had to guess.

Looking down the street, he and Tracer saw a large mobile home plowing through Null Sector's forces and smashed through several piled up cars. The collision had actually caused the vehicle to spin around, but it hardly mattered as from the vehicle a huge silver figure burst through the roof.

"HAMMER DOWN!" A man's voice cried out as he brought down his rocket powered hammer onto the street, completely crushing several Nulltroopers, while the shockwave from the hammer striking the street threw any remaining robots off their feet.

In that same moment, a larger metal flail shot out on an extended chain, smashing several over Nulltroopers before retracting, taking out a few others. As the flail connected with the handle, Brigitte Lindholm flipped some hair out of her face while Reinhardt Wilhelm rested his massive hammer on his shoulder, wearing his original Crusader armor.

"Yes!" Cheered Lena with joy as she shook Winston's shoulder, "The Calvary's here!"

Taking out her pulse pistols, she Blinked into the fight to join Genji, a new sense of confidence coursing through her. As Tracer charged into the fray, Winston looked up to see another familiar face join the battle. Flying overhead was a white robot firing blue bolts of energy, taking out several Nulltroopers. A few shots hit some Nulltroopers and while they didn't destroy, whatever it was that was fired did suddenly expand and glow a brighter blue before exploding taking out several robots in the process.

"Hello, Winston!" Greeted the newcomer in a friendly tone.

"Echo!" Recognized the gorilla, seeing the adaptive robot had come back online.

It was then a golden light began to shine down onto him and the civilians from directly above. Looking right up, Winston saw Angela fly right down in a golden flash. She landed right next to Mei and placed her hand on the climatologist's right arm.

"Let's get you back in the fight!" Said Angela with determination and kindness as energy flowed through her arm and onto Mei, healing all of her wounds in an instant.

"Woah!" Breathed Mei with amazement.

The moment was interrupted when they heard the Titan begin to rise up. As it lifted itself up, its chest had been damaged, a large hole in its right chest plate had been created thanks to Genji reflecting the shot right back at it. The shoulders suddenly opened up, revealing hundreds of rockets inside. Before it fired on them, a bright blue bolt struck the side of its head. While it didn't damage it, it did get the Titan's attention as it fired a huge volley of missiles at the new attacked. A blue glow filled the sky as the gathered Overwatch agents saw who it was.

Flying overhead was Max Steel in his T.U.R.B.O. Flight Mode, easily avoiding and dodging the missiles as they tried to destroy him and his partner, Steel.

"You didn't think we'd let you guys have all the fun, did you?" Joked Max as the last of the missiles detonated and he flew back down to join his comrades.

"Max!" Said Winston, glad to see him join the fight. A flash of T.U.R.B.O. Energy later and he was in the Base Steel Suit, followed by Steel who disconnected from Max's chest plate.

"What am, a rusted paper weight?" Demanded Steel, wanting some greeting himself, but they couldn't focus on that right now.

With its targets all in one spot, the Titan had charged up its Devastation Beam once more, intent on taking them all out at once.

"Interlock shields!" Shouted Brigitte as she and Reinhardt deployed their particle barriers.

The barriers held off the beam when it was fired, but it wouldn't hold forever.

"How are we going to stop this thing?" Asked Angela.

Winston began running some ideas through his head before he settled upon one. Looking over at Mei, he looked at her backpack.

"Mei!" He said, having to raise his voice over the roar of the beam against Brigitte and Reinhardt's shields, "Your backpack!"

"Huh?" Replied Mei, confused for a moment before realizing what Winston and in mind, "That could work!"

Taking off her backpack, she placed it on the ground, "Tracer, Pulse Bomb!"

Without a second thought, Lena gave Mei the explosive device, "Here you go!"

As Mei worked, the Titan began advancing closer, putting more pressure on the barrier, causing Brigitte to groan as he muscles ached against the strain.

"It is getting hot!" Shouted Reinhardt, looking back for a moment.

Echo then gave the group some breathing room, attacking the Titan, drawing its attention with her explosive putty. The massive war machine unleashed another volley of missiles, all of them targeting her and like Max Steel, she easily evaded them.

"Ready!" Said Mei, finished connecting the Pulse Bomb to the tank.

Passing it to Winston, he looked over at Tracer, "Go long!"

"Right!" Agreed the pilot as she Blinked towards the Titan.

"Once it's frozen, we'll finish it off," stated Max as he and Steel got ready.

With the plan ready, Winston armed the bomb and hurled the backpack into the air. As the improvised explosive sailed through the air, Tracer caught it, but saw the Titan was reaching for her and it. Lena's eyes widened as the hand grew closer, but before it could grab her, she heard Genji's voice.

"Ryujin no ken wo kurae!" The cyborg shouted as he drew his Dragonblade.

Like a knife through butter, Genji sliced the top half of the Titan's hand off, allowing Tracer to stay on target. Blinking one more time, the pilot slipped inside the war machine, using the newly formed hole as an entrance and placed the I.E.D. down inside it near the core, with only a few seconds left to spare.

Once it was in place, she Recalled herself back to where she started, right next to Winston. The scientist turned to Max and Steel.

"Get ready!"

"We're always ready!" Assured Steel as he and Max got into position.

"Go T.U.R.B.O.: Cannon!" Shouted Max as Steel slammed into his chest. His entire body lit up with T.U.R.B.O. Energy and the suit broke apart before reforming into T.U.R.B.O. Cannon Mode.

Max Steel grunted as he charged the powerful mode with energy, just as the Cryo pulse bomb detonated. A huge blast of freezing moisture erupted from the war machine, and when he was fully charged himself, Max Steel launched himself at the frozen Titan, smashing right into the chest, shattering the entire Null Sector war machine to pieces. A huge white cloud rushed out from the collapse of the frozen Titan.

Eventually, the cloud faded and turned into a gentle snowfall.

"That might have been a little overkill," commented Max Steel as he pulled himself out of the debris, having shifted back into the Base Steel Suit.

"You think?" Inquired Steel rhetorically as he disconnected from his best friend's chest plate.

"Victory is ours, my friends!" Cheered Reinhardt who removed his helmet.

"Hi, Lena," greeted Brigitte, surprising Tracer who spun around to see the young woman behind her.

"Brigitte!" Gasped Lena with surprise and joy as she hugged the teenager before stepping back to look at her, "Oh my gosh you've grown!"

"Well now we know where all of Torbjörn's height went," joked Max as his helmet retracted.

"Max!" Cried Lena as she ran over to hug him, "I'm so glad you answered the recall!"

"Being an Overwatch agent beats running T.H.I. any day of the week," replied Max with a chuckle as he returned the hug.

"Oh!" Realized Lena as she blinked out of the hug and appeared beside Mei, "Everyone, this is Mei!"

The pilot introduced the meek scientist who waved awkwardly to the gathered agents, "Hi, everyone."

"'Ice' to meet you!" Joked Reinhardt, taking Mei's hand and giving her a firm handshake.

"Ugh/Boo!" Brigitte groaned while Steel booed Reinhardt's attempt at humor.

Max and Lena just chuckled while the former turned to face Genji, "Nice to see you again, Genji."

"Likewise, Max," replied the cyber ninja as the two exchanged a fist bump.

It was then as Winston came to join the other Agents, the French police officer spoke up.

"Monsieur," she started, getting Winston's attention, and the attention of the other Overwatch Agents, "Does this mean Overwatch is back?"

Looking at each other for a moment, the gathered agents shared some nods before Winston turned to face her, a proud smile on his face.

"Yes," he proclaimed with pride, "Yes we are!"

Max smiled as he glanced over at Steel, the Ultralink gave his best friend a fist bump. The two were back at again with Overwatch, and this time, they are gonna do things right.

Later...

The following evening, Max, Steel, and the other Overwatch agents had returned to Watchpoint Gibraltar, wanting to regroup and be ready to head out again as soon as possible. However, Winston did suggest they come here to rest up for the moment before their next mission.

Currently, Max had decided to go to his old room that he had when he and Steel were a part of Overwatch. The mid-twenty year old was currently on the phone with an old family friend he wanted to include on this recall. Despite their new numbers, they were still short several others. So he wanted to invite her to join him with the new Overwatch.

After a few rings, he heard the person he wanted to call pick up the phone.

"Hello?" Said a woman's voice, one that Max was pretty familiar with.

"Hey Fareeha, how are you?" Greeted Max, glad to hear her voice as he sat down on his bed.

"Max?! Is that you?" Said the woman in surprise, her tone turning more serious, "Is there something you need?"

"No actually, I just wanted to let you know about something," he answered, recalling how strained their relationship had become since Overwatch had disbanded and Fareeha's mother had disappeared.

"Okay...," said Fareeha carefully, her tone going from serious to cautious mixed with curiosity, "What is it?"

"Winston recalled all Overwatch agents," revealed Max, scratching his neck, "We're making a comeback, Fareeha. So, I was wondering if..."

"If I'd like to join the New Overwatch," finished Fareeha, her tone now filled with awe.

Max remembered how badly Fareeha wanted to join Overwatch with her mother, but she never got that chance while he did. Max knew how much it meant to her to join the peace keeping organization with her mother, Ana Amari, but when she disappeared and Overwatch got shut down, Fareeha lost that chance. So now, he wanted to give her a place on the team.

"It's not Helix and we're really hurting for members," he admitted to Fareeha, "but we'd be more than honored to have you be a part of this."

"I don't know what to say," admitted Fareeha, taken a back by the offer.

"'Yes' is a good thing to say," joked Max, earning a chuckle from the daughter of Ana Amari.

"Then yes, you can count on me," assured Fareeha, causing Max to let out a sigh of relief.

"Thanks Fareeha, I really appreciate you joining us," said the young man in gratitude.

"I should be thanking you, Max," replied the woman, "Oh, and Max."

"Yeah?"

"It's nice to hear from you again," said Fareeha before she hung up. Max smiled softly as he put the phone down beside him.

However, the moment was then interrupted by a pair of hands that rested on his shoulders. A light buzzing of electricity followed and Max was from in place as purple lighting coursed over the Steel suit.

"So... you and Ana Amari's kid?" Inquired a teasing voice, causing Max to glance over his shoulder to see a familiar face behind him. a young Mexican woman with a slender build appeared out of thin air. She has tan skin and dark hair, shaved to one side and the ends are dyed purple. She wore a purple-blue ombre suit under a black and purple coat with a wide collar. Her nails are painted purple. She also has slits in the middle of each of her eyebrows and a beauty mark under her left eye.

"Now there's a story, I'd love to hear, Chulo," giggled the woman as she wrapped her slender arms around Max's neck and leaned into his back.

Max sighed as he figured he'd be here for a while, at least until either Steel or someone else came to his room looking for him. Or until Sombra got what she wanted. If there was one thing he knew about her, is that she always had her own agenda and interests.
