️.ೃ࿐ i. TRIGGER WARNINGS ⸺ This book deals with topics such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, dissociation, mentions of abuse, mentions of suicidal thoughts and destructive behavior, sexual assault, implied/referenced non-con elements, unhealthy relationships, canon-typical violence. There is a plot line which involves past child grooming as well as mentions of rape/dubious consent, it does not go into explicit detail and it doesn't actively happen in this book but rather takes place in the events that lead to this book. It is mentioned often and is the biggest part of the book and they are often used against the characters who went through it but please understand that I, as an author would never treat the characters in such a way. Thank you for understanding!

?.࿐ ii. CROSS-POSTING ⸺ This is a complete rewrite of Golden Girl, Painted Black which is still posted on this account and can still be read if you're willing to do that to yourself so if this story seems familiar to you, this is why! I think that you're not supposed to have two versions on this site so eventually it will be taken down but as of this current moment it is still up and running and this version is completely different in many aspects. However if you ever find that Golden Girl, Painted Black is no longer available on this platform you can still read the old version my ao3 account if you would really like to. So Much For Stardust is also posted on AO3, FFN, and Quotev!

‼️ ii. PLEASE NOTE ⸺ I DO NOT SUPPORT JK Rowling or her views that she's shared with the world since writing the canon Harry Potter, I don't even agree with a lot of things she wrote in the books. in this story LGBT+ relationships (Bisexuality, Homosexuality, GirlxGirl, BoyxBoy, etc...), gender identity ( the mc is genderfluid and a subplot of their story is discovering their identity and what pronouns they want to use!) and a vast discussion of other LGBT+ topics are a very HUGE part of this story so please know that going in. I do not need any comments slandering that. I didn't put this notice in my works once before and I literally got thirty-comment long thread about it spewing homophobic bullshit and I don't want to do that again, so I'm putting it here for people to see and note before getting into the books. So if for whatever reason you're hateful towards this community please click off now because I do not want to be seeing any hateful comments nor do I want my readers to see any! This is a safe space for the LGBT+ community!

ASTEROPE IS THE FIRST OF THEIR NAME, THEY COME FROM A FAMILY OF STARS ──── a myriad of Sirius', a handful of Orions, and even two Bellatrixs but she was the first Asterope. Named after the Sterope I and Sterope II double star from the Pleiades open cluster or better known as the Taurus constellation, Asterope's name meant the 'sun-faced star'. And her middle name meant 'the golden one' and Asterope was convinced her parents named her out of pure irony because they treated her as though she was the black sheep of their family. They did not seem to care or believe that Asterope could achieve something great, and this was a belief that both Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy had of Asterope long before they were sorted into Hufflepuff. Asterope's parents believed that she was unworthy of her name and so she disowned herself from the Malfoy family.
Their disownment, although entirely their own decision, has haunted them and Asterope has always wondered where she went wrong ──── when did she fall from grace? Quite frankly she doesn't remember being in their graces, all Asterope remembers is always being in a free-fall with them, nothing they did was ever good enough for their parents. And she remembers the bone-crush landing of her fall, the aftermath of a torturous family dinner where she came to devastating reality that she would never be good enough, she'd never be happy being good enough for them. She had to leave, and so Asterope did, and so they let her; just like that. Letting Asterope leave seemed to come as easy as breathing to Lucius and Narcissa, and it killed Asterope. As free as Asterope felt no longer carrying the Malfoy name on their brittle shoulders, she still felt the pain of being let go without a second glance and it weighed far heavier on her shoulders than the Malfoy name ever did.
Little did Asterope know that it was all part of a plan, a plan to give her a better life as per instructions by her biological mother. Lucius and Narcissa let Asterope go, as much as it killed them to lose their niece, they knew it was for the better. They understood that Asterope was meant for a life they wished they could've had but were now resigned to just to keep themselves and their son safe. At least Asterope was able to get out safely to their knowledge. But they couldn't know the damage they caused Asterope by trying to do best by her and her mother, they didn't know the actions they took with the best intentions were vicious and cruel regardless because vicious and cruel had been all that Narcissa and Lucius knew growing up. And due to this, they pushed Asterope right into the path of the prophecy that her mother had worked so hard to protect her from.
Asterope, only twelve and without a name to uphold, is taken in by her family's maid who gives her the love she had always craved only without the worry of working for it. Only twelve and she takes on a new name 'Macleod-Black' like her older cousin had and even though Asterope doesn't have to because it is no longer expected of them, Asterope is determined to uphold the Macleod-Black name. They would prove to their parents wrong, they would show them that she did deserve the name they were given. Asterope would show them that they could be the golden one, they'd prove that they deserved to be named after a star because they were better than the rest of them, they would outshine the lot of them.
But the thing about stars is that they're doomed to burn out and collapse and Asterope, no matter how hard they tried, would not be an exception to this because that's what happens to stars and that's how the prophecy has to go . . .
NEVILLE FRANK LONGBOTTOM WAS CERTAIN THAT HE WOULD NEVER LIVE UP TO HIS FAMILY'S EXPECTATIONS, CERTAIN HE WOULD FOREVER BE LETTING HIS PARENTS AND THEIR LEGACY DOWN. There was nothing special about him, as far as he or any of his surviving family knew and even if there was, Neville reckons he would never be have as special as what he might've been if his parents had been around. Or perhaps he was never meant for greatness, Neville had never really strived for much in his life other than to make his parents proud. And if he was being honest, that was all he was taught to do ──── make his mother and father proud, that was the only thing he would ever be good for, if he could live up to the daunting task.
His grandmother was always disappointed in him because he was never enough like his father and his great uncle loathed him for being too much like his mother, and his godmother always joked that the Death-Eaters who attacked his parents replaced him with another baby because he was too much of a pathetic coward to even be an ounce of a Longbottom. He thought, although he had begged the sorting hat to be put into Hufflepuff instead, when the sorting hat placed him in Gryffindor but it got worse because he went and befriended Asterope Malfoy, the blood of those very Death-Eaters who took his parents away.
In his defence, he didn't mean to truly go and befriend Asterope. He thought it would be smart to get her to like him so she would never turn on him the way her aunt had turned on his parents. Neville was sure that Asterope had her own reasons for befriending him, it was probably out of pity or guilt, either way if he got her on his side he thought he would be safe. He thought that when he told his grandmother, uncle, and godmother why he befriended the Malfoy girl they would be impressed by his cunning and daring plan. Only Asterope was nothing like he had planned, she was smart and nice, and she actually listened to him even when would go on and on about Herbology. Neville had never had a friend before, there weren't really many magical kids around and the few that were would just ignore him, even his cousins on the rare occasions they came back to the UK wouldn't play with him. And he swears he never intended for Asterope to be someone he thought of as a real friend but she became his first and most dearest friend. Asterope had gotten under his skin by Christmas holidays of first year, like a seed in dirt has buried herself in his rib cage and began blooming there, growing Neville into a person he never expected to become.
His family was less than thrilled when he came home for holidays only talking about Asterope. His grandmother wouldn't hear a word of it and strongly advised him to end the friendship, she was most disappointed when she came to pick him up for summer holidays and saw Asterope beaming as she handed Neville a Fanged Geranium as a parting gift. His uncle would slam his hand down on the table, cuff him over the head, call him a fool for even painting Asterope in a positive light. He had sworn to whip Neville with his belt if he didn't end the friendship with Asterope come summer holidays. Sure enough, when his uncle found out he stayed true to his word and even worse his uncle had destroyed the Fanged Geranium he had been gifted. The whipping, although he never spoke a word of it to anyone ──── no one ever listened to him anyway, made him think better of befriending Asterope no matter how kind she had been.
And so he decided he would end it come second year, he thought of sending a letter to do it but he thought that might be too cruel, so he told himself on September 1st of 1992 when they met up on the platform he would tell her that he didn't want to be her friend anymore. He thought of it all summer, so much so he was sure the Fanged Geranium ( which he had managed to barely save with help of an old family friend ) knew what he was set out to do as its' bites got more aggressive the more Neville thought of it. He thought of how proud his grandmother and uncle would be, he thought of how Asterope would surely cry, he thought that his parents would certainly be proud of him for getting the better of a Black because his uncle sure would. They'd finally be proud of him, he almost couldn't wait to do it. He had ignored her letters, he had ignored the guilt that came with ignoring the letters because he would finally make his family proud by doing this.
But then he ran into her in Diagon Alley. It was a hot August afternoon which he remembers all too well, she was so pleased to see him and she looked so different. Her long hair had been cut at her shoulders, it was a more vibrant blue, and she tells him she had disowned herself from her family. She tells him that her family was not pleased by her spending most of her first year with him and were discussing to marry her off to a proper pureblood when she finally snapped. He asks, bewildered, if she disowned herself just for him, she had blushed and shrugged. Asterope had said that she disowned herself for her own gain, it was something she had to do to be happy and free but he, in a way, had helped her come to this realization. And due to Asterope's words, Neville realized, that he wanted to be friends with her and it didn't matter what his family expected from him.
Asterope reintroduces herself as "Asterope Macleod-Black" and gives him a hearty handshake as she tells him that it's a pleasure to meet him as if this is the first time they've met and he knows that this is the right decision no matter what his grandmother might say or what his uncle might do. And he likes to tell himself that this decision would make his parents proud, even more so than the decision to put an end to their friendship.
He remembers all too well as she finished her new introduction that she asked him what he wanted to tell her, he had been so prepared to end things the second he spotted her blue mop of curls in the alley but she had beaten him to speaking first. And after she had her say, he had realized he didn't want to say what he originally planned to say and he remembers staring at her frozen for a moment and she looks at him with the greenest doe eyes and he lies. He lies terribly but she buys it because of course Neville would want to go to the new Herbology store that had just opened up, he totally did not want to ruin her entire day buy ending their friendship especially after everything she had just told him. To this day, he can still feel the warmth of her hand as she takes his in her own for the first time and without a groan or complaint tells him to lead the way to The Plantology.
And miles away, in the heart of the Hall Of Prophecies, a singular prophetic orb lights up with a brilliant flash as it becomes one step closer to being fulfilled. . .
OF COURSE BOTH ASTEROPE MACLEOD-BLACK AND NEVILLE LONGBOTTOM ARE ACUTELY AWARE OF HOW STRANGE THEIR FRIENDSHIP IS. They are both painstakingly aware of how strong yet still so fragile it is, both hiding their own motives for befriending the other ──── motives that would surely tear their friendship to shreds if discovered. Asterope had befriended Neville because she believed this was her chance to prove she wasn't like the rest of her family by protecting the soft-spoken boy from bullies. Neville had befriended Asterope to keep her on his side, make himself sympathetic to her in case she turned out to be as cruel as the rest of her family. Over the years it had become genuine friendship teetering on the edge of young love that had kept them together.
As their third year at Hogwarts comes to an end they both come to the terrifying realization that they may fancy the other which is definitely way more than either of them had bargained for when they became friends. How could they fancy the other when their friendship is built on lies? No, they couldn't let that happen so they each come to their own decision, without saying a single word to the other, to bury any feelings they have that aren't strictly platonic. Their friendship was far to fragile to start anything romantic. Asterope fancy Neville? Nope, never! Neville think it'd be cool to call Asterope is girlfriend? No way ──── besides, Asterope had just confided in him that they might not even want to be a girl. The only friend that Asterope is to him is his best friend! All the while Neville is vehemently denying any fancying of Asterope to his friends, Asterope is doing the exact same to their own friend group.
As the two teens worry about how exactly fragile their friendship is, worry about possibly fancying the other, they are so blissfully unaware of the prophecy. The prophecy that spoke of their bond. A bond, ironically enough, so strong it could possibly help save the wizarding world. Of course, they were totally oblivious to this prophecy because their respective parents had given their lives, each in their own way, to protect the two children from ever having to fulfill the prophecy let own even hear about it.
A prophecy which is on its' way to becoming fulfilled as rat returns to its' master. As the pieces fall into place to resurrect Lord Voldemort, the prophecy of star-crossed lovers glows brighter and brighter in the belly of the Hall of Prophecies. . . .

?.ೃ࿐ i. AUTHOR'S NOTE pt. II ⸺ SOME NOTES TO KEEP IN MIND FOR THIS STORY extremely NOT canon compliant, including Cho Chang not being named Cho Chang but instead 'Zhou Meilin', as well as good!Bellatrix Lestrange or rather morally grey Bellatrix, Voldemort having a wife (no, Voldemort cannot feel love it was more of they married for the power they gave one another) tons of Dumbledore bashing (kind of?), he's extremely manipulative but NOT evil, he just does morally questionable things to achieve good outcomes. And at times it might seem like there is Molly Weasley bashing but I promise it is NOT it's just Molly having flaws and not getting along with certain characters, same goes with Harry, I love him and he's a great character and person but this is told through someone else's eyes and they have a few bones to pick with Harry but that doesn't mean Harry is going to be Bad (insert TM symbol) it's just that Aurelia is very biased, in a way that's similar to Draco, when it comes to Harry. They've got a friends to enemies/frenimies to friends thing going on and I really wish Aurelia would get over themself so they could be friends but alas that won't happen until like halfway through part two. Also definitely Severus Snape bashing because he deserves it.
ALSO Harry has major bisexual energy and it will be addressed! There is background Draco/Harry this is my first time writing for drarry even though they're not huge part of this story, e.i they don't have a lot of moments together as a couple in the first half of so much for stardust but their relationship is very much a thing that WILL happen in part two. BUT for book one aurelia will definitely be picking up on their enemies to lovers vibes and being thoroughly invested in it. also background Ginny/Luna and while it's also a background pairing they definitely go on double dates with Aurelia and Neville! Another background pairing is Remus/Sirius/OFC which is already established and will in a sense be another set of parents to aurelia! There are a few other relationships mentioned that are background as well such as Cedric Diggory/OMC, and Fred Weasley/OFC, past!Tom Riddle/OFC, Pansy Parkinson/OFC, Nymphadora Tonks/OFC, eventual George Weasley/Zhou Meilin (cho chang), and Bellatrix Lestrange/OFC!
I've taken a lot of creative liberties with the Wizarding World and stripped a lot of the canon rules because a lot of them are rooted in bigotry because of the jkr. So if you see something in this book or any books connected to this one that contradicts something in canon it more than likely is meant to because I am trying my best to fix it. One big example is Hermione trying to free the House-Elves, instead of most people thinking she's crazy for doing so, they'll be very understanding of it but the problem they'll have is her 'extreme' way of going about it. Which isn't really extreme because it is slavery and she should be speaking up about it, but I do feel as though most characters especially the Weasleys & other purebloods would find that doing something about House-Elves would be useless at this point because they're so used to the practice. HOWEVER no one is gonna make fun of her for trying to stop slavery because what was up with that? Ron will definitely tease her about being obsessed with House-Elves but not what she's trying to do for them, although he won't really understand why. He'll just find her sudden obsession with House-Elves funny and tease-able but god help whoever else does make fun of Hermione for it.
ALSO a less pressing issue is the 'The Prank Incident' from the Marauders era didn't happen the way it did in canon, it's still very similar however the intentions of the prank were different it'll be explained in more detail through out the book. There are several other creative liberties I've taken with the lore of the harry potter books but these are the most prevalent ones in the plot of the first book that I feel like I should explain beforehand.
The main oc Aurelia is gender-fluid HOWEVER for most of the this book Aurelia is written with she/her/ with a mix of they/them pronouns because they're still coming to terms with their identity especially in this first book here. Nymphadora is also gender-fluid and doesn't have any preferred pronouns, she just tells people to use whatever pronouns they think fit their appearance, so often times Nymphadora will be written with different pronouns.
As well, Aurelia is implied/supposed to be very magically powerful a lot but is NOT capable of being magically powerful, they failed the expectations of being powerful set up for them. They have the potential to be very magically powerful but they need lots of training to get to that point. So a lot of adults will say they're extremely powerful but in reality Harry Potter could wipe the floor with them at any given moment. I don't see why it's so bad to have a magically powerful character if they've been given the proper training but apparently quite a few people have problems with that so just a minor warning I guess.
