Hello Everyone! I am going to be writing a "Hunger Games" story for you. I have no idea how long it will take me to write this or how the story will go but I guess we will just see where the muse takes us. This is built on the idea that rather then tributes being reaped from previous victors for the 2nd quarter quell they are reaped from the family members of victors. This is said to be a reminder to districts of how capitol families were ripped from each other during the rebellion. Hope you enjoy

I OWN NOTHING Suzanne Collins does!

"As always, LADIES First" Tirilled Effie Trinket. Rather then the large reaping ball that usually stood on the on the small table there was a brushed silver plate that effie had brought with her from the capitol. on the plate set one piece of paper. I wasn't sure why all the pomp and circumstance was needed. I already knew who the tribute would be. Everyone in the district already knew who the female tribute would be and were already turning to look sadly at my little sister who was being held closely by my mother. This was punishment, we all knew it. This was punishment for my "stunt" in the arena the previous year with the berries. Haymitch had said to me on my first ride to the capitol that "You never get off this train" now I finally knew what that met. The punishment would never end. Not for me. Not for my family. Not for anyone in my district.

I stepped forward as Effie picked up the paper and opened the seal "Primrose Everdeen" she projected into the microphone. Even though I was expecting it a bolt of fear mixed with anger flew thew me. I wanted to strangle Effie for saying her name, I wanted to strangle the peace keepers that surrounded her as I she walked forward. She looked stoick on the outside but I could see how nervous she was, how dry her lips were. She climbed the stairs and took her place between myself and Haymitch on the stage. It had been decided that since there were now 3 living victors from district 12 that I would mentor the female and Haymitch, the man who had won the 50th hunger games and mentored Peeta and myself to victory last year would be the male tributes mentor. I was glad, Haymitch may have been a drunk and at times an arrogant ass, but at least he knew what he was doing when it came to recruiting sponsors and working with tributes. I saw Haymitch place his hand protectively on Prim's shoulder, a soft, "Im sorry" that I wouldn't have even seen if I hadn't looked at exactly that moment. Yes, I was grateful for Haymitch.

Effie turned to make sure that Prim was settled between Haymitch and I. "Alright then" she said as she walked over to a second silver plate "Now for the boys" There were 3 small pieces of paper on the boys plate. Two belonged to Peeta's brothers. Miller who was already 18, he was technically past reaping age, however the capitol had made an exception for these games. and Barley a year younger then Prim who had just turned 12 the previous month, just old enough for reaping. There was also a third slp of paper, Cub Abernathy. He was Haymitch's 2nd cousin. I imagined that President Snow had needed to do a bit of thinking to make sure that all victor's families were represented since he had killed off all of Haymitch's family several years previously for Haymitch "Outsmarting" the capitol during his games. I grimissed slightly at the thought, truly no one was safe.

While I had been musing Effie had picked up one of the folded slips of paper and was trotting back to the microphone. She was not as enthusiastic this year as she had been in years past, a small favor that I was grateful for I looked down at the three boys who were positioned in the front row, holding their breath. "Barley Mellark!" She said loudly.

"No, I thought no anyone but him...he's so young, so small and wiry. I looked down at the other two boys even Peeta, who I knew couldn't. Someone volunteer as tribute, I almost said aloud. I saw Haymitch looking expectantly at Cub. The little boy started to move and climb the stairs. No one spoke.

"Any volunteers?" Effie asked. no one spoke. I knew why Cub wouldn't volunteer, he worked in the mines along side my friend Gale, he had his mom and several younger siblings to care for, if something happened to him their would be no money coming in and the other kids in the family would starve. I knew Haymitch sent his cousin, Hannah enough money every month that she and her children did not need to take out tessary. I knew Haymitch couldn't send much because if anyone found out that they were his family they would be in danger of situations like this. Well I guess, that would be over now. Now that they knew he had some family left.

But why didn't Miller? He was a strong, stalky, blonde boy much like Peeta. He would do much better in the arena then poor Barley. I looked down at him and saw one foot begin to move forward. Just then a saw the Mellark's mother move her arm that was closest to her son's shoulder and he stepped back. Understanding washed over me, Miller had alway been their mother's favorite he received much better treatment and far less beatings then his brothers. Little Barley was expendable.

"No?" Effie questioned, not knowing the whole story. "Alright then."

she stepped over between Prim and myself and Haymitch and Barley who were standing like frightened deer. "Shake hands you two."she said cheerfully Barley extended his small shaking hand to my sister who took it carefully and gave it a gentle squeeze.

"And there you have it! This year's tributes from district 12!" Effie shouted as if she expected tremendous apalase . I locked eyes with Peeta who looked as though he was going to be sick. Then over to my mother who had lowered her head, her arms were braced around her middle as though she was about to fall. I saw Hazelle and Gale gasp on to each of her arms, effectively holding her upright even if she were to pass out.

Then the peace keepers came, grabbing my arm in one hand and my sister's in the other rushing us into the city center building. The same room with the polished wood from they previous year. It was time for my family to say good bye.

Thanks for reading! I am making it a goal to do one chapter a day. We will see if that works! Please read and review
