Through the halls of the castle, Sonic made his way back to the room where he left Amy, Sonia and his friends. As he walked, the hedgehog still felt a bit unsure. "Hope I didn't make things too awkward. I don't want Sonia worrying about me." Sonic shook it off, "Why am I worrying? Sonia's a smart girl, just like her mother. She knows not to worry too much about her old man."

As he passed through the halls, he heard a familiar voice call to him, "Sonic?"

"Huh?" Sonic turned to see that Nicole had taken her Lynx form. "Oh, hey Nicole, how's it going?"

"Going well," Nicole said, a soft glare aimed at the hedgehog. "So, how does it feel being back in this castle?"

"Oh it's...alright," Sonic said. "Looks just the way I left it."

"Right, of course," Nicole said, stepping toward her old teammate. "Seems like your return has caused quite the commotion among The Freedom Fighters."

"Yeah, some are quite surprised to see me," Sonic said, trying not to look directly at Nicole. "For better or worse. Seems like Fiona is her typical ray of sunshine."

"Uh-huh, and I trust you understand why," Nicole said.

"Let me guess, it has to do with Sally?" Sonic asked.

"I'm not going to delve into what happened between you two, what's done is done after all," Nicole said, a hint of sadness in her voice. "However, your very presence comes with a heavier burden than you might realize."

"And what would that be?" Sonic asked.

"For years, the Freedom Fighters have done what we could to keep Mobotroplis safe, between Sally's planning, my hard-drive, Bunnie's muscle, Whisper's skills, and all other contributions," Nicole said. "Many of us work hard to be a symbol of hope for the citizens in town, so that no matter what happens, they know they're safe, because we're here to protect them."

"That's great, you're basically like The Avengers," Sonic said, offering a thumbs up. "I respect that."

"While I appreciate the comparison, clearly it means nothing in the face of our citizens," Nicole said. "Because no matter what any of us do, The Freedom Fighters are never enough to appease the worry of the masses. No matter what Sally does to ensure everyone's safety, there is a surprising lack of respect among everyone."

"Really? Since when?" Sonic asked.

"Since always, Sonic," Nicole said, the girl getting notably irritable. "You know how the citizens in this town can be. Especially toward us, and me."

"Uh, is this still about the fact that you were part of this city's grid and monitoring everyone?" Sonic asked.

"Everyone acted like I was invading their privacy when all I was doing was trying to keep them safe!" Nicole said. "People still don't trust me despite all I've done. But that's fine, I'm not in this for the glory, I'm in this for Sally. If she needs me to do something for her, I will gladly do it. She is everything to me after all."

"Well yeah, you're practically her best friend," Sonic said.

"Practically? She is my best friend! More than that, she's my family! She is one of the only people in the world who talks to me like a normal person," Nicole said. "You know who else does? Your son, Manik. I'm not some AI to him, I'm his Auntie Nicole. That's why I do what I do, for the sake of those I consider my family!"

"That's great..." Sonic said, unsure what else to say.

"You know what's tough, Sonic?" Nicole asked. "I have done what I could to smile and be happy for Manik, because I truly want him to overcome his anger and bitterness toward you. I smile when I talk about you, I act like you're worth respecting because above all, Sally wants the son you two had together to show you respect."

"Uh, okay?" Sonic said. "I'm sorry to ask, but where are you going with this?"

"…You infuriate me," Nicole confessed. "Because no matter how hard I've even tried to convince myself, in the end, you're just the cause for a lot of headache and heartache!"

"How exactly?" Sonic asked.

"We in The Freedom Fighters work hard, and guess what?" Nicole said. "The one who is expected to save us all, isn't Sally or her team, it's you."

"Me?" Sonic asked.

"Yes, you Sonic are quite the talk among the town," Nicole said. "A handful of citizens still think you were a fool to leave Sally, many of them had not so nice things to say about you. But not all the blame was directed your way, some had the nerve to say Sally did a poor job of holding onto you. Because apparently, despite how everyone feels, they know they can't exist without you around. All that sympathy for Sally turned to bitterness as she lost the hero who was supposed to keep us all safe!"

"Hey, I'm here, aren't I?" Sonic asked.

"Yes! That's the problem! None of us went to get you because of the citizens, but because even within our ranks, you were the first one on their mind when it came to stopping Robotnik," Nicole said. "Not Bunnie, not Mina, they expect you. Even I'm not enough apparently, and I dare say it, I am much more advanced than a lot of his robots and artificial intelligence. Especially that brat Sage."

"You sure are," Sonic nervously said. "So...is there anything else?"

"There's a lot I can tell you, Sonic," Nicole said, getting in his face. "It sickens me too. For the longest time I've admired you. You were my hero. I even admit, you helped make me into who I am today. No longer just some computer, but an actual Mobian. You and Sally were the only ones I felt such a close and special bond with. The day you two got married was a wonderful day in my mind, because more than anything, I believed you two were so compatible with each other. You were everything she needed in a guy, but I guess she just wasn't the girl for you, was she?"

"It's nothing personal," Sonic said.

"Oh yeah, breaking someone's heart is never personal, is it?" Nicole asked. "Even I understand Sally's feelings better than you do apparently, guess I've surpassed even you when it comes to emotions. So imagine the pain I feel for Sally when I have to see her in the state she's in, same with her son. Can you imagine how either of them feel now? While you're all gallivanting they're here struggling! I can't stand seeing two people that I love in such a situation!"

"Nicole, please," Sonic said. "You know I would never hurt Sally or Manik."

"Would you? Would you really, Sonic!?" Nicole shouted. "Maybe if you were around more to see how Sally handles this, then-"

"Nicole!" Sally called, getting the attention of the Holo-Lynx. "What are you doing?"

"Oh, um, hi Sally," Nicole said, clearing her throat. "I was just having a conversation with Sonic."

"Geez, is that what that was?" Sonic wondered to himself.

"Right...look, I need to have a word with you and the others, we just found out some troubling information," Sally said. "Sage and Metal Sonic were spotted not too far away."

"Oh, is that all? You know I can handle Sage. Metal might be tough though," Nicole gestured behind herself. "But I bet a certain someone here can make himself useful."

"Uh, right," Sally said, fully aware of Nicole's harsh tone. "It's not just them though, Scourge and Surge were spotted with the two."

"Wait, they're working with Eggman?" Sonic asked.

"Yes, if Scourge is there, the Suppression Squad might be too, or the Destructix," Sally said. "Fiona doubts the Destructix would team with Eggman however, still I'd rather be prepared for that possibility."

"Well no one's seen the Destructix in how long now?" Sonic asked.

"It has been awhile, I admit," Sally said. "Also, with Surge being around, that means Kit might be with her since they're practically inseparable."

"I'm surprised Surge would work for Eggman, he and Starline are the reason she and Kit are in their position," Sonic said. "Girl hates me and doesn't even know why, even after all these years."

"Even so, the best thing to do is prepare for that assault," Sally said. "Myself and The Freedom Fighters shouldn't have too much trouble planning for Surge, but I am counting on you to take on Scourge, Sonic."

"You seem confident when it comes to Surge," Sonic said. "Be careful with her, she's not exactly a pushover."

"I think Sally and The Freedom Fighters can handle it, Sonic," Nicole scolded. "You just focus on your own task."

"Well try running some calculations for Sally at least," Sonic said.

"I'll keep that in mind, Sonic," Nicole said, glaring right through the hedgehog she once called a friend. "Sally and I need to make plans, you can go back to doing whatever it is you were doing."

"Sure, alright," Sonic said, making his exit. "Geez, it's like my Hate Club is gathered. But it's mostly just Fiona, and Nicole. Probably Lanolin too. I'll make the best of it."

As Sonic left, Nicole turned her attention to Sally, "So, shall we call the others?"

"First thing's first," Sally began, focused sternly on her friend. "Care to explain what was just happening between you and Sonic?"

"Oh, well like I said, we were just talking," Nicole said.

"Uh-huh, Nicole, I could hear you yelling from down the hall," Sally said. "You weren't exactly quiet just now. You were bringing up my marriage to him, weren't you?"

"I..." Nicole knew she couldn't talk her way out of this. Sally knows her too well and she just couldn't bring herself to even seriously consider lying to her friend. "Yes, I suppose I did lash out."

"Ugh, why though?" Sally asked.

"Because I'm angry!" Nicole explained, trying her best not to snap too much. "I'm angry because he left you and Manik! Furthermore I'm angry that he's still considered a big hero despite all the drama surrounding him! It's a terrible relationship to have. Relying on someone who in the end will just end up hurting you! Aren't you heartbroken every time you see him? Especially with...that pink, airheaded hedgehog!?"

"Nicole!" Sally scolded. "You know I don't like it when someone says something terrible about Amy."

"But she took Sonic from you!" Nicole said.

"Amy's like a sister to me," Sally said. "She wouldn't-"

"SHE'S like a sister!?" Nicole shouted. "Sally, I'M your sister! I care about you much more than Sonic or Amy ever could!"

"Nicole, please lower your voice," Sally ordered.

Reluctantly, Nicole did her best to drop the anger, "I'm sorry for yelling, but I just feel like you're letting yourself get hurt. I know we think we need Sonic, but there has to be some other way."

"Well, run some calculations then. Show me something that says we can handle Robotnik, Nagus, Scourge and Surge without Sonic," Sally said. "Furthermore, including their allies and potential allies, see how well we do without Sonic around."

"...I don't need to, because I already know the answer," Nicole said. "Robotnik is just too much for us."

"Like it or not, if it weren't for Sonic, we'd be done for," Sally said. "I know we have Bunnie, Mina, The Chaotix, as well as Mighty and Ray, but none of them have really surpassed Sonic in his power, speed or skill."

"Well...what about Tails?" Nicole asked. "He's really improved over the years. His speed can rival that of Sonic, he's got the intelligence needed to combat Robotnik and he's strong. Not as strong as Knuckles but his power is nothing to scoff at."

"I'm fully aware of what Tails can do," Sally said.

"Then focus on his help!" Nicole said. "I guarantee he can garner the same results."

"Nicole, with Tails usually comes Sonic," Sally said.

"Tails is his own man! He's a capable fighter and an effective hero!" Nicole said. "Consider all he's done on his own too!"

"Even so, I just wouldn't feel right asking Tails to handle something so dangerous," Sally said. "Plus, while he's a smart boy, he doesn't have that leadership charisma that Sonic possesses. Sonic's just naturally good at rallying others, Tails is sweet but he's not much for talking."

"Personally, I think he's very good at talking, he's got that charm to him," Nicole said.

"Yes, it's called being cute and adorable," Sally said. "I just can't send him out there alone, I'd rather Sonic be there too."

Nicole huffed in annoyance, "What a bother."

"I appreciate that you're looking out for me," Sally said, placing her hand on her friend's shoulder. "But I can handle any personal grief. Besides, it's not all bad. With Sonic usually comes Sonia."

"Yes, you love her a lot, understandably so," Nicole said. "I've noticed that she's usually very delighted to see you as well."

"It makes me happy, and it's a big reason I will put up with my grief," Sally said. "More than anything, I want to ensure that she grows up happy in this world, that's why we need to work things out with those we might feel at odds toward, to create a better future for everyone to be happy. Especially a little girl like Sonia."

The anger that once emanated in Nicole slowly turned to admiration toward the Queen she loved and respected. "You're an amazing woman Sally, I feel honored that you were the one I was given to so long ago."

"I didn't know what to expect, my father just wanted me to have a virtual assistant, but I got something better," Sally said. "A sister to call my own."

Nicole's eyes began to water from the sheer joy, "I love you, Sally."

"I love you too," Sally said, giving a quick hug to the Holo-Lynx, which the girl returned. It was always an unusual feeling due to Nicole's artificial and sometimes non-existent body, but the two make it work. Upon breaking off, Sally gestured to the throne room. "Come on, let's get to planning."

"Right behind you, sis," Nicole said, the two girls giggling afterwards as they left.

In the leisure room, Sonia was still waiting for her father to return. "Is daddy going to be alright?"

"He'll be fine, sweetheart," Amy reassured. "Your daddy just doesn't like confrontation."

"But he always butts heads with Uncle Knuckles," Sonia said.

"Well sometimes Uncle Knuckles can take things a bit too far," Amy said.

"Hey!" Knuckles said, then heard the door open.

"I'm back," Sonic said, taking a seat next to his wife, still looking a bit irritated. "So, where were we?"

"Uh, is everything alright?" Amy asked. "You still look a bit heated."

"I just had a 'pleasant' conversation with Nicole," Sonic said, much to Bunnie's worry.

"Figures," Bunnie said. "Sally has a lot of people who are quick to sympathize with her, but Nicole is something else. She is to Sally what Tails is to Sonic."

"I can empathize with Nicole," Tails said. "Not that I condone her likely having gotten heated with Sonic."

"It's fine, she said what she needed to say, let's just move on," Sonic said.

"Alright, if that's what you want," Amy said, figuring it would be easier to keep going. "So, where were we?"

Seventeen years prior, Eggman was busy trying to get the Eclipse Cannon to work, however the danger sign was getting worse as he desperately tried to figure it out.

"Oh come on! Why won't the cannon fire!?" Eggman shouted, trying to get the device back to normal.

"Did you try pressing ctrl, alt, delete?" Bokkun asked.

"Not now, Bokkun! I need...huh?" Eggman noticed an image of a man on screen. "It's my grandfather, Gerald Robotnik!"

"Your grandfather?" Bokkun asked. "What does this mean?"

"I suppose we're about to find out," Eggman said.

In another room, Sonic, Knuckles, Johnny and Rainbow Dash had felt a shake, unaware of what might be happening.

"Something's strange is going on!" Knuckles noticed. "What's that vibration!?"

"Really don't like the idea of something in space shaking like this!" Rainbow Dash commented.

"I've had worse, did I ever tell you about the time my family flew through a cosmic cloud?" Johnny asked.

"Only a million times," Rainbow Dash said. "And people say I tell the Rainboom story too much."

"What are either of you talking about at a time like this!?" Knuckles asked.

"Hey wait, someone's coming!" Sonic noticed.

Landing nearby was Rouge the Bat, taking the four by surprise.

"It's that bat girl," Johnny said.

"Ugh, haven't you given up by now?" Knuckles asked.

Rouge however didn't seem to be in her usual good mood, rather she seemed distressed. "I'm afraid it's all over for us."

"What does that mean?" Knuckles asked.

"I just received a message from my partner Topaz, she said The Space Colony ARK is approaching Earth at an incredible velocity," Rouge said. "At this rate, it will likely impact the planet."

"It's gonna, what!?" Rainbow Dash asked.

"Wait, who's Topaz?" Johnny asked. "Is she with Eggman?"

"No, she's with G.U.N." Rouge said.

"G.U.N., wait, aren't you working for Eggman?" Rainbow Dash asked.

"It's a long story but...huh?" Rouge gestured to an image on the screen.

"What's that on the screen?" Knuckles asked.

Gerald Robotnik's screen not only took over all of the ARK, but appeared on several screens on Earth, from Times Square as viewed by the Heroes for Hire, to San Francisco viewed by Topaz and Fury, to Doomstadt viewed by Doctor Doom, to Wood Oak City viewed by the vigilante cop trio, Station Square by Chris Thorndyke and Japan, viewed by the Graffiti Gang in the streets, Akira Yuki in his Dojo, as well as a somber Ryo in his home with Nozomi and Cream.

"This is a forewarning of death to all you humans on Earth," Gerald said. "If my calculations are correct, the Space Colony ARK will impact the Earth in twenty-seven minutes and fifty-three seconds. All of you will perish! You and your planet!"

Other cities such as Paris, Mumbai and Cairo had noticed the trouble, many worried for their lives.

"Wait, this thing really is crashing towards Earth?" Johnny asked, looking outside a window. "Crap...I really am going to die in space."

"Johnny! Stop saying that!" Rainbow Dash scolded. "Ugh, is there a way to stop it!?"

"I can't say for sure," Rouge said, then noticed others entering the room. "Looks like your friends are here."

"Sonic!" Amy ran over to hug the hedgehog, crushing him tightly as tears flowed from her eyes. "I'm so glad you're alive! I thought I would never see you again!"

"Amy! Come on!" Sonic said, nervously trying to pry himself away. "I'm fine, please let go."

"Of course..." Rainbow Dash said, rolling her eyes.

"I can't believe I almost lost you, but I knew you'd find a way to make it back, you always do!" Amy said, hugging tighter.

"Amy, please. I appreciate that you were worried but now really isn't the time for this," Sonic said, still trying to pry himself off.

"Kid, dial it back," Johnny said. "We've got bigger problems right now."

Eventually Sonic was able to break free, taking a moment to catch his breath when he noticed Sally glancing his way. "Oh, hey Sally."

The chipmunk pouted in annoyance, "Once again, all you do is worry me. I really thought you were gone Sonic, I was so frightened!"

"I'm really sorry about that, Sally," Sonic said.

"Why are you apologizing? Not like you wanted to be trapped by Eggman," Peter said.

"Did you of all people ask why someone is apologizing for actions they had no part in?" Tony asked.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Peter asked. "Point is that Sonic was caught in a trap, but he's fine, no need for regrets."

"Probably should try your own advice sometime, Spidey," Rainbow Dash thought to herself.

"I'm just glad you're okay," Tails said, taking note of the screen. "But, what's going on? Who is that old guy?

"I will give you all a taste of my revenge, once all the seven Chaos Emeralds are collected," Gerald's video continued. "Once this program is enabled, it cannot be undone. All you ungrateful humans, who took everything from me, will feel my loss and despair."

"Is there anything else you want to say?" a voice asked.

"No," Gerald replied.

"Ready!" All that was heard afterward was a barrage of gunshots, this startling everyone watching.

"Holy shit..." Johnny said. "That's just..."

"Who is that guy anyway?" Amy asked.

"And how does he know about the Chaos Emeralds?" Peter asked.

"I can answer that," Eggman said, coming into the room with his robots, each of them having been freed from the capsule Sally placed them in.

"Already back on your feet? You're pretty persistent, aren't you?" Peter asked.

"Robotnik, what's going on? Who is that guy?" Sally asked.

"That, Princess Sally, is Professor Gerald Robotnik, one of the greatest scientific minds in the world. He is also my grandfather," Eggman said.

"So you are behind this then. Stop this right now, or else!" Knuckles warned.

"Hey, Doctor Eggman didn't send this thing crashing to Earth!" Bokkun said.

"It's true, he may be trying to conquer the planet, but he can't if it blows up," Scratch said. "That's just counterproductive."

"Still, isn't there a way you can stop this thing?" Peter asked.

"I would if I were able to," Eggman said.

"What does that mean?" Sonic asked, Eggman finally noticing him.

"You're pretty persistent, I'm amazed you're even still alive," Eggman said.

"Please, I had a closer scare with Knuckles piloting the ship on the way over here," Sonic said, much to Knuckles's annoyance.

"How does your grandfather know about The Chaos Emeralds? Are they originally from Earth?" Sally asked.

"That's impossible, they're connected to The Master Emerald," Knuckles said. "And The Master Emerald has been part of the Echidna tribe for generations."

"That still doesn't explain how Robotnik's grandfather knew about the Chaos Emeralds," Sally said. "Even I didn't know about them for a long time. I only knew of the Master Emerald because of something my father once said about Angel Island."

"None of us knew about the Chaos Emeralds," Rotor said. "Even if someone heard about them, it was treated more like a myth than reality."

"So what's the story, Doc?" Peter asked. "How did your grandpa know about something Mobian related?"

"My grandfather went to Mobius, years before I was even born," Eggman said. "He's done a lot of research on the planet and of its culture. That's how I learned of Mobius and why I went there with that nephew of mine, many years ago."

"Eggman has a nephew?" Amy asked.

"His name's Snivley, I haven't seen him in years however," Eggman said.

"Rotor and I have," Sally said, gesturing to the Walrus. "He's tried taking over Mobotropolis and failed. Just like you have."

"Please, if I wanted to go for your Kingdom again, I would have done it, but I've set my eyes on something bigger," Eggman said.

"Still...I never heard of another human from Earth on Mobius prior to you and Snivley," Sally said, checking her watch. "Nicole, do you have anything on Gerald Robotnik?"

"Negative Sally," Nicole said.

"To be fair, even your father seemed unaware of my Grandfather's arrival when I first met him," Eggman said, then pulled out a disk. "Still, if you want to know more about my grandfather, put this in."

"Allow me," Rouge said, taking the disk and placing it inside a machine.

"Who is that if I may ask?" Sally asked, gesturing to Rouge. "She's not one of your friends, is she Sonic?"

"I've never met her before," Sonic said. "I think she warped here on her own, just like Big did."

"My name's Rouge. I ended up not too far from the town of San Francisco a few weeks back. You were the talk of G.U.N., Sonic," Rouge said. "You and all of your friends."

"So, they've always had their eyes on me," Sonic said.

"So did S.H.I.E.L.D.," Tony said.

"They're not going to be trouble, are they?" Peter asked.

"According to Topaz, Nick Fury might be eager to pay us a visit," Rouge said.

"Don't worry, after today I'll keep him distracted if I can," Tony said. "Assuming we stop this ARK."

"We will," Peter said. "Anyway, Rouge was it? Mind playing that diary?"

"Sure thing, handsome," Rouge said, activating the diary as it popped up on screen.

Peter turned to Johnny, "Was a bat just flirting with me?"

"Hey she has boobs, you should consider yourself lucky," Johnny said.

"You know I can hear you, right?" Rouge said, gesturing to her ears.

"Uh...on Earth that is considered a great compliment," Johnny insisted.

"Wow, nice cover Torch," Jacky joked, then focused on the machine. "Is that diary in?"

"Yes, I'm activating it now," Rouge said, pressing a button.

"Time for some answers," Sally said.

Rouge began reading the diary, "I don't know what happened or what went wrong. Was it a mistake to create the Ultimate Lifeform? I thought it could benefit mankind, but then the military guards landed on the colony that day. They were sent to destroy the research project that I had been working on. My colleagues at the facility, my granddaughter Maria, I hope you are all safe."

"Maria?" Sally turned to Eggman. "Is she your sister?"

"My cousin actually," Eggman said. "I was never close with her however, she's lived here her whole life due to her being born with a poor immunity system."

"Oh, I see," Sally turned to Rouge. "Sorry for interrupting, mind continuing?"

"Sure thing, Princess," Rouge focused back on the diary. "The colony was shut down, likely to keep the prototype from falling into the wrong hands. The ARK's closure was explained due to an accident, or so G.U.N. said. I found Maria's name among those who died when the ARK was shut down." Rouge felt a moment of sympathy, thinking about Shadow for a second before continuing on, "She meant everything to me, I couldn't bear the thought that something so terrible happened to her because of my research."

"This is some shady stuff," Johnny said.

"Seems like it so far," Peter said.

Rouge continued reading the passage, "I lost everything, and had nothing more to live for. My mind was driven into insanity. All I could think about was getting revenge, in any way I can. I feared my lack of control when it came to my thoughts, all I wanted was for it all to end. Based on my projections, I was able to complete my project, Shadow. The design was inspired after a trip to a planet called Mobius many decades ago. I want its mind to be perfect and pure. I will leave everything to him. If you wish to release it, awaken it to fill the world with destruction."

"Wow...that's heavy," Johnny said.

Rouge turned to Eggman, "So that's why you released Shadow from the base."

"You planned to unleash your grandfather's twisted plan onto this planet!?" Sally said. "Were you going to do the same to Mobius as well!?"

"If I'm being honest, yes," Eggman said.

"Sometimes you just go too far, after Chaos you'd think you'd know not to mess with stuff like this," Sally said.

"I am willing to take a few risks," Eggman said. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained."

"I'm still registering what happened here," Peter said. "Those people that died, was really because of G.U.N.?"

"Sounds like it," Jacky said.

"Eggman, your cousin Maria," Peter began. "How old was she when she died?"

"I don't remember the exact age, but she was barely older than Amy here," Eggman said.

"Me?" Amy asked.

"...Oh God," Peter lamented, waves of sympathy passing through his being. "They must have been as terrible of a person as you then, Eggman."

"That was needlessly harsh," Eggman said.

"You threatened to do the same thing to Amy," Peter said, kneeling by her side and placing his hand on her head. "The fact that you could endanger a sweet little girl like this...ugh, people like you just piss me off!"

"Oh cry me a river," Eggman said, brushing it off.

Peter angrily stood up, marching toward Eggman, "How about I crack you like the egg you are!?"

"Peter!" Tony stood in his path. "Control yourself!"

"Move it, Stark!" Peter shouted, trying to get by.

"Peter, I know you're mad, but don't act out in anger!" Tony warned. "It's not worth it. We'll deal with Eggman later but we need to prioritize our current situation."

"...Okay fine," Peter said, the boy turning away in frustration. "This isn't over though!"

"Peter's got a point, Eggman crossed a line taking Amy hostage like he did," Johnny said. "But, given that G.U.N. raided this place and killed everyone here, including that young girl, wouldn't they be just as bad as that old guy?"

"Well he is trying to destroy the planet, which is technically worse, but I see what you mean," Tony said. "What these people did to this place was terrible."

"Maybe it was an accident?" Grounder suggested.

"Don't say stupid things," Sally said. "This was just plain cruelty."

"Just can't trust the government," Jacky said.

"I'll be sure to give them a piece of my mind, but what about the situation here?" Tony asked. "We need to find a way to stop this place from crashing."

"Or we can direct it into the ocean or something," Rainbow Dash suggested, earning an eyebrow raise from Sonic. "This place isn't that big, how is it going to destroy the planet!?"

"The core of the Eclipse Cannon is now highly reactive and explosive," Eggman said. "That is because the Chaos Emeralds are overpowered. If the Colony collides with The Earth, it will shatter into pieces, just like my grandfather predicted. The mad scientist."

"You're one to talk," Amy said.

"Guess you made your grandpa proud," Sally commented.

"We need to stop the space colony," Tails said. "First, we got to figure out how."

"The ARK shifted due to the energy from the Chaos Emeralds," Eggman said. "If you want to stop the ARK, you need to cut off the energy supply."

"How are we going to pull that off?" Johnny asked. "Tails, you did research on these emeralds, any ideas?"

"I have some theories," Tails said.

"If I may start with one of my own," Rouge interjected. "Knuckles, didn't you say the Master Emerald controls the Chaos Emeralds?"

Knuckles's eyes widened in realization, "That's right, the Master Emerald can stop the Chaos Emeralds!"

"Wow, lucky you for finding the pieces out in space just in time," Rainbow Dash said.

"Well I helped a little," Rouge said.

"The reaction of the Chaos Emeralds is moving toward the cannon's core," Tails noted. "It might be too late to do anything."

"Geez Prower, try being a bit optimistic here," Rainbow Dash said. "Sonic and I are two of the fastest creatures alive, we totally got this!"

"Can you do everything alone?" Tony asked.

"Do not worry, there may be enough time for all of us to do something," Eggman said. "If we pull together, we just might get to the shortcut that leads to the core."

"Whoa, hold on, you want us to work with you?" Sally asked. "How do we know you won't betray us?"

"For starters, I'd rather not die here," Eggman said. "Second, if the Earth is destroyed, what will I have to rule?"

"He's got a point," Johnny said. "Even Doctor Doom would save this planet if it meant he could conquer it."

"Who's Doctor Doom, exactly?" Sally asked.

"That's not important right now," Peter said. "Look, I know Eggman is an enemy, and I still want to really clobber the old geezer."

"I'm not that old!" Eggman said.

Peter rolled his eyes and continued, "But in times like these, we kind of have to put our differences aside."

"Peter's right," Amy said. "If everyone works together, we'll be able to save the world."

Sally turned her attention to the blue hedgehog, "Well Sonic? Ready to be the hero again?"

"Not sure if I would call myself a hero," Sonic said, the hedgehog pumping himself up. "But I won't lose when it comes to running."

"Damn right, we totally got this," Rainbow Dash said.

"Let's get started then!" Eggman ordered. "Here's how we'll go, Tails, you-"

"Hey, who put you in charge!?" Sally asked.

"Oh I'm sorry, are you an expert on how to navigate the ARK, Princess?" Eggman asked.

"I...well I have Nicole," Sally said. "She might know something about this place."

"I have no information, Sally," Nicole said, much to the Princess's annoyance.

"Sally, I know you don't trust him, but it might be a better idea to just go along with things," Sonic said. "Eggman's a sneak but I don't think he has any reason to betray us, and we're going to have to cooperate."

"For once, I agree with you, Sonic," Eggman said.

"...Ugh, to think I would have to take orders from Eggman, it's the very thing I fought against," Sally said.

"Think of it as doing what you must to save the world," Peter said, turning to Eggman. "Alright Doc, if you got something to say, then spit it out."

"As I was saying, Tails, you need to use that fancy mech of yours to destroy the security door heading to the cannon's core," Eggman said.

"Okay," Tails said.

"I will be going with him," Sally said.

"Fine by me. I will do the same in another part of the ARK," Eggman said. "Rouge, there is a dome down below to drain the liquid out of the core, I need you to find it."

"Sure thing, Doc," Rouge said, then turned to Peter. "I don't suppose you want to come with me there, Spider Suit?"

"It's Spider-Man, and sure," Peter said. "Any reason you need me?"

"None really, I could just use some backup, and you were the first that came to mind," Rouge said, winking at the boy. This got a confused reaction out of Knuckles.

"I swear she's flirting with me," Peter thought to himself.

"She better not be trying to enlist him so he can steal for her later...honestly it hardly matters, Spider-Man has too much honor to be a thief," Knuckles thought to himself.

"There are other security doors on different parts of the ARK," Eggman said. "Knuckles, I need you to go and find one as well, it should be on a path that can take you where you need to go to make that Emerald of yours work."

"Alright," Knuckles said.

"Sonic, you're our last hope," Eggman said. "Go past the energy field and get to the core."

"I got it," Sonic said.

"Johnny and I will come too," Rainbow Dash said.

"Hell yeah," Johnny said.

"Iron Man, you get in contact with S.H.I.E.L.D., let them know this situation is being taken care of," Eggman said.

"Yeah, sure thing mustache man," Tony said. "This plan of yours better work by the way."

"It will, have faith," Eggman said, then turned to Rotor. "You...who are you exactly?"

"I'm Rotor, you captured me once and tried to turn me into a robot," Rotor reminded.

"I captured a lot of creatures," Eggman said.

"Yeah, maybe don't flex about that," Peter said.

Eggman shook his head in annoyance, "Still, what can you do?"

"I'm a mechanic," Rotor said, pulling out a wrench.

"He's very intelligent, and uses that intelligence for good," Sally said.

"Define good. Regardless I suppose I could use your skills with the core," Eggman said. "Bocoe, Decoe, escort Boomer here to the main control room."

"It's 'Rotor'," the walrus corrected.

"Excuse me boss, but what about us?" Scratch asked.

"Orbot, Cubot and Bokkun with me," Eggman said. "Scratch, Grounder and Coconuts can monitor us and keep everyone in check."

"Sure thing boss," Scratch said, the others complying.

"Hey, what about me?" Amy asked.

"What about you?" Eggman asked.

"Don't you need me to do anything?" Amy asked. "I am pretty capable."

"Are you really? You don't do much," Eggman said.

Amy furrowed her brow, "Did you forget what I did to you at the beach in Japan!?"

"You swung a hammer and got lucky, only because Princess Sally gave you a diversion," Eggman said. "If I recall, you nearly drowned."

"I hate to say it, but he's got a point Amy," Sally said. "This mission is too dangerous, we can't afford any liabilities."

"I won't be a liability!" Amy said.

"You literally just got taken hostage by whiskers here," Johnny said, gesturing to Eggman.

"Then you nearly got Sonic killed because of it," Rainbow Dash said, Sonic furrowing his brow.

"Come on guys, that's a bit uncalled for," Tails said.

"I know it's harsh Tails, but like my buddy Applejack says, sometimes you gotta be Honest," Rainbow Dash said. "Even when the truth hurts."

"May I interject?" Peter asked. "Amy did beat up one of Eggman's robots all on her own. Some green one that was trying to catch her and some Flicky."

"You mean Zero? Yeah that's hardly impressive, even Princes Sally could have probably smashed it if she got lucky," Eggman said.

"Excuse me!?" Sally asked.

"Honestly you and that Walrus are just as worthless as Amy, if not more so," Eggman said. "I couldn't care less what either of you do."

"Oooh, as soon as this is over, I'm going to annihilate you," Sally warned.

"Alright, that's enough," Sonic said. "Amy, I know you want to help but now's not the time to push for it. We need to keep this planet safe, that's the main priority."

"...Okay fine," Amy lamented.

"Jacky, Sarah, mind keeping her company again?" Sonic asked.

"You got it," Jacky said.

"We'll stay by her side," Sarah insisted.

"Alright, we have a world to save everyone," Tony said. "Go do what you gotta do."

"Let's do it, to it everyone," Sally said as they made their leave.

"Ugh...I hate being left behind," Amy said. "How am I ever going to prove myself if I rarely ever get the chance to?"

"Spider-Man seems to believe in you at least," Jacky said. "Maybe you can try doing some hero work with him one day, really show Sonic and the others how kickass you are."

"That'd be great, better than anyone thinking I'm just going to end up a hostage," Amy said. "Still, they did have a point. I shouldn't have let myself get captured so easily."

"It's our fault too, we couldn't even protect you," Jacky said.

"Hey don't say that, you did your best," Amy said. "Eggman's just crafty, and you two don't have as much experience dealing with him. I have and I still let myself get caught. I couldn't forgive myself if something I did got someone I cared about hurt again. And I like you and your sister, I wouldn't want either of you getting hurt."

"Feeling's mutual Amy," Jacky said.

"And you'll have your moment," Sarah said. "If not with Spider-Man, then come join me and my brother for stuff. Do you like doing martial arts?"

"Oh yeah, I practice boxercise," Amy said, throwing some jabs. "Helps me keep in shape. Sometimes I even offer self-defense for girls."

"Well those girls are lucky to have a positive role model like you," Jacky said.

"Aw, you're sweet," Amy said.

"Well if you ever want to take part in a tournament, come find us," Sarah said. "We even have some friends we'd love for you to meet."

"One girl we know is Pai Chan, a fighter from China," Jacky said. "She's got that spunky energy you do, I bet you'd get along well."

"That sounds great, maybe I can even bring Cream along, assuming that's alright," Amy said.

"Cream? You mean that rabbit girl, right?" Jacky asked. "Have you, Tails or anyone gotten into contact with her since yesterday?"

"I think Tails tried calling her this morning, but no answer," Amy said. "Probably due to the time zones, it might be late in Japan compared to California."

Suddenly the two heard a noise, coming in from the side were some hostile robots.

"Looks like we get to have a bit of fun," Jacky said, throwing some kicks. "Alright, let's trash some robots!"

"Hell yeah," Sarah said, getting into position.

"Sounds fun to me," Amy said, summoning her hammer.

Down below, Tails was blasting his way toward where he needed to go, Sally keeping an eye out for any potential diversion to the mission.

"Alright Tails, destroy the security door leading to the cannon's core," Eggman said over the radio.

"Sure thing, Eggman," Tails said, pressing forward as he blasted all the robots in his path.

"This feels so weird, why are we taking orders from Robotnik?" Sally asked.

"I don't like it either, but the safety of the planet is at stake," Tails said. "Sometimes you gotta put your feelings aside for what's important."

"I know, it's just that...I still remember the terrible things he did," Sally said. "Betraying my father, hurting my friends. He nearly just killed Sonic, that was terrifying."

"I know it was, I'm not exactly over it either, but I'm more concerned about the planet," Tails said. "We'll be fine Sally. Just try to have faith."

"Yeah, sure," Sally said, then checked her watch. "Nicole, are we getting closer?"

"Security door up ahead," Nicole said.

"That is seriously cool, I'd love to get to know your AI more, Sally," Tails said. "She's very good at adapting."

"She is, I just wish I knew more about her," Sally said. "And how my father even got something like this."

"Doesn't she know?" Tails asked. "Hey Nicole, how were you made?"

"Answer not found in my databanks," Nicole said.

"I've asked her too, total mystery," Sally said as Tails got closer to his location.

"Tails, there should be a security door in your room," Eggman said. "Find and destroy it."

"Alright, I think I can figure out where," Tails said.

"No need, Nicole can," Sally said. "Nicole, scan for door."

"Scanning Sally," Nicole pinpointed the location. "Security door at end of the room."

"There it is, Tails," Sally said, pointing to the door. "Destroy it."

"Sure thing, Sally," Tails said, blasting the door with his cannon. "Alright, done."

"Great job Tails," Sally said, rubbing his head. "You're amazing."

"Aw, thanks," Tails said, blushing a bit.

"My turn now," Eggman said, flying into a room.

"What are we doing again?" Cubot asked.

"Looking for our own security door," Eggman said. "It's one of the only ways to stop the Eclipse Cannon."

"I still can't believe your grandfather would do something like this," Orbot said. "This Maria girl must have been really special."

"Oh yes, everyone absolutely loved her," Eggman sarcastically said. "Even after she was gone she was the topic of conversation. Didn't matter what I did, she was the star of the family."

"Aw, you must have been so sad," Cubot said.

"Well it's in the past, and right now I'm making myself known to the world," Eggman said. "That's all that matters."

"If you save the ARK, you'd be a hero," Orbot said. "People will definitely love you for that."

"Maybe after this, you can join the good guys or something," Cubot said.

"Don't count on it, I'm only saving this world because I want it to be part of my Empire," Eggman said. "I will never give up on that goal."

"Is it really worth it?" Orbot asked.

"I don't recall programming you to argue this subject with me, now drop it," Eggman warned.

"Uh, yes sir," Orbot said.

By the end of it, Eggman had destroyed his own security door, "Good, now to check on the others." He grabbed a radio, "Rouge, are you there?"

"I'm here Doctor, Spider-Man and I just arrived in the dome," Rouge said.

"Good, the two of you need to find an emergency switch that will drain the liquid out of the core," Eggman said.

"You got it," Rouge said, placing the radio away and turning to Peter. "Alright, you heard the doctor."

"I hope he knows what he's doing," Peter said.

"He's done a lot of research on this place, we'll be fine," Rouge said.

"So, why exactly were you working with Eggman?" Peter asked.

"Just doing some undercover work for G.U.N.," Rouge explained.

"Wait, you actually work for those people?" Peter asked. "How? When?"

"After I got transported to this planet, a group of them found and recruited me," Rouge explained. "They wanted me to find out details about Project Shadow, so I played along with the Doctor's plans."

"He came dangerously close to destroying the world though," Peter said.

"I wasn't going to let him," Rouge said.

"Well still, between Eggman and G.U.N., you need to mind who you're working for," Peter said.

"Oh they're not so bad, my partner Topaz is nice, though she's a bit high strung," Rouge said. "So by the book, attention to detail, freaks out a lot."

"...Sounds like Twilight," Peter said.

"Twilight? That's a pretty name, is she your girlfriend?" Rouge asked.

"I..." Peter blushed as he awkwardly rubbed his head. "Well, she's a nice girl who happens to be my friend."

"Aw, you're cute when you're blushing," Rouge said, flying over to the boy. "Better make up your mind about this girl soon, otherwise, someone else may come along."

"...I swear you remind me of Black Cat," Rouge said.

"A black cat? But I'm a bat, sweetheart," Rouge said.

"No, she's a girl who acts like a cat," Peter said. "She flirts with me, and I do think she's pretty, but she's also a thief. I can't date a thief."

"Aw, that's too bad, guess we can never work out," Rouge said.

Peter began to blush, the boy making sure his mask was on tight. "Please, let's just focus on the mission."

Minutes later, as the core was drained, Knuckles was doing his part of the mission. He was currently swimming through a large section of the ark, making his way toward a large button.

It was a long swim but nothing that Knuckles couldn't handle, though the Chaos looking enemies were not making his part of the plan any easier.

With that done, Sonic was last up, the hedgehog speeding through alongside Johnny and Rainbow Dash.

"Sonic, Knuckles just finished his part, you're our last chance at this," Eggman said over the radio. "We're depending on you."

"Nothing I can't handle," Sonic said. "Johnny, Dash, let's boost!"

The three dashed through the ARK, making their way toward their destination.

"Sonic, do you trust Eggman with this plan?" Rainbow Dash asked.

"A little, I know he can't be fully trusted but he probably wants to save his own life too," Sonic said. "Plus, we're low on options."

"Probably should have given Iron Man some time to run some tests," Johnny said. "He might have come up with a better conclusion."

"Everything is working so far, let's just stick to it," Sonic said, boosting his way through. "I'm not too worried, I can handle Eggman if the situation calls for it."

"These hero and villain alliances are kind of nerve wracking in a way," Rainbow Dash said.

"It happens," Johnny said. "Come on."

The tree burst through, passing everything until they reached an altar of sorts.

"Is that it?" Rainbow Dash asked.

"Yeah..." Johnny said, standing before everything. "Looks like it."

"Alright, let's do what we need to do," Rainbow Dash said.

Meanwhile Amy, Sarah and Jacky finished clearing off some robots where they were.

"Man, those robots were weak, barely counted as training," Jacky said, wiping some soot away.

"You're both really strong, fast too," Amy said.

"You're impressive yourself," Sarah said.

"At least we cleared the way for everyone, and now...huh?" Amy took note of a certain hedgehog looking out into space. "Look! It's Shadow!"

"Shadow?" Jacky noticed the hedgehog as well. "He's been here this whole time?"

"What's he up to?" Sarah asked.

"Who cares?" Jacky said. "Come on, let's go see if there's anything else that needs to be done."

"He looks kind of sad," Amy said.

"Yeah? So?" Jacky asked. "Wait, don't tell me you feel sorry for him. He framed Sonic for stealing that Chaos Emerald. Not to mention he's working for Eggman, the same bastard that just held you hostage."

"I know, but I just can't ignore this," Amy said, running into the room.

"Seriously? Come on," Jacky lamented.

"Oh leave her be. Who knows? Maybe this could work out well for us," Sarah said.

Amy walked over to Shadow, getting the hedgehog's attention, "Hey, Shadow."

"Hm?" Shadow turned his attention to Amy. "It's you, the hedgehog from Prison Island. I don't suppose you thought I was that blue hedgehog again?"

"She clearly called you by name," Jacky said, walking into the room with his sister.

"Weird seeing humans on here, the last bunch got wiped out," Shadow said. "If you're not careful, that can happen to you."

"I heard, some accident on the ARK or something," Jacky said.

"It wasn't an accident, humans came here to kill the other humans," Shadow said. "It's just how they are, humans are violent creatures by nature."

"That's not true, there's good humans too," Amy said.

"That sounds like a delusion," Shadow said. "Why are you here anyway? Shouldn't you be with your friends in their final hour?"

"They're out trying to save the world, and you should go and help them," Amy said.

"I don't think I will. Everything is already going exactly like I want it to. Besides, not like anyone can be saved now," Shadow said. "Why bother?"

"So you're okay with letting people die?" Sarah asked. "Stealing is one thing, framing is another, but you're about to allow an entire race of people to go extinct. Because why? A few humans came and caused damage?"

"You speak too lightly, imagine being in my situation, seeing those you care about suffer an undeserved wrath from those who seek power," Shadow said.

"I don't need to imagine, I know how bad things can get," Jacky said. "My sister got kidnapped by a malicious group, then got brainwashed into trying to kill me. She even had her memory wiped to make the job easier."

"I'm still trying to regain my memories," Sarah said, the woman holding her head. "I can't even remember my childhood with my own brother."

"Wait, you can't!?" Amy asked. "I had no idea you were going through that!"

"I'm not good with opening up, it's easier to smile and pretend things are okay," Sarah said. "I hate burdening others, plus being around you, Sonic and your friends was comforting. Something about Sonic's charm put my mind at ease, and his determination to face all trouble with a smile on his face is very inspiring."

"Sonic has that effect on people," Amy said.

"I still hate what those people did to my sister," Jacky said. "So as you can see Shadow, I understand the desire for revenge."

"Sounds like we both have a vendetta then," Shadow said.

"I do, but against the right people, not humanity in general," Jacky said.

"The difference is that despite what happened, I'm not going to pretend people aren't worth saving," Sarah said. "The sins of the few should not affect the many."

"Even if you could relate, at least you two still have each other," Shadow said. "Not everyone is so fortunate."

"Shadow, I know people can fight over trivial things, and I will admit that the professor was right in that people can be very selfish," Amy explained. "But a lot of them are good. There are good people here trying to save the planet, because they want everyone on Earth to have a chance to be happy. It's why there are many that do their best, for those who deserve it."

"..." Shadow had no reply, he just continued staring at the Earth.

"I'm begging you Shadow, you have to do something," Amy pleaded. "Give them a chance!"

"Give them a...chance?" Shadow began to recall the final words of Maria as she placed him in a pod to send to Earth.

"Shadow, I beg of you. Do it for me, for a better future! For all those people who live on Earth, give them a chance to be happy. I know you can do it Shadow, that is why you were brought into this world. Sayonara, Shadow the Hedgehog."

"That promise...is the promise I made to her," Shadow said, a singular tear escaping his eye, this not going unnoticed by Amy. "And I must keep that promise."

"Shadow?" Amy asked, concerned about the hedgehog.

"I'll go, I will fulfil the wish you and Maria have made to me," Shadow said, immediately making his leave.

"Wish? What does that mean?" Jacky asked.

"Looks like he's actually going to help," Amy said. "Thank goodness."

"That should give us a better chance," Sarah said. "With luck this should turn the tides in our favor."

"Here's hoping he and the others can pull it off," Jacky said.

Down in the core Knuckles had arrived near an altar that seemed very familiar to the echidna.

"What is that? Why does it look like the Master Emerald's shrine?" Knuckles asked.

"Guess when the Professor was on Mobius, he paid a visit to your ancestors altar, and designed the shrine that way to harness the power of the Chaos Emeralds," Sonic deduced.

"Time to put a stop to it," Johnny said, blasting the core. However a forcefield had protected it. "Huh?" He sent more at the altar, doing no notable damage. "This isn't supposed to happen."

"All of you ungrateful humans, who took everything away from me!" Gerald's voice echoed around the room. "Shall feel my loss, and despair!"

"Why is he saying 'humans' like he isn't one himself?" Johnny asked. Suddenly the core opened up and a giant lizard emerged, startling everyone in the room.

"Whuh..." Rainbow Dash said in disbelief.

"Is that the prototype of the Ultimate Lifeform that was encapsulated?" Knuckles asked.

"Wait, isn't Shadow the new one?" Rainbow Dash asked. "How did we go from giant lizard to small hedgehog?"

"Technically Sonic and Shadow are bigger than average hedgehogs," Johnny said, earning a glare.

"You know what I mean, smart-mouth!" Rainbow Dash said, just before the creature let out a massive roar.

"Looks like we're gonna have to fight this ugly thing," Johnny said.

"Don't bother, let me," Shadow said, marching over to the lizard.

"Shadow?" Johnny asked.

"Hey, what are you up to?" Sonic asked.

"I'll fend off this creature while you four grab the Chaos Emeralds!" Shadow said.

"Right, let's hurry!" Rainbow Dash said.

Meanwhile Peter was not too far away, the boy having Rouge on radio. "I still don't see where this place is."

"It should be up ahead," Rouge said. "Please go and check on Sonic, it would make Princess Sally and the Fox Boy really happy."

"That fox boy is called 'Tails' by the way," Peter said, making his way through a door. On the other side, he could spot Shadow fighting off the Bio-Lizard, Peter immediately grimacing. "What the hell am I seeing?"

Shadow was quick to make short work of the lizard, briefly stunning it with a homing attack to the back.

"Begone you ugly prototype!" Shadow insulted.

"...Rouge, you were doing research on Project Shadow," Peter said in the radio. "Anything about a prototype?"

"I did spot a lizard of sorts, why?" Rouge replied.

"No reason, just curious," Peter said.

Meanwhile Sonic, Knuckles, Johnny and Rainbow Dash reached the top of the Altar, where the sole echidna of the group placed the Master Emerald in the shrine.

"The servers are the Seven Chaos Emeralds. Chaos is power, power enriched by the heart. The controller is the one who unifies the Chaos" Knuckles prayed, powering up his emerald. "Only you can do this, stop the Chaos Emeralds!"

As the emerald did its thing, the monster nearby continued to roar, getting everyone's attention.

"Damn that thing's freaking loud!" Johnny said. Suddenly the monster disappeared. "Whoa, where'd it go?"

"Did it use Chaos Control?" Shadow wondered.

"Whatever, feels like this thing finally stopped," Johnny said.

Peter scratched his head in confusion, "Seriously, what is going on!?"

Suddenly the Colony started moving much faster, much to everyone's confusion.

"Johnny! Dash!" Peter swung over.

"Yo Peter, you feel that rumble?" Johnny asked.

"Duh, any luck on stopping those emeralds?" Peter asked.

"We did," Knuckles said. "The Master Emerald should have drained the power of the Chaos Emeralds."

"Guess the Master Emerald wasn't enough," Johnny said.

"Are you serious!?" Came Sally's voice, startling everyone. "Why are we still crashing to Earth!?"

"Hey guys..." Tony said over his radio. "I see some really big lizard attaching itself to the colony from out here."

"Lizard? What lizard?" Sally asked.

"The Prototype of the Ultimate Lifeform," Eggman chimed in. "He's controlling the colony and is determined to keep on its collision course!"

"Not if I can help it!" Tony said, flying in to do battle with the lizard.

"Be warned Iron Man, that creature may be powerful, even for an Avenger like yourself," Eggman said.

"Well we gotta do something!" Peter said. "We need to get out there and get rid of that prototype thing!"

"We'll need some suits or something," Johnny said. "Gonna be hard fighting that monster."

"Tell me about it, first Chaos now this, I thought all the Kaiju were in Japan," Rainbow Dash said.

"Wait...Chaos?" Sonic said, the hedgehog smirking confidently. "Of course, I can use the Chaos Emeralds to stop that thing."

"Like you did in Station Square against Chaos!" Rainbow Dash said.

"Sonic, if anyone can save us now, it's you," Sally said.

"Not alone though," Sonic turned to Shadow. "Mind joining me on this?"

"You're asking for my assistance?" Shadow asked.

"Did he say 'Shadow'?" Sally asked.

"He's here, he's been helping us," Johnny said, turning to the hedgehog. "But, can you turn Super too? It's not just a Sonic thing?"

"It's never been just a Sonic thing," Knuckles said. "I can do it too, along with several of our friends."

"Plus Shadow knows how to use the Chaos Emeralds, chances are he can utilize it to its full capacity," Sonic said. "If he's willing to help."

"Of course," Shadow said. "Lead the way."

"Well this is a nice start for repaying us back the trouble he caused," Sally said.

"Don't ruin it," Peter said.

Sonic turned to his ally, "Let's go Shadow."

"On it," Shadow said.

"Wait, I gotta ask Shadow," Peter said, getting his attention. "Why the change of heart?"

"That pink hedgehog reminded me of something important," Shadow said.

"Huh..." Peter smiled to himself. "You did it again, Amy. Your cute charms may have really saved the day."

Not too long later, Sonic and Shadow were channeling the power of the Chaos Emeralds, the two turning Super and flying out of the Space Colony with incredible speed.

"Awesome!" Rainbow Dash said.

"Seems like a fight's about to happen, come on, let's go see," Johnny said, flying off with Rainbow Dash.

Outside the Space Colony, Tony was blasting the Final Hazard to the best of his ability, sending out some beams against the creature.

"This thing's tougher than I thought, might need to look for a weak spot," Tony said.

"Iron Man!" Sonic said, flying over with Shadow.

"Uh...Sonic? Is that you?" Tony asked. "You look more yellow than before."

"Shadow and I have this," Sonic said. "We'll stop this monster."

"Tony, trust them on this," Peter said. "Super Sonic is strong, and it sounds like he's got Super Shadow with him."

"Alright kid," Tony said, then focused on the two hedgehogs. "I'm going to see if I can halt the momentum of the ARK, you two do what you gotta do."

Sonic nodded, then turned to Shadow. "You ready?"

"Yes," Shadow said flying ahead to face the lizard.

"Sonic, Shadow! Pay close attention," Eggman said through a radio. "According to Princess Sally's AI, this creature has grown weak without its life support system. From what I can see, it has large, red swelling areas. Aim for it to cause major damage!"

"No problem," Sonic said, flying straight into the first swelling spot he found, kicking it hard enough to hurt the creature.

"I'll handle this too!" Shadow said, flying in to kick his own swelling spot.

The creature shouted in pain, firing some lasers at the two, both barely dodging.

"Where'd he get this power? Was it from the Chaos Emeralds!?" Sonic asked, then saw Shadow take a direct hit. "Whoa! Shadow! Are you hurt!?"

"I'm fine!" Shadow insisted. "Keep attacking!"

Everyone was watching the battle unfold from within the ARK, all gathered in the research room as the two hedgehogs engaged the creature.

"Think they'll be able to pull it off?" Jacky asked.

"They've got this," Peter said. "Sonic was able to hold off Chaos with that form, and now that Shadow's with him, he's got twice as much of a chance."

"They need to hurry! By my calculations, we'll be entering the atmosphere in about four minutes!" Eggman said.

"You shall feel my loss, and despair..." Gerald's voice continued to ring out.

"That sound's starting to tick me off," Peter said, walking over to the computer and messing with it.

"Peter, what are you doing?" Sally asked.

"This screen is being broadcast to Earth, right?" Peter said, hacking into the network. "They need a better message."

As Gerald's warning continued, Fury was shouting at some people to get work done, "Someone send out a nuke or something to destroy that ARK!"

"Sir! An agent of ours is still up there!" Topaz said. "Not to mention Iron Man is there too!"

"Ugh, I'll warn the Shell Head if I need to but I gotta think of the planet!" Fury said. "You know what!? Somebody contact Superman or something!"

"Uh, sir, we don't have his contact information, we've never met Superman," Topaz said.

"I don't want excuses!" Fury shouted. "If someone doesn't-"

Suddenly the TVs across the world were hacked, though his face was obscure from the static, his voice was heard loud and clear. "Am I through!?"

"Who's that?" Topaz asked.

"Well I'll be damned..." Fury said. "It's Spider-Man."

Across Times Square, everyone stopped upon seeing the familiar wall crawler, including the two local Heroes for Hire.

"Danny, don't that sound like Spidey?" Luke asked.

"Yeah, it does," Iron Fist replied.

They weren't the only ones, as lawyer Matt Murdock also recognized the sound of the voice. "Sounds like you got this under control, Peter."

At the Hazuki estate, even Cream seemed hopeful, "That voice is familiar, is it that nice boy who came to warn us about Mr. Sonic?"

"I think so," Nozomi said, the girl still holding Cream close "I hope this is a good sign."

"Everyone! Listen! Not all hope is lost!" Peter said. "Right now a group of heroes is fighting to keep this ARK from crashing to the planet! They're fighting hard right now and won't stop until you're all safe! Heroes like me and my friends! Heroes like Iron Man! Heroes like the two fighting the hardest to protect you! Sonic the Hedgehog, and The Ultimate Lifeform, Shadow!"

"I knew it, Mr. Sonic is going to save the day!" Cream excitedly stated.

"Oh thank goodness," Nozomi said.

"Sonic and Shadow are going to keep this world safe! Please, don't give up hope! There's still a fighting chance, we are not going to give up that easily!" Peter said.

Still in space, Sonic landed a few blows on the swelled area, causing more pain for the monster. "Take that you creep! Shadow! Your turn!"

"On it!" Shadow dashed in and hit another swelled-up area on the monster, knocking some ooze out of the beast.

"Ew, that's pretty..." Tony sarcastically commented as he continued trying to hold the arc back. "Still, those two are a lot stronger than they look. Glad they're on our side."

"Sonic! Shadow!" Amy called from the radio. "The ARK is getting closer to the Earth!"

"Don't worry Amy, this creature is toast," Sonic said as he and Shadow charged up some energy.

"Aim for the red spot on its back!" Shadow said as he and Sonic homed in for one final attack.

The monster yelled out in pain as it succumbed to the damage it received, the creature exploding in space and leaving nothing left of The Final Hazard.

"They pulled it off!" Tony said in relief as he continued trying to push the ark back. "Though that only solves half of the problem. This station is still on a crash course to Earth!"

"Sonic! Shadow! You two still need to stop the ARK!" Sally pleaded. "Hurry, before it's too late!"

"We're on it, Sally!" Sonic said, flying in to keep the ARK back. "You with me Shadow!?"

"Of course!" Shadow said as he assisted Sonic, both of them working together to keep the Space Colony ARK from crashing into the Earth.

Using their combined effort, the two began their process of keeping the station back, with Tony assisting on his end.

"No way we're letting this thing through!" Sonic said, focusing his power.

Shadow grunted in frustration, doing his best to assist, though it proved harder than he thought. "This form is taking a larger toll on my body than I expected. I don't know how much longer I can hold on!"

"Shadow!" Maria's voice rang in his head. " Please! Give them a chance to be happy!

"Iron Man! Head back inside! We got this!" Sonic called.

"You sure!?" Tony asked. "Well, you seem to know what you're doing! I'm trusting you on this!"

With Tony safely inside, Sonic turned his attention to Shadow as the two engulfed the ARK in Chaos Energy. "You ready!?"

"Yes!" Shadow said.

Using a large sum of their energy, the two exerted their power for one final maneuver. "CHAOS! CONTROL!" During this however, Shadow's energy started to fade. He quickly removed an inhibitor ring to give himself that one extra push before sending the ARK away to keep the Earth safe.

There was a consequence however, Shadow's super form had run out, the hedgehog began falling toward the planet, thinking only of the girl whom he dearly cared a great deal about.

"Maria, this is what you wanted right? This is the promise I made to you," Shadow could only smile to himself, happy he was able to fulfil his promise and grant Maria that wish.

"SHADOW!" Sonic called. Unfortunately the hedgehog fell too fast and Sonic was running too low on power to catch him. He flew down but quickly lost sight of his ally. All he could find was Shadow's inhibitor ring. A solemn feeling ran through Sonic's body. "Shadow...I'm sorry."

On the ARK, Eggman stood in disbelief, "They...they actually did it! Sonic and Shadow...they used Chaos Control to move the ARK! We're no longer crashing toward the planet!"

"For real?" Johnny asked.

"Nicole, verify," Sally ordered.

"Verifying Sally," Nicole said, scanning the entirety of ARK. "Can confirm, the Space Colony is no longer moving in a dangerous trajectory. We are safely away from the planet."

"Awesome!" Peter ran to the monitors, hacking in once again. "People of Earth! The colony is no longer crashing toward the planet! Sonic and Shadow saved the day!"

Down on the planet below, there was worldwide rejoice. Everyone was pleased to know that their lives would be spared.

The heroes of New York rejoiced, especially those who personally knew Peter.

"Great job, Spidey," Luke Cage said.

"Looks like he's moving up," Iron Fist said.

Matt Murdock was also very pleased, "Somehow Spider-Man, you just inspire hope in the hopeless."

In Tokyo, Japan, Beat was cheering with his Graffiti Gang, "Yeah! Alright Sonic! I knew that little dude was awesome!"

"Not bad," Gum said. "Guess he's more than just a little hedgehog."

"We should do something for him, show our gratitude," Beat said, shaking his can of spray paint. "And I think I have just the idea. I'm gonna need a lot of blue though."

"What about that other guy? Shadow?" Gum asked."

"Uh...I don't know what he looks like, but if his name is Shadow, and my English doesn't totally suck, I'm guessing black would work," Beat said. "Maybe we'll get a picture soon."

Akira Yuki sat in his Dojo, reflecting on what he had just heard. "The world was saved by this Shadow creature, and that hedgehog Sonic. Perhaps his friends breaking him out of jail was for the best. Still, I have much to discuss with Jacky and Sarah."

In Yokosuka, Cream was excitedly cheering for her friends, "I knew Mr. Sonic could do it! He always keeps us safe!"

"Sonic's pretty amazing," Nozomi said.

"Yes, he is," Ryo said, stepping into the room.

"Ryo-san, you're happy too...aren't you?" Cream hesitantly asked.

Ryo only offered a nod, "Of course, what matters is that everyone's safe. No one else has to suffer."

"Ryo..." Nozomi reached out to the boy.

"Don't worry about me, now the world's safe, that's one less worry off my mind," Ryo said, making his leave. "I have some things to attend to. Nozomi, I trust you will continue to keep Cream company."

"Of course," Nozomi said as Ryo made his exit. The girl was worried for her friend, especially after all that's happened.

"Will Ryo be fine?" Cream asked.

"He's still grieving, it's a process," Nozomi said. She affectionately rubbed Cream's head. "Ryo's a bit of a tough guy, so he won't exactly let anyone know he's sad. Let's both be understanding."

"Okay," Cream said.

"Now, I'm going to help Ine-san with some chores," Nozomi said. "Be a good girl and wait for me here."

"Okay..." Cream said. "Oh, Miss Nozomi?"

"Yes, what is it?" Nozomi asked.

"Later, can we do something nice for Ryo? Maybe pick some flowers?" Cream asked. "I used to pick flowers for my mom back home. It always made her happy."

"That sounds like a great idea," Nozomi said.

"I know how Ryo feels, I miss my mom too," Cream began to recall her mother. "But, at least I know I can see her again. Ryo...he must be hurting much more than me right now. I miss my mom a lot and it really bothers me. To know Ryo is feeling so much worse..." Cream wiped her eyes, a sight heartbreaking for Nozomi. "He's so nice to us, he gave us a home when we were stranded. Why did something so bad have to happen to such a nice boy?"

"Cream..." Nozomi pulled the girl into a hug, hoping to calm her down. "It's so sweet how much you care about Ryo. You're a good girl with a good heart, and I hope you stay this way."

"I'll do my best," Cream said, returning the hug. "For the sake of my friends too. Especially Ryo."

"I know you will, I love you Cream," Nozomi said, rubbing the girl's head. "Your mother raised a great girl."

"I hope you can meet her one day," Cream said.

"So do I," Nozomi said.

Lastly in Wood Oak City, the trio of former cops switched the TV off. They looked outside to see people celebrating their safety.

"What a weird twenty-four-hour period, wouldn't you say boys?" the woman in red asked.

"You said it, Blaze," a blonde man replied. "Nice to have a little relief, right Adam?"

"Got that right, Axel," Adam said, then heard some shattering. "Oh boy, seems like some are celebrating too hard."

"Let's keep the peace," Axel said, joining his friends in checking out any possible disturbance.

Back on the ARK, Sonic had shown up at the door alongside Tony, attracting everyone's attention.

"There's our blue hero," Johnny said, looking around. "Wait, where's Shadow?"

Sonic's only response was a headshake, creating a sense of dread in the others upon realizing what that meant.

"No..." Rouge lamented, thinking over the fate of her friend. "Is it really true?"

"Sorry, we wish he were here with us," Tony said. "But it's thanks to him that we're all here at all."

"I...I understand that..." Rouge said, the girl a bit heartbroken.

Sonic walked over to Rouge, presenting her with the inhibitor ring he got from his rival turned ally. "Here, you should have this."

"Thank you..." Rouge said, glancing down at the inhibitor ring. Despite everything, she did like Shadow's company, and she knew he was a lot nicer and caring than he let on, his sacrifice more than proving that fact. The bat girl turning away in sadness, a sense of doubt clouding her mind. "I can't help but wonder though, did the Professor really intend for Shadow to carry out revenge on Earth and those who live there?"

"He was who he was. A brave and heroic hedgehog, who gave his life to save this planet," Sonic said. "Shadow the Hedgehog."

"Yes, you're right," Rouge said.

Eggman was also looking out the window, alongside both Tails and Tony, admiring the planet below.

"I can almost never get tired of seeing this," Tony said. "Makes what I do feel worth it, knowing that so many people depend on heroes."

"Seems like a big job," Tails said.

"It is, but someone has to do it," Tony said.

"I admit, even I am relieved to have saved this world, for personal reasons," Eggman said. "I must confess though, as a boy I looked up to and admired my grandfather because of his accomplishments. He was my role model, my hero and I wanted to be just like him. A great and respected scientist. Still, did he really intend to destroy us?"

"I don't know, but what matters is that we worked together to save this world," Tails said.

"Yes, of course," Eggman said.

Sally glanced at Eggman, the girl feeling conflicted, "So he helps us once and thinks he's a great hero. In the end he admired his grandfather too well, both mad scientists who craved destruction."

"Sally?" Amy said.

"Huh?" Sally turned to the girl. "Oh, Amy, did you need something from me?"

"No, I just wanted to check on you," Amy said. "Hey, I'm really sorry I had to disobey you, but Sonic needed me. He's always saves me whenever I need help, so I wanted to return the favor."

"Oh, of course, I understand," Sally said. "I'm sorry I got angry before."

"You were just worried, it's kind of nice knowing we have someone looking after our safety," Amy said. She brought the girl in for a hug. "You'll make a great Queen one day."

"Oh, um...thanks," Sally said, feeling a bit embarrassed.

"Hey girls," Peter said, kneeling beside the two. "What a day. Sally, you did great, your AI came in handy."

"Yes, Nicole is great to have," Sally said.

"And Amy, I hear you got Shadow to help us," Peter rubbed her head. "You're such a little hero for that."

"It's nothing, really," Amy bashfully insisted.

"Hey come on, accept the praise," Peter said. "Kindness goes a long way. If someone like Shadow could appreciate your sweet nature, anyone can. And you're definitely sweet, just like some friends of mine down home."

"Aw, you're too nice Peter," Amy said.

"I'm also sorry I left you behind before, if I knew that you'd get taken hostage, I would have brought you with me," Peter said.

"Jacky and Sarah were there," Amy said. "Plus you came and that's all that matters."

"I'm glad," Peter said, rubbing her head. "I never want to lose you Amy, I've only known you a short time, but you're already precious to me. You're like a little ray of sunshine and seeing you really brightens my day, even out in space."

"Aw, you deserve a kiss for that one," Amy said, leaning in to briefly lock Peter in a kiss, taking the boy by surprise as she pulled away after a couple of seconds.

"Uh...didn't expect anything that intimate," Peter said, the boy now blushing.

"Don't get me wrong, my heart will always belong to a certain someone," Amy glanced at Sonic. "But you deserved a little more than a peck on the cheek."

"I've got a complicated love life myself, and I'd prefer you didn't get dragged into it," Peter said. "I appreciate it though."

"So weird seeing a human kiss a Mobian," Sally said. "Then again, you were with Rouge, and she's a very attractive bat. Probably awakened a newfound attraction to the likes of us."

"Hey! I do not appreciate what you're insinuating," Peter said.

"Guess I should watch out for your advances. Not that you and I will ever be a thing," Sally said.

"Please, I bet you're a lousy kisser anyway, you'd rather use that mouth of yours to talk than show affection," Peter said.

"Hey, I can be good, watch!" Sally then pulled Peter into a quick kiss, taking him by surprise as a few glanced his way. "There, how do you like that? Web head."

"Uh...well that happened," Peter said.

"Careful Pete, I don't think Twi will appreciate you kissing these girls," Johnny teased.

"Are you gonna date them or something?" Rainbow Dash asked, causing some concern from Sonic.

"N-no way!" Peter insisted. "Come on, this is hardly the time for jokes. Especially after what happened to Shadow."

"If I'm being honest, what happened to Shadow is a bit of an eye opener," Rainbow Dash said. "A reminder that life can come and go so quickly. That's why you shouldn't just wait for things, because life isn't going to wait for you."

"Couldn't have put it better myself," Tony said. "If any of you have dreams or goals, make sure you work at them. You never know what can happen."

"I know I will," Amy said, glancing back at Sonic, the hedgehog immediately turning away.

"Yeah, me too," Sally said, also glancing at Sonic.

"...Maybe I should take some chances myself then," Peter said. "I just hope it works out."

"Just go for it," Eggman said. "You don't want to live with regrets, do you?"

Sonic began chuckling to himself, "Wow, I actually agree with you for once, Eggman."

"...Ugh, that just feels so wrong to me," Eggman said.

"Sounds like Doom whenever I make a good point against him," Johnny said.

"When has that ever been a thing?" Tony asked.

"Hey! It can happen!" Johnny said. "Shove off, Stark!"

"Ha, take that Torch," Peter said. He turned around and was caught with a surprise kiss from Rouge. "H-hey!"

"Sorry, I couldn't help it, I am a thief, and I'm not above stealing kisses," Rouge said. "Plus, it will keep my mind off the sadness for a bit."

"Man, what a day," Peter said. "Shadow…thank you for helping make this possible. Hope you're finally at peace."

Rouge giggled to herself, then noticed that Knuckles was staring out the window alone. "You alright there, Knuckles?"

"Me? Yeah, I'm fine," Knuckles said. "What about you? Off to find those jewels you love so much?"

"Well, Topaz does owe me a few, though I am considering a new line of work after all this," Rouge said, looking at Shadow's ring. "I have something better than jewelry anyway, so we're even."

"If you say so," Knuckles said.

Rotor was also mesmerized by the planet down below, "Such a beautiful world. So this is where I've been."

"Awesome sight, huh?" Jacky asked.

"Sure is," Rotor said. "You Earthlings have a very nice planet."

"Well we can stand to be better at appreciating what we have, but this sadly is the easiest thing to take for granted," Jacky said.

"I get that, our home isn't always so great either," Rotor said.

"But it's like Amy said, there's good down there too, and it's worth protecting," Sarah said. "That's why Sonic and Shadow fought so hard."

"Yeah, and now I gotta figure out a way home, to help Sally protect the world we love," Rotor said.

Sonic still thought everything over, especially regarding Shadow. "So...The Ultimate Lifeform."

"What's wrong, Sonic?" Amy asked, getting his attention.

"Is something bothering you?" Sally asked.

"It's nothing, let's go home," Sonic quickly dismissed. "I miss Cream, I want to see how she's doing."

"Same here," Amy said.

"Finally, let's leave," Scratch said, nervously glancing out the window. "This view's freaking me out!"

"It feels like we can still fall," Bokkun said.

"You're fine!" Eggman said. "But I suppose we should wrap things up. I have work to do."

"Already scheming again, Doctor?" Sally asked.

"Remember, you're still wanted for a lot of crime," Peter said. "You did blow up half the moon."

"I can fix it," Eggman said, making his leave. "Let's go minions."

"Right behind you boss," Orbot said, before turning to the others. "We really appreciate all of your help today, we actually make a good team and-"

"Are you'se seriously complimenting our enemy!?" Coconuts asked.

"Well it's the polite thing to do, isn't it?" Orbot asked.

"Get moving!" Eggman scolded, the robots quickly following him.

"Wow, some of his robots have manners," Peter said.

"What did he mean by by fixing the moon though?" Rainbow Dash asked. "Also, are we really going to let him just leave?"

"I'll keep an eye on him," Tony said, making his leave too.

"Come on, let's all go," Peter said, everyone exiting one by one.

Sonic was the last one out, glancing back into the room, thinking once more of his fallen ally. "Sayonara, Shadow the Hedgehog."

A new day brings new adventure. But for now, rest easy heroes.

Back in the present, Amy had just wrapped everything up. "That was our trip to The Space Colony ARK, and our first adventure with Shadow."

"And me too," Rouge reminded.

"Right, of course," Amy said. "It was quite an eye-opening adventure."

"Sure sounds like it, still can't believe you all kissed Uncle Spidey," Sonia said.

"Uh…that was just for fun," Amy said.

"Very fun," Rouge said, making Knuckles jealous."

"But now I'm confused," Sonia said. "You made it seem like Shadow died at the end, but he's alive. How?"

"Eggman saved his life, apparently he had a space pod that caught him just before he fell to Earth," Amy said. "We didn't know until much later."

"Yeah, the next time we saw Shadow, we didn't even know if he was the real Shadow," Sonic said. "He believed he was an Android."

"What's the story with that?" Sonia asked.

"It's a long one," Amy said. "We'll tell you another time."

"I hope so, I still gotta know how you got back to Mobius," Sonia said.

"Still, what do you think of Shadow after hearing this story?" Amy asked. "Still think he's an emo?"

"Kind of," Sonia said. "I feel bad that his best friend died but still, he could stand to smile once in a while."

"Shadow can smile, he just chooses not to," Rouge said. "It doesn't mean he's not happy."

"It sounds like you and Shadow were pretty close, Aunt Rouge," Sonia said.

"We still are, me and Omega are pretty much the only people he's willing to talk to," Rouge said.

"You must have been relieved that he survived," Sonia said. "Were you really sad when you thought he died?"

"A little, I did hate that our final moments had us so hostile toward one another," Rouge said. "I felt terrible thinking he was just this weapon of mass destruction, but he was much more than that. When the time comes, I will gladly tell you about our reunion, the day Team Dark made its grand return."

"Team Dark?" Sonia asked.

"Spider-Man called us that, well he did when it was me, Shadow and Eggman," Rouge said. "I adopted the name when it was me, Shadow and Omega."

"I like the name it sounds cool," Sonia said, then heard some knocking. "Someone there?"

Sally had come into the room. "I'm sorry to interrupt, but-"

"Hold that thought," Sonia said, then ran over to hug Sally, nearly knocking the Queen over.

"Whoa...What have you been eating!?" Sally asked, then processed that Sonia was hugging her. "Oh, this is actually nice."

"I just want to say that I love you," Sonia said, then placed a kiss on Sally's cheek. "And that you mean the world to me."

"Oh, wow um..." Sally began blushing a bit. "That's really nice of you, sweetheart."

"I know," Sonia said, planting another kiss. "You deserve my cuteness."

"Someone's full of herself," Knuckles teased.

"Knuckles," Amy said in a warning tone, nearly freaking the Echidna out.

"Just joking," Knuckles insisted.

Sally walked further into the room as Sonia maintained her hug, and peppered some kisses on the Queen's face. "Like I said, I'm sorry to bother you but I do need to speak with Bunnie."

"Settle things with Blaze?" Bunnie asked.

"Kind of, of course we have to make some new strategies given the confirmation of Scourge and Surge teaming up with Eggman," Sally said, Sonia now nuzzling her nose against Sally's cheek. "I trust Sonic has let you all know about those two?"

"He did, and don't worry about them," Knuckles said. "Honestly, I think you're fine with who you have here. No need for anyone else."

"I suppose so," Sally said, briefly turning to Sonia, nuzzling her nose against hers. "I don't know who else we'd even get."

"So we're just dealing with Eggman, Nagus, Metal Sonic, Sage, Scourge and Surge," Amy said. "With the hint of Sleet and Dingo."

"Yes, and since Kit goes everywhere Surge goes, he's just as likely to be there," Sally said, now rubbing Sonia's head. "And there's the chance of encountering The Suppression Squad."

"The Freedom Fighters and The Chaotix should be enough, plus assistance of everyone in this room," Knuckles said. "Honestly, I'd say that everyone in this room is still enough to handle Eggman as is."

"We just need to strike hard soon," Tails said. "The moment Eggman shows himself, we make our move."

"I'd say we just look for him, he can't be that hard to find," Rouge said.

"Probably won't need to," Sonic said. "If I know Eggman, he'll show up soon. He's not one to stay in the shadows, eventually he's going to show off for the world."

"He does have that type of ego," Amy said. "Honestly if Scourge is part of this, no doubt he'll show up first. Same with Surge."

"Just the fact that they were already out and about proves it. They're way too impatient to wait too long," Tails said. "We should be ready for those two in particular."

"Nicole's already on it," Sally said, still holding Sonia close. "She's scanning for any possible attempts at an early invasion. Even if Scourge and Surge break into the city, they won't get far."

"Daddy can beat them both up," Sonia said. "And I'll help."

"That's nice sweetheart, but I'd feel better if you stayed somewhere safe if the bad guys showed up," Sally said.

"No way, you're my Queen and I must do what I can to protect you," Sonia said. "It is only natural since I love you very much."

"And I love you too," Sally said, planting a kiss on Sonia's nose. "That's why I want you safe. Plus, Manik could use someone to protect him."

"Oh right! I must protect my big brother!" Sonia said. "I'll be the perfect bodyguard! It will help me achieve my biggest goal in life."

"Biggest goal? "Sonic asked.

"Yeah, when I grow up, I'm going to be a Freedom Fighter!" Sonia said, this revelation surprising most in the room.

"You want to be a Freedom Fighter?" Sally asked.

"Of course, I'll be a hero just like daddy," Sonia said. "And I promise to always be by your side, Manik's too."

Sonic furrowed his brow at the last statement. "I know she's not trying to take a jab at me, but I can't help but worry if someone planted some type of nonsense in her head."

"That's really nice of you dear, but I'd rather you do what makes you happy," Sally said.

"But, seeing your smile is what makes me happy," Sonia said.

That statement mixed with her adorable eyes made it very difficult for Sally to hold back her tears, but she just barely managed, "That's...really sweet of you dear. I guess it would be great if you became a Freedom Fighter, you have the talent for it. Once you're old enough, we'll talk more."

"Ahem..." Sonic said, getting Sally's attention. "Don't I get a say in this? She is my daughter, Sally."

"Uh...right, of course," Sally said, feeling a bit sheepish. "We'll talk about this another time Sonia. Right now I gotta talk with my team."

"Aw...alright," Sonia said.

"Should we do anything, Sally?" Tails asked.

"Actually, if you don't mind Tails, can you come with me and Bunnie?" Sally asked. "We could use someone of your intelligence."

"Of course, I'd be happy to help," Tails said.

"Rouge, I hate to burden you, but would you mind scouting the area quickly?" Sally asked. "I could really use your keen eyesight."

"I'd be happy to, Princess," Rouge said.

"Why do you still call her that? She's a Queen," Knuckles said.

"It's fine, Knuckles, it's always been her thing and she doesn't need to change it," Sally said.

"Just don't say it in front of Lanolin, she'll accuse you of treason or something," Bunnie said.

"Pfft, I'd like to see her try," Rouge said as she stood up. "Speaking of Royalty, have you considered reaching out to Monkey Kahn? If Robotnik is trying to take over, he might need to know. Same with other leaders, like your friend Lupe."

"That's a good point, I'll consider reaching out to Ken and Lupe," Sally said.

The bat girl extended her wings, "I'll be back soon then. Make sure everything's top notch."

Rouge quickly flew off as Tails himself got up from his seat. The fox turned his attention to his wife, "I'll be back in a second."

"Sure thing dear," Cream said, quickly sharing a kiss with Tails. "Go and serve our Queen well."

"Of course," Tails turned his attention to Sally. "I'm ready to go."

"So am I, Sally girl," Bunnie said.

"Alright everyone. Let's do it, to it," Sally said, leading everyone out of the room.

"It's been a while since I heard that phrase," Amy said.

"Is it special?" Sonia asked.

"It's not too different than saying something like, 'Avengers Assemble'," Amy explained. "Sonic used to say it all the time."

"Huh? No I didn't!" Sonic said.

"Sally did say that you used to say it as a kid, and then she picked up on it because she thought it sounded cool," Amy said. "Also, I recall you saying it a couple of times."

"...Okay, maybe I said it a few times as a little kid, and once or twice in my teen years, but it's far from my catchphrase," Sonic said.

"Of course not, your catchphrase was 'Juice and Jam' time," Cream said.

"I thought it was 'Way Past Cool'?" Knuckles said.

"Okay, you all need to stop taking Sally's word so seriously, she's stuck so far in the past it's no wonder she still acts like a little spoiled girl," Sonic said.

"Whoa, bring it back, Sonic," Amy scolded. "Where did that come from!?"

"Uh..." Sonic scratched his head. "Crap...ran my mouth off again."

"That was a bit mean, Sonic," Cream said. "Sally's been very hospitable toward you today."

"Yeah daddy, don't say mean things about my girl," Sonia said.

"Sonia, don't call Sally your girl," Sonic said, then muttered to himself. "She'll get all offended over nothing."

"I heard that, Sonic!" Amy scolded.

"Seriously, what's with you now?" Knuckles asked.

"Uh...I can't say," Sonic said. "Maybe I need some more fresh air."

"Sonic, you can't keep avoiding the problem," Amy said. "If there's something you want to say regarding Sally, now might be a good time to do so."

"Actually Amy," Cream interjected. "Sally might be feeling very worried regarding what Doctor Eggman is up to, so maybe adding any unnecessary drama isn't the best idea right now."

"Right, gotta keep Sally's feelings in mind," Sonic nervously said, earning a glare from Amy.

"Knuckles, Cream, mind taking Sonia and giving me and my darling husband some alone time?" Amy said.

"Of course," Cream took Sonia by her hand. "Come along dear."

"Glad that's not me," Knuckles said.

"Knuckles, that's not helping," Cream scolded as the two left.

Now Sonic found himself alone with Amy, unsure how to process what was now happening.

Outside, Knuckles awkwardly looked back, almost pitying Sonic. "That hedgehog, always saying the wrong thing."

"Knuckles, not the time," Cream scolded.

"Hey, Aunt Cream?" Sonia said. "What exactly happened with Ryo? It sounded like something was bothering him, and that some bad things were going on."

"Well...I don't feel too right telling you given your age," Cream said.

"Hey I just heard about Earth's military raiding a colony and killing a bunch of people, including some young girl," Sonia said. "Plus, weren't you my age when this happened?"

"That doesn't make it alright but, I suppose I can describe it the best I can," Cream said. "It happened the day before the Eclipse Cannon was about to fire."

Seventeen years prior, Ryo was running up the alleyway toward his house, having seen a sign leading to his estate having been knocked over, thanks in part to a black car he had spotted.

He walked inside the estate, immediately spotting his house maid on the ground, seemingly hurt. "Ine-san!" He ran over to help the woman up, checking for any injuries. "Ine-san, how bad is it?"

"Ryo?" Ine did her best to regain her composure. "I'm fine, but your father..."

"My father?" Ryo said, focusing ahead on the path toward the dojo. As he made his way toward the structure, Cream and Cheese, both curious, had spotted Ryo from the window.

"Ryo's here, I wonder if he knows what's happening?" Cream asked.

"Chao?" Cheese said.

"Let's follow him," Cream said, the chao following the girl as she snuck outside.

She followed Ryo as he got closer to his Dojo, careful to stay out of sight as the boy was constantly looking around to make sure he wasn't going to be ambushed.

As he got close to the Dojo entrance, Fuku was thrown through the doors, landing hard on his back.

"Fuku-san!" Ryo checked on his father's pupil. "Are you hurt?"

"Ryo-san?" Fuku replied. "I'm fine. But, Hazuki sensei..."

Fuku fell unconscious from his injuries. Ryo gently placed him down as he made his way through the doors.

Cream however grew worried as she flew over to the martial arts pupil, "Fuku-san?" She didn't get an answer, but he was breathing, so she knew he'd be alright. "Who could have done this? Could it be Doctor Eggman?"

"Chao?" Cheese asked.

"I don't know who else would do this, Ryo's family are ordinary people, they wouldn't have enemies, would they?" Cream wondered aloud.

"Father!" Cream heard. She turned to the doors and quickly flew over, peeking inside.

"Stay back, Ryo!" Iwao ordered.

From what Cream could see, there were two men near the door blocking Ryo, the same men in suits from before.

Further inside she could see the intimidating man with the green Dragon Cloak. The man known as Lan Di.

"For the last time, where are you hiding that mirror?" Lan Di asked, the man holding his hands behind his back.

"I do not intend to tell you," Iwao said.

Lan Di grew impatient, sinisterly approaching his foe. Iwao went for a few strikes, but Lan Di was quick to evade, immediately resuming his prior position.

Iwao grew irritated and tried attacking again, Lan Di effortlessly dodging, only using his hands to block, which allowed him a chance to kick Iwao in the neck. The man then did a spinning roundhouse kick to knock the estate owner on the floor.

"Oh no!" Cream worried.

"Father!" Ryo rushed past the suits toward Lan Di, ready to engage him in combat. "Why you-!"

Lan Di effortlessly punched Ryo back, knocking him to the floor in one hit.

"Ryo-san!" Cream shouted in worry, this getting the attention of the suits.

"Nà shì shénme?" One suit asked, speaking a language Cream has never heard before.

"Cream! I told you to stay inside!" Iwao scolded.

"But..." Cream glanced back at Lan Di. The man seemed a bit curious by her appearance, and why she would be in a place like this. In the end, it mattered very little to him.

"If I were you, child," Lan Di said, getting her attention. "I would run far from here."

"I-I-I'm not afraid of y-y-you!" Cream insisted. "Ch-cheese?"

The chao nodded, flying over to Lan Di, looking ready for a fight. "Chao..."

Lan Di effortlessly whacked the chao away, caring very little for the creature.

"Cheese!" Cream ran to her friend, making sure he wasn't too hurt.

"Now then," Lan Di focused back on Iwao.

"No matter how often you ask, I will never tell you where the mirror is!" Iwao shouted.

Lan Di could tell Iwao would be stubborn, but gained a sinister idea. Rather than attacking the body, he would go for Iwao's heart. Walking over, he lifted Ryo by the throat, much to the worry of the boy's father.

"Wait! Don't!" Iwao pleaded.

"Ryo!" Cream flew over in an attempt to pry the boy away. "Let him go you bully!"

Lan Di simply pinched a pressure point on the girl's neck, causing her to fall nearly unconscious. With that settled, he focused back on Ryo. "Tell me where the mirror is." Lan Di readied a strike, "Or else...your son…"

"Wait!" Iwao said, getting Lan Di's attention. "The mirror...it's buried under the cherry tree."

Having gotten the answer he wanted, Lan-Di released Ryo, the boy coughing from having had his neck nearly crushed. He gestured his men to grab the mirror, then focused back on Iwao.

Ryo was worried about his father, but seeing the rabbit girl on the ground made him feel worse, "Cream..."

"Do you remember Zhao Sunming?" Lan Di asked, getting Iwao's attention. "The man you killed Mengcun."

"It can't be..." Iwao said, realizing something as he struggled to get back on his feet.

"Get up, I will allow you to die like a warrior," Lan Di said.

As Iwao stood, he went for one more strike, but Lan Di was quick to hit him hard with a double palm to his chest, sending the older man flying back.

"No...father..." Ryo said, crawling toward the man.

Seconds later, one of the suits came back inside, "Lan Di sir, we have it."

Lan Di held the mirror in the air upon taking it, revealing that he had a tattoo resembling the mirror on his left arm.

With his mission accomplished, the man left with his henchmen as Ryo got closer to the injured Iwao.

"Father!" The boy picked up the pace, trying to prop his father up. "Father? Are you alright?"

"My son...I am...sorry," Iwao struggled to say, the man barely able to speak through his wounds. "I'm sorry that...I must leave you."

"What are you saying?" A concerned Ryo asked.

"Your friends...keep your friends close...those you love...keep them all close..." Iwao struggled a bit more, before succumbing to his wounds.

"Father?" Ryo tried to wake him up. "Father!"

Slowly Cream woke up, seeing Ryo kneeling over the fallen Iwao. "R-ryo?"

"NOOOOOO!" Ryo shouted in agony, the realization of his father's death finally settling in.

"Ryo!" Cream called, getting his attention.

The boy turned to the girl, hastily running to her, a single tear coming down his eye, "Cream...I'm so glad you're alright."

"What's wrong? Why are you so sad?" Cream asked, then noticed Iwao. "What happened to Mr. Hazuki?" The lack of response was worrisome to Cream. Mixed with Ryo's reaction, Cream began fearing the worst. "No..."

"Cream..." Ryo wanted to comfort her but she ran past him, checking on the older man.

"Mr. Hazuki!? Wake up!" Cream shouted, desperately shaking the man. "Please! You have to get up!"

"Cream..." Ryo felt terrible enough about his father, but hearing the despair in Cream's voice now made things much worse.

"Mr. Hazuki!" Cream was crying now, desperately shaking the man. "Please! You can't go yet! Don't leave Ryo! Don't leave us! Please! Mr. Hazuki!"

The echo of his name rang loudly in Cream's eyes seventeen years later, the woman in tears over the memory of what happened to Iwao.

Knuckles looked very remorseful, feeling pity for Ryo, as well as recalling his own losses.

"What happened to Ryo's father was terrible, he was such a nice man, he let us live in his home when we needed one," Cream said. "To see Ryo lose his father, to see such a nice boy reduced to sadness. No one wants to experience a loss like that, especially at a young age."

"...I feel so bad for Ryo now," Sonia said. "Was daddy sad?"

"We were all sad, but Sonic might be better off explaining certain parts of this story," Cream said.

"Alright," Sonia said.

"For now, let's go to the Cafeteria, I'm a bit hungry," Knuckles said.

"Me too, I want a Chili Dog," Sonia said.

"Do they have Chili Dogs?" Knuckles asked.

"They sure do, Aunt Sally has them made thanks to daddy and Uncle Spidey," Sonia said, leading the two to the cafeteria.

While in Sally's Throne Room, Fiona and Lanolin had pulled Rotor aside and began explaining their plan to the mechanic.

"You want me to build, what!?" Rotor asked.

"Our own Sonic," Fiona clarified. "If Robotnik can have one, why shouldn't we?"

"This way we don't have to rely on the actual Sonic, we have one all to ourselves," Lanolin added.

"Sounds like a great plan, doesn't it?" Fiona boasted. "We have all the power of Sonic, in addition to being able to follow basic orders."

"I don't know about that," Rotor said.

"What's the big deal? You're a smart guy, you're good with machines," Fiona said.

"I've never really worked on something so complicated before," Rotor said. "Maybe if I got help from Tails and Tekno-"

"Out of the question," Fiona said. "I don't think Tails would be okay with building a robotic Sonic. Also, enough with asking for Tekno's help, that girl's a total weirdo!"

"Huh? Tekno's really nice though," Rotor said.

"She dresses so stupidly though," Fiona said.

"Well, if we're going to do this, I will need some backup," Rotor said. "If Tails is out of the question, then Tekno will have to do. Unless Sally wants to help."

"We can't tell her either, it's a surprise," Lanolin said.

Rotor furrowed his brow at the sheep, "A surprise? So you don't even plan to run this by Sally to see if she's okay with it?"

"Don't worry, once she sees firsthand what this robot can do, she'll be totally on board," Fiona said.

"Are you sure about that? If things go bad and Sally finds out this was your idea, she's going to be really ticked off," Rotor said.

"Don't worry, if anything goes wrong, I'll blame it on Lanny here," Fiona said, gesturing to Lanolin.

"Huh!? Why me!?" Lanolin asked.

"Because Sally has a soft spot for you, so she won't be able to stay mad if she finds out this was your plan," Fiona said. "Which technically speaking, it was your idea. You're the one who said that Sonic would be a good soldier if he could follow orders."

"Hey you're the one who suggested our own Metal Sonic," Lanolin said.

"You seemed okay with it before," Fiona said.

"That was before I knew you planned to make me take the fall if things went bad!" Lanolin said.

"Okay fine, we'll just blame Antoine then, better?" Fiona asked.

Lanolin nodded her head, "I can live with that."

"You're not blaming Antoine," Rotor said. "If things go wrong, you're both taking responsibility. Agree to that or you can count me out."

"Seriously? Come on buddy, we're your pals," Fiona said.

"You two never even talk to me," Rotor said. "Especially you Fiona, you spend half of, if not most of your time with Sally."

"Who else am I going to spend time with? Everyone still calls me 'traitor'," Fiona said.

"It's not inaccurate, you did betray us once," Rotor said.

"So that's supposed to stay with me forever?" Fiona asked. "Does that seem fair to you?"

"Hey, you're cool with holding Sonic's mistakes over his head," Rotor said.

"That's because Sonic barely makes an effort to be there for Sally," Fiona said. "At least I'm here in the castle helping her manage her Kingdom. I'm trying to make amends, but of course Sonic still gets a free pass just because he's this so-called hero."

"I do kind of have to agree with Fiona on that," Lanolin said. "I personally do not condone her prior betrayal, but even I can see that she puts out an effort. Plus, in her defense, she was already being treated like garbage before her betrayal, so her pain is understandable."

"You know who else suffered?" Rotor asked. "Robotnik's grandfather did, nearly seventy years ago. That didn't make it okay for the old man to try and destroy the Earth."

"Are you seriously going to compare me to a member of Robotnik's crummy family?" Fiona asked. "Look, if you need Tekno's help, then we'll ask her to help. For now, can you please just go along with our idea!?"

"...Fine," Rotor said. "But I don't think Sally will like this."

"She will, I'm very confident about it," Fiona said.

"Speaking of Sally, here she comes," Lanolin said, gesturing to Sally standing in front of her throne.

"I have an announcement to make, but before I start, is everyone here?" Sally asked.

"I am my Queen," Antoine said.

"So are we!" Fiona said, gesturing to herself and Lanolin, the latter bowing to Sally.

"My team is present," Blaze said, gesturing to Julie-Su and Marine having just arrived.

"So are we," Espio said, gesturing to himself, Charmy and Vector.

"I'm also present," Jewel said, holding some papers. "Ready to take important notes too."

"I'm right beside you, Sally," Nicole said.

"I'm here and waiting too," Rotor said.

"We're missing a few though," Sally said. "Wait, where are Tangle and Whisper?"

"I just contacted them," Nicole said. "They should be on their way with Mighty and Ray."

"Shall I go fetch them?" Lanolin asked, then heard some commotion. "Never mind, I hear them now."

"Man, that was a fun game," Tangle said, waltzing in with her friends while holding a ping pong racket. "We gotta have that tie breaker rematch soon."

"You're on," Mighty said. "Just be prepared to lose."

"Oh you wish," Tangle said, passing by Lanolin. "Oh hey Lans, you should have been there. Whisper and I were-" Lanolin whacked the Ping Pong racket away and karate chopped Tangle's head. "Ow!"

"We're in the middle of a crisis, stay focused will you!?" Lanolin shouted, this reaction earning a slight chuckle from Fiona, which in turn earned a glare from Whisper.

"That was a bit of an overreaction," Mighty said.

"No one asked your opinion," Lanolin said, then focused on Sally. "My team is present Queen Sally."

"Uh, that's great Lanolin," Sally said, feeling a bit awkward in how Lanolin reacted to Tangle. "Would you all mind gathering closer together?"

Everyone moved in to form a circle around Sally, with Lanolin and Fiona standing the closest to their Queen, earnings some side-eyes from a few Freedom Fighters, especially Antoine and Whisper.

Sally took note of Tangle, and in a moment of sympathy, whispered something to the lemur, "I'm glad you had fun, later you and I can play a game."

Tangle's ears immediately perked up, "I would love that, Sally."

"For now, let's stay focused, this way we have more time for leisure," Sally said, affectionately rubbing Tangle's head, much to the girl's delight. With that settled, Sally focused back on her Queen duties. "As you're all aware, we are in preparation for an attack from Robotnik and any potential allies of his."

"I don't suppose you found out anything else?" Mighty asked.

"Hey, don't interrupt!" Lanolin scolded.

"It's fine Lanolin, it's a valid question," Sally said. "We may have found some new info, and we will verify. Tails here will be a large part of that operation."

Tails made his presence known, waving at the group, "How's it going, Freedom Fighters?"

"Taking a bigger role, young Tails?" Antoine asked. "Zat is very good for you. You must be so proud of how far you have been coming."

"Yeah, totally," Tails said. "I'm more than happy to help Aunt, I mean...Queen Sally with her operation."

"You know you don't have to be formal with me," Sally whispered.

"I know but for now, I'd rather keep it professional," Tails whispered back.

"For the record, suggesting Tails was my idea," Fiona said. "He is clearly the best guy for the operation."

"Uh, it's nothing," Tails said, sheepishly rubbing his head.

"Modest too, that is respectable," Fiona said.

"Let's try to focus," Sally said, getting everyone's attention again. "As of now, we know Nagus is one of Robotnik's allies."

"Which is still weird," Bunnie said. "Those two hate each other."

"She knows that, Bunnie," Lanolin said, earning a glare from the cyborg rabbit. "Regardless Robotnik and Nagus are still our immediate enemies."

"That's not all, thanks to The Chaotix, along with Marine and Julie-Su, we discovered that Scourge and Surge are among Robotnik's allies," Sally said.

"Wait, did you say 'Surge'?" Tangle asked, Whisper's eyes opening slightly in response. "She's part of this too?"

"If she is, we must prepare for her and Kitsunami," Whisper said.

"Still, the idea of Scourge showing up," Rotor said. "What if he brings The Suppression Squad?"

"That was my worry too," Sally said.

"Fiona, you and Scourge used to be in love, any idea what he could be planning?" Tangle asked.

"First off, what me and that asshole had wasn't love, it was manipulation on his end. The only thing Scourge loves is his own reflection," Fiona said. "As for what he's planning, if I know Scourge, he's likely going to have backup. He isn't the type to trust Robotnik and I doubt he wants to be in his group alone. I believe that he's going to bring The Suppression Squad with him. Whether it's all of them or just a couple, I can't say. But let's be prepared for all of them."

"Sleet and Dingo may also be involved, thanks to some scout work from Mina," Sally said, looking around. "Oh, didn't realize she wasn't here either. Really need to make a list."

"I'm already on it," Jewel said.

"It's fine, Sal, if Mina's late then it's her own fault," Fiona said. "We'll bug her about it later."

"That won't be necessary," Sally said. "For all we know, she probably found more leads."

"So, we have Robotnik, Nagus, Surge and Scourge for sure a part of this," Rotor said. "And the possibility of Sleet and Dingo. Seems like Eggman's assembling an army."

"How big of an army though?" Sally wondered. "Who else could he have gotten?"

"If I m-may..." Ray said, getting Sally's attention. "Hasn't Eggman w-worked with guys like Fang bef-fore?"

"Oh yeah, Fang, Bark and Bean have worked with Eggman once or twice," Mighty said.

"That's a good point, we'll keep that in mind," Sally said.

"Would Bean and Bark do it again though?" Mighty asked. "They're not really so bad, they just keep getting manipulated by Fang."

"He is good at manipulation," Bunnie said. "He's scummy in his own right."

"If he's with Robotnik, we'll handle him, just like the rest," Sally said. "Now then, we need to-"

"Mother!" Manik called, the boy running into the throne room.

"Manik, slow down, you don't need to run that fast," Sally said.

"I'm fine," Manik insisted, the boy coming to a halt. He did feel a bit tight chested but nothing he worried about. He had his inhaler anyway, the boy patting his pocket just to be sure it was there. "I just really need to speak with you."

"What's the commotion anyway?" Sally asked.

"He has a few questions," Mina said, having just arrived with Melody.

"Took you long enough to get here, Mina," Fiona said. "We just started a meeting too."

"Hey give me a break, I was patrolling the castle," Mina said.

"Well you just missed some very important information about Robotnik," Fiona said.

"We can catch her up, it's no big deal," Bunnie said. "Mina, to give you the short version, Scourge and Surge were spotted with Sage and Metal Sonic."

"Oh, so I guess we're dealing with The Suppression Squad most likely," Mina deduced.

"Unfortunately, yes," Sally said. "I hope Sonic and his friends will be enough to handle them."

"Of course we will," Tails reassured. "Especially Sonic, he can handle anything."

"I have total faith in Sonic of course," Mina said. "But I have even more faith in you, Tails."

"Who me?" Tails asked, shyly rubbing his head. "Well, I'm no Sonic."

"That's not a bad thing," Mina said.

"She's right, you're way more reliable," Fiona commented.

"Fiona, not appropriate," Sally scolded.

"Not to mention Tails, you are pretty much a total package," Mina said, listing traits off using her fingers. "You got the speed, the strength and the smarts to handle Eggman and his army. Also you can fly, something even Sonic can't do."

"Well, he can when he's Super Sonic," Tails said.

"Yes, but he can't be Super Sonic all the time," Mina said. "You're so much more of an upgrade in a way."

"Hey come on now, I'm not much of an upgrade, I'm just me," Tails said. "I am in no way better than Sonic."

"Poor kid, Sonic totally destroyed his self-confidence," Fiona said.

Sally glared briefly at Fiona, but at this point was tired of having to scold her on the subject, "Tails has his talents just like everyone. What matters is that he will do his part to help, he is a Freedom Fighter after all."

"Yeah, sort of," Tails said. "Think of me to you as Spider-Man is to The Avengers. I might do my own thing, but I am always here if you need me."

"I think you're better than Spider-Man too, just saying," Mina said.

"No more comparisons," Sally said. "For now, let's-"

"Ahem..." Mank interrupted. "Did everyone forget about me or something?"

"Oh sorry, twerp, we totally forgot you existed," Fiona teased. "You just fade into the background."

"Fiona, be nice to the Prince," Lanolin scolded.

Sally groaned in annoyance as she focused on her son, "I'm sorry sweetheart, but is this important? We are in the middle of a meeting after all."

"I know you are, but there's just something I really need to inquire with you," Manik said, glancing around the room. "Didn't expect to do it in front of an audience."

"Shall I evacuate everyone, Prince Manik?" Lanolin asked.

"No way, I wanna know what the secret is!" Tangle said.

"Tangle!" Lanolin scolded. "Don't embarrass me!"

Sally groaned in annoyance and turned to her company, "Would you all mind if I had five minutes to talk to my son?"

"That's fine, I can keep the meeting going," Lanolin said.

"Alright, Lanolin is in charge until I get back," Sally said.

"Boo!" Mighty jeered.

"Don't make me eject you from the castle!" Lanolin warned.

"Seriously everyone, please show her some respect," Sally said, earning a boastful smile from the sheep girl. "Lanolin, I'm trusting you with this."

"Thank you my Queen," Lanolin said, focusing on the others. "Alright, let's get down to it. We need some strategies."

As Manik led Sally away, Fiona, keeping an eye out, silently followed the two, though she wasn't alone.

Inside a private room, Sally turned her attention to Manik. "So, what's so important that you needed to speak to me so urgently?"

"Mom...are you aware of something Amy Rose gave my father?" Manik asked. "Some type of bracelet made of seashells?"

"Huh?" Sally scratched her head a second. "Well yes, of course. Amy made them the first time we went to a beach in Japan."

"Do you remember why?" Manik asked.

"Something about a good luck charm," Sally said.

"Has father told you about them?" Manik asked.

"I didn't need to be told, I remember that she made one..." Sally thought back a moment. "Well I do remember they got smashed by Robotnik. But I think Sonic fixed them up. Guess he's a bit superstitious."

"Is it really a beach thing? Or a swimming thing?" Manik asked. "Because I saw him with it earlier today. He seemed worried when Tangle knocked the bracelet off of him."

"Sonic is just protective of his stuff, it's no big deal," Sally said.

"Did he have them while he was married to you?" Manik asked.

"I guess he did?" Sally asked. "Manik, where are you going with this?"

"Father had a special charm that Amy Rose made for him, that he always wears, even when he was married to you!" Manik said. "Doesn't that sound suspicious!?"

"Manik, you're just imagining it," Sally said. "Look, I really need to go."

"But mother!" Manik said, holding onto Sally's wrist. "Surely you understand what this means! Even during your marriage father preferred Amy Rose over you!"

"Manik that's enough!" Sally scolded.

"It's not enough! I want to know what was so special about that damn bracelet that my father felt compelled to wear the stupid thing as often as he did!" Manik shouted, fury coming to his eyes. "Did he even care about us!? About you!? About me!? Or were we just some practice family so he can run off with that bimbo!?"

"Will you shut up!" Sally shouted, raising her hand in a backslap motion, startling Manik. Fortunately Sally caught herself before she did anything, the girl looking on in disbelief over what she nearly did.

Just the look of fear in her son's eyes made her feel like a terrible person. While Sally has physically disciplined Manik, she never did much outside of spanking, aside from some head lumps, which were never hard.

"Manik..." Sally did her best to hold in her tears, her son should not see her cry after all. "I'm sorry...I would never hurt you." She pulled the boy in for a hug. "I love you, you're my whole world. I'm so sorry."

Manik had no response, he just slowly but surely returned his mother's hug. He didn't care about the bracelet at the moment, right now he was just grateful to have the affection he desired from his mother, and held it as long as he could.

Outside Fiona had her ear to the door, the girl looking incredibly sympathetic. Much as she likes to tease Manik, hearing him and Sally having this moment just fueled her hatred toward Sonic.

"Fiona?" Tangle said, startling the girl.

"Geez, you've been taking sneaking lessons from Whisper or something?" Fiona asked.

"Sorry, I was just curious," Tangle said. "I'm worried about Sally."

"Well you should be, her life is still miserable because of that scumbag she calls an ex-husband," Fiona said. "It sounds like Sonic wasn't totally faithful to Sally during their marriage."

"But...Sonic's better than that, isn't he?" Tangle asked.

"Tangle, I know you think Sonic's cool, but he's not," Fiona said. "One difference between him and Scourge is that at least Scourge doesn't hide the fact that he's a piece of garbage. Sonic however, he's lower than garbage."

"What should we do?" Tangle asked.

"For now, don't mention anything to Sally, she's still pretty sensitive about the whole thing," Fiona said. "But, we're going to expose Sonic, one way or another."

"What about fighting Robotnik?" Tangle asked.

"Honestly, I think we need to stop relying on Sonic, and let Sally move on," Fiona said. "Anyway, we should get going."

Fiona and Tangle went along for the moment, a lot of preparation for the future, no longer limited to Robotnik, but the future of Mobotroplis and its royalty.
