When Charlie got to Truham he looked all over the courtyard. He was looking for that one person he knew could make his day better without even having to say a word. The person who made him feel safe and warm more than anything else could. That person was his boyfriend Nick Nelson. As he searched he walked to the middle of the courtyard hoping to get a better look from there, but he was nowhere to be found. A frown took over Charlie's face. Nick was always at school before Charlie was because he was the most punctual of the two. Charlie being here first had only happened once before so this was rare.
He looked once more but with his boyfriend not in sight he turned to his phone. Logically he knew that this was nothing. Maybe Nick's alarm did not go off or he was just inside talking to one of the teachers about making up a test from when he was sick. But the more anxious side of him was freaking out. What if he was in a car crash or he got beat up by a group of random tall buff men? The ladder was a little less probable because he basically was a tall buff man himself and not the easiest target but you never know.
He pulled up the Instagram app and went to his and Nick's DMs. He was about to send a text when he heard a voice from across the field. He looked up and finally saw him. Dressed in the mandatory school uniform but still looking as amazing as ever. They locked eyes and did a small wave at one another. Charlie was about to start the walk over to him when Nick just started running. The wind blew his hair back. Charlie laughed at his boyfriend's antics before running to meet him in the middle like in a cheesy romcom.
When they got to one another they crashed into a huge hug. Arms encompassing one another. Both could not help the huge grin that spread on their faces. They stayed in that bone-crushing hug for another minute before releasing, still in the other's personal space though. "Hi," they said at the same moment causing them both to fall into a fit of uncontrollable giggles. The bell rang not long after sending them into more laughter for some reason. "Okay, we need to head inside now." Nick grabbed Charlie's hand intertwining them before he started the journey inside.
"Hey, why were you not at school before me? You always arrive before me," Charlie asked Nick once they took their seats side by side. "Oh, I forgot to set my alarm this morning and slept in a little later," he had this small almost guilty smile on his face that just made Charlie's heart flutter. "Then my mum came and loudly woke me up." Charlie burst into laughter for the third time that day only stopping when the teacher told him to. "Oh, how I would have paid to see that go down."
