Ariadne smiled down at the new badge that was in her final Hogwarts letter. She was made Head Girl. She had worked hard for it. She wondered who Head Boy was. She had a feeling that it was Scorpius' brother-in-law, Hugo. He barely talked to her, she wondered if he was going to speak to her this term because they were both Head Boy and Girl. Ariadne knew that there was one way to find out.
Ariadne made her way across the field where her brother and wife were living with their new baby. Ariadne loved her new nephew. He was only four mouths old and the light of every grandparent. She knew that Jason was born into a loving family.
She knocked on the back door because Rose and Scorpius rarely use their front door. She didn't have to wait long until her brother opened the door. Scorpius let her in before hugging her. "How's my baby sister?"
Ariadne made her way into the house and didn't see Rose or Jason anywhere. "I'm good. Where is Rose and Jason?" She asked.
"Sleeping," Scorpius' face lit up as he thought about his wife and son.
"Oh," Ariadne saddened. She didn't know if she was going to find out if Hugo was Head Boy or not. "I'll come back later," She headed for the door.
"What didn't you want to see your older brother?" Scorpius laughed.
Ariadne laughed. She just realized that she didn't see her brother a lot this past summer. He was either working or spending time with his family. It was still hard to believe that her brother was a family man. Anyone could see that he loved his family and wouldn't let anything happen to them.
Rose would have told her husband if Hugo was made Head Boy and she could get it out of her brother as much as Rose. She decided to start with the new news. "I was made Head Girl," She smiled.
"That great," Scorpius reached over and hugged her. He let her go. "Rose just found out that Hugo was made Head Boy."
"That is great," Ariadne forced a smile. She was going to have to work with Hugo all year long.
Scorpius raised an eyebrow. He knew her too well to believe her smile. It was something that sucked about being close to your siblings. "Is everything okay with you and Hugo?" He asked. Ariadne knew that her brother was close to Hugo. She wondered if he would fight Hugo because he could break her heart.
"Yeah," Ariadne mumbled. Scorpius frowned and folded his arms. He still didn't believe her. "It's just that Hugo and I have barely talked since your wedding."
"That was a year ago," Scorpius was shocked. He thought that Ariadne got along just fine.
"I know," Ariadne mumbled.
"What happen between you?" Scorpius asked.
"I don't want to talk about it," Ariadne smiled. Her brother didn't need to know that Hugo and Ariadne kissed. That Hugo felt nothing while she felt her whole world shake.
"If you need me to beat the crap out of him, I would no matter how much I like him," Scorpius smiled. "I could get Hector to help, too." Hector was their cousin who just broke up with the one woman who had his heart.
Ariadne had to wonder what the members of the Weasley family had over them. She thought that Hector should have never broken up with Roxanne. She was his soulmate. "No, your wife might hurt you then," Ariadne smiled.
Scorpius made a face that had Ariadne laughing. "I think that you should talk to him especially if you have to work with him this year."
Ariadne nodded. She knew that her brother was right. "Thank you," Ariadne hugged her brother before leaving.
Ariadne paced the head compartment, waiting for Hugo. She didn't get a chance to talk to him last night because their family was celebrating them becoming heads at Hogwarts. He spent most of the night with his male cousins and her male cousin. The only time she got to speak to him was when his grandmother brought out a cake congratulating them on becoming Head Boy and Girl. He congratulated her in his deep voice. She congratulated him too. They cut the cake, and each ate a piece before leaving the other. Ariadne spent the rest of the night with Lily.
The compartment opened and Hugo walked in. He was in jeans and a tee shirt, on the shirt was some muggle band that he liked. He took a seat on one of the benches. "Good morning, Ariadne," He said as he closed his blue eyes. She took in his red hair that was touched too long. She wondered if his mother wanted him to cut his hair, but he ignored her because he was of age now.
"We need to talk, Hugo," Ariadne crossed her arms and stared him down.
Hugo opened one blue eye. "About what?"
Ariadne wanted to talk about them, but they needed to talk about the perfects and what their schedule should be. "We need to make a schedule for the perfects," She wanted to add to it, but she couldn't.
"Make the schedule and I'll agree to everything. I'm a little hungover," Hugo gave his famous half smile that would make any girl's heart melt. Ariadne knew that it did it for her.
"Are you sure? I could put Lily with that fifth year that has crush on her," Ariadne smiled wickedly. "I could put all the blame on you."
Hugo narrowed his eyes at her. "You wouldn't," He knew that his cousin was friends with Ariadne.
"I would," Ariadne just kept on smiling. Hugo swore. "Now what would your mother say."
Hugo signed. "Fine bring out the schedule," Ariadne brought out parchment and a quill. "The only request that I would like to make before we start working on it, is we put people with someone from another house."
Ariadne smiled. "I agree," It was something that their siblings did, and the last year Head Boy and Girl didn't do it.
They worked on the schedule for the next half an hour. After they made the schedule, they went to the perfect compartment and gave them the schedule. They could tell who the new blood was and the others that have been doing it for the past two years. They left the perfects to start paroling the train and went back to the head compartment.
Ariadne watched as Hugo took a seat again and closed his eyes. "Oh, no, you don't get away from me that easily," She hissed at him.
Hugo opened his eyes and stared at her. "What the hell are you talking about?"
"We have barely said two words to each other since we kissed at our siblings' wedding. You used to be my friend, now I barely can get words out of you. We have to work together this year and I would like a few more words out of you than what I been getting. I get it. You don't want to be with me, but don't cut me off. Even if we didn't work, we are going to see a lot of each other because our siblings are married." It felt good to get it off her chest.
Hugo didn't say anything for a moment. "I'm sorry, I didn't want you to get your hopes up on me."
"Is there ever going to be a us?" Ariadne asked.
Hugo's eyes sadden. "No."
Hugo didn't need to know that he broke Ariadne's heart into a million pieces. Ariadne was going to pick up each piece and put it back together for someone who would love her. She swallowed the lump in her throat. "Okay, can we still be friends?"
Hugo smiled. "Yes."
