Chapter 2: Rebirth

Naruto slept.

What Naruto didn't know is that while he slept his body was slowly changing. For twelve years the Nine-Tails, or rather its chakra, had been slowly dripping into his chakra network since he was born. Causing a physical and spiritual imbalance due to the nature of the eight trigrams seal; However, due to the deal made by Naruto, the Kyuubi has been removed from his body and replaced with a new power.

Nothing good came from imbalance. Naruto, due to having the yang half of the Nine-Tails sealed within him, was overflowing with physical chakra a major deficit of yin- or spiritual chakra.

This stunted his body in several ways.

It was because of this that he was so hyper. It was because of this that he was unable to control his chakra like others were able to. Considering he had to subconsciously overcome the imbalance that was his overabundance of yang chakra, it was no wonder simple jutsu escaped him. He was, unknowingly, having to siphon out the massive amount of extra yang chakra, to bolster his lacking yin side and somehow arrive at the ratio to perform jutsu.

But now that the Nine-Tails chakra that had been slowly dripping into his network since he was born was removed. It allowed Naruto's body to reach his natural equilibrium of mind and body, yin and yang. It allowed his soul, his and of all the new power, to fight back and bring forth all its potential after being denied since his birth.

Naruto didn't know this, no one knew this, but he had just been blessed with tremendous power replacing the old while slowly siphoning inside of him. It was there just out of reach for his whole life due to the imbalance of his chakra.

Allow something to happen that had been impossible ever since Naruto was a newborn.

All the chakra and power that was in his body was wholly his own.

The leaves and trees swayed heavily, and lightning clouds in the sky started to move closer toward the center of Konoha. As thunder echoed through the land, Animals and other entities ran on instinct. All of nature knew that a metamorphosis was taking place. It was as if the entire world was welcoming Naruto's rebirth.

What Naruto didn't know was that the deal he made didn't just come with power it came with new and old enemies alike.

XxX

Distant images chased themselves through his mind as he dreamed, from atop a mountain surrounded by marble columns, the familiar sound of thunder and lightning echoing through the vast expanse of land. Children wailed. Indistinct figures raced below him, calling for loved ones. Marble stone crumbled like dirt, from the rising tide. Corpses were devoured on sight by locus with never-ending hunger. Green Flames roared and ate away at everything it touched. Dark clouds blotted the sun as the day turned black as night. Everywhere he looked the world suffered. The dead arose anew as if rejected by death. Souls howled and wailed begging to be ferried to see a judge that was gone. Men and women fought valiantly, in strange armor against strange beasts and creatures, that defied creation itself. Then it arose a being made of earth, covered from head to toe with trees, it had a full and shapely figure. Impossibly large and more powerful than anything he could imagine, it slaughtered man and beast alike with punitive ease. As if everything around it was nothing but ants waiting to be crushed beneath her boot. He saw it all, viewing the world through a shroud, watching as the mountain he called home crumbled under the combined forces.

Wake up.

He had to wake up.

He needed to wake up. But with consciousness alluding him, then came the comforting rumble of thunder along with a change of scenery.

On some level the boy knew this must be a dream-worse, a nightmare- yet he found himself powerless to stir despite it. He was hit with a strange feeling of Deja Vu. The familiar yet unrecognizable scene that played out in front of him, was like seeing an old friend you lost contact with 20-something years ago.

There were sounds of groaning and grunting all around him, but Naruto barely registered this. All he could focus in, on was the feeling of being forced down somewhere, until finally, a couple of seconds later, he felt himself being pushed out of the enclosed space he was in.

Naruto could feel the cool air brushing against his skin, he could feel the light of the sun blessing him with its warm touch. he felt soft hands take hold of his body, as they quickly cradled him into their arms.

Even as the dead last of his class, Naruto understood that even having cugn…cogn… what was the word Sakura used again? oh yeah! cognition at least he hoped that was the word she used. Cognition as a newborn baby was unheard of.

Slowly opening his eyes, which adjusted to the light nearly instantaneously, Naruto found his gaze looking at a baby-sized rock wrapped in the softest-looking cloth he had ever seen.

Slowly turning his gaze upwards as he felt an arm tuck against the back of him, Naruto found himself staring eye to with one of the most beautiful women he'd ever seen. Wearing what looked like a turret crown over her head, whilst her silky chestnut brown hair was done up in a bun. Her eyes were dark and full of warmth, it shone with the same look he saw on Kiba's mom when she used to come and pick him up from the academy. Her face was well-rounded and pale-skinned, with a small nose, delicate-looking cheekbones, and pinkish-red lips that held a radiant smile, full of worry.

Looking all around, all that met his vision was a weird-looking rock that the woman was propped up against, the brown tunic she wore, and a cliff-side that led out into the stunning blue sky around him, they had some clouds shifting about whilst the sun bore down on the land with its grandiose rays of light.

The woman giggled a small bit at his antics, which brought his antics back to her as she leveled a motherly, loving gaze at him. "My handsome baby boy, you will become the greatest among all of us, and Usher in a new era of peace and prosperity." She gushed, her voice as rich as honey, and carrying an air of maternal pride.

"My last child…I won't let him take you" she muttered, assuring him and mostly herself that she would crush the world if it meant saving her last son. And for some strange reason, Naruto believed without a shadow of a doubt. Even though every time she uttered his name some strange type of static filled his ears.

But as the strange dream continued, he felt a vibration shake the very ground his mom was standing on.

"Oh no, no, no, no. Damn it!" Quickly jumping to her feet, her smile becoming strained as she brought a hand up to his chest. A glow permeated off her palm, as he went from being stark naked to being enveloped in a blanket similar to the baby-shaped rock.

"RHEA WHERE ARE YOU!" A gravelly voice boomed, reverberating through the lands and his very soul. Filling him with deep dread.

Kissing him on his forehead, the woman now known as Rhea, quickly raised him to the sky. A giant eagle swooped down grasping him in its surprisingly gentle clawed grip, making haste to an island only known to a select few.

But as the eagle sped off, Naruto glanced back at Reah, and the creature now approaching her. Somehow, he knew what would happen; yet he was nothing but an observer, thus helpless to do anything but watch as the scene played out to its inevitable conclusion. He wanted this damn bird to turn around, his very being ached in pain. But he was nothing but a helpless spirit inside of a baby.

To witness as the very ground caved where the eldritch Titan was stomping. To witness as the man-like beast loomed over Rhea. taking her and the rock in its giant hand, raising it above his head. Tilting his head back the creature parted his lips opened its mouth and let go swallowing Rhea and the rock whole.

Then it turned its gaze towards him and reached out.

XxX

"Ack!"

Jolting awake Naruto was left gasping for air as he was sent, tumbling off the lump of bricks that was his sad excuse of a mattress. He crashed onto the cold floor drenched in sweat and a breathless mass of sheets and tangled limbs. Resting on the ground for a couple of moments.

'What sort of monster was that? It was like something out of those horror movies overheard some of the kids in his class talking about. Is it some sort of friend of the nine-tails and who the hell is Rhea? And how the hell did I get home?' Pushing his thoughts to the back of his mind, Naruto untangled himself from the blankets, calming his racing heart in the process.

Naruto pushed up from the floor noticing that it was a little farther than usual. He stumbled his way through his messy apartment, making sure not to step on the empty ramen cups randomly strewn about. One hand cleared his eyes from sleep, while the other grabbed a pair of boxers and a towel, departing towards his bathroom, while ignoring the neatly folded paper on top of a blue head protector sitting atop the coffee table in his living room.

As Naruto reached around the room for the light switch, he felt a small tingle coming from the tips of his fingers guiding him toward the switch, He ignored the strange feeling and quickly hopped in the shower, taking his sweet time because he had nothing better to do as the academy is out on break.

20 minutes later dirt and grime-free, Naruto stepped out of the shower. Quickly brushing his teeth, he wiped the condensation off the mirror to examine himself.

The first thing he noticed was his eyes, where before they were sapphire blue, it was now replaced with glowing electric blue with what looked like storm clouds lurking beneath. I mean they were still blue but now they had an unnatural glow about them, his face still had hints of baby fat, but it was more squared and regale. He was even a little taller before he was about 4'9 and was the shortest kid in the class, he now stood at a respectable 5'3. He was even a bit stockier.

Finally, he looked at his cheeks and what he saw surprised him. His trademark whisker marks were white.

'The was no way what the hell happened…my beautiful whiskers Now people are going to think I'm even more of a freak,' letting out a little sniffle, at the thought of his former black whiskers.

Slapping himself on both of his cheeks to get himself to gather. "Alright! You can't become the greatest Hokage if a little birthmark changing colors is going to make you cry," he muttered, poking his cheek in the process while looking in the mirror and noticing a couple of strands of silver hair, made him lean in a little closer to the mirror while pulling parting his hair he noticed that his roots had small splotches of grey spread randomly throughout his.

"What the hell!" Then it hit him like a stray kunai. That strange box from last night! That must be it after opening it, he couldn't remember anything from last night.

Rushing into his living room, Naruto finally spotted the note folded over the worn forehead protector. Quickly opening it.

'Good morning, Naruto, it is with great pleasure that I welcome you to shinobi force as the newly promoted Genin of Konoha. You are set to return to the academy in one week to be picked up by your Jonin-sensei. So, train hard in preparation for the journey that lies ahead of you. Also, the protector is a gift from Iruka off his very head, as a graduation present. Cherish it and may the will of fire guide and burn bright inside you as it did us.

Sincerely your Jiji'

"Yatta!" Unable to control the joy and elation he felt, Naruto let out a scream that probably awoke his whole apartment complex. In a burst of energy, Naruto ran around his apartment trying to find anything that would fit him, because of his considerable growth spurt, unable to find anything of value he just settled on a pair of orange cargo shorts and a black t-shirt with his trademark red spiral. Grabbing a pouch kunai and a pair of black ninja sandals. Naruto set off toward his favorite training ground. Mentally noting that he needed to stop by shop and order new clothes or something cool like armor.

XxX

The training ground was a portion of land located inside of Konoha. There is a view of mountains in the landscape and a large and deep river with forests on both sides. There is a glade in its center, where there are three stumps lined side by side.

In the middle of the training field was a sweaty and dirty Naruto, He had a week to wait out before he was to be at orientation, and he had nothing to do. So right now, he was figuring out what was his weakest subjects. While doing 400 hundred push-ups, 400 squats, 400 sit-ups. And right now, that was everything. Chakra control, Genjustu, Ninjutsu, and even taijutsu was what he was the best at.

"You need to get all of the Academy katas down and finish learning the taijutsu. First, you must master the physical parts of the ninja arts. What would you do if you were running low on chakra, in a situation where stealth is a must."

In the academy, Iruka always told him he needed to finish learning the taijutsu. Naruto always assumed he was passable in taijutsu because he was. It was the only thing he decisively passed no matter what in the academy because it didn't require him to learn anything or pay too much attention. All the attention he paid was in the beginning when they went over the simplest basics provided, how to punch and kick. That was it. He knew nothing else formal about it. Not how to dodge and parry, not even how to prop He never even really got reprimanded in taijutsu class because more often than not when they would spar, he would win.

He couldn't beat kids like Kiba or that asshole Sasuke, but pretty much everyone else he was able to at the very least ha against, because he launched an assault right when the fight would start, even when he got hit he would just work on it, counting on the fact that he could take more punches than his opponents. His style was no style, he was a hard-no brawler and it had suited him fine to this point.

But that was the problem-fighting Mizuki showed him that there was more to fighting than a little bit of power. You must have strength, speed, technique, and conviction to put an enemy down. But last night he didn't have that he hesitated. Which almost cost him his life and more importantly Iruka's.

But he promised that he would try… that and he didn't have anything to do and it was too late to go out and run amok. What he forgot was that he had never bothered to even keep his stuff together from the Academy. When he got homework or some other handout that he didn't do right there on the spot it usually got forgotten among some clutter, and he hadn't touched anything on taijutsu in forever.

So, what he decided to do after he finished his workout was sit in the field and meditate. Iruka always harped that the best way to get a better feel on your chakra was to meditate. He did just that one leg over the other, hands resting on his lap palm up. If you ask his peers hell even him, that one day Naruto of his own volition would sit still and not move an inch. They would laugh you out of the room, then look around to see if it was one of his elaborate pranks.

But there he was all alone with nothing but nature surrounding him. He could feel the wind sweep through his hair as its soft breeze caressed him as if he were an old lover. He could hear the tree branches swaying along as if dancing to their own beat, along with the sounds of the forest critters scurrying home to rest for the night. Finally, he smelt the beautiful enrapturing smell of ozone… Wait ozone? He took a deep breath in through his nose to confirm his suspicion.

Slowly opening his eyes to the sight of tiny blue dots popping over his palms. Jumping up, his concentration disappearing along with the sparks. "Shit" quickly trying to bring out the electricity to no avail. That's how he spent the next couple of hours before going home.

The rest of his night awake was spent with him digging all over the apartment for his stuff on the Academy taijutsu.

When he had woken up the next morning two hours were spent with him retrieving the rest of his scrolls on taijutsu and trying to figure out how to activate his cool lightning powers. By the time he had finished that and had some breakfast he was too bored to just sit in his apartment a read them.

Deciding to kill two birds with one stone he left the house in search of somewhere interesting that could help him hold his attention long enough to get to the practical application of the academy taijutsu because after learning basic stance and punches and kicks Iruka went into lecture mode for about a month after that, killing Naruto's buzz so to speak and letting his attention on the matter drop.

'At least this time I can skip all the boring stuff and just learn the cool moves in the scroll. Maybe try to add cool lightning into the style' Naruto thought to himself as he walked through the village. He held the scroll in his hand, looking at it as he navigated the village streets on autopilot.

He didn't really need to keep his eyes ahead of him, people usually always gave him a wide berth when he was going anywhere, something he didn't really understand, but that was the way it had been for as long as he could remember. That was cool all he had to do was show them how awesome he was and then everything would change, which was going to happen any day now that he was finally a ninja. Kids would be asking him for autographs, he'd hear people reference his greatness even in conversations where his name wasn't even in the topic, and appraising eyes would be on him every time he went into public. Yep, he couldn't wait.

'I can't wait to show them how much ass I kick! I've got to learn this taijutsu so I can get started! Then I'll be one step closer to them looking at me like a god among mortals.'With a huge grin on his face, Naruto didn't even realize that his thoughts were going to be the start of something greater than he ever wanted. As sped off toward the verdant forest of Konoha.

XxX

Naruto was incredibly disappointed when he finally reached his spot in the forest where he had chosen to train. The Academy taijutsu scroll only had a few basics; how to throw textbook punches, kicks, how to block to minimize damage, how to your opponent telegraphing an attack, just those basics. The most advanced thing in the scroll he found was how to t and that was where that little hint of instruction stopped with the words 'from here utilize advanced grappling knowledge. Basic boxing for beginers.' When the hell had they gone over that? And why didn't he have a scroll on it?

Naruto growled and stood up to go through the motions that were actually provided in the instruction on the scroll as he knew those things actually except for the punches and kicks. Blocking was harder to get seeing as he needed a training partner. And then he proceeded to slam his head off a tree as he realized that he had taken that stupid box. Instead of the built-in training partner from the jutsu in the Scroll of Seals.

"AHHHHHHHHHH!" Letting out a guttural scream of frustration that echoed on for miles, sending birds and other forest critters scurrying for safety. Left alone in the dead silent forest. Which was a strange experience for Naruto, he knew he screamed loud enough to scare off a few birds. But even the crickets stopped making noise, leaving him with the loudest sound being his very thoughts and the crunching of his footfalls on the leaves beneath his foot.

'What was it Sensei said. When the forest goes silent there's a pre—' Interrupting Naruto's thought a hauntingly ghoulish moan echoed through the forest.

"UUUURRGHH"

Raising his fist in the direction he heard the sound in, with a look of grim determination, "Who's there? Come out now before I make you." Naruto announced lightning dancing on his fist. He didn't know what it was that caused his lightning to awaken again but he wasn't going to question it.

What finally came out from the depths of the woods, gradually walking towards him was a creature made from nightmares. It was a demonic skeleton with bits of decaying flesh clinging to its bones it had some type of helmet with a pontiff on its head. It was armed with a large glowing sword in its loose but somehow tight grip.

"I don't know what kind of shit hole you crawled out of. But if you're going to take your sweet time. Why don't I come to you!" Taking an amateur boxing stance while bouncing on the balls of his feet, Naruto rushed forward in a chakra-enhanced dash.

Ducking under the slow-moving slash aimed at his head, Naruto let loose three lightning-encased blows to the creature's stomach. The first two punches turned its unprotected ribs to dust, while the third blow breached past dead skin, into its cold body crushing its liver in the process.

Blood spewed from the mouth of the monster as its body was launched into the air from Naruto's inhuman strength. Leaping into the air and palming the monster's armored skull, their combined weight embracing gravity once more as they shot to the ground skull first. Sending blood, and brain matter shooting the cracks in the creature's helmet.

Releasing his grip on the now-dead monster skull, Naruto backed up slowly checking over his handy work, while also making sure it was dead. Suddenly turning to gold dust, the creature disappeared. The only evidence left of it was the blood on Naruto's hands and the specs of brain matter strewn about the ground.

Almost relaxed in his stance, until he heard the same haunting moan, but the only difference was that this time the voice was coming from multiple directions surrounding him from all sides. Spinning around Naruto spotted the same creature, five of them in total each one with a different weapon and one even had a bow!

'What the hell are these things? and where did they even come from? Is someone attacking Konoha? I gotta get back and warn gramps.' So lost in his thoughts. Naruto barely reacted in time to the arrow blasting past his face. Reaching into his pouch for a couple of kunai, Naruto launched one toward the undead with the bow hitting it dead center in its forehead sending it off its feet.

Racing forward Naruto rushed the closest one near him knocking its head off its shoulder with a lightning-infused uppercut. Spearing the third one and picking it up off its feet, using its body as a shield to protect himself from the newly arisen bow wielder that was still shooting at him even though it had a kunai buried in its head.

"Damn it! WHY WON'T YOU JUST DIE!" Naruto roared. Switching his grip from holding the struggling creature around the waist to gripping its leg in both hands in one swift move. Naruto spun around swinging the creature in a circle, hitting three of the monsters. The force instantly turned them into dust. While finally launching the monster at the bow wielder sending both back to the hell they crawled out of.

"What the hell was that?" he muttered to himself once more. Not expecting an answer from anything in his vicinity.

"It's an Undead Legionnaire" A familiar deep voice whispered in his ear.

The sudden voice almost made him jump in surprise. Glancing around but not seeing anything, Naruto almost called out but decided against it. Not wanting to attract any more attention from the "Legionnaire" as the voice called it. But pushing that to the back of his mind Naruto raced towards Konoha in a rush to warn the Hokage.

XxX

Racing through Konoha, he noticed that the once-bustling streets filled with street vendors selling their wear, and civilians and shinobi alike moved through the streets going about their daily activities. While merchants hollered out selling and trading their merchandise.

Now it was almost as empty as a ghost town, with the occasional civilian hurrying home in a semi-panicked state. Finally seeing the Hokage tower Naruto saw messenger birds arriving and leaving at frantic pace.

Picking up his pace Naruto burst through the tower doors. And was greeted with complete chaos, the tower lobby was full of chunin and Jonin coming and going. Some were approaching the mission assignment desk and others were just leaving; he could have sworn he even saw Anbu taking missions, but that could have been his imagination playing tricks on him.

But ignoring all that Naruto raced past all the chaos swerving in and out of traffic as to not accidentally bumping a ninja on an emergency.

Rushing up the stairs toward the Hokage office. Pushing open the door Naruto was greeted with a large, somewhat oval room filled with stacks of paperwork. Behind the Hokage's desk is a large window that was open to allow the messenger birds through. It was also so the Hokage could survey the entire village. On the desk itself is a stylized kanji for shadow (影, Kage) followed by the symbol of the village.

Sitting behind the large oak desk was the Sandaime Hokage, A disciple of the village's two previous Hokage, Hiruzen was a powerful ninja, hailed as a "God of Shinobi". Though he was only ever directly the teacher of the Sannin, generations of Konoha shinobi benefited from his wisdom during his lifetime. He was wearing the customary hat and haori with a red, full-length kimono that was tied using a white sash.

He wasted no time in addressing what he had been through. "JIJI WERE UNDER ATTACK BY UNDEAD LEGIONNAIRES!"

"Yes, Naruto-Kun I know that, and I appreciate the information, but we are not under attack. I just put the village on lockdown until we get a handle on the situation." The Hokage responded unfazed by the outburst.

Scrunching his face "Eh… Then how did I get inside the village so fast? Wouldn't the gates be closed or something?" Naruto questioned while scratching the back of his head.

Shaking his head in amusement at the antics of his grandson. Hiruzen pulled his pipe from inside the desk, lighting it with a small flame from the tip of his thumb. Puffed his pipe with a deep inhale before answering the boy he saw as a grandson. "Naruto all civilians and shinobi chakra are registered with the barrier squad. Now how do you know what these Legionnaires are? Tell me everything you know." Now in the famous mode that granted him the title of god of shinobi, he left no room for arguments.

If he was surprised by Naruto's new appearance, Naruto was 100 years too early to tell. He gave as clear and concise a report as he could. Naruto stood at attention waiting to be dismissed.

Turning around to look out the window, Hiruzen observed his still village. Before taking a deep inhale of his tobacco pipe. The atmosphere in the room was strong enough to suffocate an untrained shinobi. He decided to just tell Naruto the news.

"Naruto"

Perking up at the sound of his name, Naruto gave the old man his full attention.

"There's no easy way to let you know this, but Iruka is dead."
