Chapter One

(Just under 10 years later…)

Date: Saturday 22nd June 2013

Time: 9:00pm

Location: Thomas Ewen High School, Chamberlain, Maine, USA

Carrie was being guided and walking up to the gym hall prom stage, as she and her prom date: Tommy Ross, had been announced as the king & queen of the prom. Tommy was one of the popular boys in the school, who was also boyfriend to one of the popular girls: Sue Snell. Unbeknown to Carrie, Tommy had taken her to prom, because Sue had asked him to, as an act of kindness and redemption, due to her involvement with when Carrie had a meltdown, when she thought she was bleeding to death after gym class, when she was having her first period. Despite Carrie's pleas for help, all the girls in her class, led by Chris Hargensen, just laughed at her, and threw tampons at her, while all chanting 'Plug it up', as Chris recorded it on her phone, which she later uploaded onto the internet…

Even at home, Carrie's life was no different to how it was at school… Carrie's mother: Margaret White, was a mentally unstable religiously fanatical Zealot, who believed everything was sinful, and would punish her daughter, even when she never did anything wrong, by hitting her with bibles' or locking her in the 'Prayer Closet', making her pray for forgiveness…

Chris's video was seen by the school gym teacher: Rita Desjardin, who she, and the school principal: Henry Morton, punished the girls responsible for the video, with longer gym classes as part of their detention, anyone who refused, who be banned from attending prom, which is exactly what Chris did, and she was banned from Prom. Chris's father and lawyer: John Hargensen, attempted to sue the school, only so he heard there was evidence against Chris, which she refused to show, either way, she was still banned from prom…

Chris didn't take her punishment well, and plotted revenge… night before prom, Chris went to the local farm, along with her boyfriend: Billy Nolan, and his gang members: Jackie Talbot & Kenny Garson, where they killed a pig and extracted its blood into a bucket…

As Carrie & Tommy were on stage, as everyone clapped and cheered for them, Chris and Billy were right above them, ready to prank Carrie. Sue attempted to get to Carrie & Tommy, to warn them, only for Rita to push and lock her outside the gym hall, giving Chris and Billy their chance, as they yanked the bucket over, causing the blood to fall and splash and splatter all over Carrie, causing everyone to gasp in shock…

"WHAT THE HELL?!" Tommy yelled in anger…

Chris's best friend: Tina Blake, then played the video of Carrie's gym class meltdown, causing nearly everyone to laugh at Carrie… Carrie tried to leave the stage in humiliation, but when Rita tried to reach out to her, Carrie used her secret power, and pushed Rita to the floor, shocking everyone again… unbeknown to Carrie, the bucket came loose from above, and fatally hit Tommy, killing him… mourning over Tommy's lifeless body, realizing this was all a prank, something from within Carrie snapped…

Carrie took out all her lifetime of anger and hatred, upon nearly everyone, by using her powers on them, especially all those who were friends of Chris… Carrie then unleashed a massive shockwave, sending people to the floor or flying, before locking all the fire escape doors… Heather Shyres was fatally smashed into one of the fire escape doors, face first… Carrie then continued to pick off every single student and teacher who wronged her, one by one, even those who hadn't really done anything wrong to her, including Freddy Holt… Jackie and Kenny were crashed by the bleachers while trying to use them to escape, Nicki and Lizzy Watson were pushed over by Carrie's powers, while Carrie activated the water sprinklers, before being trampled to death by people trying to escape… Carrie then ripped some of the electric cables, which caused a fire to spread throughout the hall… Tina was whipped with the electric cables, before her dress caught fire from burning debris, and burning to death… Carrie then grabbed Rita by the throat with her powers, lifting her up off the floor, then dropping the electrical cables onto the watered floor, electrocuting anyone standing within the vicinity… Rita was terrified, thinking Carrie was going to drop her and allow her to be electrocuted too, only for Carrie to throw her to safety on the stage, next to Tommy's body, before Carrie floated out of the school…

As the school was engulphed in flames, Chris and Billy attempted to escape the destruction they had made Carrie commit… As they drove away in Billy's car, Carrie, who had noticed them, cut off their attempt to escape, by destroying the road before them, giving them no choice, but to turn around, to see Carrie ahead of them… Chris urged Billy to run over and kill Carrie, but as they were about to hit her, Carrie used her powers to crash the car, as Billy's face hit the steering wheel, killing him… Chris then tried, but only for Carrie to lift the car off the road, then throw it into the nearby Teddy's Gas Station, as Chris's face went through the windscreen… Carrie then went over to the car, to see Chris's face stuck In the windscreen, with large glass shards, pierced into her face, as she bled to death… as Chris's body stopped functioning, Carrie then walked away, before causing a nearby powerline, to snap and fall on the car, causing it and the gas station to explode…

Carrie trudged along the street, her feet dragging with each step. The journey from Ewen High School to her humble abode on Carlin Street felt like an eternity. The blood from the cruel prank had dried on her skin, hair, and dress, leaving her feeling violated and exposed. She couldn't bear to look at herself, but her trembling hands betrayed her curiosity.

(Later, at the White's residence…)

Carrie stumbled down the street toward her house. For a moment, she's seemingly regaining her senses. Carrie sobbed as she approached the front door...

"Mommy." Carrie cried out. "Mommy. Mommy."

Hurrying inside, Carrie discovered a gaping hole in the prayer closet, large enough for a person to crawl through. Suddenly, she heard creaks upstairs and Carrie climbed the stairs. She looked around, but no sign of her mother was in sight. She went into her own bedroom, only to find it empty.

"Mama? Mama? Mama? MAMA!" Carrie yelled at her mother.

With Carrie's back turned to the hall, Margaret walked past her into her own room unnoticed. Carrie turned off the lights in her room and proceeded into the bathroom. She began to run a bath, removing her dress, and slipped her naked form into the tub. As she splashed some water over her face, adjusting her sight, she seemingly noticed all the blood on her for the first time since prom. She looked at herself in horror, realizing what happened tonight was all real. All the things she'd done, the people she hurt (Whether they were now dead or not), and guilt-ridden by her actions... she started sobbing.

After Carrie's vengeful prom massacre, her lips trembled and her eyes turned watery. Carrie washed her face twice and rubbed her eyes. She looked at her hands, still had blood on her. She tried to get the blood off her and cried for what happened; what she did, mostly. The clean water had turned into a bloodbath. Her knees pressed up to her chest and hugged it closer to her. She rocked back and forth like a traumatised child. All she could do was cry.

"No. No. No." Carrie replied.

Carrie splashed some more water over her face, furiously scrubbing her arms with a full 'Out, out, damned spot!' around every inch of her body. Eventually, she hugged her knees to herself and just cried. When she was finally clean, Carrie left the bathroom in a simple blue nightgown.

"I'm sorry." Carrie whispered upsettingly, shaking her head.

Once she got out of the red bathwater, Carrie wrapped a cream towel and dried herself: face, neck, arms, stomach, legs and feet. She entered her bedroom and took out a baby blue nightie from her drawer. She dropped the towel on the floor and put on her nightie. Then, Carrie walked out of her bedroom, planning to see her mother. The whole house was dead quiet as if it was a good place for a ghost to hang around it.

"Mama?" Carrie spoke like a child and stopped at the edge of the stairs. "Mama?"

Carrie felt a strong presence behind her, someone was behind her. She turned her head and saw a middle-aged woman wearing a long white nightgown. Her auburn hair was down to her breasts and her bleak green eyes were looking at Carrie. Her mother, Margaret.

"Mama." Carrie went to her mother and they hugged each other tightly. "Oh, Mama. You were right. They laughed at me, Mommy. They all laughed at me."

"I knew they would hurt my little girl." Margaret whispered in a sigh, caressing her daughter's damp hair. Then, she confessed to Carrie. "I should have killed myself when he put it in me. We slept in the same bed, lived together sinlessly. Then, one night, I saw him looking at me in that way. And we got down on our knees to pray for strength. And that's when he took me."

"No, Mama." Interrupted Carrie, trying to get away from her but her mother pulled her in closer. "I don't want to hear it."

"And I liked it." Margaret placed her left hand on Carrie's cheek.

"Mama, no." Carrie whispered, begging her mother to stop talking about the conception.

"I should have given you to God when you were born, but…" Margaret admitted. "I was weak and I love you so much." Her green eyes started to tear up. "I said, 'God, let me keep my little girl. Let me keep her."

Tears fell from mother and daughter. Margaret's cold hand still rested on Carrie's warm cheek. Margaret took a breath in as she told her daughter the command in a whisper. "Let's pray."

"Yes, Mama." Carrie replied and kissed her mother's hands. "Yes, we pray."

"I'll be the preacher." Margaret had given herself the role and Carrie knelt on the ground, still gripping onto her mother's hands. "You'll be my congregation." Margaret knelt on the floor and began her prayer. "Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name." They wrapped their arms around each other as she spoke. "They will be done on Earth." She took a kitchen knife out of the hole in the wooden floor. "As it is." the knife rose above her head. "In Heaven."

The knife collided inside Carrie's upper back and her mouth opened, releasing a gasp. A sharp pain rushed through her back and Margaret's grip tightened around the knife handle.

"MAMA!" Carrie shrieked and a strong force pushed them apart: Margaret in her room and Carrie falling downstairs, hurting her back even more.

Carrie landed on her back on the living room floor. Her eyes opened and Margaret walked down on the stairs murderously, the blood-pointed knife in her right hand. Carrie began to move backward while mildly injured.

"Mama, please." Carrie begged while crawling away in pain. "No, Mama. Mama, please."

"This isn't your fault, Carrie. It's mine." Margaret said as she sauntered closer to her child.

"Mommy, this isn't right." Carrie shouted.

"You know the devil never dies. He keeps coming back. You've got to keep killing him. Over and over again." Margaret replied.

"No, Mama." Carrie replied.

"Over and over again..." Margaret concluded, raising the knife.

"Mama, please. MAMA!" Carrie called out.

Margaret lunged for her, but the knife impaled into the floor.

"No! No, Mama." Carrie shouted.

Carrie didn't understand why her mother was acting this way. She knew Margaret was crazily religious but she would never harm her in that way. She dodged the knife as mother and daughter started fighting. Fighting for survival. Knife-slashing, Margaret and Carrie screaming as they fought for dominance until Margaret got on top. The knife blade got closer to Carrie's neck.

"MAMA, STOP IT!" Carrie cried out and pushed her mother up.

Margaret sliced her daughter's arm and Carrie screamed at the large slash. Both green eyes met, and Carrie knew one thing for sure. Her mother tried to kill her and she needed to get out. The knife rose up and a light gleamed at the blade. As the knife quickly dove, Carrie stopped the blade with her power. The blade stopped close to her face. Margaret, using her strength, tried to lower her knife down.

Then, suddenly, Carrie's telekinesis lifted Margaret up and off her body. Knives and needles flew out of their resting place and aimed at Margaret. Her green eyes widened in shock and gasped...

"Carrie." Margaret told her in a whisper, trying to calm her child down.

"I'm sorry." Carrie apologised, as she started to cry.

"CARRIE!" Margaret yelled.

Then, Carrie screamed and Margaret flew to the wall near the prayer closet. Sharp objects flew towards the pinned mother and the blades penetrated her body: hands, chest and stomach. Carrie lifted herself up from the ground and slowly walked to her mother. The blood was draining out of Margaret and she gasped, raising her head. Carrie pulled out all the sharp objects, knives and needles, out from her mother's hands and chest. She held her mother in her arms and gently placed Margaret on the floor. Carrie rubbed her mother's auburn hair as she shushed her dying mother.

"Okay. It's okay. It's okay." Carrie began speaking to her mother. "No one's going to hurt you. No one's going to hurt you."

Margaret stared blankly at her child. Her heart slowly beat and her eyelids closed, hiding her green eyes. Carrie let the tears out from her eyes and hugged the lifeless body tightly. Her mother was dead. Nothing was left for her.

The door creaked open and a young woman entered the White house. Her blonde hair was damp and her blue eyes were watered. She was wearing her casual clothes: navy blue jacket, skinny jeans, a yellow top and a pair of blue tied shoes. She saw the mourning woman cradling her dead mother. Her heart ached for the daughter.

"Carrie?" asked a familiar female voice.

Carrie responded to the voice by turning her head and saw the woman. It was Sue, one of her tormentors at school and was spotted at Prom. Carrie's muscles tensed as her eyes dried.

"Let me help you, Carrie." Sue offered.

"Why couldn't you leave me alone?" Carrie asked while crying & angrily.

"I'm sorry." Sue apologized, crying.

Carrie looked at Sue and her right hand aimed at her. Sue's throat tightened and started to gag while gasping for air. Carrie didn't feel this sadness anymore. The only emotion she felt was anger.

"Look what you turned me into." Carrie whispered, cradling her mother's body and using her power to choke her bully.

"Don't hurt me, Carrie." Sue begged, managing to say through the choke.

"Why not? I've been hurt my whole life." Carrie replied.

Carrie then lets go of Sue and picks up Margaret's body in a bridal style. The house began to creak and rumbled. She continued to cry through her words, speaking to Sue. "I killed my mom. I want her back. I'm scared."

"Carrie, Tommy is alive." Sue replied.

"What?" Carrie asked in concern.

"Tommy didn't die." Sue replied.

"Is Tommy still alive?" Carrie asked in concern.

"Yes." Sue replied.

"Thank God." Carrie replied, as she tears up and smiles.

A large stone fell through the roof. The house rumbled as the raining stones continued to fall upon it. Carrie fell on her knees to the floor, still holding on to the body, as bricks and hailstones fell. The house was falling apart.

"We've gotta get out of here!" Sue yelled and ran towards Carrie, avoiding the falling stones as if she was in a video game. She stretched forth her hand. "Give me your hand. Come on!"

Carrie looked up and sensed that something was odd about Sue. There was something moving inside her body. She led her hand to Sue's stomach and heard a rapid heartbeat. It wasn't threatening, but new...

"It's a girl." Carrie gasped as she told her happily.

"What?" Sue enquired bewilderedly.

"You don't know?" Carrie asked in concern.

Sue's eyes widened in shock as the realization dawned on her. She was going to be a mother, and Tommy wouldn't be there...

"Oh, my God." Sue gasped.

Sue's blue eyes watered. There was new life inside of her. Carrie, with telekinesis, lifted her up from the ground carefully. With her powers, Carrie lifted Sue off the ground...

"Get out!" Carrie screamed. "GET OUT!"

Carrie's eyes blazed with a fierce power as she lifted Sue from the ground. The broken house trembled and stones rained down, but Carrie's strength held firm. With a gentle landing on the grass, Sue watched in helpless awe as her home crumbled before her eyes. Carrie's heart swelled with relief as she saved Sue and her unborn child, but her gaze fell upon her dead mother.

"It's okay." Carrie whispered, pressing a tender kiss to her mother's forehead.

The house collapsed in a deafening roar, burying them both beneath the rubble. Sue's hand instinctively went to her belly as she watched Carrie's home fall to ruin...

(Meanwhile, later…)

Two weeks had passed since the devastating destruction of Chamberlain and the night was still as dark as ever. Sue and Tommy made her way along the storage unit, her left hand clutching a flashlight tightly. They stopped in front of a red storage door, the padlock glinting in the dim light. With a silver key, she unlocked the door and pushed it open, revealing shelves upon shelves of old things and antiques. It was a place where Sue and Tommy's family kept their belongings safe.

As they walked further into the storage room, the beam of light illuminated a figure in the distance. It was a girl, dressed in double denim and converse shoes, with her blonde hair cascading down her back. Despite being in the storage room, her hair looked freshly washed, and her green eyes shone in the light. The girl caught sight of Sue and Tommy and pulled her sleeves down, looking down at the ground.

It was Carrie White, the girl who had miraculously survived the collapsing house. Sue and Tommy had found her among the ruins and had hidden her away in the family storage unit. Now, with the White Commission calmed, Sue could finally help Carrie escape...

"Are you ready?" Sue inquired, and Carrie gave a solemn nod.

Exiting the storage unit, Sue secured the lock with a decisive click. The two women made their way to Sue's car, settling into their respective seats - Sue and Tommy behind the wheel, Carrie in the passenger's seat. As the engine roared to life, Carrie jumped in surprise.

"It's alright, Carrie." Tommy replied.

"It's just the engine. Where shall we venture?" Sue asked in concern.

Carrie's voice was soft and hesitant. "T-The cemetery. I just need to bid goodbye to my mother."

Sue and Tommy's expression softened, and they nodded in understanding. With that, she pulled out of the storage unit and onto the open road.

(Later at the local cemetery…)

The Snell and Ross family storage unit was a mere five miles away from the local cemetery. The clock had struck noon and the world was shrouded in a blanket of silence, save for the occasional rustle of leaves. Despite the tragedy that had befallen the town, people tried to find solace in sleep. But not Carrie, Sue, and Tommy.

The three stood in front of a gravestone, each holding a pristine white rose. Carrie's eyes were fixed on the stone, her gaze unwavering. The night grew colder and darker, as if the universe was mourning with them. The gravestone bore two names - Margaret White and Carrie White.

MARGARET WHITE

1966-2013

CARRIE WHITE

1995-2013

But what caught their attention was the red spray paint that had defaced the gravestone. The words "CARRIE WHITE BURNS IN HELL." were etched in bold letters, mocking the memory of the departed.

Carrie, Sue, and Tommy placed their white roses in front of the damaged gravestone, a symbol of their undying love and respect for the deceased. Carrie's eyes welled up with tears as the gravestone cracked under the weight of her emotions. Her scream echoed through the town of Chamberlain, a cry of anguish that pierced the stillness of the night.

Sue and Tommy placed a comforting hand on Carrie's shoulder and led her away to the car. As they drove away from the cemetery, the stars twinkled in the sky, a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is always a glimmer of hope.

Carrie gazed up at the vast expanse of the night sky, her eyes tracing the constellations as they whizzed by. The car hummed along the open road, carrying her away from the tragedy of Chamberlain. Sue and Tommy sat beside her, the weight of the silence between them palpable.

Finally, Sue stole a quick glance at Carrie before returning her focus to the road. "It wasn't your fault." She said softly, her voice laced with empathy. Carrie turned to her, surprised by the unexpected comfort.

"It wasn't all your fault." Sue amended, sensing Carrie's hesitation.

Carrie's eyes flicked back to the road ahead. "I can't stay in Chamberlain now, can I?" She murmured, her voice heavy with resignation.

Tommy's response was measured. "Well, people thinking you're dead is contingent on nobody's seen you alive."

Carrie's mind raced with the implications of her situation. "Where am I gonna go?" She asked, her voice tinged with desperation.

Tommy's answer was honest, if not entirely reassuring. "I don't know. Somewhere they don't know you."

Carrie's lips pursed as she turned back to the window, her thoughts consumed by the uncertainty of her future. Sue sighed, her heart heavy with the weight of her friend's burden. "We'll drive you as far as Tampa," She offered, "then we have to come back."

The road stretched out before them, a path to a new life. Carrie's heart was heavy with the weight of the past, but she knew she had to keep moving forward. Together, they drove into the night, leaving Chamberlain and its tragedy behind.

"I hope." Carrie sighed and heart heavy.
