New Light

"We need to open a portal now," Purple Amity's voice was loud and clear.

That was when Luz started to panic. She had to say something to prevent it, but uncovering her mouth unleashed her sobs. She couldn't control the volume anymore. She yelled, "Don't!"

"I'll be right there!" she yelled back.

It dawned on Luz what Purple Amity meant. She needed to get out of there now. Remembering her warning, Luz took an extra few seconds to push away the broken glass with a blanket. Then Luz grabbed her red coat, pants, and boots; the bare minimum to go out into public.

She rushed out the front door, palisman in hand, hoping to not run into any doppelgangers. She flew around aimlessly to make sure to double-check she wasn't being followed. Eventually, Luz settled on a rooftop to cry without interruption. Why is Other Luz so damn happy all of the time? Is it because of Purple Amity?

Luz thought of the two. Purple Amity was caring and patient while Green Amity's scary glare made her wince every time. Yeah, they're nothing alike. Life's not fair.

Her phone vibrating broke her concentration. She forgot that it was in a hidden pocket in her coat. She mindlessly checked; it was Willow for the third time. She quickly answered it expecting bad news. "What's wrong?" she asked concerned.

"Luz?! Have you been crying?" she nearly yelled back.

"Yeah,"

"Is it Valencia?" Willow asked.

"No. Kind of. It's nothing, why did you call? Did something happen?"

"Luz…"

"You called first, why?" Luz demanded.

"Well, the Golden Guard chased me down today; I have no idea why and it freaked me out. What would he want with me?" Willow vented.

Luz wrapped her head around what she just said. Then her thoughts shifted to Other Willow. She groaned knowing that her friend was dragged into this mess now. "I think I know why and you're not going to like it," Luz said seriously.

"Just tell me; I can handle it."

"If you insist, I think he wants to get to know you, maybe ask you out."

Willow paused for a moment. "Luz, take this seriously," she murmured.

"I am! It's the reason why the Golden Wife chased me for two weeks!" Luz said without hesitation.

"But," Willow stammered. "Aren't they married?"

"They're probably trying new things,"

"Gross,"

"This is probably because of the other us that I told you and Gus about yesterday," Luz admitted.

Willow was unfazed. Gus thought it was an illusion and that would make sense, but she couldn't explain it without proof. "You can go meet them now. They hacked my crystal orb and are probably at my apartment right now!" Luz stated.

"What?" Willow reacted.

She just casually admitted to being chased out of the apartment. Willow wished Luz started with that. She also forgot to tell her why she was crying, but Willow needs to make sure she was safe first. Willow said enthusiastically, "Let's go meet our doppelgangers."

"They'll love to meet you!" Luz teased.

"I didn't leave my light on," Luz whispered.

Her apartment was completely dark and empty instead of two thin lines of light emitting from her closed bedroom door. The two quietly crept closer and listened intently for a possible ambush. Willow used one hand to open the door and another to cast the first spell, but it wasn't needed.

Luz's bedroom was empty. "It's clear," Willow said as she walked in.

She looked around to check for any other places an intruder could hide. Luz took a few steps inside and immediately dropped to the floor. Willow was perplexed as she watched Luz slither across the floor. She looked up and mouthed the words, the ball.

Before she could respond, another voice called out to them, "Hi!"

Willow glanced up to see a familiar face in the crystal ball despite neither of them answering a call. This must be the illusion her friend was talking about because staring back at her was another Luz. Whoever is behind the illusion got small details wrong. She doesn't have a scar on her eyebrow. She hasn't worn the colors purple and white since she was a teenager. She's also wearing a sparking diamond ring too. Anyone who knows Luz would know that her love life is a huge mess.

"Hi," Willow repeated back.

Illusion Luz took a deep breath and started to explain, "This must be very confusing, but to summarize really quick; I'm Luz from another different timeline. Our two timelines connected a few weeks back when Amity was transported to ours and you don't believe me."

The sudden stop and accusation surprised her. "No, I believe you. Continue with what you were saying," Willow encouraged with a sly smile.

The illusion didn't budge. She replied, "I'm close friends with Willow Park in my timeline and I can tell when she doesn't believe me."

Impressive, the illusion was perspective. Willow wasn't interested in the multi-universe spiel. Willow leaned forward and stated, "Look, all I want to know is what all of this has to do with my friend."

The illusion Luz nodded at the clarification. Her expression became a tad more serious than her neutral smile. "Nothing really; mainly I was trying to reach out and see if she's alright. She's in the room with you, isn't she?" Illusion Luz asked.

Willow couldn't help glancing down at Luz who was silently grumbling to herself. That was enough confirmation for the illusion Luz needed. She rose from her seat and said, "Wait right there, I think can bring someone more convincing."

She ran away leaving the sound of loud footsteps. The two friends used the few seconds to make faces at each other. They confirmed that they were very confused. "Great, you're still here!" the illusion called out for her attention.

Willow looked up to find another Willow beside the other Luz. Her green floral dress looked like something she might wear on a special occasion, but her hair looked like lily pads. The illusion Willow smiled and waved. "Hi there," her tone was softer compared to hers.

Willow raised her hand to wave back but ended up turning off the ball instead. She turned to Luz and said, "That's really creepy."

Luz shot up to her feet and said in agreement, "I know right?! We got to go. They will call back."

She gently led Willow out of the room and closed the bedroom door behind them. Willow wasn't paying attention; she was trying to convince herself that was all an illusion, but it felt too authentic. She asked annoyed, "What did you get yourself into now?"

"It wasn't…!" Luz began her defense.

A blinding, white light burst through the closed door. The two stood there shellshocked as the unnatural light was glittering around them. Both of them bolted for the door, grabbed their palisman, and flew as fast as they could from the scene.

When they stopped in a random alley to catch their breath, both burst out laughing. It's been a while since the two friends have been in sync like that. "So, you don't wanna talk to them either?" Luz asked through long gasps.

"No, it's too weird," Willow answered back.

"Not even to ask who her husband is?" Luz teased.

"Husband? Oh no," Willow groaned as the puzzle pieces were fitting together.

Luz snickered because she spent most of the day doing the same thing. They stared at each other trying to comprehend the bizarre situation they found themselves in.

"Spider's Nest?"

"Spider's Nest."

Amity made sure no one followed behind her or was in earshot as she went to the occupied jail cell. She was there to talk to the wild witches who started a fight and was arrested at the bar, Spider's Nest. The two apprehended were talking and giggling like nothing happened.

The chatter immediately halted when she stepped in front of the bars. She locked eyes with her former childhood best friend. "Amity," she said with a stern voice.

She responded, "Long time, no see, Willow. Where's your friend?"

Willow's firm demeanor immediately cracked with uncontrollable laughter. She's drunk. "She seems to like floors today," she sloppily answered.

Amity wanted to ask what she meant, but a quick glance down was her answer. She found the Red Bandit lying down on the floor with her head facing her and the bars. Amity let out a long sigh and asked, "Why are you on the floor?"

She giggled, reached towards her, and slurred, "Are you here to save the damsel in distress?"

Appalled; she smirked back and answered, "More like the drunken idiot in distress."

Both of them laughed at that. "I can't believe that you two are the same person," Amity muttered.

"The Goofball?" Luz asked.

The Golden Wife bent closer to Luz to lock eyes with her. Hopefully, she'll remember this. Amity stated, "She's also defeated Belos."

"What?"

"How?"

Amity couldn't answer that herself; it was never specified. She vaguely answered, "You should try talking to them."

She started to get up but stopped halfway. Her face filled with blood when she realized something else about Luz. "WHY ARE YOU NOT WEARING A SHIRT?!" she shouted at her.

Luz checked her red coat to see that the zipper was down. Her hands rested above her head when she arched her back revealing more skin and her black lace bra. "So, you noticed," she flirted.

"WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?! WHO GETS ARRESTED DRUNK AND SHIRTLESS?!" Amity yelled.

"I did about ten minutes ago," Luz playfully answered back.

The mood immediately tensed up when a shadow move behind Amity. Their faces hardened again as the newcomer stood beside Amity and offered a hand to help her up. She turned to see the Golden's Guard mask being held by the waist side and glanced up to see Hunter's gap-toothed smile. "There's no need to yell, Amity," he politely said.

Amity took his hand with the dual purpose to get up and making sure he is not another illusion. He's not wearing his white cloak either. What the hell was he up to now?

He turned his friendly gaze to the jail cell. "You're right; we did come here to help," he said.

This was probably the first time they had seen Hunter's face. Their mutual shock was enough proof. They shared a concerned look and Luz spoke, "Thanks, but no thanks. We're fine."

Hunter was disappointed, but he kept the smile up. "You have a plan already?" he asked.

"Wanna see?" she confidently asked back.

Then she patted the floor. The four of them patiently waited for something to happen, but nothing did. "Wait, hold on," she declared.

Luz sat up to pat random spots on the floor around her; slowly becoming frustrated and patting more frequently. Willow sighed into her hand, while the Golden Couple looked at each other not sure what to do or say. "There!" Lux suddenly yelled.

She activated a barely visible glyph a foot from her. When it lit up, a single line came from it, raced to the wall, and activated an amalgamation of glyphs. Then, it exploded; leaving behind a gaping hole in the cell wall.

Two palisman flew in and presented their staff to their owners. "Bye Goldies!" Luz yelled as they flew out of there.

Hunter's smile dropped as he walked over to his staff and cloak to put his full uniform back on. "They could have gotten hurt from that. We have let them walk out," he complained.

"Our other selves' idea?" Amity asked already knowing the answer. "You could have talked to Willow first."

The Golden Guard shook his head and said, "They thought it was a bad idea. Besides, I need all the advice I can get."

That was the most honest thing she heard him say. The others are going to find out about this encounter; thinking about it makes the misfit's face red hot from rage. "I think I need some too," she admitted back.
