Chapter 2 Lucius
Lucius Malfoy was standing in a corner watching everyone mingle. It wasn't that he was snubbed; he just wasn't in the mood to force a smile to his face. It was the fifth Christmas without Narcissa who had been killed when certain DeathEaters found out she had lied to Voldemort about Potter being dead. He hadn't been in love with his wife but she had been his friend and they had been together just shy of twenty years when she died.
After an hour of watching, Lucius, like everyone else, noticed Hermione Granger enter the Hall. It took a moment for Lucius to realize who she was. The last time he had seen the witch, had been just after Draco and his trials which had been a day apart. She had looked tired and malnourished but that hadn't detracted from her fierceness in defending them, much to his surprise and if Draco's look was anything to go by, his too.
It had been the testimony of the 'Golden Trio' that had swayed the Wizengamot to giving both Malfoys house arrest instead of Azkaban. Draco had gotten two years of probation and he had gotten five years. It was irritating to still have his every move monitored but if it meant he stayed out of Azkaban, he'd happily tolerate it.
Lucius couldn't help the small smile as he watched the young witch take in the Great Hall. He even had to admit it had been decorated well, Narcissa would have been proud. To watch Hermione enjoy the whole scene was refreshing. Lucius continued to watch her as she approached her bodyguards. It was entertaining watching their expressions as they greeted each other, a bond made out of fire.
What Lucius hadn't expected was for the lovely witch to lock eyes with him and make her way towards him.

Hermione excused herself from her friends, not really wanting to be around when their witches returned and having to listen to them complain about having to change their dresses. She loved them both but sometimes, she really couldn't relate. However, that wasn't on her mind any longer, no; it was the wizard standing in the far corner, Lucius Malfoy.
He was a wizard among wizards. His looks alone made everyone notice but what caught Hermione's attention was the air of confidence the man now wore. Before, it had been arrogance and disdain but now, he carried himself with quiet confidence and strength. She had learned he had lost his wife shortly after the War and had felt bad for him. She had heard that they hadn't been in love with each other but were very close friends which was more than most arranged marriages could say.
Hermione noticed as she made her way to the handsome wizard that his eyes never left hers. She found herself smiling at him for that. There weren't many wizards that could handle her and all that came with being with her in whatever way. She appreciated Lucius not backing down or playing stupid.

"Miss Granger" Lucius greeted
"Lord Malfoy" Hermione returned.
"Please, it's Lucius for you." Lucius corrected her gently.
"Then, Hermione, please." Hermione had a warm feeling spread through her body as Lucius kissed her hand.
"How are you this eve, Hermione?" Lucius asked, truly curious.
"Very well, thank you. You?" Hermione asked, wanting to know how he had been doing.
"Surprisingly well thanks to you and your friends." Lucius told her honestly.
"I'm glad to hear that." Hermione responded and their conversation flowed until the tables were moved along the walls and the tree moved to behind the Head Table so couples could dance.
"Care for a dance, my lady?" Lucius asked as he held out his hand for her to take and take Hermione did.
"Of course, kind sir." Hermione answered with a curtsy.
As Lucius led them to the floor, he couldn't help but notice the smile on his partner's face, it lit up the entire Hall. While he twirled the vibrant witch across the floor he didn't miss the looks they were getting; some were surprised, some were happy for them while a few others wore looks of outrage but when her two friends with their dates danced next to them, everyone accepted them.
After several hours dancing and enjoying themselves, Lucius offered to apparate Hermione home. Hermione agreed, not wanting the evening to end just yet. Once at her door, Lucius went to bade Hermione a good night when she grabbed the front of his robes and pulled him down for a kiss. When their lips met, their chemistry ignited an inferno neither had ever felt. After parting for some much needed oxygen, Lucius' breath caught at the look in Hermione's eyes, pure desire.
"Witch, now would be the time to enter your abode..." Lucius started.
"Of course" Hermione interrupted as she opened her door and pulled the wizard with her.
"Are you sure, Hermione? I am not a boy interested in a one night stand." Lucius warned her.
"If I wanted a boy or a one-night stand, I wouldn't have approached you, Lucius." she answered as she pulled a willing Lucius towards her bedroom.
"Very well, you have been warned, witch." Lucius told her as he closed the door and their night continued with other pleasures.
