Chapter 6 Fred/George

"Think she'll bring anyone this year?" George asked his twin.

"Not sure, hope not." Fred responded.

"Surely some bloke has managed to catch her eye?" George questioned.

"Are you trying to jinx us, George?" Fred gave his twin a harsh look.

"No! It's just..." George started.

"...we may have waited too long, I know." Fred finished as they both watched the doors.

Just when they thought the witch they both wanted and were willing to share wasn't going to show, like she had threatened, she walked in.

Fred and George watched her expressions closely and were happy to see her in awe of the decorations. When they had first arrived, a few hours early, they had added their touch but in a way to improve the Great Hall. The professors had done a well enough job but Fred and George knew it could be better. They had left the tree alone, it was beautiful and the students had helped in decorating it.

The rest needed some help, Fred had created snowmen to stand in the corner and shimmer snow any time someone came near while George enchanted various items to become Santas climbing ladders to reach their chimneys as they sounded out "ho, ho, ho" when they got to the top. Along the top of the walls, just below the ceiling, they both worked to show ice skaters twirling around. The candles on the tables were changed to lanterns and the chairs were made to look like sleigh seats that would enlarge or shrink to fit whoever sat in them.

When they saw the awe stay on Hermione's face as she took everything in, they knew coming in early and working so much magic was well worth it.

Then they watched as she spoke with and was hugged by her best friends before scanning the room. Instead of looking away, as they had before, Fred and George continued to look Hermione's way. When they realized she was making her way to them, neither twin could suppress the shiver that ran down their spines. Rather than smirking or becoming cocky that they seemed to have garnered the attention of their preferred witch, they leaned against the wall and waited with small smiles and eyes alight with hope.

Hermione was surprised to find herself attending the Yule Ball again. She had thought the year before's Ball would be the last one she would attend. However, she had a feeling that this one would be different and she had been right. As she walked into the Hall, she marveled at the decorations and knew the twins had had a hand in them. They were just too wonderful. No offense to the professors but sometimes the decorations seemed...stale...was the only way she could describe them. They were beautiful but it was basically the same every year.

What she saw was snowmen activated by going close to them, Santas climbing ladders, ice skating and seats that resembled sleighs. It was wonderful and she felt she had stepped into a winter wonderland for sure. As she took it all in, she saw her two best friends and decided to greet them, curious to where their dates were. After hugging and complimenting each other, Hermione asked about the girls. Harry had come alone, nothing new there, but Ron had said something about a wardrobe issue. Hermione made a mental note to not be around when they came back. As she scanned the crowd, her eyes landed on twin red heads in discussion with Severus Snape and Filius Flitwick, it was animated by the looks of it.

As she watched, she couldn't help but smile at their enthusiasm for whatever was being discussed, probably a new product knowing them. At least they weren't testing anything on any unsuspecting witches or wizards. She was proud that they had taken her warning so long ago to heart. She was also proud that their business was doing so well. They truly were geniuses. As she watched the pair walk away, Hermione admired the picture they created. Then she turned back to her friends just as the witches returned. After listening for a few minutes about what an atrocity it was that someone else had the exact same dress on, Hermione excused herself.

While slowly walking away from the drama of clothing do's and do not's, Hermione's eyes scanned the crowd, looking for two particular wizards. When she saw them, she corrected her course and made a beeline towards them, noticing them watching her. As her insides quivered and danced around, she couldn't help but return their smiles. She had been interested in Fred and George since they left school their seventh year but the timing had been awful. Then everything else had happened and she just hadn't found a way or time to approach them to see if they may be interested in a triad. Seeing them watching her approach with genuine similes and, dare she say it, hope in their eyes, Hermione felt more confident the closer she got, maybe it wasn't such a far off dream after all.

"Hermione!" Fred and George greet her at the same time.

"Fred, George. You both look smashing tonight." Hermione replied.

"And"

"you"

"look"

"radiant!" they countered.

Hermione blushed as she looked around at the decorations again. "You two help with the decorations this year?"

"We did!" Fred answered.

"What do you think?" George asked when she finally looked their way again.

"Well...I think you guys did a wonderful job! It's amazing!" Hermione couldn't help but gush. They had truly made it magical.

As the twins took dramatic bows, Hermione couldn't help but laugh at their antics.

"So were you asked or did you decide to on your own?" she asked with a cheeky smile.

"We"

"thought"

"they"

"needed"

"helping." they chimed, making Hermione laugh which was their goal. They loved hearing her laugh.

"You know, I almost didn't come but now, I'm glad I did." she told them genuinely. They chatted for a bit then the tables were moved to make room for dancing.

"Would the lady like to dance?" Fred asked.

"Depends on who's asking." Hermione's eyes held a mischievous look.

George shouldered his twin away as he bowed to Hermione and took her hand as he led her to the center. Both wizards loved the sound of her laughter and vowed to hear it more often. For the next several hours, Hermione alternated from dancing with Fred or George and few times with both of them.

After many dances, Hermione refused to dance anymore; her feet were starting to hurt and she was getting tired.

"Hey 'Mione," Fred started.

"you look tired." George finished.

Hermione gave them a small smile, "As much fun as this night has been, I am getting a bit tired."

"Would you"

"allow us"

"to take"

"you home?" they asked.

"That would be lovely." Hermione answered as she linked her arms in theirs.

As the trio walked out of the Hall, many watched them go with varying degrees of happiness. No one had seen Hermione smile and laugh so much or so often as she had that night. The twins would be good for her and they wished them well.

Once at her flat, the twins kissed a cheek as they bid her goodnight but before they could leave, Hermione spoke up.

"Would you two like to come in? I'll still be a bit before I'm ready for bed." she asked as she grasped their hands and gently tugged. Fred and George exchanged looks as they allowed their witch to pull them into her flat. Whatever happened would happen and they would go from there.
