Chapter 3: The Path To Greatness Begins! On The Road To Pewter City!
Michael and the girls made their way out of Pallet Town. Along the way, Michael caught four new Pokémon in Pidgey, Rattata, Bellsprout, and a pair of Oddish. Michael then used the Transfer Device to send all but Pidgey to his parents at the family manor on Pokémon Island.
Weiss - "Why did you keep Pidgey?"
Michael - "A third member to use against Erika when I challenge her at the Celadon Gym. Along with the fact that I also promised Fluttershy I would never use my Fire-Types and Poison-Types against any of the Grass and Bug Gym Leaders."
Rarity - "Of course you did. Times I forget how much of a nature lover Fluttershy is."
With a few more pages of his PokéDex filled, along with a new party member, Michael and the girls continued on their way. They soon arrived in Viridian City. After resting at the Pokémon Center for lunch, they continued north to Route 2, stopping in front of the Viridian Gym for a bit.
Ruby - "So Michael can't fight this Gym Leader until he beats the other seven, right?"
Weiss - "That's right Ruby."
Rarity - "I heard a few rumors in the Pokémon Center that no one knows who the Gym Leader is."
After talking about the Viridian Gym and its Leader for a few more minutes, the group of four finally reached Route 2. Sadly, Michael wasn't able to find any new Pokémon to catch.
Ruby - "Don't worry Michael. Perhaps Viridian Forest has something for you instead."
Michael - "Hopefully."
Michael then led the girls into Viridian Forest. Along with fighting other trainers, Michael's day also got better as he caught both Caterpie and Weedle. Soon night fell and the party decided to set up camp. The girls saw that Michael was working on a strategy for the Gym Battle.
Ruby - "So who are you gonna use for the Gym Battle Michael?"
Michael - "Well I WAS gonna use a Water-Type and a Grass-Type at first, but then changed my mind and decided with two Water-Types for the Gym Battle in Pewter City, followed by two Grass-Types for the Gym Battle in Cerulean City."
Weiss - "By the way. Don't you think forty cards is too much for the deck?"
Rarity - "Weiss. You do realize there's the possibility of not knowing what kind of situation you could be thrown into, which you could also be completely unprepared for."
Weiss - "Fair point."
Ruby - "Speaking of your deck may we see what you've created so far?"
Michael - "Sure."
Michael handed his deck over to the girls, who quickly looked through it. They then handed it back to Michael.
Ruby - "I think this deck will help you win hands down."
Weiss - "I'm with Ruby. Unbelievable how much thought you put into it."
Michael - "Oh if you girls think this is the only deck, then you're sorely mistaken."
The girls paled at hearing that. They knew how dangerously smart Michael was when he wanted to be. After a few more minutes of planning, Michael admitted that he was happy with the strategy he had come up with and went to sleep. The girls then quickly followed suit. After getting a good night's sleep, the party cleaned up their makeshift camp site and continued their way out of Viridian Forest. The girls also noticed that Michael didn't catch any Pikachu in the forest at all.
Rarity - "You aren't gonna catch a Pikachu Michael?"
Michael - "Pikachu's gonna be one of the few Kanto Pokemon I skip on so I can catch their baby pre-evolution in Johto."
Ruby - "Who else besides Pikachu are you skipping on?"
Michael - "Clefairy, Jigglypuff, Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee, Jynx, Electabuzz, Magmar, and Snorlax. I'm also skipping Wobbuffet and Mantine when we get to Johto due to their pre-evolutions being in Hoenn and Sinnoh respectively. Snorlax's pre-evolution is also in Sinnoh, hence why I'm skipping him as well."
Weiss - "Are you gonna do the same to Roselia in Hoenn due to her pre-evolution being in Sinnoh?"
Michael - "Yes."
The group of four then continued their way through Viridian Forest, with Michael continuing to fight the trainers like he did yesterday. They soon exited the forest and made their way along the upper half of Route 2. Michael then stopped walking before entering Pewter City.
Michael - "You girls go on ahead and get us a room at the Pokémon Center for our stay here. I'm gonna get in some last-minute training before I have my Gym Battle against Brock."
Rarity - "Ok then Michael."
Weiss - "Are you ok if we join in on the training after we get the room?"
Michael - "Not at all. See you girls in a few minutes then."
Ruby - "See you in a bit Michael."
The girls rushed over to the Pokémon Center. Thankfully a room for all four of them was open. They got it registered, then returned to Michael with the good news and helped him with his training. Soon lunchtime came around and Michael decided for everyone to take a break and get a bite to eat. They returned to the Pokémon Center and got their Pokémon healed up, followed by filling up their stomachs. After lunch, the party split into pairs, Michael said that he was do some extra training to make sure that everyone's skill level was up to par, with Weiss joining him to help her Froslass learn to control her new moves (All four of Froslass's moves are learned by TM). Weiss also wanted a few pointers on how to make combo moves as well. Meanwhile, Ruby and Rarity were gonna visit the museum.
Michael - "What's at the museum?"
Rarity - "There's a special event going on that if any Pokémon Trainer wants to, they can select one of the fossils on display and have it revived."
Weiss - "Which fossil are you two going with?"
Rarity - "I'm gonna get the Skull Fossil for Cranidos."
Ruby - "And I'm taking the Armor Fossil for Shieldon."
Michael - "Perhaps we should check the event afterwards Weiss."
Weiss - "Why not. I'll most likely take the Sail Fossil for Amaura."
Michael - "I'll take the Claw Fossil for Anorith then. I'm also sure we can get another four of the girls to get a fossil Pokémon if this event is still going on the next time that we stop in Pewter City for any reason."
Rarity - "Who did you have in mind Michael?"
Michael - "Yang can get the Jaw Fossil for Tyrunt, Fluttershy can get the Root Fossil for Lileep, and Pinkie can get the Helix Fossil for Omanyte. I'm also sure they have an Old Amber on display. Rainbow can take that and get an Aerodactyl."
Ruby - "Hey Rarity. Let's ask about one Trainer being able to take multiple fossils when we get over there.
Rarity - "Good idea Ruby."
The two pairs then left the Pokémon Center and went off to do their own activities. During the training a question came to Weiss.
Weiss - "Michael. May I ask why you decided to help me teach my Froslass combo moves?"
Michael - "Two reasons. Reason one: You're my girlfriend alongside Ruby and Twilight. I do have to help you three and the others get stronger as fellow trainers after all."
Weiss - "Awww. That's such a sweet thing for my shared boyfriend to do. But what's the other reason then?"
Michael - "Delcatty."
Weiss - "You mean that dream you have of owning a Delcatty that's unlike any other?"
Michael - "Hit the nail on the head. My dream for Delcatty is to have one that will do more than just support her teammates. She'll take charge and mow down any opponent standing in her way, even if they're a legendary."
Weiss - "I believe the ten of us admitted to being in full support of that dream of yours."
Michael - "You girls did, and still are. The bad thing, though, is if I get Delcatty as a Skitty."
Weiss - "How so?"
Michael - "Three of Froslass's moves, Ice Beam, Shadow Ball, and Thunder, are gonna be part of Delcatty's final move set. The fourth move is gonna be Solar Beam."
Weiss - "Wow. That's quite the move set for a Normal-Type like Delcatty to have."
Michael - "Agreed. But the bad thing is that Skitty can only know Energy Ball and Thunderbolt for the time being. But that's ok. I still know that Delcatty's gonna be super strong as a Skitty. And once she evolves, she'll only get even better."
Weiss - "That's the right attitude to always have when raising your Pokémon Michael."
Michael - "You're right Weiss. And thanks for hearing me out."
Weiss kissed Michael's cheek.
Weiss - "Not at all. Now come on. Let's get that training done!"
Michael - "Right!"
A few hours later, Michael and Weiss had finished up their training, with Weiss and Froslass getting a better understanding on how combo moves work. Michael had also gotten everyone to where he wanted them to be. During this training, Cyndaquil and Chimchar evolved into Quilava and Monferno. Along the way to the museum, Michael was informing Weiss about how to evolve Amaura.
Michael - "Don't forget Weiss. Amaura evolves into Aurorus by at least Lv. 39 AT NIGHT."
Weiss - "Any reason why they need to evolve at night?"
Michael - "Well it's been proven that their fossils have been found in arctic locations. And everyone knows how cold it can get at night sometimes."
Weiss - "That's true. You and I should also make sure to remind Yang about Tyrunt evolving the same way during the day."
Michael - "Good idea."
The duo then arrived at the museum, where Rarity and Ruby joined them. They then walked over to the display case with the fossils that could be restored.
Weiss - Have you two made your decision yet?"
Rarity - "We decided to just wait for you both so the four of us can pick together."
Michael - "You two didn't have to do that."
Ruby - "Times doing something is more fun when doing it with your friends."
Weiss - "True."
The four of them walked up to the display case.
Michael - "You girls pick first."
Weiss/Ruby/Rarity - "Thank you Michael."
One of the museum staff heard Michael's name being mentioned.
Assistant - "Excuse me young man. Are you Michael Masi?"
Michael - "Yes I am. Why do you ask?"
Assistant - "My name is Anthony. I'm one of Professor Oak's assistants."
Weiss - "May we ask why you're here then?"
Anthony - "Professor Oak decided to let the people of Kanto learn about the ancient Pokémon from other regions. And if any Trainers want to, they can select any fossils from this display case between us here to have the Pokémon inside it revived. While your friends can select as many fossils as they want to, Professor Oak decided that you, my dear Michael, were to be given one of each of them."
Michael was stunned that Professor Oak wanted to help him fill up his PokéDex this much.
Michael - "I don't know what to say Anthony. Know what? I'll take them all."
Anthony - "Good to hear. And for you girls?"
Rarity - "I'll take a Skull Fossil."
Ruby - "Armor Fossil please."
Weiss - "Sail Fossil for me good sir."
Anthony - "Right away."
Anthony took one of each fossil from the display case, along with a co-worker of his getting him a second Skull, Armor, and Sail fossils, and took them all into the back room. After a few minutes he called out to his co-worker.
Anthony - "The Pokémon for the girls are ready James."
James - "Sure thing Anthony."
James walked into the back room, then came out with three revived Pokémon on a trolley.
James - "Here you girls go. Cranidos for Rarity. Shieldon for Ruby. And Amaura for Weiss. Your batch of Pokémon are part way done Michael."
Michael - "That's fine."
After a bit of a wait, Michael finally got all of his Pokémon from the fossils. Alongside Anorith, he also got Omanyte, Kabuto, Aerodactyl, Lileep, Cranidos, Shieldon, Tirtouga, Archen, Tyrunt, and Amaura. He then noticed that one was missing.
Michael - "Where's Aerodactyl?"
Anthony pointed to the lone Poké Ball on the trolley surrounded by the other fossil Pokémon.
Michael - "Oh ok. I understand now."
He then walked over and picked up Aerodactyl's Poké Ball.
Michael - "Come along everyone. Our business is finished here."
Michael led everyone outside, then let Aerodactyl out of her Poké Ball.
Ruby - "How can you tell Aerodactyl's a girl Michael?"
Michael - "Riagon helped me with learning that. By focusing my Aura Sight on a Poké Ball that has a Pokémon in it, I can see that Pokémon's gender and types."
Rarity - "That's a clever trick to have if someone just gifts you a Pokémon and you don't know what their gender is."
Weiss - "So which of the others here are female?"
Michael glanced towards his other fossil Pokémon, then focused his aura into his eyes.
Michael - "The only other ones that are female are Amaura, Lileep, and surprisingly Kabuto."
The girl's stomachs then growled.
Michael - "You girls sound hungry."
The four shared a laugh with each other. They then returned their Pokémon and made their way back to the Pokémon Center for dinner.
Ruby - "To think tomorrow is Michael's first ever Gym Battle."
Rarity - "I'm a bit excited too. I need to take notes after all."
Weiss - "To help you understand how your gym is supposed to look like, right?"
Rarity - "That and help me decide on my Gym Team."
Ruby - "Gym Team?"
Michael - "That's right Ruby. Alongside with having a personal team, the Gym Leaders also have a pre-made team for whenever they battle challengers. As for the Elite Four and Champion, both teams are pretty much the exact same thing."
Weiss - "How many Pokémon will each of us have on our Gym Teams?"
Michael - "When it comes time to explain to everyone about our dream, I'll state those numbers then. But you girls make the sole decision on who's on the team at all."
Rarity - "Thanks Michael. These Gym Teams are gonna take a lot of thought to make them."
Michael - "If you girls want an easier way to make these Gym Teams, make a list of all the Pokémon that have the type you specialize in as their primary type, then when I reveal the Gym order for you girls, you all just narrow it down to the number I give you."
Ruby - "We also need to say who our Gym Team's ace is, as they'll be the strongest of the entire team."
Soon dinner was finished and the party decided to go to bed early since tomorrow was a big day for them, especially Michael.
Michael - "My first Gym Battle tomorrow. I just know this is gonna be a fun challenge to overcome."
