History of the Very First Avatar

Korra still has her eyes close for a moment to get into the spiritual state within her very soul hoping to ask the past Avatars who were her past lives, and then she opens her eyes to see one figure she recognizes very well.

"Aang! Glad to see you because there is something I need to ask." Korra said.

"I know, you want to know about who was the very first Avatar and how about the dark spirit named Vaatu." Aang said, already knowing that being part within Korra's soul.

"Right, so I need to make my way to the first." Korra nodded.

"Then we shall guide you to how our legacy started." Roku said, appearing in place of Aang.

"And when you find the answers you seek, everything will become clearer than you could ever hope for." Kyoshi informed, now taking the place of Roku as well.

"I just hope it won't be a long explanation because me and my friends are trying to stop my uncle from unleashing this Vaatu guy." Korra mentioned.

"Not to worry, you will be able to do what needs to be done after this." Kuruk said before his appearance changes into a new young man though he looks a little rough with the clothing.

"Hello, it's nice to finally meet you, Avatar Korra. I heard you've been looking for me." The young man greeted.

"Yes! This was easier than expected." Korra smiled.

"My name is Wan, and I will show you how I became the first Avatar." Wan said.

Wan started with his eyes glowing white causing Korra's eyes to glow as well, everything around them started to fade into white for a moment until the background looks more like what appears to be a street within a city.

And then there's Wan running in that street while holding a bag and being chased by three brothers who appear to be guards from the clothing they wear; the three guards are also brothers.

"Nobody steals from the Chou brothers!" Little Chou yelled.

"Really? Because I just did." Wan bragged and held the bag up to show off.

"You're dead, Wan." Big Chou angered.

Wan didn't get the threat seriously as he looks ahead to see a railing meaning there's a new path for him to go on for escape.

"Actually, I feel quite alive." Wan saluted and jumps off the railing.

Wan falls down passing by a few laundry lines and grabbing onto one line to swing himself back to land into an opening of a building and he looks up to sees the Chou brothers tried to follow him and crashes down at the bottom with a cloth falling onto them.

Wan laughs a little at how stupid those brothers are, he jumps down landing on top of the brothers and ran away again.

Wan goes running onto the small bridge with the birds flying up, and when the Chou brothers came onto the bridge the birds drop their droppings on them causing the brothers to stop for a moment feeling disgusting of the droppings on them and look angry together with their mouths not covered in poop.

Wan kept on running for a while longer jumping on top of some buildings until, he stops believing this is a good spot to take a break for a while and have himself some food he stole from those brothers, the dumpling roll in his hand looks very tasty.

But just when he was about to take a bite out of the dumpling roll, all three Chou brothers landed in front of him.

"He-he-hey, fellas!" Wan greeted nervously and look at the roll feeling sad about this idea.

"You're just in time for lunch!" Wan threw the dumpling at the eldest brother and jumps over him to escape, but the middle brother trips him with his spear.

"I told you no one steals from us." Little Chou said as they surrounded him.

The eldest brother easily lifts up Wan who smiles even though he is scared on the inside, and then the thief was tossed over the walls and falls through some tree branches and crashes into a mud pit of some hybrid pigs in a farm.

"(Shit, and so close too.)" Wan thought groaned as he saw one cow-pig look at him.

(Later)

Wan went back home to a little tree house where he lives with his best friend and older friend and show that he did manage to get some dumplings in his clothes before getting caught by the Chou brothers.

But then he saw one roll sitting on the wooden pathway to his home.

"What the…" Wan confused as he looks around, wondering if somebody drop this off for him ad his friends.

He decided to take the roll and walk inside.

"Did you steal from the Chous again?" The boy asked, name Jaya.

"Yeah, and I got to nothing show for it except a few dirty rolls and a whole lot of bruises." Wan answered as he gave one roll to Jaya and walked over to corner with curtains as the elder friend is there.

"Hey, Yao, I got some food for you." Wan said holding the roll to his friend.

What came out of the shadow was a branch-like hand that took the roll, and the figure reveals himself to be half-man and half-tree, he eats the roll humming in delight.

"Mmm. Delicious! Thank you, Wan." Yao thanked.

Wan sits on his side while Jaya is eating off his roll, and then a few animals came in as they are two skunk squirrels, a peacock pigeon, and a woodpecker lizard sitting in front of Wan because of the food he has.

"You guys are hungry too, huh?" Wan chuckled and shared the one roll he got from outside for them to eat.

"You're really a kind person, Wan." Jaya commented.

"Seems like it, huh? Hey, you guys didn't see anyone come by here before I came back, did you?" Wan asked.

"No, it's just been us all day." Jaya shrugged.

"I didn't hear a thing from in here." Yao shook his head.

"Oh well, guess I'll give my thanks later." Wan said, hoping this mysterious person wouldn't mind being thanked.

But as he eats his roll, his expression grew to dislike of this living lifestyle.

"This is fucked up, I'm tired of eating scraps. If only there was some way to get into the Chous' food cellar. We'd be eating like, well, like Chous." Wan complained, those guys have better food and yet people like him and his friends are stuck like this is not fair.

"If Chou the Elder catches you sneaking into his palace, you'll end up dead. Or worse, he'll banish you to the Spirit Wilds." Jaya worried for his friend, and that got Yao to gasp.

"No, don't get banished. You don't want nothing to do with those spirits. They'll get inside ya, scramble up your mind, turn you into this, a monster!" Yao warned in horror as to what happened to him being possessed by a spirit.

"Don't do anything crazy, Wan. You just gotta accept the world is the way it is. Some people have power. Some people don't. And you don't." Jaya pointed out that the world is what it is.

Wan drank his cup of tea, knowing that his friend is right about not having the power part but then gets an idea.

"Not yet, anyway." Wan grinned.

(The Next Day)

At the city square, there are a few men standing there calling out to the people for some help in a hunt for food and to fight off the danger outside the city too.

"Are you strong? Are you fearless? Do you have what it takes to battle the spirits? Then join the hunt." The Huntsman called out to rally the people up, hoping to get more volunteers.

"Count me in!" Wan said walking up to him.

The Huntsman gets a good look at the boy for one second and then he started laughing like he just saw something funny before speaking again.

"We're going to be out in the wilds for a week. You wouldn't last two seconds." The Huntsman believed.

"I can handle myself." Wan smirked with confidence, he has been surviving the city when it comes to stealing food so this shouldn't be hard.

But there was one thing he needed to know just to make sure.

"We all get fire, right?" He asked.

"Yeah, but do you know how to use it?" The Huntsman asked if this boy has ever done any combat training.

"Well, not exactly, but I—" Wan tried to come up with a good excuse, but then one of the huntsmen walks up and puts a hand on his shoulder.

"Ah, let him come. Not like we got any other volunteers lining up." He pointed out that there aren't any more people coming to join.

"All right. Welcome to the hunt." The Huntsman said.

The group of huntsmen and Wan are walking together on a path outside of the city and arrives at the cliff where the Huntsman blew a horn that causes the city to raise revealing that the city itself is on the back of a giant turtle-like creature with the head of a lion.

"The lion turtle." Wan surprised. He heard many stories about the lion turtle that is known as the city's guardian while allowing the humans to live on its back to protect them from the Spirit Wild.

He didn't think that meeting one up close for the first time would make him feel like the world is bigger than he knew for some reason.

"Great guardian of our city, we are venturing into the Spirit Wilds to bring back food for our people. Please, grant us the power of fire." The Huntsman requested.

"The power is yours to keep until your return." The lion turtle said rising one paw.

"You're first, kid." The Huntsman said.

Wan walks up to the two claws of the lion turtle, they glow from the claws to his body for a moment and moves them away.

Wan doesn't feel any different from the inside, but decided to test out his power by throwing a palm forward and flames burst out of his hand though the force knocks him tumbling back.

"Just make sure you aim at the spirits, not us, okay?" The Huntsman advised.

"Sure thing." Wan smiled, now he has what he needs for his big plan.

Wan and the Huntsmen are adventuring down into the forbidden forest that is known as the Spirit Forest, the place where the spirits live and also where people get hurt by the spirits such as scaring them and being possess.

"(Okay, just gotta pull up my act and hope they buy it for me to get back to Jaya and Yao.)" Wan thought it was time to start the next part of his plan.

"Everyone, stay close. Spirits love to pick off stragglers." The Huntsman warned.

"Uh, guys? I don't think I can do this." Wan said in a trembling tone.

"Now, quit your whining. We haven't even seen a spirit yet." The Huntsman damned this kid is being a coward right now.

"I… I think"

But before Wan could say that he wants to go home in his cowardly act, a long green arm pops out of the woods moving around fast like a snake and it punch one of the men and move to Wan who tries to defend himself with fire only for that green hand to go through the fire and punch the boy to knock him down.

"Get back, spirit!" The Huntsman unleashed a few flame attacks to drag the long arm spirit away.

"Kid, are you alright?" The Huntsman asked.

"No, I'm still a coward even when I got the power of fire! And my fire was even weak that didn't even scare that spirit away." Wan admitted sadly.

"I'm sorry, sir. But it looks like I'm not ready to go out beyond the city." Wan sighed.

"Looks like you still have some growing yourself. Go return to the city and return the fire back to the lion turtle, I think it's best that you remain where you've always been." The Huntsman ordered.

"Yes, thank you for understanding." Wan thanked before walking away.

"(All fucking right! That couldn't have gone off better than I hoped!)" Wan thought smiled. He didn't expect a spirit to attack him, but that helped him out more than he planned.

Now, Wan can go back and reveal his big plan for what he's gonna do with that fire.

(Wan's Little Home)

Wan made his back to his friends with a confident grin on his face.

"Wan, you're back." Jaya surprised that Wan has been gone a little longer than his usual outing.

"What goodies did you snatch for us this time?" Yao asked, rubbing his tummy.

Instead of food as they expected, Wan shows off the fire from his hand to amazes his friends though their reaction is the opposite.

"What did you do? You can't steal from the lion turtle." Jaya disappointed in what his friend just did.

"Really? Because I just did." Wan grinned.

(Nighttime)

Night has fallen and most of the people of the city have fallen asleep, the perfect time for Wan to lead the group of the lower people to the Chou estate to finally get the food they deserve to eat and then some.

"You know it's forbidden to bring the power of the element into the city. Please, go back to the lion turtle and return the fire." Jaya tried to reason with his friend.

But Wan wouldn't have any of that right now, not this time.

"Jaya, it's time to stop being so afraid of the Chous and show them we have the power to change things." Wan said strongly, now believing it's the time to change things, to make things better for everyone who suffers to get by because of the rich.

Jaya can tell that his best friend won't be sway otherwise and decided to go along with this as they put on their masks and walk up to the Chou estate.

"Hey, Chous! Open the gate, and let us in." Wan shouted.

This got the attention of the Chou father, Chou the Elder along with his three sons right behind him.

"What are those filthy peasants doing here?" Chou the Elder asked, not liking how his night is being interrupted by these peasants.

"Don't worry father. We'll take care of them." Big Chou promised and they leave for the front gate.

The three Chou sons arrive at the front seeing these mask peasants believing they are committing a crime against the Chou family, and they will pay dearly once they have been dealt with.

"Hand over all the food you're hoarding, and we won't give you any trouble." Wan demanded, but this only made the brothers laugh at the supposed thieves thinking they can get past them.

"You're not getting past us. We have the weapons. You're powerless." Big Chou pointed his spear at them.

"Powerless, huh?" Wan smirked under his mask.

The Chou brothers charge at the fools only for Wan to unleash his fire at them forcing the brothers to move out of the way to avoid getting burned alive, and the fire also burn a hole through.

"Follow me!" Wan said and they charge into the palace making their way to the food storage home where Wan also blasted the door down.

"Grab as much food as you can." Wan said as the villagers went inside to grab the food.

"Maybe you're right. Maybe we do have the power to change things." Jaya started to believe Wan is right about this.

"Stop right there!" A palace guard yelled, getting Wan and the others' attention.

"Looks like the Chous found backup." Jaya pointed out.

"Get everyone out of here. I'll hold them off." Wan ordered.

Wan enters the fray to fight off the guards and the Chou brothers with his fire and some combat skills he got, but then Little Chou jumps onto his back trying to put him down though Wan moves around making a fire ring around them and managed to get Little Chou off who grab his mask.

"No, please! Have mercy!" Little Chou begged and look up in surprise to see that the culprit is none other than Wan.

Wan was prepared to use his fire to hurt Little Chou for all the times he and his brother hurt him, but he hesitated to do it and wonder if this is really what he wants as payback. But that hesitation led him to be captured by the guards and Little Chou regain his composure as he stands up.

"Even when you have the power, you're afraid to use it." Litte Chou said.

Could that be the reason why Wan held himself back, because he was afraid to hurt someone with the power of fire? Well, that wouldn't matter now at this point.
