Chapter 7: Battle At The Second Gym! Michael's Fight For The Cascade Badge!
The next morning Michael and the girls woke up and quickly showered, then entered the lobby for breakfast. In the lobby, the party came across a pair of familiar faces.
Ruby - "Dad?!"
Weiss - "Sister?!"
Ruby and Weiss ran over and hugged their fellow family members.
Michael - "Qrow?! Winter?! What are you both doing here?!"
Qrow - "The police were having a bit of trouble dealing with Team Rocket, so the two of us, along with Ghira and Tai, offered to help them out."
Rarity - "Michael's dad John didn't join you?"
Winter - "He, Raven, and Summer are taking care of things just fine back home."
Pinkie - "Since the two of them aren't here, Ghira's most likely with Blake in Lavender Town, while Tai's in Celadon City helping Yang with protecting Fluttershy."
Qrow - "Anyway. So, what are you kids doing today?"
Ruby - "Going to watch Michael battle the Cerulean Gym."
Weiss - "Then we're gonna head south towards Vermillion City. Pick up Twilight along the way in Saffron City."
Rarity - "I think Sabrina may be joining us as well."
Pinkie - "You two can join us for Michael's Gym battle if you have the time."
Winter was a bit hesitant at first, but Qrow already had his answer.
Qrow - "Why not watch the battle, Winter. You, me, Tai, and Ghira have all admitted to wanting a first-person view of how this battle deck system works after all."
Winter - "True. We did mention that. Ok. I'm in."
Qrow - "Same here."
Girls - "Yay!"
Soon the party, along with Qrow and Winter, finished breakfast and made their way to the Cerulean Gym. They then walked inside. Michael took his place on one side of the battlefield, while everyone else found a seat in the stands. Soon the gym leader, a young girl with orange hair named Misty appeared.
Misty - "About time you showed up. I'll admit you gave Brock a run for his money, but I won't be so easy to beat."
Michael - "We'll see about that."
? - "Mind if I join you guys?"
Rarity - "Brock?! What are you doing here?"
Brock - "All of us gym leaders agreed to watch Michael's future battles against us should he win. Since I lost, I'll be joining you guys during his future Kanto Gym Battles, as well as future battles with all Rock-Type Leaders."
Weiss - "Obviously you'll be cheering for your fellow Leaders during the Gym Battles, but what about during the league?"
Brock - "We all agreed to cheer for him during that time alongside you guys."
Pinkie - "I'm sure Michael will be thankful for that support when the time comes. but for now, it's time for a fun gym battle!"
Tim, who was the referee for the Pewter City Gym Battle, appeared as the referee for the Cerulean City Gym Battle this time.
Tim - "This is the Cerulean City Gym Battle between Gym Leader Misty and the challenger Michael Masi of Pokémon Island. The battle will be two Vs. all. The battle will continue until all Pokémon on one side are unable to continue. Only the challenger can switch out their Pokémon. Are both sides ready?"
Misty/Michael - "Ready!"

Battle: Challenger Michael Masi (6) Vs. Gym Leader Misty (2)
Misty - "Go Psyduck!"
Michael - "Grovyle I choose you!"
Match #1: Grovyle Vs. Psyduck
Tim - "Grovyle Vs. Psyduck! Begin!"
Michael - "Field card activate! Blooming Meadow!"
Misty - "Here we go again."
Michael - "Attack with Leafage Grovyle! And not only does Leafage gain a STAB bonus, but Blooming Meadow also increases its power even further!"
Misty - "Then I counter with Grass Shield! Answer back with Confusion Psyduck!"
Leafage's Power: 40 + 20 = 60 + 30 = 90/2 = 45 x 2 = 90
Leafage's boosted power being cut in half meant that Psyduck survived, along with Grovyle taking a good amount of damage from Confusion.
Michael - "You ok there Grovyle?"
Grovyle - "Just fine Michael."
Misty - "You alright Psyduck?"
Psyduck - "Just fine Misty."
Michael drew a card from his deck, then ordered Grovyle to attack.
Michael - "Giga Drain to get some health back Grovyle!"
Misty - "Confusion again Psyduck!"
Sadly, Grovyle was much faster of the two, taking the rest of Psyduck's health and knocking it out along with restoring its own before the Confusion could even hit.
Giga Drain's Power: 75 + 37.5 = 112.5 + 56.25 = 168.75 x 2 = 337.5
Tim - "Psyduck is unable to battle! Grovyle wins!"
Michael - "Yeah!
Combusken/Marshtomp - "Nice one Grovyle!"
Misty returned Psyduck.
Misty - "Thank you Psyduck. You tried your best."
Tim - "Challenger Michael. Will you switch Pokémon?"
Michael looked at Grovyle, who nodded.
Michael - "Return Grovyle. Let your sister finish what you started."
Grovyle - "Right."
Grovyle jumped back, landing next to Michael and sitting down.
Michael - "Servine I choose you!"
Misty - "Go Starmie!"
(Music Ends)
Match #2: Servine Vs. Starmie
(Insert Music: Pokemon BW2 OST – Victory Is Right Before Your Eyes)
Tim - "Servine Vs. Starmie! Begin!"
Michael - "Time to win that Badge Servine! Attack with Leaf Tornado!"
Servine - "Right!"
Misty - "Answer back with Psywave Starmie!"
Starmie - "Yes Misty!"
Both attacks collided with each other, creating a stalemate.
Michael - "I activate Grass Booster!"
Misty - "And I counter with Psychic Sword!"
Leaf Tornado's Power: 65 + 32.5 = 97.5 + 48.75 = 146.25 + 29.25 = 175.5
Psywave's Power: 65 + 32.5 = 97.5 x 2 = 195
The battle cards quickly gave the advantage to Starmie's Psywave, making it knock down Servine and severely injuring her.
Michael - "Servine!"
Grovyle - "Stay strong sis!"
Servine slowly got to her feet.
Servine - "Don't think I'll go down that easily."
Starmie - "Not much of a challenge if you did after all."
Michael - "You ok to keep on fighting Servine?"
Servine - "Yes!"
Michael - "Attack with Leaf Tornado again! And I'll use a second Grass Booster as well!"
Misty - "Counterattack with Psywave Starmie! And I'll throw in a second Psychic Booster on top of it!"
Psywave's Power: 65 + 32.5 = 97.5 + 19.5 = 117
Leaf Tornado's Power: 65 + 32.5 = 97.5 + 19.5 = 117 + 58.5 = 175.5
Misty - "Now I activate a second Psychic Sword!"
Psywave's Power: 117 x 2 = 234
Michael - "Then I activate Grass Sword! And due to Servine being in low health, her Overgrow ability activates as well!"
Leaf Tornado's Power: 175.5 x 2 = 351 + 175.5 = 526.5 x 2 = 1,053
Michael - "GO SERVINE!"
Servine let out a battle cry as her super powered Leaf Tornado surged past Starmie's Psywave and hit it full force, sending it flying into the air before crashing onto one of the floating platforms in the pool. Its core slowly beeped a few times, then went silent.
(Music Ends)
Tim - "Starmie is unable to battle! Servine wins! Both of Gym Leader Misty's Pokémon are unable to battle, so the winner of the battle is the challenger, Michael Masi!"
The crowd roared for Michael's victory.
Michael - "We did it!"
Misty silently returned Starmie.
Misty - "Thank you Starmie. You did an amazing job out there."
Misty walked over to Michael, Tim alongside her carrying a tray with the badge in it.
Misty - "Well Michael. That was a very exciting battle."
Michael - "I agree. I actually thought your Starmie had Servine beat there for a second."
Misty - "But she instead held up and overpowered Starmie with your help. Anyway. In accordance with Pokémon League rules, I present you with the Cascade Badge."
Misty then took the badge off the tray and handed it to Michael, who took it eagerly.
Michael - "Alright! Gym win number two! We just got the Cascade Badge!"
Grovyle and Servine joined in the celebration.
Misty - "For your next gym battle, I recommend Vermillion City to the South."
Michael - "Thanks Misty."
As the party leaves the gym, Brock walks over to Misty.
Brock - "His name and fame are just gonna keep on growing."
Misty - "No questions about that."
Soon the party made their way back to the Pokémon Center. Michael gave Grovyle and Servine to Nurse Joy, who quickly got to work patching them up. Then he called the Professors.
Professor Oak - "Michael, my boy. Congrats on winning the Cascade Badge."
Michael - "Thanks Professor Oak."
Professor Birch - "We also have a guest with us too."
Michael was surprised at who the guest was.
Michael - "Professor Levanton! Well, aren't you a sight for sore eyes!"
Professor Levanton - "Ha ha Michael. Very funny. But it's also good to see you again as well."
Pinkie - "You know this guy, Michael?"
Michael - "I've told you girls before about the Hisui Region, haven't I?"
Weiss - "You did a few times in the past."
Michael - "Well, Levanton is Hisui's Pokémon Professor. I got to meet him a few times when I was younger. May I ask why you showed up now?"
Professor Levanton - "First, I also want to apologize for not showing up on your tenth birthday. I did hear about what happened to you. And I'm truly glad you're doing ok."
Michael - "It's ok Professor Levanton. And thanks."
Professor Levanton - "Secondly, there are only seven new Pokémon to find in Hisui."
Michael - "That's mostly due to all of the regional variants found in Hisui."
Professor Rowan - "Because of this Michael, Riagon and her evolution will have to be renumbered. They will go from being Dex entries 899 and 900, to Dex entries 906 and 907."
Michael - "That's fine then. Doesn't matter to me or Riagon what her Dex number is for the time being."
A scanner appeared next to the screen.
Professor Sycamore - "Just place your PokéDex on the scanner here and you'll get the data for the Hisui PokéDex."
Michael walked over and placed his PokéDex on the scanner. After a few seconds, a ping was heard, and Michael took his PokéDex off of the scanner.
Professor Oak - "Ok Michael. Now your PokéDex will tell you about all of the Hisui Regionals variants if you ever come across any of them."
Michael - "Good to hear."
Professor Juniper - "Speaking of which. Let's see how your PokéDex is coming along."

Professor Elm - "Wow. This is quite the PokéDex for only two gyms so far."
Professor Kikui - "Well his sisters and parents are a big help with the Pokémon at home."
Professor Magnolia - "That's true."
Professor Oak - "Thank you for showing us your PokéDex Michael. We won't be seeing another update till after the Vermillion Gym, right?"
Michael - "That's correct."
Professor Oak - "Ok then. We won't keep you any longer. Have fun and stay safe on your trip to Vermillion."
Michael - "Thanks professor Oak."
The screen then went off, ending the call. Nurse Joy then came out with Grovyle and Servine a few moments later.
Nurse Joy - "Here are Grovyle and Servine for you Michael. And congrats on your two gym wins so far."
Michael - "Thank you Nurse Joy."
Soon the party had left the Pokémon Center and started to leave the city. Qrow and Winter also offered to join them for the time being. They then came across Officer Jenny in front of a house.
Michael - "Something wrong Officer Jenny?"
Jenny - "I was chasing this Team Rocket Grunt throughout the city. He fled into this house here. Then I heard an explosion from another wall. My main concern was making sure the family was safe."
Michael was silent, his eyes closed as he just stood in place.
Ruby - "Michael?"
Michael's eyes suddenly opened.
Michael - "Riagon."
Riagon appeared out of her Poké Ball.
Riagon - "You spotted him too, right?"
Michael - "Yep. Now go get him."
Riagon jumped onto the roof, then disappeared out of sight.
Riagon - "There you are!"
? - "What the-?!"
Sounds of a tussle were heard, then absolute silence. After a few moments, a knock was heard on the door. Michael opened the door to show Riagon dragging the Team Rocket Grunt behind her, a Raticate knocked out on his chest.
Michael - "Outside the hole in the wall?"
Riagon - "Mhmm. His Raticate was a complete pushover too. Anyway. Here you go Officer Jenny."
Jenny - "Thank you everyone. Now to go put this theft behind bars."
The party watched as Officer Jenny walked off, dragging the Rocket Grunt along behind her. They then made their way to Route 5. There Michael caught a Growlithe and Abra, along with seeing a Jigglypuff and a very unique Pokémon.
Ruby - "Wow! It's a Vulpix!"
The rest of the party noticed the Vulpix Ruby was talking about as well. The biggest surprise though, was not just that the Vulpix was a shiny one, but that her gaze was also fixed solely on Michael.
Michael - "Hello little one."
Michael slowly walked forward a few paces, then crouched down and pulled out a Sitrus Berry, placing it on the ground in front of him. Vulpix slowly walked over to Michael. She looked at the Sitrus Berry, then up at Michael, who had his hands behind his back.
Michael - "Go ahead. It's all yours."
Vulpix then swiftly snatched the Sitrus Berry with her mouth and darted back into the forest.
Weiss - "Why didn't you catch her Michael?"
Michael - "Let's just say the timing didn't feel right."
Meanwhile, Vulpix stopped at and turned in a very tiny clearing she made herself. She laid down in the spot where she could see the road no problem, but at the same time, no one would ever find her hiding spot. Then she remembered how kind and caring Michael was to her.
Vulpix - "It's him. He's the one..."
Vulpix slowly nodded off, happy to know who her future trainer was. Soon the party finally arrived at their current destination.
Michael - "Welcome to Saffron City girls."
