Chapter 70

Back at the base, Elena decides to open the second Legendary Clue, and I ask, "So what does it say?"

"It's been split into four parts," Elena explains. "I'll read the first one."

She takes a deep breath and begins, "Near where green meets snow in the Giant's Bed lies a temple where the giant of steel sleeps. On the temple's door are strange words: 'Let... ... out... ... ...note... ...wak... ... ...iant ... ...eel.' The door remains firmly shut."

"The temple where the Giant of Steel sleeps... that must be Registeel. There's no doubt about it," I confirm.

"But we already have Regirock, Regice, and Registeel from our time in the Hoenn Region. I don't think there's a need to capture them again," Alice suggests.

"You're absolutely right. Let's just visit the ruins and then leave without disturbing their slumber," I agree.

We make our way swiftly to the Giant's Bed, but just as we arrive, we receive a call from Peony.

"Uncle? What's going on?" Elena inquires.

"Oi oi! It's me, Peony! How're things, Chief?" Peony's voice crackles over the call.

"Well, we've found a temple that may hold the information about the second clue you gave us," Elena responds.

"What's that? You've found someplace ruiny lookin'?! That's gotta be one of those places! Y'know, where the legendary giants are s'posed to be! D'you see a door with mysterious writin' on it? I hear no one's ever been able to get it open! If all that's true, I think I'd call this particular adventure..." Peony's voice trails off with anticipation.

The Terrible Titans... Lurking Locked Away!

We find ourselves face-palming as Peony continues with his penchant for creating dramatic titles. Peony eventually says, "Ha! Well? How's that grab you? Right then, Chief! I eagerly leave the rest of this research in your hands! Talk to you later!"

Once he ends the call, Elena suggests, "Well, let's attempt to enter the temple so we can encounter Registeel."

"Yeah," I agree. As we approach the temple, we notice the enigmatic writing on the door, which I recognize as Braille. I request, "Elena, can you hand me the clue?"

Elena nods and passes me the clue. I begin examining it and say, "Based on the writing, it appears to be a language. I'll give reading it a shot."

"Right, I almost forgot you can read Braille," Alice acknowledges. After some time, I finish reading and convey, "I believe it says, 'Let ring out the piercing note that will wake the giant of steel.'"

"Piercing note? Like what?" Alice inquires in confusion. Elena decides to whistle at the door, much to our surprise, and it actually opens. We all exchange incredulous glances.

"What? It worked," Elena remarks as we enter the temple. Inside, we spot some panels on the ground, but we decide to ignore them, fearing they might awaken Registeel.

"Near where green meets snow in the Giant's Bed lies a temple where the giant of steel sleeps. On the temple's door are strange words: 'Let ring out the piercing note that will wake the giant of steel.' When I whistled before the door, it opened—and we found Registeel," Elena records in the report before we leave the temple to continue our search for the second one.

The second location is situated on the western side of the Giant's Bed, and I remark, "Judging by the color, it must be Regirock this time."

Alice asks, "So what does the clue say?"

Elena reads aloud, "Far, far into the Giant's Bed lies a temple where the giant of stone sleeps. On the temple's door are strange words: 'Let the... ... ...mon h... ... ...chang... ... ...one.' The door remains firmly shut."

I inspect the door and the notes before concluding, "Let the first Pokémon hold a never-changing stone. It must want us to hold an Everstone."

"Everstone... do you have an Everstone?" Alice inquires, and Elena replies, "I have one." She then has Pikachu hold the Everstone and approaches the door, causing it to open.

"Okay... this is getting pretty peculiar," I remark as we enter the temple, where we find the same panels on the ground.

"'Far, far into the Giant's Bed lies a temple where the giant of stone sleeps. On the temple's door are strange words: 'Let the first Pokémon hold a never-changing stone.' When we gave our Pokémon an Everstone to hold, the door opened—and we found Regirock," Elena documents in her notebook.

"Now the next one is Regice, and since it's an Ice Type, I assume it has to be in some icy area, right?" Alice queries.

Elena responds, "Well, here's the clue. 'Sunken in the side of Snowslide Slope lies a temple where the giant of ice sleeps. On the temple's door are strange words: "Wa... togeth... ... ...iving... ...stal... of sno..." The door remains firmly shut.'"

"Snowslide Slope, so it must be near where we planted our carrots," Alice deduces, and we promptly head in that direction.

Upon arriving at the Iceberg Ruins, we find a note with the words, "Walk together with a living crystal of snow." Elena questions, "A living crystal of snow? What could that be?"

Alice spots a group of Cryogonal passing by and suggests, "Is it implying that we need to have a Cryogonal with us to enter the ruins?"

We decide to bring Cryogonal into our party, and to our surprise, it works, and the door opens, revealing the same panels on the ground. Elena comments, "Wow, even I didn't see that coming with the riddle."

Elena proceeds to write the report, stating, "Sunken in the side of Snowslide Slope lies a temple where the giant of ice sleeps. On the temple's door are strange words: 'Walk together with a living crystal of snow.' When I took a Cryogonal from its Poké Ball and had it walk with me, the door opened—and I found Regice."

I then inquire about the temple containing Regigigas, and Elena says, "There's another message, but there's something suspicious about this one."

I ask, "Why is that? What does it say?"

"On the distant paths of Three-Point Pass lies a temple where two giants sleep. On the temple's door are strange words: 'Whe... ... ...ree ... ... ...door... ...all be ... ...ened.' The door remains firmly shut."

"Two giants?" Alice questions. "And the temple that Peony drew doesn't seem to be related to Regigigas either... it's shaped like an X and a Y..."

"Don't tell me there are two more Regis yet to be discovered..." I ponder. "Now I'm curious about their types and what Pokémon they are."

"We should head to Three-Point Pass first," Alice suggests, and we all make our way there.

As we depart from Snowslide Slope, we make our way towards the Giant's Foot. Upon arriving, we encounter a multitude of Copperajahs wandering the area. Elena remarks, "Wow... look at all the Copperajahs in this place..."

Alice playfully teases, "Yeah, you seem to like it because it's your signature Pokémon." Elena glares at her and retorts, "Is there a problem with that?"

In the Roaring Sea Caverns, Alice ponders, "You know, we've been seeing a lot of Fossil Pokémon... I wonder how they exist here in the first place..."

Elena speculates, "Maybe it's because the environment here is similar to their prehistoric habitat?"

After exiting the cave, we find ourselves at the Frigid Sea, and I marvel at the ocean, asking, "Am I seeing things, or are there Avalugg in the sea?"

Alice points out, "Not just Avalugg, there are Eiscue as well. But I must say, I'm really enjoying the abundance of Ice-type Pokémon here."

"So where is Three-Point Pass?" I inquire, and Elena, studying the map on the Rotom Phone, responds, "It's over there, so we need to cross the slippery ice, or we'll have to take a long detour by going into the water and then back out."

"I'd prefer the second option; the first one seems rather risky," I state as we continue our journey.

We arrive at the temple, and I take a look at the clue before reading it aloud, "A giant of rock, a giant of ice, a giant of steel. When gathered, the three giants, the door of destiny shall be opened."

Elena sighs and asks, "So we have to have Regirock, Regice, and Registeel in the party at the same time?"

"I suppose so," I confirm.

After switching their Pokémon and having all three giants in the party, they open the door. However, as they step on all the panels, nothing happens. Elena suggests, "Maybe we're not supposed to press all the buttons?"

"Yeah... it's fortunate that Uncle Peony drew a picture," Elena remarks as we decide to reduce two panels. To our surprise, a yellow Regi Pokémon appears, crackling with electricity.

"What in the world? It looks like an Electric-type Regi... What's its name? Regibolt?" I question.

After hearing its cry, Alice corrects, "I believe it's called Regieleki."I send out Regirock for battle, but the Electric-type Regi is incredibly fast, hopping around and dodging Zap Cannon.

"Wow, it's so fast," I observe.

"Yeah, with all that bouncing, its speed is impressive," Alice agrees. We then notice that Regieleki is constructing an electric cage, trapping our Pokémon inside.

"What's going on? What move is that?" Elena wonders.

"It appears to be something like Thunder Cage," I speculate. "That might be the move."

In the end, Regirock uses Lock Down and Stone Edge to defeat Regieleki, allowing Alice to capture it.

Regieleki: The Electron Pokemon: Electric Type. This Pokémon is a cluster of electrical energy. It's said that removing the rings on Regieleki's body will unleash the Pokémon's latent power.

"That's one Regi down... What about the other one?" Alice ponders.

We adjust the switches on the ground, and this time a red-colored Regi emerges. "That looks like a Dragon's head..." Elena observes.

"A Dragon-type Regi? That's not the kind of Regi I was expecting," I comment. I send out Regice for the type advantage, and it uses Ice Beam, but Regidrago manages to survive. Regidrago then starts to charge up and unleashes a powerful attack on Regice, causing it significant damage.

"That's a lot of Dragon's Energy," Elena notes. "Maybe that's the move's name?"

"In a different situation, I might have found that amusing," Alice responds as we have Regice use Blizzard. Eventually, we manage to defeat Regidrago and capture it.

Regidrago: The Dragon Orb Pokemon: Dragon Type. An academic theory proposes that Regidrago's arms were once the head of an ancient dragon Pokémon. The theory remains unproven.

After leaving the temple, Elena documents the report: "On the distant paths of Three-Point Pass lies a temple where two giants sleep. On the temple's door are strange words: 'When gather the three giants, the door of destiny shall be opened.' With the giants of stone, ice, and steel gathered, the door opened—and we obtained them."

Upon returning to the fort, Peony inquires, "Oi oi, Chief! How's the adventuring going? Anything to report?"

As we show him Regirock, Peony exclaims, "Wait—you really caught Regirock from the legends?! That's ultra-mega-brilliant! Report away! Hmmm... You're sayin' this great craggy thing's Regirock, the rock giant? Is it just me, or does it bear a strikin' resemblance to our Grass-type Gym Leader?"

"Is he talking about Milo?" I ask, but the girls shrug. Peony continues, "Look at those broad, burly shoulders! This fella and Milo are a proper pair of boulders! Well, it's rocky and gianty enough, I s'pose! Let's call this expedition successful! Got anything else legendary you want to talk about?"

As we show him Regice, he says, "Hmmm... You're sayin' this great frozen-stiff thing's Regice, the ice giant? Is it just me, or does it look like it'd make one ultra-mega-dazzlin' chandelier? Wish I could light it up and show it to darlin' Nia!"

"Why would he think that Regice is a chandelier?" Alice wonders, and we all sweatdrop.

"That aside, look how massive and mighty it is! Gives me the chills just lookin' at it, I don't mind sayin'! Well, it's icy and gianty—I'll give you that! Let's consider this expedition complete! Got anything else legendary you want to talk about?"

When we show him Registeel, Peony remarks, "Hmmm... You're sayin' this great smooth thing's Registeel, the steel giant? Is it just me, or does its top half look a bit like a massive bowling ball?"

"Bowling ball?" Elena and the rest of us are a bit puzzled.

Peony continues, "Look at that blank, inscrutable mug, though... You can't guess what's goin' through its head! Well, it's steely and gianty enough, I s'pose! Let's call this and expedition well done! Got anythin' else legendary you wanna talk about?"

Next, we present Regieleki, and Peony says, "You're sayin' this great crackly thing's Regieleki, the electric giant? Y'know what it reminds me of? That colorful candy that pops and fizzes and crackles in your mouth!"

We struggle to contain our laughter at this unusual comparison. "Imagine the balance it must take to stay upright with that constantly shiftin' body! Gives me the shivers, I don't mind saying! Well, it looks electric and gianty enough. I s'pose! Let's call this and expedition well done! Got anythin' else legendary you wanna talk about?"

Finally, we show him Regidrago, and Peony remarks, "You're sayin' this great jagged thing's Regidrago, the dragon giant? Is it just me, or does it look like it'd pack a really strong pinch? It's a bit like a massive clothespin, isn't it? I'd better not go provokin' it-doubt it'd have a bit of trouble openin' wide and snappin' me up! I s'pose I'd say that's a dragony giant! May as well call this expedition a success! Looks like you've reported all there is to report on Legendary Clue 2 and the legendary giants! Smashin'! I'll mark this expedition done!"

After he stamps the report, I mention, "Now we only have one more expedition to do."

"Yeah," Elena agrees, "though I wonder what the next one will be."
