She'd thought she'd gotten used to the punch to the heartache once her eyes landed on that particular head of dark-colored hair standing below her, as she lounged a few minutes longer on one of the overhead catwalks looking into the busy DEO hub. Her crossed arms rested against the guard railing bracing her as she leaned in closer.
But movement when Kelly chuckles at something amusing Winn had just told her bringing a splintered focus and softer smile to Alex's lips along with a rib-aimed twist of guilt for the talk that was to come as her gaze draws back to her original target.
"Seriously Alex, I'm just waiting for that adorable tail of yours to just appear again and start wagging given that 'love ray' level smile your wearing." Linda comments joining the eavesdropping agent in her 'people' watching and providing a distraction and postponement from the silent staring match.
The copy of her sister choosing to stand with her back resting against the railing keeping her full attention on the bashful human next to her.
"Most times I kind of miss it too." Alex laments dropping her chin back on her crossed arms letting her eyes drift back to the suddenly smiling Maggie still in apparent deep conversation with her mother. "But I've missed my thumbs and talking instead of barking a heck of a lot more."
The sounds of her voice having drawn both her waiting visitor's gazes making Alex shift uneasy once more. Linda gave a not-so-helpful "Good luck, sis." As she patted Alex's shoulder before speeding off on what Alex guesses was a 'super call' or to find what it was her Winn was tinkering with this time in one of the converted labs.
"Yeah, stranger." Kelly greeted first with Maggie only able to give a heart-melting half smile at Alex's 'caught in the act' expression as the agent moved towards the stairs now, she'd been called on her not-so-stealthy observations. Kelly immediately stepped into her path almost as soon as Alex had taken that last descending step.
"Hey," Alex answers more on autopilot than truly paying close attention to the conversation as her eyes wander towards the direction her mother had spirited Maggie away from her.
"Oh no, angry puppy." Olsen comments drawing a little more of Alex's split attention.
"Huh?"
"You're doing that cute puppy thing again where…." The more cleanly shaven Winn steps in from Kelly's shoulder only to go immediately silent with one quietly raised eyebrow from a now glaring Alex Danvers. "I'm- Yeah…. Bye."
Alex gives a pleased smirk when her younger brother of a best friend hurriedly retreats towards his desk. With a departing "Missed the days when could be distracted by squeaky toys" in a stage-level whisper as he dropped into the seat.
It's only when she catches Maggie's agreeing half smile in her eavesdropping that some of Alex's anger fades.
Alex was about to slip over with a coy remark when once again the other leading lady in her life steps into her sightline. Not that Alex misses the winced look of pain the move triggers from Maggie or the quick way her mother tugs Maggie aside into an adjoining hallway.
"So." Kelly draws out mostly to coax Alex's sulking expression back towards her.
"So." Alex parrots rubbing nervously at one side of her head. Another holdover from her 'puppyhood' she'd yet to break after regaining the use of her voice and thumbs.
"I just have a few questions then I'll let you go." Kelly promises following Alex's trailing gaze and noting the way Alex visibly winced at her word choice despite the glaringly obvious point the other woman's eyes were searching for someone who wasn't Kelly at that very moment. "It's kind of funny in a way." Kelly smiles unable to hate the amused sadness the action triggers within herself. "how it took you being unable to talk for me to start to understand what you were saying truly."
"What do you mean? I—I haven't said anything." Alex points out as she seems to force her gaze back on the waiting Kelly.
"You don't need to say anything, Alex. That's my point." James's sister says the wet threat of tears glossing her eyes.
"Kels." Alex whispers tearing up in echoed response.
"Don't." Kelly insists. "Maggie was right about how hard it is letting you so please don't make it worse."
Alex's mouth closes at once and Kelly swears she hears a low guilty whimper as the other woman rocks back on her heels with her arms wrapping tighter around herself.
"I..I do have one last request. Well two of them actually." Kelly confesses noticing something over Alex's shoulder before her eyes flick back to hold her soon-to-be ex's.
"Anything." Alex agrees.
Kelly smiles "Anything huh?" Alex nodes oblivious to the fact Maggie had returned after a still ongoing phone call Kelly guesses from her boss over getting Alex's statement before moving ahead with wrapping the case. The shorter leather jacket-wearing woman currently eyeing them with jealous curiosity instead of being more attentive to her phone.
"Just once. I want you to kiss me the way you kissed her." Kelly asks in a low whisper even when Maggie had already attempted to turn away from them. "I've kinda felt you've always been holding out on me."
