Chapter Four -Camp Half-Blood-
"Well that was some exposure." Percy grinned as the Van rocked left and right due to the dirt road they'd gone onto.
"Yeah I wonder why," Grover looked back from the passenger seat. "That one isn't exactly a normal looking person."
Hector shrugged, "Gotta look fly."
"Fly?" Percy glanced at Grover.
"That's new." Grover frowned.
"No, not at all…in fact that's old." Annabeth eyed Hector who had no reaction to their suspicions at all. He laid his head back and waited for the van to stop, which it did a few minutes later.
"Welcome to Camp Half-Blood," Grover stepped out of the Van. "Enjoy!"
Percy and the group filed out of the Van in a hurry to be free of the cramped space. Hector followed and was amazed by the sight of the camp.
"Wow." Hector looked around.
"Yep," Percy continued walking. "That's the usual reaction!"
The group members all went different directions due to everyone in camp still not being awake yet. Hector didn't know the Camp Layout so he followed Percy who walked into a Big House.
The inside felt cozy but intense at the same time, a giant cat's head sat on the wall. It roared at Hector who recoiled quickly and unsheathed his weapon.
"Relax child," Chiron emerged from a doorway. "Seymour will not hurt you."
Percy held his laugh in, "Yeah after all he's a stuffed head."
"You knew?" Hector sideyed Percy.
"Duh." Percy was pink from holding his laugh.
"What is it you seek?" Chiron ignored Percy.
"I don't know anything about this place," Hector hesitated. "Or where everything is."
Chiron faced Percy who straightened up, "You did not give him a tour?Or a guide?"
Suddenly it was Percy who was embarrassed, his mistake was very clear to himself.
"Sorry Chiron." Percy rubbed his head.
"No worries," The Centaur sighed. "Call Nico."
Shortly after some conversation, Nico, a son of Hades, picked Hector up.
"So you're also a mistake?" Nico asked.
"Bluntly put but yes." Hector ignored Nico's bold statement.
"That's cool." Nico nodded. "How old are you?"
"I'm 17," Hector said. "You?"
"Over 80 but I like to be called 15 due to my predicament." Nico sighed.
"Word," Hector followed Nico to a dark and brooding cabin. "I'm guessing this is it?"
"Yep," Nico nodded. "Catch you later, newbie…I got a date."
Hector watched as Nico ran off to another guy who embraced him and kissed him.
"Gay huh?" Hector smiled.
He entered the Cabin to find it was dark and windowless on the inside, the coffin like beds were creepy.
"Well…might as well act the age I play and suck it up." Hector muttered.
He sat down with his Jordan Backpack and unpacked his clothes…all of which were Jordan brand as you may have guessed.
"What's with the Jordan Brand?" A girl sat on his bunk behind him.
"Favorite player…and you are?" Hector was surprised he hadn't sensed her.
"Adaliah Hyde," She grinned. "Your half sister."
"Energetic for a Hades kid." Hector grinned. "Glad I'm not alone."
"You're tall." Adaliah Hyde raised her eyebrows.
"Got his genes I guess." He avoided that topic.
"No kidding." She stood and walked off. "Enjoy meeting the rest of our siblings…most aren't as energetic."
Hector waved goodbye and stood, he exited the Cabin and looked at his watch. It was already Nine which meant it was time for breakfast.
He followed the lines and crowds to the Pavilion, it was quite loud and fun sounding.
"HEY NEW GUY OVER HERE!" A blonde guy stood waving next to Nico who seemed embarrassed.
Luckily the crowd was too busy to hear he was new or notice his height, they all remained entranced in their conversations. Hector sat down on the bench across from the stranger and Nico.
"Will Solace!" He grinned. "You've already met your brother Nico."
"Yeah…what's up Nico?" Hector had chosen not to wear the camp shirt.
"Nothing much…just told Will how tall you were and he immediately called to you." Nico frowned. "Sorry for the embarrassment."
"No problem." Hector chuckled.
"SO," Will leaned over the table. "You're an anomaly."
"How so?" Hector sipped the water he'd stolen from a table.
"You are 17…which means like Nico you're a mistake!" Will nodded.
"True, however, who said I'm actually 17?" His green eyes stared into Will's eyes.
Then he broke out laughing, nervously Nico joined in and eventually Will smiled.
"Sorry if I'm not that funny," Hector slowly stopped. "I'm a child of Hades after all."
The breakfast time went by quickly but right when everyone was about to leave, he showed up.
"CAMPERS!" Chiron yelled. "Lord Dionysus has come to announce something."
A pink nosed man in a leopard printed robe stood as everyone quieted down.
"Hello my miserable campers and Peter Johnson!" Dionysus grinned.
"Peter Johnson?" Hector glanced at Nico.
"Percy Jackson." Nico held back a smile.
"There is trouble on Olympus, which means I will not be here for a bit," He announced. "Now that doesn't mean you get to lack on your duties…in fact nobody will be leaving Camp until the issue is resolved."
Murmurs could be heard through the crowd, "What?" "Issue?" "Lockdown again?"
"But sir," Clarisse stood. "I've got to return to my classes in arizona!"
"I know Clarisse, however the God's have agreed that we will use the mist to make your stay convenient…" Dionysus made a sitting motion with his hand and she sat back down. "Now we have added activities and more free rules to compensate for this…such as Basketball,Field Day, and other events like Giving Day."
"Giving Day?" Hector murmured.
"A day where everyone can cook and share their food with the camp." Will butted in.
"Now please enjoy the rest of your day," Dionysus was rather energetic. "Till next time, Campers."
And just like that the pudgy man was gone, the air smelt like grapes. The crowd was much more energetic after hearing the events.
"The rest of the events will be listed outside the Big House on a board." Chiron shouted as the crowd filed out.
Hector said his goodbyes to Nico and Will as the Camp Day started, "Suppose I'll have to check out the courts."
He checked the map pinned on the Pavilion pillar and continued to the location. On and around the court there were at least thirty to forty people.
'My favorite sport,' Hector thought. 'I studied this for ages in the void.'
He continued to the sideline to find Percy and Jason dueling in front of the other campers who cheered and jeered at the two. The rest of the teammates enjoyed the show, and then Jason stole the ball and jammed it down on the other end. The sky rumbled and he grinned, the match was over.
"I could've won that." Percy shrugged.
"Could've,Would've, Should've Jackson." Jason grinned.
Hector walked towards the hoop and palmed the basketball, "I got next."
Jason and Percy eyed the giant Demigod, "Who's your five?"
Hector looked into the crowd and found Nico and Will, "I got Me, Nico, and Will…the last two are up to them."
Will rushed onto the court and looked around at the crowd looking for someone, Nico followed shyly.
"I want…Ian Jacobs and Laura Smith!" Will grinned.
A 5,6 Chilean guy stepped out with his blonde hair shining, he was Aphrodite's child. Following behind him came, a 5,4 african american girl.
"Alright bet." Jason grinned. "Me, Percy, my Sister Thalia, Annabeth, and Leo."
"That's not fair…that's basically The Seven!" Will groaned.
"Too bad…you've got a 6,7 guy and you're a sharpshooter." Percy butted in.
"Fine…"Will nodded. "Shoot for the ball?"
"Not a chance, Solace," Annabeth grinned. "You chose first…our ball."
Will stepped up and he checked the ball with Percy, Hector guarded Jason closely. Ian and Laura followed Leo and Annabeth while Nico stood with Thalia.
"You're gonna lose," Percy called out as he passed the ball to Thalia who quickly knocked down a three. "No matter how tall your center is."
Hector stepped out of bounds and passed the ball in to Will who walked up to half court and shot the ball, knocking down a three.
"Dunno about that." Will grinned.
The two teams mainly focused perimeter shots until the last possession, the score keeper flipped the number to 60-60. The crowd was going nuts, "OFFENSE!OFFENSE!" one side shouted while the other, "DEFENSE!DEFENSE!".
Will passed the ball in to Hector who brought the ball up to the three, closely guarded by Jason. The crowd began the countdown once it hit ten on the shot clock.
"10!"
Hector did a crossover.
"9!"
Another and then into the midrange.
"8!"
He posted up in the midrange.
"7!"
"6!"
"5!"
Then Hector began to cross and hesitate which made Jason slide left and right. Once the crowd said three, he bolted to the basket, rose in the air like MJ, and slammed the ball in furiously, almost snapping the rim of the backboard. The game was over…62-60.
The crowd was in awe, suddenly it broke out in cheers and Hector smiled. Even though he had been imprisoned and missed the evolution of Humanity…he saw potential and joy.
"Good game man," The opposite team came over and dapped his side up. "That jam was pretty special."
"Thanks." Hector smiled and then he was swarmed by campers from different cabins.
"Goodluck with the fans though!" Jason ran off with his friends laughing.
"Oh boy." Hector frowned.
