Chapter 13: Kimberly's Magical Christmas
Christmas is always a magical time of the year. Family getting together, celebrating the birth of Jesus, and generosity is coming outward just like flower petals do when they blossom out.
But, for some the holidays can be a sad time because it is the first Christmas without a loved one, worrying how you are going to buy Christmas for your children, a family spilt or maybe a loved one can make it home for the holidays.
That is exactly how it was for Kimberly. The rangers had just gotten back from the North Pole from saving Santa from Rito and Goldar. Santa was so grateful and he sent a bag of toys for all the kids at the party. She had just got a call from her mom. It turned out that she was snowed in at the airport in another state. Sadly, she wasn't going to make it back to Angel Grove until after New Year's Day.
"Hey are you okay?" Tommy asked.
"I just got a call," Kimberly sighed, as she watched Becky run up to her dad. He taken off work to see perform in the Christmas pageant. " My mom is snowed in another state. She won't be spending Christmas with me."
"You can spend Christmas with me," Tommy interrupted taking hold of her hand. "You can sleep in the guest room."
Tommy drove home and they walked inside his house. As soon as they walked in, they were greeted by James and Jan. They were carrying in Christmas gifts. "Mom, I thought we were done Christmas shopping," Tommy said as he took a seat next to Kimberly on the couch.
"We are," Jan answered with a smile. "Caroline called me and said she wasn't going to make it home. We were going next door to get Kimberly's Christmas presents. Awhile back, she left me a key to the house. Kimberly, you can stay with us until she gets back. Why don't you go and get some of your stuff."
Never before had Kimberly had as much fun on Christmas Eve as she did with Tommy's family. They watched both of the Home Alone movies, made homemade Christmas cookies and decorated them, made homemade fruit salad, and played board games. But, she didn't expect it to go on until midnight. Ever since Tommy was about 6, he would always sleep in the living room hoping to catch Santa Claus. But, he never was successful.
He glanced over at Kimberly. She was laying in a pink sleeping bag next his green one. Tommy looked over a small pink box sitting underneath the tree. He put it there last night right after she feel asleep. "Hey, Beautiful, time to wake up," Tommy whispered as he kissed her forehead. "It's Christmas morning."
"Merry Christmas," Kimberly whispered with a smile as she let out a yawn. "How long have you been awake?"
"I just woke up a few minutes ago," Tommy replied.
"Merry Christmas, you two," Jan smiled as she walked into the room. She was carrying a tray with pancakes in the shape of Christmas trees and two glasses of orange juice.
After breakfast they all opened presents. Kimberly got a pink cable sweater, a dark pink zip-up hooded jacket, and pink and white flannel. Tommy got got the same thing too, but his was green.
"It looks like there is one present left," Jan stated as she picked up the small pink box. "Kimberly, it looks like it is for you and it's from Tommy."
"Mom, can Kim and I take a walk?" Tommy asked as he took hold of her hand. "I want to give this to her at a special place-"
"-Tommy, it snowed last night and they haven't plowed the roads yet," Jan interrupted as she watched James head into the kitchen. "You can do it in here. I'm going to help your dad start cooking Christmas dinner."
Kimberly slowly opened the gift and began to tear up as soon as she saw a ring with pink heart shaped cut gem. "Beautiful, we have been through a lot these last two years," Tommy started as he took hold of her hands. "You helped me when I was the evil green ranger and you supported me when I lost my powers. When Coach Schmidt knocked you off the balance beam, I was scared I was going to loose. That wasn't the only time, I was really scared when you got sent back to 1880 and had to face Needlenose and Goldar. I never want to loose you. Will you make me the happiest man on earth and marry marry me?"
"Yes," Kimberly smiled through her tears and through her arms around his neck. "Of course, I will marry you!"
Author's note: I hope everyone has a merry Christmas.
