Jesse's little bro
Chapter 5
The accident and homecoming
Several weeks earlier Adam and Diane Pinkman left their eldest's son's home as they argued in the car.
"I can't believe that you want to leave him there," Adam argued.
"If we try to drag him home now we're only going to make things worse," Diane said.
"So you're willing to leave him with our junkie son instead?"
"What's the better option? That he runs away again and we never figure out where. And the next time we see his face is at the morgue," Diane argued back.
"How do you know we're not going to see his face at the morgue from some drug overdose while Jake is with…him?" Adam stated.
"I know what you think of Jesse but he's still our son and he's still Jake's brother. I don't think that he would let him get into those things," she explained.
"I do. And I'm done arguing. I'm going back and getting Jake," he said, making a quick U-turn.
"Adam, look out!" Diane yelled as a semi-truck blew its horn and the driver slammed on the brakes too late as he T-boned the minivan killing Diane instantly and placing Adam in critical condition. Two days later Adam died from his injuries.

The summer went by quickly for all four of them. Between the drinking, drugs and the sex. The four of them didn't want to leave each other. All promised to call, text and visit one another.
"This sucks," Jake complained as he and Jesse headed back home.
"I know it does little bro, but you said it yourself. If I don't bring you back now mom and dad could get me for kidnapping," Jesse said.
"To tell you the truth I'm surprised I didn't see my face plastered all over the place," Jake said.
"I'm not. I told you they knew you were with me. If they had reported you kidnapped or missing or whatever you'd be back home and I'd be in jail by now," Jesse said.
"Are you dropping me off at my house or are we going to your's first," Jake asked.
"When do you start school?"
"Not for another week," Jake answered.
"You want to stay with me another week, that's fine by me," Jesse said.
"I do. But I warn you. Without Ivy around I'm going to be doing a lot of jacking off," Jake said.
"That's fine. Maybe I'll join you. I do miss Faith," Jesse said.
"Ok it's a deal I'll let you know when I'm in the mood," Jake said.
"You're always in the mood. Best part about being thirteen," Jesse told him.
The two of them pulled up to the house just after dark. It seemed to the boys that it took longer to get there then to get back.
"Home sweet home," Jesse said, tossing his bag on the ground and sitting heavily on the couch.
Jake sat down next to him leaning against his shoulder and sighed.
"What's the matter?"
"I don't know. Just the thought of the whole summer being over. The parties, the raves. The girls. It seems like a whole nother world we were in and now we're back," Jake explained.
"You're being overly dramatic. It's not over. We're just back home. That's all," Jesse told him, wrapping an arm around his shoulders and kissing him on the side of the head.
"Yeah but everything feels so different. I'm different. Mom and dad are going to see it," Jake said.
"Of course they're going to see it. Hell I was with you all this time and I see it. You've grown up. That's all. Mom and dad are just going to have to accept that," Jesse explained.
"Can I roll one?"
"I thought you'd never ask. It's in my bag," Jesse said.
As Jake went to go get the weed a knock came at the door.
"Hold that thought little bro," Jesse said, getting up to answer the door.
Opening up the door Jesse saw Badger.
"Jesse man. Where've you been?"
"Been on a road trip with my brother. Had one hell of an adventure too," Jesse told him.
"Is that why you guys didn't go to the funeral?"
"What funeral? Badger, what the hell are you talking about?" Jesse asked, quickly getting irritated.
"Your parents. They were killed in a car accident. Got hit by simi. You guys didn't know?" Badger explained.
"Badger I swear if this is some kind of sick joke…," Jesse began.
"No joke man," Badger said, swiping his phone and showing Jesse the news article about Adam and Diane Pinkman.
Jesse read the article, as he began to back up from Badger. Everything was happening as if in slow motion. Badger saying something to Jesse that he couldn't catch. Until he looked up from the phone and saw Jake standing there staring at him. Tears were streaming down his cheeks but no sounds were coming from him. When time sped back up Jesse dropped Badger's phone and ran to catch Jake in a hug on his knees as the boy collapsed.
After talking to the police and explaining to them that the two of them had been on a road trip all summer. They went to their parents' home to pick up some things for Jake.
Jake walked into his room and saw his phone sitting on the nightstand next his bed where he left it. Swiping it he saw his phone had at least a dozen or so messages from the police department. He had left it behind so that his parents couldn't use the GPS to track him. He wondered if Jesse had been right. Did their parents know that he was with his brother all along? He guessed they'd never know now.
"Hey little bro, are you ready to go?" Jesse asked gently.
"Yeah, I'm ready. I just want to grab one more thing," he said.
Going into the living room he took a picture of himself and their parents. Following Jesse back out to the car Jake took one more look at the house before he left.
Getting back to Jesse's house Jake placed his things in his bedroom while Jesse spoke with Faith on the phone about selling the two houses. She had managed to find a few houses in Nevada that she recommended to him. They were also close to where her and Ivy lived. Which was where both boys wanted to move to. Jake had decided to do school online until they got settled into a new home so that he wouldn't fall behind.
Jesse realized that raising his kid brother would require him to change a lot of his habits. Deciding Jake had to come first he quit with the heavy drugs. Faith found him a job at the realtor she worked for. It was just a goffer job but it was better than making and selling meth. He didn't want Jake around the heavy stuff.
Between the insurance money and the money that they got for both his and their parents house. Jesse was able to afford a newer pick up truck and a three bedroom home in Nevada on the same street that Faith and Ivy's parents lived. Faith herself lived only a couple miles down the road. Faith offered to get the house ready for them which meant helping Jesse and Jake pick out furniture online as well telling the movers where she wanted it. Trusting Faith's opinion Jesse asked only that she not make any kind of decorations too flowery. After all it's going to be two guys living there.
A couple of weeks before the big move Jake was sitting on the couch rolling a joint when Jesse came in with a bag of groceries.
"You finished your homework?" Jesse asked, walking past him heading towards the kitchen.
"I'm halfway done. Just thought I'd take a break," Jake said.
"When you're done you can take a break. Now put it down and go finish your homework," Jesse said again.
Pouting but doing as he was told Jake went back to his computer and began finishing up the rest of his homework.
An hour later Jake went back to the couch he sat down grabbing the joint he looked around for his brother.
"Hey Jesse. I'm sparking this up with or without you," he called out.
"I'm good little bro. Go ahead without me and you better have finished your homework," Jesse called out from the kitchen.
"I did and some extra credit, check it out for yourself," Jake called out again, lighting the joint up.
"I believe you," Jesse said sitting down next to him.
Jake offered him the joint but Jesse just shook his head.
"You've cut down a lot. Why?" Jake asked.
"Because I need to. I need to make a change in my life," Jesse explained.
"You mean change for the better?" Jake asked.
"I guess, I know this'll sound weird but maybe you could help me out," Jesse said.
"You want me to put the joint out?"
"No, I'm thinking about going for my GED. It's not much but I think it's a start in the right direction," Jesse said.
"Seriously, that's great but what do you need me to do?"
"I'm going to need a tutor and you're the smartest person I know," Jesse said.
"Yeah sure, on one condition though."
"What's that?"
"You don't give up. No matter how hard things get. I'll have your back just like you've had mine," Jake announced.
"I can live with that. It's a deal," Jesse said, putting out his hand to shake.
Jake instead leaned over and hugged his brother tightly.
Two weeks later the two of them had packed up the truck and began heading to their new home as well as their new life.
"I can't wait to see Ivy again," Jake said.
"You mean you can't wait to fuck Ivy again," Jesse said.
"That too. But seriously I've missed her," Jake said.
"Well say goodbye to New Mexico, say hello to Nevada," Jesse said.
