Before we begin this chapter, I would like to say that there's a song used earlier in the book which doesn't belong to me. It belongs to Disney.

Alternate Ending Part Two

The journey back to Awa'atlu was slow and steady. There was no hurry for any upcoming battle. Time was needed to rest and heal for what was to come in the future. Payaka offered to lift some of the wounded warriors who couldn't properly ride their Skimwings; they didn't quite trust despite their chief's decree. Sylwa with Tsireya's assistance assured them there was nothing to fear and with not much a choice they chose to accept a ride.

Atuiko was gently pulled by Payaka's new adopted son and he quite enjoyed the ride. The Sully boys including Spider were enjoying a gentle ride on Tsu'tey but Lo'ak, still body-strained from bring his brother back to life turned unresponsive. Neteyam held him gently assuring him he was there for him. Tsu'tey purred, feeling guilty for his condition but Lo'ak patted his side.

Their sisters riding Payaka with Tsireya and the wounded warriors eyed him with worry. So did Neytiri and Jake riding Jake's Skimwing. The villagers gathered to greet them as they arrived, gasping at all their sour injuries. Tonowari and Ronal walked ashore. But when the mothers saw Tsu'tey gently walking ashore with the three boys on his back, they screamed.

"Don't be afraid," the chief said. "He is with us. He and his spiritual brother Lo'ak Sully saved us. And so did Payaka,"

Sylwa and Tsireya helped the wounded warriors ashore onto the sand whilst Atuiko gave the calf a little stroke. Ronal walked into the water to greet him. He recognised her as his late mother's spiritual sister; they silently grieved for her. Then Payaka approached them slowly. She eyed her tensely. "She would never hurt him," Atuiko said to her. "She saved his life when his own pod abandoned him and your spirit sister to be murdered. Whether you like it not, Sylwa truly sees. And as my father has told us, we have to change our ways and beliefs,"

Ronal watched as the calf swam over to Payaka nuzzling her affectionately. She swam over to her too. Payaka remained calm. "You violated your kind's species for a second time…but it is because of you, my spirit sister's son lives. You raise him well," she ordered sternly.

I will. Payaka vowed.

Neteyam and Spider dismounted Tsu'tey slowly. Then he settled down on all fours on the sand so that Lo'ak could stand off him easily. But as he did, his legs seemed to drop him leading to his adoptive and biological brother having to catch and help him stand up gently.

"Alright?" Spider asked. He nodded. "Maybe you should rest,"

"I've had plenty of rest," Lo'ak's attempts of reassurance weren't successful. Before his brothers could argue, a squad of kids came scurrying towards him. "Hey kids,". Her voice was weary. Their ecstatic laughs made Tsu'tey stumbled back a bit on his webbed feet with anxiety.

"It's okay, buddy," Lo'ak tried to keep him calm. His attempts to calm him were interrupted by the loud questions of the kids he had been teaching before.

"Is this your spirit brother?"

"He's so handsome,"

"Can we pet him?"

"How do they know him?" Neteyam asked. He saw a cheesy look on his younger brother's face. "Cheeky bro,"

"Go ahead. This is Tsu'tey," Lo'ak encouraged. His spirit brother was touched by what he was seeing. Even after how he had accidently hurt him, he never forgot him at all. He was teaching these kids who wanted to pet him. "It's okay," he assured him. "They want to know you,". Encouraged by his soothing words, Tsu'tey stepped forward a little lowering his head to greet the eager faces. But before he could be petted, a group of mothers came rushing forward; they were not amused.

"Get away from that daemon!" shouted one.

"And who is this?!" another pointed an accusing finger at Spider. They snarled at him. But Tsu'tey growled at them. The kids got scared all of a sudden and rushed away afraid he was a monster.

Jake came to their defence. "He's one of us. He's part of our family," his words stunned the boys. Even Spider too. Neytiri nearby was more shocked. "And that Taquamare isn't a daemon,"

"He's threatening us. Have you forgotten what it did to your daemon-blood son?" the tallest mother insulted.

"Don't ever speak like that to my son. And his injury wasn't this humane creature's fault. It was mine," Jake hung his head. "Tsu'tey is not to blame. I attacked him for no reason just for being a Taquamare. It's my fault Lo'ak got wounded and mine alone," His son was surprised to hear him own up like that. So was Tsu'tey. "He really isn't dangerous. He saved our family. And my sons," Jake was grateful beyond words to Tsu'tey for saving Lo'ak and helping him revive Neteyam. "He's a brave and loyal friend. Someone you can count on,"

Tsu'tey purred hearing such generous compliments. The people were stunned by Toruk Makto seeing this creature like his son. His words inspired the children to come forward and greet the Taquamare again. They touched his scaly head and brushed his mane. The teens laughed when they saw Tsu'tey rolling around like a dog in the sand as they stroked him. Tuk nearby decided to join in with the fun. Even Jake couldn't stop sniggering himself. Atu and the girl teens joined him and they smiled seeing such playful behaviour.

"You see?" Sylwa challenged the mothers. "Not a daemon,"

"And that goes for our new teacher of wisdom and Sezu Penu Zu as well," Tsireya clasped her hand and lifted it up into the air. The girls exchanged a heartfelt smile which the teens couldn't help but admire.

"Let us recover in the hut," Jake said. But when Lo'ak tried to take a step, he suddenly tripped and his twin caught him.

"You can't walk," she said. "What you did…you could have killed yourself,"

"I've sat on Tsu'tey back the entire journey back," he gently released himself from her arms. "I can…" he stumbled again and this time their father caught him. He accepted defeat. "I can't walk. I feel so weak,"

"Take him to my hut," Tonowari and his mate approached the group.

"Whatever power is inside you that revived your brother I must examine it," As Tsahik, Ronal could already sense something uncanny just by looking at Lo'ak and his burnt hand.

"Mother, I strongly insist that Tsu'tey join us," Tsireya requested. "It was their power together that brought back Neteyam so it is both of them you must examine together,"

"Chief, you cannot seriously expect…" the tallest mother was interrupted by his held hand.

"No harm is to come to this creature whilst he lives here," he commanded. "Bring Lo'ak and his spirit brother to the hut,". His stern glare made the mother's back down. And some of the fathers who hadn't participated in the battle backed down as well. Neteyam and Jake together lifted Lo'ak off the sand and began carrying him into the village. Tsu'tey allowed the children to give him one more affectionate purr before he followed after them.

Sylwa stared out worriedly to her twin. Tsireya clasped her hand. "He'll be alright," she promised.

"Sylwa…" Neytiri came walking behind her.

"Lo'ak needs to recover in the chief's hut," she informed. "Dad and Neteyam are with him,"

Tuk was scared. "Is he gonna be okay?"

"He'll be okay," Soxato walked to them, still grunting a little; he leaned against Roxto for a a bit of support. "Sylwa…I want to apologise profusely for my behaviour towards you and your brother. I was wrong to judge you both unfairly and harm you. I hope that in time you both can forgive me,"

"Your gratitude to my brother is more than enough," she said forgivingly.

"I still wish to make amends for my behaviour. And it is not only you I owe a heartfelt apology to," he eyed his youngest son and then his eldest who could both see a change within him.

"Why don't the rest of us go and recover?" Sylwa offered sensing they needed this heartfelt talk alone. She lifted Tuk into her arms. "In the meantime, let's all tend in the hut. And Spider will be coming in with us," she spoke quickly before her mother could refuse. She took Spider's hand and with Tsireya walking with them, they started making their way through the village. The human teen twisted his head back at the Navi woman who had threatened him and turned forward at once; he was afraid of her. Kiri hearing his shuddering glared backwards at her mother much to her confusion.

Around the village, people were tending to one another as the sun was setting. In the chief's hut, Lo'ak was laid down carefully on a mat by his father and brother. Then Tsu'tey was able to squeeze inside to be beside him. Ronal gave Jake and Neytiri a careful glance and it was clear they needed space. Reluctantly they stepped outside of the hut allowing her to perform her examination. She lit some candles and started chanting some ancient Navi words.

Watching them, Neteyam felt a dark feeling growing in the bit of his stomach. "He could have died…trying to bring me back. Why would he risk that?"

Jake sighed. "He felt guilty for what happened," he closed his eyes feeling he had to confess an awful truth. "I blamed him and Sylwa for your death,"

Neteyam was shocked. "Why?"

He sighed. "I wasn't…in my right mind,"

"So you blame them like that?" he was ashamed. After everything that had happened between them before, he'd never imagine their father would go too far with his words like that.

"I was wrong to. I wasn't expecting their forgiveness but Sylwa saved me. And your brother used his power to save us all from drowning. If he had died trying to bring you back, that would have been my fault. And mine alone,"

Aonung came to the hut and didn't g inside hwen he saw his father facially warning him to not distrub his mother's healing process. "How is he doing?". No one could answer.

As Ronal was performing holy rites on him, Lo'ak and Tsu'tey's queues were connected. But as they were, the teen's head was twisting and turning. His shallow breathing bounced off the hut walls. The chief and his family grew worried for him for within his mind, he was seeing hallucinations like the ones he had seen when connecting to the crystal embedded in the seabed during the battle. Jake wanted to rush in but Tonowari grabbed his forearm solemnly shaking his head. "It's best if you both stay out here,"

"But he could be suffering," Neteyam tried to go inside too but Aonung pulled him back by his tail. "My mother will see to it he recovers. You can't disturb her," the son and father accepted there was no choice.

Atuiko and Roxto helped their father into their hut and helped him gently sit down. "Is that better?" Atu asked. He nodded. And once he did, he began crying a little. "I'm sorry,"

"No. I'm the one who should be sorry. I was wrong about your friends. And I was wrong to both of you," his voice broke and his boys could see the regret in his eyes. "Since losing your mother, I changed so much. A part of me died that day. The best part of me. And in doing so did my best self. I hope you both can forgive me for being such a bad dad,"

"You were just trying to keep us safe," Roxto said. "Even if you were a bit of a jerk,". His father had to agree on that.

"Your apology to Sylwa is enough," Atu patted his arm. "We're just so glad we didn't lose you too. If you had died…" he sobbed again and with a weary arm, Soxato allowed him to fall against his side. Roxto too. All these weeks they had been arguing and today they had been frightened to death that they might have lost one another.

"I'm so proud of you both. You both are already wiser Navi than I have ever been in my life. Can we start over?"

Roxto nodded. "Of course,"

"So long as you don't mistreat our friends again," Atu begged.

"I can promise you I will never do that again. Lo'ak and Sylwa have influenced you both in more ways than I have ever done. They have made you better people than I ever could. The truth is…I'm lost without your mother. I miss her so much,"

Roxto sat up, crying a little. "So do we,". Seeing the clear grief in his eyes that he had bene burying but clinging onto like poison, Atuiko's mind echoed with the memory of the song his best friend had sung to him, shared by Aloa.

Oh, the waves roll low
And the waves roll high
And so it goes

His song of hope made his family cry as they remembered their joyful memories of the Metkayina's finest singer. It was at that moment Soxato realised as well that she wasn't gone. She lived on in their memories, their hearts, her song.

Under a bright blue endless sky
Waves try to measure
Days that we treasure
Wave hello
And wave goodbye

They finished together and love and happiness was shrouded around them. They embraced one another in comfort.

Inside the Sully hut, Tsireya was treating Sylwa a bit whilst Spider was cleaning Kiri's wound. "Does that hurt?"

"Not anymore Monkey Boy," she couldn't control her sniffling. "It's so good to have you back,"

"We're just so glad you're back with us," Sylwa said. She eyed the scratch across his chest. "It's doesn't hurt anymore does it?"

"No. It's fine. It's fine," he assured.

"Whatever happens, we will never leave you again," Kiri swore. "We're so sorry we left you behind,"

"You didn't leave me behind. I was captured,"

"We should have tried to rescue you,"

"That would have been suicide," Spider assured them. "They tortured me for information but…I didn't give in. Then they brought me along. What they did to all those people…" he began crying remembering all the brutality he had seen his own kind commit. Sylwa wrapped him in her wrap. "It's unforgivable,"

"All that matters is you're safe with us. And Quaritch is done for," she spoke softly. The word 'Quaritch' made him quiver. Only Kiri noticed. "And you're one of us now Spider,"

"Spider," Tuk gave him a surprise hug which he appreciated more than anything. And needed more than anything too.

"The Sea people don't like me,"

"That's not entirely true," Tsireya knelt beside him. "You are a brother of the Sullys. You're one of us as Sylwa says. And don't you worry about my parents. They know from the other clans you tried to defend them,"

"It's just like I told you before," Sylwa comforted after Tuk pulled back. "It doesn't matter where you come from. What matters is what you choose to be,"

Spider sniffled and smiled. Then he was embraced by all the girls in the room. As they did, Sylwa's head twisted to their mother standing just outside. They needed to talk. Whilst the others started cutting some fruit and prepared some broth, the girl twin joined her mother outside. "Why?" she demanded in tears. "Why did you threaten his life? Why mum?"

Neytiri held up a firm face. "I did it to save your sister,"

"It was cruel. And it was wrong. Spider has done nothing to deserve this unfair treatment you give him,"

"Have you forgotten who his…?"

Sylwa fumed to hear her speak of him like Quaritch. "He is not that man. He never was and he never will be. Whether you see it or not, he is one of us. He is my brother just as much as Lo'ak and Neteyam are to us as well," . Neytiri turned away, unable to look into her sister's disappointed face. Sylwa felt guilty a little. "I'm sorry that we've lost so much because of the Sky people. But you cannot blame all of them for our pain. When I connected to Eywa, Aunt Sylwa spoke to me. And she feels the same way as I do,"

Remembering her sister, Neytiri turned around to face her again. "What was she like?"

"She was just like you told me. Seeing the best in humans. And she believes just like me that there are many good humans out there who are nothing like the people we've faced today. Sky people is a part of who we are. Who Lo'ak is. Who Dad is. Who I am," she held up her hand. "You must learn to see that. I love you mother. But I will not hesitate to protect Spider or any good human from you,". Crying again, she walked back inside to sit with Tsireya who comforted her.

Lo'ak was calm and he was no suffering mental seizures. Inside the hut, he was sleeping against Tsu'tey who covered him in a blanket of his tail tendrils. Ronal checked his temperature. He wasn't feverish. He wasn't cold. And his pulse was running normally. She walked outside where her husband and son awaited with Jake and Neteyam. They stood up at once and the father and son eyed her worriedly. "He will be alright," she promised. Jake and Neteyam sighed in relief but their joy died down at once when they saw a serious experience. "What I sense inside him…it is a force I cannot reckon with him. He must never try and revive anyone again. If he does try again…" she dared not to finish.

"No one must ever learn of his power," Tonowari said grimly. "By my order. For now, we must let him rest,"
