The Turtle School of Martial Arts, created by Master Roshi after the fall of his own master and when a rival and friend left to start his own martial arts school, is one place which became important to one Son Goku. Though Gohan had taught Goku some martial arts, Roshi ended up becoming the master of several of Earth's greatest defenders. Ayote was among these heroes in this story, though how would she fare with meeting one certain monk who sought training from the Turtle Hermit.

At the isolated island of Kame House, Master Roshi was busying himself with watching his usual shows. Though Ayote had been a good influence on him, he wasn't completely purged of his lecherous ways, just more subdued. But as he watched his shows, a familiar ki caught his attention. He turned off the TV as he sprinted out of the door, finding a speeding object head toward his house. It was the Flying Nimbus, carrying Goku and Ayote, both of whom waved at the hermit. To say Roshi was happy to see Ayote still alive and well would be an understatement, but he kept himself together while in front of the older Saiyan.

Roshi: "Ayote. You're back. Did everything go okay when collecting the Dragon Balls?"

Ayote: "Sort of… It's a long story…"

Ayote and Goku hop off the cloud as they smile.

Goku: "Hello, sir. Remember me?"

Roshi: "I do, yes. If you're looking for another Dragon Ball, I don't have any. Sorry, kiddo."

Goku: "No. I'm not here for that. I'm here to train under you."

There was a pause as Roshi eyed the young one, raising an eyebrow before turning to Ayote, expecting her to admit that she had spoken about him a bit too much.

Ayote: "Hey, don't look at me. I just… uh… extinguished Fire Mountain with the… Kamehameha…"

Roshi's expression turned to shock then irritation as he shouted at Ayote.

Roshi: "Why did you use that move!? Were you trying to blow up that part of the world!?"

Ayote: "I limited the blast and I made sure to aim upwards! Besides, you threw out the Bansho Fan when the Ox-King needed it!"

Roshi: "It was just gathering up dust! How was I to know the thing was going to be needed!?"

The two started to bicker, causing Goku to just stare, looking back and forth at the duo. Turtle then crawled up to Goku, looking at the lad.

Turtle: "Don't worry too much. They get like this a lot of times… What I do when they get like this is…"

Turtle snuck behind Ayote, very slowly as she continued to argue with the old man. Once he was behind her, he bit her tail, causing her to suddenly jolt in pain before collapsing onto the ground.

Ayote: "Ahh… N-No… f-fair… T-Turt-tle…"

Turtle let go of the tail as Roshi took a moment to calm down, looking back at the younger Saiyan. The hermit then sizes up Goku, trying to gauge where he stands compared to the lass he raised.

Roshi: "Tell me the truth, kiddo. Why do you want to train under me?"

Goku: "Two reasons, really. One is for self improvement. Ayote's become my next big milestone to work toward beating so I figured I'd train under the guy that trained her."

Roshi looked at Ayote as she glares at Turtle after he let go of her tail. He then looks back at Goku.

Roshi: "I admit that I refined her skills and fighting potential, but as far as strength goes, Ayote's always been that strong. Ever since I met her."

Goku: "That's fine. I'll just have to catch up someday."

Roshi: "Hm. What's your other reason then?"

Goku: "I wanted to learn under the same master that taught my Grandpa Gohan. He often told me stories of the Turtle Master, Roshi, who taught him not only how to fight but life lessons that would shape his views moving forward."

Roshi was stunned silent, looking at the boy with softer eyes. Getting a better look at the kid, he recalls stories that Gohan would tell him of a boy he found when traveling up the mountains. Had he known this was the same boy as those tales… But then his mind went back to Ayote and what this meant for Earth, seeing these unusual changes happening around him.

Ayote: "Hey. There's a boat coming."

The duo look up before turning to where Ayote was looking. Indeed, a small boat was approaching the island. Climbing out of said boat was a rather curious fellow - a bald young monk with six dots on his forehead. He looked small enough to be a freshly hatched giant turtle, which Ayote did think was rather adorable. The monk looks at the group and bows.

Monk Boy: "Um… Hello. I'm here to train under Master Roshi."

Roshi stares blankly at the boy before looking at Ayote, who just looks away.

Ayote: "Don't look at me; I didn't invite this kid."

Roshi: "...Sure… So who are you, boy? And where are you from?"

Monk Boy: "My name is Krillin, sir. I'm a monk from Orin Temple. I've traveled a long way to seek your wisdom and training. I've even brought something that may entice you."

Krillin moves to his boat and pulls out some magazines. Ones that had nearly nude girls on the cover, often with seductive poses and face gestures. Roshi was certainly enticed, but then looked to Ayote and controls himself.

Roshi: "Ahem… I'll accept your… bribe, kid. But I think an honest answer to 'Why do you want my training so badly?' would be better."

Krillin: "W-Well… It's so I can become popular with the ladies of course."

Krillin stood with his chest puffed out, a bright grin on his face, and hands on his hips. No one was truly impressed. Ayote could almost smell the lie coming from this kid.

Ayote: "Popular with the kids? Sorry, shorty. But an attitude like that is going to get you only one thing. A slap to the face."

Krillin: "Hey! My name's Krillin! And who are you to say that, huh!?"

Ayote notes the name calling and smirked a bit.

Ayote: "Oh no one important, I assure you. But let's just say becoming a Turtle Student requires a little test. If Master Roshi doesn't mind, that is."

Roshi: "...Ayote…"

The old man sighs before looking back at Krillin.

Roshi: "Fine. I suppose this criteria will do in the long run… Krillin, is it? If you want to train under me, you will have to beat this young lady in a one on one fight."

Ayote: "More like you have to land a hit on me. Nothing you can't handle, right?"

Krillin: "Bring it. I have some training from the temple so this oughta be easy. Besides, no one gets away with calling me 'short'."

Goku, Turtle and Roshi move aside as the two combatants face each other off. Krillin then made the first move, jumping at Ayote with an angry look on his face.

Krillin: "Take this, you!"

As Krillin swings his punch, he finds himself… not landing the punch, and instead landing front first into the dirt, Ayote standing there as if she didn't move.

Ayote: "So about this being easy. You sure you don't want to reconsider?"

The girl smirks a bit as Krillin starts to seeth in anger. He jumps at the Saiyan again, trying to trip her up, but no matter what he tried, he couldn't land a hit on her. He even tried to throw sand at her, but with a slight burst of her ki, the sand just blows back at his face. A tired Krillin was soon on the ground, starting to cry.

Krillin: "Wh-Why are you doing this…? I wanted to one up my bullies by training with one of the strongest and wisest martial artists in the world… N-Not meet more bullies… Wh-Why does my life suck so much…?"

Ayote then kneels down in front of Krillin, placing a hand on his head to pet him.

Ayote: "Because lying like that doesn't fit you."

Krillin looked up, surprised to hear Ayote figured him out so quickly.

Krillin: "Y-You knew…?"

Ayote: "Yep. Maybe you are a little vain, but I could tell that under that little white lie was a kid who was frequently bullied where he came from. I'm not sure what it was about, but trying to hide behind the guise of trying to impress girls wasn't going to fool anyone, least of all me."

Krillin: "How come?"

Ayote: "Believe it or not, I was bullied too."

This actually shocks the group, Krillin especially. Ayote, however, chose not to delve much more into that, seeing as the memory of Planet Vegeta being destroyed hurt enough. Krillin, seeing her reaction, understood though.

Krillin: "So you were bullied, huh? …I bet if those bullies saw you now, they'd regret ever doing that to you then."

Ayote: "...Yeah… They would…"

Ayote then extends a hand to Krillin, which he accepts as he is helped onto his feet.

Ayote: "Be more honest with us, Krillin. So long as you're a Turtle Student, you're family to us. Isn't that right, Master Roshi?"

Roshi looks at both Krillin and Goku, then grins a bit. He then nods to Ayote, accepting her assessment of this duo of new students.

Roshi: "Very well. Goku. Krillin. You two will be the new students of the Turtle School. Ayote here is your senior so be sure to follow her lead as well as you train, day in to day out. And remember to eat, sleep, play, and learn as you train. This is the way of the Turtle School."

Goku & Krillin: "Yes, Master Roshi!"

And so, for the months that followed, Goku and Krillin were trained under the guidance of Master Roshi. Unlike Ayote, Krillin still didn't like Goku at first, finding him annoying and stupid due to his more simplistic nature. But as time went on, the two grew very close to each other. And Ayote could feel the duo getting stronger too as she helped train them. And she grew to enjoy their company even more. In such a short time, her adopted family grew, which only made her smile even brighter. In just another week, the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament will begin in earnest.
