1984

Severus was confused, curious and somewhat annoyed. Petunia Evans, or rather Dursley, had called him and requested his precense for something or else relating to Lily. He was confused as to why it would only show up now, but notheless, he was curious as to what it was. Despite the animosty they held towards each other as children, she had reached out to him, which would suggest this is a rather serious matter.

Severus quickly changed out of his Robes and got dressed into a pair of black jeans, and a button up dress shirt. He grabbed a leather jacket and his wand before apperating to a location near the house, then proceeded to take a taxi there. Closing his eyes, he streched out his magic to get a sense of what the magic was like around him and whether or not there were magicals close by. His aura was immediatly pinged by some powerful wards a couple of kilometres ahead. Whatever the place was, it sat on something akin to a leyline... a hotspot would be the most accurate description.

As the journey contineued, he noticed that the taxi was taking him to the magical signature. Stopping outside the house, Severus swore it felt like he was standing in a thick molases. He quickly paid the cabbie, and proceeded to the door.

The amount of magic Severus sensed in this area was on par with that of Hogwarts, it doesn't help that he sensed the weird magical leyline... no ley-spot... was pulsing out magic in a rythmatic frequency, akin to a heartbeat. It felt alive...

Ringing the doorbell, he waited a while, hearing the shuffling of footsteps and the dull thudding of somebody running down stairs.

"HI! WHO ARE YOU?!" A young boy answered the door, his wavy brown hair was ruffled and bright green eyes were sparkling in childish delight.

"Dudley! What have I told you about opening the door?" A feminine voice called out, as who, he assumed to be Petunia stepped from the Kitchen.

The woman looked different... The most notable change being her eyes, having somehow changed from the dull greenish brown into vibrant green. It was accentuated beautifully by her aurburn hair, and oval face. Severus was honestly lost for words at the sight. Was this the same Petunia he had hated as a child?

"Severus, welcome. Come on in." She invited him in, and the with the invite a massive change could be felt. At least to him, it felt as if suddenly the oppresive magicfield dulled to a faint hum, barely noticable in the background.

A ward... Was the first thing that came to his mind. It wasn't a normal one, unnoticable unless you had the talent to sense magic. Severus frowned, who had created this barrier? The flow of magic felt... Different to regular wards, yet so similar at the same time? Severus dismissed these questions for now, and entered the house.

He couldn't detect any magic inside the house except for the massive barrier that encompassed the property. Was this what Petunia wanted to show him? While it is impressive, it didn't seem to have any negative effects on her or the young boy who answered the door.

"Thank you for comming. Please have a seat." Petunia said as she gestured to the living room. "Can I get you anything to drink?"

"A cup of tea would be fine, thank you." Severus replied politely.

He observed as the woman went to work, gathering a few things from the kitchen and placing it on a tray. The more he looked at the woman, the more he noticed how different she looked. While she was clearly no where as beautiful as Lilly, she had her own unique charm. Once done, she brought the tray into the living room and set it on the tea table.

"Earl Grey, 2 sugar, no milk right?" She asked as she prepared his tea.

"Yes, thank you." He nodded, slightly stunned she knew how he liked his tea.

She set down his cup infront of him and made her, her own cup before sitting down. Sitting down in a chair opposite him, she sighed deeply, she took a sip of tea and looked up at him.

"I'm not exactly sure how to explain everything that's happened since I've seen you last..." she began.

"Maybe a demonstration would help?" She mumbled, before nodding to herself.

"Severus, I need an aouth from you, that you will not deliberately reveal anything." She asked.

He merely raised an eyebrow at her request. "And why would I do such a thing?"

"Because, I'm pretty sure the ministry has no idea what magic really is or why some people are born with it and others not." She said.

This piqued his curiousity. He nodded and took fout his wand. "I Severus Tobias Snape, swear on my magic that none of what is revealed to me here will be shared by me willingly. So mote it be."

A white light enveloped him and quickly died down again. He cast a quick Lumos charm, to reassure both himself and Petunia that he was truthful. Petunia nodded and took a deep breath before breathing out slowly.

"Magic, or rather the ability to use it depends on the soul or spirit of a person or in some cases object... However, if you were to talk about a soul, then you are talking about the impression a person leaves on the fabric of reality. The stronger the initial impression, the more a person is able to influence their surroundings. This influence is known as magic."

"For example, a rock has no mind, but it leaves an impression in reality due to the thoughts of people. If the belief is spread far and wide enough, with a strong enough basis, the rock will effect reality based on the perseptions of people."

"In folklore, we have the philosephers stone. The stone is merely a gem imbued with a artificail soul strong enough to manipulate magic. The elixir it creates is because the creator believed that he could create an object that provides imortality." She stated, causing Severus to frown.

"Sounds fimiliar right?" She asked him, and he just nodded.

"The fountain of Youth is the other object, although its much more powerful than the stone. Both created with intent strong enough to mold the very fabric of reality."

"You should know, however, that everything comes with a price... Because magic is a direct manifestation of a soul's ability to control energy and probability, if a person were to say, burn out the magic, it would kill the soul, leaving the person or item a shell at best." She continued.

Severus nodded, it made sense, if one lost their soul, they would essentaily be dead. Just look at the people who had experienced a Dementers Kiss, they were essentially drones. However, that made him think back to what the Dark Lord had done, fracturing his soul into multiple pieces and putting them in vessles. The only reason he had not become a drone, was because he held a fraction of his soul. But... didn't that mean that he essentially had less magic?

Yet, Severus knew that the Dark Lord held onto his followers with displays of his power and skill... So how did he have that much magic after splitting his soul so many times? It's something he'll have to look into.

Suddenly Severus' eyes widend and he paled considerably. The soul anchors still existed, so the Dark Lord could return. He was taken out of his musings when Petunia continued.

"Now, as for spirit, its the amount of energy your soul can manipulate and use at any one point. Muggles, as you call them, are born with extremely low capacity for energy manipulation. Therefore, they cannot use magic, but magicals on the other hand, they are born with more spirit. In effect, as they mature, their spirit capacity grows."

"My spirit according to Lily was 1 millionth of her own and 1/500th that of a squibs. With excersise and meditation, we grew my spirit to 50 units, strong enough to percieve and have a basic interaction with magic, but never to use it."

The sigh from Petunia made him think he missed something. "Lily and I performed a ritual known as a Soul Bond when I reached a certain level, which would be triggered upon her death."

"What?" Severus asked perplexed.

"We had done a soul bond. Its a ritual that transfers magic to others upon death." She revealed, flicking her had to levitate her cup back to the table for emphisis.

He froze, seeing the display of wandless magic. Suddenly the changes in Petunia made sense, magic reacted to her wants subconsiously, changing her to reflect what she wanted. Accidental magic... in an adult?
