Y'all know I loooove weird stories and stories where Edward has a tail. This is both. Enjoy!

Chapter One

"Set it down gently," I told Emmett, "There could be water under the ground."

"I got it," Emmett said, his eyes trained on the screen. His tail flicking back and forth as he kept his focus.

The ship rocked slightly when it came in contact with the ground. Emmett was quick to run his diagnostic scan and find that we were on solid rock.

"Excellent," I stood, "Go wake the men. Tell them to prepare themselves. I want this planet stripped in less than two months."

"Two months?" Emmett said as he spun around in his seat, "How the hell is that supposed to happen?"

"We have two months to prep this planet for reconstruction. Now that it's stable, I want our colonies on it as soon as possible. Before anyone else can claim it."

"Understood, commander." He said, somewhat sarcastically.

As he stood and walked back me, I shot my tail out and grabbed his ankle, effectively tripping him. He fell to the ground with a loud thud.

"Asshole," he snarled, "You're lucky you're the commander or else I'd drop you."

I chuckled, "Sure."

I pressed a few buttons on the panel to remove the protective screen over the window. It opened and revealed a desolate, black smoggy land. I smiled at the sight of that. It meant that this planet had no life on it, which meant we wouldn't have to fight anything to create our new colony.

Emmett returned, looked out the window and whistled, "That makes it easier."

"It certainly does," I said, turning to him. "Did you wake everyone?"

"The pods are waking them up now," He said, "Give it a few minutes. They've been told to meet in the mess hall. I figured the two-month deadline would sound better coming from you."

I nodded once, "Good. I'm headed there now. Send out the drones. Make one hundred percent sure everything here is dead."

"On it," he said, moving to his computer.

I walked to the mess hall, which was on the other side of the ship. People were walking of the hibernation chambers, moving awkwardly as they readjusted themselves to being awake. It had been a long voyage, nearly ten months.

Even though they were still adjusting themselves, they quickly jumped aside and put plenty of space between themselves and me. I kept my head high as I walked passed them, wanting to show them a strong commander.

I was the first into the mess hall. I could smell the food from the kitchen being prepared. My stomach rumbled loudly at the smell. I was excited for my first meal in ten months, I was already salivating.

I stood in the front of the room, waiting for everyone to take a seat. Their eyes were on me as I begun.

"Greetings brothers," I said, "I hope that you slept soundly these passed ten months because now it's time to get to work."

They cheered, beating their fists against the tables. I understood their excitement. Forging new colonies was exciting and secured our place at the top of the galactic food chain.

I put my hand up, silencing them, "We have a deadline to get this done. Two months. I want this planet ready for building in that time. I have the second crew coming then. They are on their way now. And when they get here, they expect everything to be ready for them. I expect things to be ready for them." My gaze swept over the room, "I am granting you two hours to eat, put together your sleeping units and check on your mates. After that, we get to work. Starting with the clearers."

"When are you planning on waking our mates?" someone asked.

"In a few weeks. I want the generator in the ground before I wake them, or they'll be uncomfortable and that'll slow up the work that needs to get done."

I knew this information upset the ones who were mated, but I couldn't risk anything happening. If someone, especially a mate, got hurt, then that would slow up our work and I couldn't have that. Not coming through on my word would make me look weak.

Everyone stood to grab good. I simply sat in my chair in the front of the mess hall and waited for the drone to bring my plate. As I was waiting, Jasper was making his way to me.

"Edward," Jasper nodded, "I wanted so see if we could awaken Alice earlier than planned."

"No," I said.

"Please," He begged, "She wanted the chance to see this planet before we stripped it."

"I won't risk Alice's safety. If she's angry, then I'll take the heat. It's on me. And there's nothing to see. Look outside. It is nothing but a wasteland."

"Come on Edward, you know how important it is for Alice to be here," He said, "She's spent her whole life studying this planet. She wants to see what's become of it."

"If I wake Alice then I must wake the rest of the mates. You can do everything she wants to do and share it with her."

He sighed, "Alright. But I'm not taking any heat for this. You'll tell her I tried."

My eyes narrowed, "I'll tell her whatever I want. You're lucky you're my sister's mate, or else you wouldn't get away with speaking to me like that."

An abashed look crossed his face, "I apologize commander. I meant no disrespect."

I nodded, "Eat. And prepare yourself for work."

He nodded and left to get food. A drone brought mine and I didn't hesitate to tear into the mouthwatering food. I finished it moments later, wasting no time.

I threw my plate to the side and headed to the infirmary, where my father surely was. I walked in to see that I was right, he was standing with his back to me, looking at the screen. He didn't acknowledge my entrance.

"Dad," I said, "Are you going to eat?"

"In a moment," He said, "I'm just checking everyone's stats."

"I'm sure they're fine." I told him, "You need to go eat. Food is being served. And if you don't eat then you won't get any. You know they'll eat everything."

"It's fine. I can eat later."

I sighed and leaned over to the intercom on the wall, "Bring my father a plate."

"You didn't have to do that. Truly I'm fine."

"You've been asleep for ten months. You need to eat to regain your strength or else you'll get sick."

He chuckled and then sighed softly, "You sound like your mother."

I rolled my eyes, "When the food comes, please eat. You're our best doctor so we need you around for a while."

"How's your tail?" He asked.

"My tail?" I asked pretending to act dumb as I wrapped it around my leg to avoid examination. I knew why he was asking; the tip of my tail was very raw, and sore. But not anything I couldn't handle.

"Your stats are telling me the tip of it is raw. I'm guessing you were rubbing it while you slept again. Let me see it."

"It's fine," I wrapped it tighter around my leg.

"Edward," He said, giving me the typical fatherly look, "Don't be childish. Let me see. You could get an infection."

I sighed heavily but lifted my tail for him to see. I clenched my jaw a little when he wrapped his hand around the tip, squeezing it gently. I couldn't help but hiss when he ran his fingers over the most tender spot.

"Hmm," He hummed. He reached over and grabbed a tube of cream and bandages.

"Don't… I'm fine," I said, trying to pull my tail out of his grasp. He squeezed it tightly, causing my knees to buckle, "Okay! Okay!" I gasped.

He laughed, his grip loosening, "Good. Hold still."

He covered the red tip in cream and then covered it with a bandage. I grimaced at it, knowing that the bandage was overkill.

"There," He said, "Leave that on until tonight. Then come and see me so I can check it."

I sighed, "Dad, really I'm fine. It's just a little raw, but nothing that'll kill me."

"We need to take care of our tails Edward. You could get an infection very easily. What'll you do if I have to cut it off? Hmm? You won't be the commander anymore."

"I know," I said, flicking my tail as I tried to get used to the bandage.

"It's amazing to me that you still do that. When you were a baby we had to keep your tail wrapped constantly. You always wanted to suck on it and rub the skin off it," He chuckled, "Perhaps we need to start wrapping your tail when you go into your pod."

I let my tail drop behind me, "I'm fine. Now take a moment and eat." I said as the drone came in with his food.

"Will do," he said as he turned back to the screen.

I walked out of the infirmary, keeping my tail close to my legs so no one would see the bandage. I went to the dock and got my transportation ready.

My personal transportation vehicle was something I was happy to have. The other transportation vehicles were made to hold several men. They were tight and moved very slowly. Mine, however, moved quickly and was only made to carry me.

"You're heading out now?" Emmett said when he walked into the dock.

"Yeah. I want to survey the area. Maybe find something as a keepsake. This is a special planet you know."

Emmett looked out of the dock's glass wall, "It's crazy to think that this is our ancestral planet. Look what's become of it."

"As we were landing, I kept thinking of the history we were taught. It amazes me that our ancestors lived and thrived here."

"Now look at it," Emmett said sullenly.

"We'll rebuild it," I said, "Have hope. In just a little more than nine months, we'll have a thriving civilization. And we won't make the same mistakes our ancestors did."

"If you find a pretty rock, or something," Emmett said, "Would you grab it for me? For Rosie. She'll appreciate it when she wakes."

"I'll see what I can find, but this is a shithole right now. I can't imagine anything pretty out in that wasteland."

He chuckled, "Well if you do find something, bring it back please."

"I will try." I said as I pressed my hand against the start pad. The vehicle roared to life, ready to be driven after ten long months.

I placed both my feet on the pads before taking off into the wasteland. I inhaled deeply as I drove.

I praised the sweet goddess above for my adaptable lungs. I was sure that if I didn't have them, I'd probably suffocate from the amount of unclean, thick air around me.

I had driven through the big field to get to the top of the black mountain. Once I was at the peak, I parked my vehicle to look out over the land. I stood out the edge and looked around.

My people had started working. The first step was to strip the area of land we had chosen, and that meant digging up the ground to find any minerals that would conflict with the things we needed to build. The second step was to dig extremely deeply and place the massive generator that powered our civilizations. That alone was a two-week endeavor and it had to be worked on at all times. I usually separated the men into two groups. Those who'd work at night and those who'd work during the day.

I tried to envision our new city, but it was sort of hard. The land was always so ugly, and it would be ugly for a long while. Even when we were finished, it would still be ugly. It wouldn't start looking good until the builders came.

That I was excited for. It was my favorite part when building a new city. My second favorite part was when our people came and got to see our new home. Our final settlement.

This new city was to be our new capitol. It would be the connector to all of our civilizations. It would be my new home soon. And the home to all of my children.

That is, if I find my mate. I had seen nearly every female that my people had to offer, and not one of them had started the mating frenzy within me. If it didn't happen soon, I'd be forced to select one of the unmateable females to breed with.

That was something I didn't want. Those who were unmateable produced weak, unsuccessful offspring. I wanted strong children to carry on my legacy.

The communicator on my watch rang, flashing Jasper's name. I sighed and answered it.

"Yeah?"

"Is that you up on the mountain?" He asked.

"I certainly hope so," I said. "I'm looking over the land we've chosen. Deciding where we should put things."

"Ah," He said, "Since you're up there, you can see we've started the stripping process."

"Have you found anything in the soil?"

"It's poisoned. But it's not like we didn't expect that. Should we start treating it? Or continue stripping?"

"Continue stripping," I told him. "I want to know what's in the soil before we treat it. I don't want another repeat of Andiphus."

"Understood. Should I split the group in half now? Have them work through the night stripping?"

"No, I'll allow them to settle into the planet's atmosphere. Tomorrow we'll split the group. I want to get everything done before the second crew comes. We work around the clock. Make sure they are all aware of this."

"Of course."

I closed my watch, ending the conversation. I knew I'd need to get back down there soon to help Jasper command and get everything in order, but I wanted to just take a moment to look at the before picture.

I held my wrist up, taking several pictures of the land with my watch. I planned on using these pictures to show the younger generations what we came from. This planet, albeit a wasteland, was our mother planet. We were evolved here, and now we finally made it back.

As I was taking my pictures, I heard the scratching of what sounded like nails against a stone surface. I turned, looking at the rock wall behind me.

The hairs on the back of my neck stood. I recognized the fight or flight instinct, but there was something else inside of my stirring that I didn't recognize. My tail flickered back and forth as the confusing emotions swirled inside my body.

After a moment of scanning the area, I figured the best thing to do was just leave and come back with others. I sat on my vehicle, preparing myself to head back down to base when suddenly something dropped onto my back.

I yelped in surprised, trying to throw whatever was on my back off of me. Whatever it was bit down on my shoulder, just barely missing the soft skin on my neck. Any fighting training I had, went out the window. Panic set in and I slammed onto my back.

As silly as it was, it worked. The creature released its hold and went limp underneath me. I scrambled to get back onto my feet. I wanted to get a look at the creature, because all of our analysis of this planet had shown there was absolutely no form of life, except a little bacterium.

The creature was sprawled out on the ground, either passed out or dead, I couldn't be sure. I knelt down to get a closer look at the creature. I had to cover my nose because its stench burned the inside of my nose.

The creature was covered in what seemed to be a black paste, making it hard to see any finer details. The details I could see though, was that it had four limbs and a head. On top of its head a matted mess of what I could assume was hair, or a mane of some sort.

I reached a hand down to turn its face, to get a better look at its face. As my fingers touched its cheek, its eyes opened. I was now staring into a pair of big brown eyes, that had flecks of white sprinkled through them.

I jumped back, literally shocked as a bolt of electricity ran through my core. The only thing that concerned me now, was getting this creature to safety.

Hope you enjoyed! If you're able to read this, remember, there is a strange glitch with FF that makes new stories unavailable for like 48 hours or something. So, if you see it one day then it disappears, don't worry, it'll be back up in 48 hours! I will be updating again!
