A/N: Thank you to someone I follow on Twitter for the idea! Funnily enough I had been thinking of writing something like this but didn't know what to call it or exactly what direction to take it, but reading their post helped me get some ideas
He sharply inhaled as he sat up straight in bed, as thunder rumbled outside and the gentle pitter-patter of water hitting the glass of his window greeted him when he woke up, his eyes flying open. Kuro held a hand to his head, feeling like he had a bit of a headache as he gently pushed his bed covers off of him and pulled his legs over the side of the bed, sighing softly with a small hum of irritation.
Had that been a dream...? It felt so real, though. From his emotions, the rain falling on him, and the voices.
"Well, obviously it was a dream, you idiot. You just woke up." He muttered to himself, sighing as he shook his head. But he couldn't but think that maybe it hadn't been a dream, and at some point in time, it had been real. But his brain felt fuzzy just trying to remember all the details.
When Kuro somehow managed to escape his... well, I guess we'll just call it purgatory since it honestly felt like hell after some point in time, he had ended up in a forest in the middle of nowhere. And Shiro was no where to be found. He searched everywhere for his partner, searched the entire forest, but had found nothing. After days of searching, he started to feel something he'd never felt before in his life: hungry. He'd heard the emotion described by human before but had never felt it himself. But he remembered someone telling him there was a village somewhere nearby. Maybe they would have food? So with his stomach making abhorrent and annoying noises he'd never heard before in his life, he began trudging through the forest to find the village.
When he finally made it out of the forest, he found himself by a clearing, with some sort of tiny house looking thing and a box, with these red frame-like structures at the entrance. He'd never seen anything before. He walked through the red-frame and was greeted with.. quite frankly, a lot of noise. He didn't know what these were at the time, but it was the honking of cars, dinging of bicyclists as they passed by. Along with low quiet chatter of the occasional group of people, and a low rumble in the sky overhead. He'd heard a human tell him about it once. Thunder, he believed it's called... yeah.
Regardless, where ever he was, was huge. There were buildings that stood taller than anything Kuro could possibly imagine, as well as smaller buildings. The alleyway he was in was nestled between a mixture of people's houses and small shops. It was very colorful, and some of the signs were bright with colors. But it was in a language he wasn't sure he recognized. The curves and stroke marks of the characters on the signs just made him feel more confused. Where the hell am I? He thought to himself. Regardless, his stomach was making that irritating low-tone growling sound again. He sighed, feeling a bit faint. He needed to see if he could find something to tell him where he was, or maybe point him to where the village could be.
With uneasy steps, feeling like he might fall over at any second, he began to walk out from underneath the odd red frame structure and out into the alleyway between the buildings. He walked for what felt like forever, searching for any sign of where he could be. He'd occasionally bump shoulders with people, but would apologize as he did. He was honestly starting to feel exhausted a few hours in of straight walking. His vision was a bit blurry, and unfocused, and he was practically dragging his legs.
At some point while he was walking down the sidewalks, he passed an odd area where there was a gap, with these colored lights and whine horizontal lines on the ground leading from one side to the other. Standing there was a group of four people. Their faces had been blurry, and he couldn't remember the details but he's pretty sure the one guy had a few strands of hair that was a completely different color from the rest of his darker hair. The other gentleman was loud, but energetic and seemed unable to really sit still, with a bit slightly longer blonde hair. One of the other people had grey hair, speaking in a soft voice and trying to get the blonde haired one to calm down a bit. And then there was another taller dark haired gentlemen, with streaks of red in his hair that reminded Kuro of his own, except they were a bit brighter. The gentleman spoke in a low voice that seemed quite soothing honestly, probably anyone who walked by would think so.
A light rain was falling, so Kuro had pulled up his hood and was shuffling past the crowds of people, and ended up brushing shoulders with one of the men in the group. As he passed them, he felt his heart ache a bit, or like an invisible string was being pulled taught the further he walked away. Images flashed inside his mind but the images were nothing but blurry, overexposed and completely indiscernible, but he heard soft laughter in his head, and sounds of people talking. Feelings of happiness, sadness, but mostly tender feelings of companionship arose in his heart.
Kuro stopped walking as the invisible string felt like it was pulled at the most it could, as if trying to pull him back. Thunder rumbled softly overhead and Kuro closed his eyes for a moment, feeling his headache worsen while the string was pulled tighter. His brow furrowed and he growled slightly, irritated that he was confused, that he didn't know what these feelings were nor why he was feeling them. He gently turned his head to look behind him as lightning flickered, and it felt like the string's pull became weak. The group of gentlemen were no longer standing there, just replaced by a steady moving crowd of people coming from the other side. He frowned, suddenly feeling a little sad though... he had no idea why.
He sighed, shaking his head, telling himself he was probably seeing things and there hadn't been anyone there at all, before he turned back around to face forward, tilting his head back down and continuing to walk, shoving his hands in his pockets while rain began to fall a bit harsher. All of a sudden, a hole opened in the ground in front of him and he fell in, and started screaming.
Kuro rubbed his head again with a soft groan while thunder rumbled outside, shaking his head as he recalled the vivid dream. Yeah... it had to be a dream. He's pretty sure if a hole opened up in front of him in the ground and swallowed him, he'd remember something like that.
Still... those people in his 'dream' or whatever... they felt familiar. He hadn't seen their faces, and their silhouettes had been blurry. The most familiar strangers he'd ever seen. But... it was just a dream. His mind was probably playing tricks on him. Though he couldn't help but feel like it wasn't just a dream. He could've sworn he remembered something like that happening... but nothing even came to mind.
With the weird dream still stuck in his head, he groggily laid back down in his bed and pulled the covers back over him, sighing softly as he closed his eyes, brow furrowing for a moment before settling as he slightly smiled, the sounds of laughter and voices echoing in his mind.
" You'll always be one of the boys. "
