Prologue

The bright sun high overhead shone over the sandy beach. Many people and Pokemon alike were playing in the water, but she was taking refuge from the bright rays by sitting under a large tree. Not very far from her seated form was a small, oval-shaped Pokemon. It'd wandered up to her, and it was now basking on the sand with her.

It was kinda cute, the longer she looked at it. Along its back were two rows of small pink spikes. Dot-like pink eyes and a white mouth, even a cute puffy white tail, were visible to her. The notebook she had was opened to a fresh page as she sketched it.

It was quiet as she worked on the sketch for her journal, only jolting from her inner thoughts when the patter of footsteps bounding over the sand got closer to her. She saw two familiar creatures dance into the corner of her vision, and she smiled. They both settled by her legs, looking expectantly at her as their tails wagged.

"Vee!"

Kagome smiled as the two Eevees pawed at her legs some, wanting attention and for her to give it to them. The one on her right had a pink and black ribbon tied around its neck. That one was hers, but the one on her left side wasn't. She looked at him, curious as to where his trainer was, but she wasn't left waiting for long.

"Oh! This is where you went," a familiar voice met her ears not long after both Eevees settled down next to her. Kagome looked up, blinking electric blue eyes as the speaker joined her under the tree. "I've been looking for you for a while now."

"Figured you sent them to come find me, Ilima," Kagome said after a minute.

He promptly noticed her notebook, and the Pokemon sitting a few feet away from her. "Why'd you sketch it?" Ilima asked, tilting his head to the side in curiosity, pink hair swaying some. "I didn't think they were new to you."

"They're not," she said, and she looked back down to resume her task at hand, "but it looked too cute not to. Won't hurt nothin'," she added on with a quiet laugh.

As she continued her sketch, Ilima let his gaze drift from her working hands and let it settle on the girl beside him. Her long, uncontrolled raven hair had been pinned up in a high ponytail to better combat the heat and sun, and her pale skin was flushed little from the warm air. A choker with a dark blue band was around her neck, a silver metal charm hanging off of it. Despite the sunny weather, her clothing consisted of her normal dark style. It contrasted against the warm sand, even in the shade of the tree they were under.

"Did you give it any thought?" Kagome asked, her voice going quieter. Ilima looked at her, gray-blue eyes blinking in curiosity. However, not long after her question, the initial confusion faded as he recalled what she was speaking about.

Their talk from last week returned to his mind as she sat quietly waiting for his answer.

"You're going home?" Ilima asked, looking at the girl who sat playing with their Eevees. He saw her nod before she stood up, dusting off the back of her black skirt.

"Yeah," Kagome said as she approached him. Her Eevee leaped up onto her shoulder as she moved away. "My little sister is gonna do her gym challenge soon, and I wanna be there to see her off, y'know? And knowin' my big brother, it's somethin' I don't wanna miss." She went silent then, fingers playing with the hemming of her shirt. "If you want… you can come with me," she said softly. "Y'know... meet my family 'n stuff."

The last part took him by surprise, but not in a bad way. A thrum of happiness shot through him when she said it. She sounded a little nervous, though. He'd heard a lot of them from her.

"You can think it over," she added then. "There's still some time before I gotta go."

Either way, she'd be heading back to her hometown in her home region.

"I'd be glad to go!" Ilima said, smiling broadly at her.

"I was kinda worried that you wouldn't want to," she admitted.

"Don't be silly!" Ilima exclaimed, his outburst taking her by surprise. "Of course, I'd want to meet your family."

Kagome smiled when she heard those words, part of her worry leaving her body. The part that stuck around, however, was concerning something else. Piers, after all, had scared off many of her guy friends before- and those had just been her friends. Some of them he didn't even mean to! One too many glares had sent them running before she knew what even happened.

She spared another short glance at Ilima. He didn't intimidate easily, so maybe she was worrying for nothing. If he was, then they wouldn't even be together now. She hadn't been the most inviting person when they first met after she showed up in Alola, coming with the intent of researching regional variants of Pokemon forms.

Persistence eventually caused her to open up and be more receptive to him, and their often run-ins turned into a warm friendship. Well, up until the Alola League had concluded when he asked her out.

That didn't feel so long ago, but in reality, it was nearly a year ago.

Anyway, it wasn't like Piers didn't know about Ilima. She talked about him often, at least, so she had hope that he'd at least try to be nice.

It was getting late, and sleep was steadily calling her. She rubbed her eyes as she sat down on the edge of the bed. Rolling around near her feet was her Zoroark. After a moment, she sat up and nudged her head onto Kagome's lap, looking up at her with teal eyes. Knowing what she wanted, Kagome rested her hand on the top of her head, and she began to gently pet her.

Zoroark gave a rumble of content as Kagome rubbed the top of her head. Tomorrow would be a busy day for them. Everything was ready for when they left. Ilima looked down at where Zoroark was lying before he went to join Kagome on the bed.

"You know, Zorua and Zoroark aren't commonly found roamin' freely in Galar," Kagome said quietly, and he looked at her.

"Zorua was your first Pokemon, right?" Ilima asked, and Kagome nodded.

"My brother actually caught her for me." Kagome paused and looked at him a second later. "He's the one that found her." Zoroark looked up impatiently when Kagome stopped petting her, silently glaring at her until she started petting her again. "She was roughed up really bad. Pretty sure it was a poacher that took her from where she belonged, and she got away."

Kagome frowned at the memory of the bad state she'd been found in.

"We fixed her up, and she was good as new in no time at all," she said then. "By then, she was attached to me, and so Piers caught her for me." Kagome smiled and looked at Ilima then. "It's been a while since she's seen him, so she's excited, too!"

It had, after all, been well over a year since she'd left already

With a sigh, Kagome fell back and closed her eyes. Despite any worries she may feel, she was still excited to go home and see her siblings.

Auroua-chan: Okay so I wanted to do this for a while now. This will most likely follow the game's plot.

Kagome's current team is:

Zoroark
Eevee
Alolan Ninetales

The other mons I haven't decided on, so suggestions are more than welcome. Preference would be Alola/Galar mons, but all suggestions are welcome.

Anyway, that's it for now! Thank you for reading, and I hope you all enjoyed. Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not, sorry.

Please remember to Review&Favorite&Follow, thank you!

Bye for now~
