A/N:

Hi guys, I know it's been a really long time since I posted anything here, and I apologize for that. I lost any creative spark once I started my job, and am now finally finding it again after switching my schedule. 'Chapter' 2 will be uploaded soon, and I will try to get to a more frequent and consistent schedule.

My inspiration for this story comes from the Divine Beast Dungeon Themes, wherein two Morse Code messages are heard throughout all four themes: S.O.S. (Save Our Ship) and S.A.D (Search And Destroy). These gave me ideas as to write a series of one-shots of the fates of the Champions.

I own nothing.

Hyrule, 10,000 BG

The Sheikah Tribe of Hyrule were a highly technologically advanced civilization. They had built many machines and weapons, known as Guardians, to fight back against the known imminent and ever-returning threat known as Calamity Ganon. The most notable of these machines were four colossal mechanical animals, known as the Divine Beasts. They were each built to resemble an elephant, a salamander, an eagle, and a camel, and together they were to be piloted by only the most elite individual of the four non-Hylian races of Hyrule. The elephant, Vah Ruta, was named for the Sage of Water, Ruto of the Zora. The salamander was called Rudania, after the Goron Darunia, the Sage of Fire. Vah Medoh, the eagle, honored the Rito Medli, the Sage of the Earth. Finally, the camel, Vah Naboris, paid tribute to Nabooru, the Gerudo Sage of Spirit.

With the four imposing Divine Beasts on their side, as well as an army of mechanical Guardians, the Sheikah Tribe of old were able to beat back Calamity Ganon and his forces, and peace returned to Hyrule once again. However, the ruling king at the time was fearful of the amount of power that these Divine Beasts beheld, and ordered them and all other Sheikah technology to be buried deep beneath the earth. And so, the Divine Beasts were slowly lost to history...

Hyrule, ? AZ

The birth of Princess Zelda was a joyous day for the kingdom of Hyrule. The whole kingdom celebrated the arrival of the little girl, and it seemed as though peace would rule. Baby Zelda was visited day in and day out by the loving townsfolk. From the moment she could walk and talk, Zelda had always been interested in the ancient Sheikah technology that was unearthed per her father's orders. Despite her growing interest in research, Zelda was always under instruction to study and train to awaken her sealing powers. But this was while the Queen was still alive and could bring balance to the princess' curriculum. But this was not to last. When Zelda was six, the Queen died unexpectedly, and the entire kingdom mourned. Now, without her mother's instructions, her priorities were being reorganized and things became even more urgent. Any and all technological research Zelda was conducting was now banned in favor of her studying and training her dormant sealing powers. And so Zelda and King Rhoam's relationship grew strained.

Eventually it was prophesied that Calamity Ganon would be revived and return on Zelda's 17th birthday. Sometime after this prophecy was issued, Zelda was appointed a personal knight to protect her, a young man named Link. After realizing that the Divine Beasts they had discovered needed Pilots, she, Link, and a few Royal Knights as escorts visited each of the races that lived in Hyrule; the Zora in Lanayru, the Gorons in Eldin, the Rito of Tabantha, and the Gerudo of the Wasteland regions and chose a Champion to steer the Divine Beasts. To pilot Divine Beast Vah Ruta, she selected Princess Mipha of the Zora. For Divine Beast Vah Rudania, she sought out Lord Daruk of the Gorons. For Divine Beast Vah Medoh, she requested Master Revali of the Rito, and finally, to captain the Divine Beast Vah Naboris, she called upon Lady Urbosa of the Gerudo. Each accepted the request to join forces against the Calamity and, along with the young knight Link, was dubbed 'Champion.' For a time there was peace, as everyone had been preparing for the inevitable return of Calamity Ganon. The mobile Guardians were primed and ready for combat, and the Divine Beasts had Pilots and were fully operational. The only issue present was that Zelda had traveled to both the Spring of Power and the Spring of Courage in the hopes of being able to awaken her sealing powers. These visits had been in vain, and the last hope Zelda had lie at the Spring of Wisdom, atop of Mount Lanayru. Unfortunately, yet another issue arose; the Spring of Wisdom was forbidden to anyone below the age of 17. They had no choice, and so Zelda called upon Link and the four Champions to escort her to the mountain.

Zelda descended the mountain, a look of defeat painted her face. She'd had no luck, and the Calamity was coming. The four Champions prepared to return to their Divine Beasts. Right as they were about to leave, a terrible rumble shook the ground. Zelda turned towards Hyrule Castle and gasped in horror; Ganon had returned, and the group looked on in horror as the army of Guardians was taken over by Malice, and they started targeting innocents. Link and Zelda hurried back to the castle, while the Champions traveled to their Divine Beasts and faced the shards of Calamity Ganon within.

Hyrule, 0 AG

They all knew this day would come, they just didn't expect it to happen so soon. Hyrule Castle had been besieged, Malice-infested Guardians now roamed the grounds freely, taking no care to distinguish ally from enemy. Townsfolk fled in panic, while Guardians shot them down. King Bosphoramus Rhoam Hyrule himself was killed as well, and Link and Zelda fled the kingdom on the King's last orders.

The four Champions; Princess Mipha of the Zora, Lord Daruk of the Gorons, Master Revali of the Rito, and Lady Urbosa of the Gerudo, all hurried to their Divine Beasts to pilot them and aid in the fight against Calamity Ganon. Now, the Malice was slowly invading and taking over the Divine Beasts, while their Champions took their last stands within.

A/N:

So, this is the prologue, I hope it works. BG, AZ, and AG stand for 'Before Ganon', 'After Zelda', and 'After Ganon'. '0 AG' starts the day the Calamity returned. I wasn't sure how else to label it or refer to it as, so bear with me. Also some of this is my headcanon and not entirely factual, it's just how I imagined it. I hope this is a coherent prologue to establish context, as it's been a while since I understood the 'Breath of the Wild' timeline.
