Summary:

Hermione Granger's life has taken a bit of a turn. After completing her eighth year at Hogwarts, she's gone on to become one of the most talented healers that St. Mungo's has ever seen. Along with her partner, Draco Malfoy, professionally her life couldn't be better. Her personal life, however, leaves little to be desired.
She feels stuck in an engagement to Ron Weasley, all because they share a child together. While Hermione loves Rose dearly and Ron is an amazing father to her, Hermione doesn't feel that spark when she looks at the man.
She does find that spark however, on a late night, with another wizard. After finding herself falling into bed with her partner, Hermione wakes up in a rush to find none other than Theodore Nott sitting and watching her, and he's decided that he also wants her, and Hermione wants him.
To make this situation worse, Draco is also married and has a son just a few months younger than Rose. And to top it off, Hermione finds herself sitting in her bathroom looking at the diagnostic telling her that she's pregnant, and she's not entirely sure what wizard is the father.

Needless to say, its complicated...

Notes: In response to a prompt by Anonymous in the DreomioneFest2022 collection.

Prompt:

Character A is cheating on their significant other with characters B/C

Each chapter is themed after a T Swift song, the chapter titles will tell you what one. This is my Dreomione meets Swiftie.

I'll say this loud and I'll say this proud, Dreomione are all in the WRONG here. They are selfish and don't really think beyond what they want while they're hurting everyone else around them. Theo is possessive, in the most beautiful way possible. This is not a Ron bashing story (gasp, I know) and he's a victim to Hermione being bored and growing past him.

It's a beautiful and chaotic mess. First three chapters are posted for the fest, the rest will follow.

Chapter 1: Enchanted

Astoria Greengrass had been born and raised to be one thing and one thing only: Lady Malfoy.

Her earliest memories included being dragged before the Malfoy family, giving a perfect low curtsy. She'd stand quietly in the corner while her parents went over contracts and tried to ensure that her governess was teaching an approved course list. Nothing extra, but also nothing that would make her dim witted.

With her elder sister already betrothed at birth to Marcus Flint, the Malfoy family weren't able to have the eldest Greengrass daughter and were instead given the option of Astoria as a match for their heir. Daphne's birth had come just months before the Malfoys discovered they were finally to be blessed with a child of their own, otherwise it would have been Daphne's fate to be with the young Lord. Alas, when Astoria's mother fell pregnant again shortly after Draco's birth, the two families agreed that if the second Greengrass child was a daughter that they would combine their bloodlines, strengthening their ties to the Sacred Twenty-Eight.

And that's how it went, every summer starting at the age of eight, Astoria would be brought to the Malfoy Manor while Daphne was sent to Flint Castle so each girl could get to know their betrothed and learn from their future mothers-in-law what each of their future Houses would expect of them and their part in the running of their estates.

During that first summer visit, Astoria was awestruck by Draco. His bright white hair a complete contrast to her brown and his silver eyes were such an odd colour that Astoria would stand in front of her mirror every night looking at herself and trying to picture what their future children would look like. They would be beautiful and perfect, with his porcelain complexion and her round eyes, they'd be the most stunning family.

Her mornings were filled with lessons taught by Mrs. Malfoy, while her afternoons were spent spending time watching Draco fly around his private quidditch pitch. Occasionally they would be joined by his friends, and he wouldn't spare her a second glance, but she didn't mind. She knew that part of being a good wife included supporting her husband in any way he needed her.

When Astoria finally turned eleven, she was thrilled at the idea of finally being allowed around other children and the possibility of getting to make friends of her own. For as much fun as she always had with Draco over the summer, she never felt the connection her mother promised would come with time. Instead of feeling their bond growing, Astoria felt like she was an inconvenience at the best of times to Draco.

During her sorting ceremony, Astoria realised that this might be the only time in her life where she might have an identity outside of being the future Lady Malfoy. Visions of her mother and Mrs. Malfoy quickly helped her push that thought aside though, because she knew what her duty to her family was. So, when the sorting hat offered to put her Hufflepuff, she asked to be placed in Slytherin instead with her sister and betrothed.

The pug-nosed girl that she knew to be Pansy Parkinson sat near her lovely golden-haired sister, who seemed to have everyone around her entranced by whatever she was saying. Even as her arms moved along with whatever story she was telling, looking foolish in Astoria's opinion, everyone near her laughed. A pang of jealousy shot through Astoria at the sight, and she chose to ignore her sister, opting to move towards Draco, but before she could sit, she was blocked by none other than Theodore Nott.

The curly haired brunette wizard glared at her, his blue eyes terrifying Astoria as she remembered the stories of his mad father that she'd overheard from her parents one night over the summer. Nott Sr had murdered his Lady wife in cold blood, and the Auror department was doing nothing for it. The mad man had approached her parents, requesting a betrothal contract between his son and one of their daughters, and was furious when he was turned down.

The last Astoria had overheard was that the Parkinson family had been approached next and that they were in talks.

"Hello, Draco," Astoria's voice was soft and meek, just as her mother had taught her to be. Daphne's hands waved wildly in the air, not at all ladylike, but she was the smarter and prettier sister. She was allowed to get away with things that Astoria was not.

When he made no move to acknowledge her, Astoria bowed her head at her clear dismissal and moved away to take her place near the Carrow twins that she would be sharing a dorm with for the next seven years. Maybe it was just because she was a first year and Draco was in his second year that he ignored her, they would have many more opportunities to grow their bond over the upcoming years before they were to be married.

ooo

"You can't go to the Yule Ball with Parkinson; how will that look?" Astoria stomped her foot in front of Draco, making him roll his eyes.

"She's just a friend, Tori. Theo can't bring her, and she doesn't want to go alone. Plus, you're too young to attend anyway, I don't know why you're getting your knickers in a twist." Draco was fixing his silver cufflinks and straightening his dress robes, not even giving her the courtesy to look at her, instead only studying his reflection.

"Had you asked me, I would have been able to go. Ginny Weasley is going with that Longbottom boy; do you know how insufferable she's been since he's asked her? We're betrothed, I would have thought–"

"Then you thought wrong. I never gave you any indication that I was going to be asking you to accompany me, so I don't understand what you're so upset about." Draco waved his wand over the top of his head, causing his hair to fall flat and perfectly swept to the side. The new look he'd adopted in the past two years made him look even more handsome than he had when he'd slicked his hair back when he was younger.

"We're to be married!" Astoria picked up a box of chocolates sitting on a side table and threw it at the mirror with all her force. She missed, instead hitting the wall coming nowhere close to where Draco stood.

The only physical reaction Astoria was granted from her outburst was the flicker of Draco's eyes to where the box had collided with the stone. "Well, Goyle isn't going to be happy about that. Just, go away Astoria. Don't you have anyone else to bother?" Draco finally turned around, his narrow frame still not filled out and a bit of the youthful roundness still clinging to his face. Damn him for being so handsome.

"I'm going to be your wife one day; do you plan on ignoring me even then?" Astoria didn't bother trying to hide the tears brimming in her eyes as she made the statement. Her betrothed didn't even have the decency to look ashamed, instead rolling his eyes at her.

Not bothering to say anything else, Draco brushed past her, leaving Astoria sitting on the floor of his dorm room with her head in her hands while she cried for the love she had wished for.

ooo

"Astoria, come," her sister's harsh whisper woke her with a start. Not even holding her wand, but a candle, she held out her hand urging her younger sister to wake.

"Daph? What's going on?" Astoria asked, keeping her voice low as she slipped from the bed and into her travelling cloak that Daphne had thrust into her chest. "Where are we going? It's the middle of the night."

"Draco let Death Eaters into the castle. Your ties to him put us at risk, we have to go now. He gave me an emergency port key to get us out before the authorities arrive." Daphne did up the buttons that Astoria hadn't finished, as her shock of what her sister had said struck her.

"He did, he'd protect me?" Astoria's confusion must have been evident on her face as her sister rolled her eyes and pulled the hood over her head.

"Of course, he'd protect you, honestly you daft girl. The two of you are to be wed, regardless of how he's treated you now, you are still to be his wife." As the portkey pulled the two sisters away, Astoria began to wonder if she'd been wrong about her future after all.

ooo

Twilight was upon them, and Astoria stood, a bouquet clenched in her hands as she peered out the window overlooking the hedge maze in the Malfoy gardens. It was her wedding day and the day of the summer solstice. One of the most magically powerful days of the year, making it a popular wedding day for most pureblood families.

"Wine?" her mother asked, handing a glass to Astoria as she came up behind her. "You look beautiful, he's not going to know what to think when he sees you." Anita Greengrass looked her over, with the same soft green eyes that she'd passed onto Astoria. "You're a vision, darling, I couldn't be prouder of you."

Accepting the glass, Astoria winced at the first taste. Coughing on the drink, Astoria looked to her mother, the question clearly painted on her face. The older witch smiled softly and let out a chuckle before cupping her daughter's cheek. "The fertility potion always has a bit of a bite to it, but no need to worry my dear, when you consummate your marriage tonight you will be with child, and it'll be worth it."

"I don't know if Draco wants to have children straight away though, mother." Astoria said, still taking another drink from the goblet. "Shouldn't I have asked him before taking a potion?"

"Nonsense my dear, regardless, it's part of the contract. After the issues Narcissa had with conceiving, Mr. Malfoy insisted that he didn't want to waste any time securing an heir. Now, finish your drink, the ceremony is to start within the hour." Astoria did as she was told, finishing her drink. Even as she heard her mother's heels clicking against the marble floor as she walked away, Astoria knew that it would be pointless to protest her demands now. It wouldn't matter if she finished the wine now or not, Astoria suspected that by the end of the night her mother would have given her at least another dose of fertility potion.

Turning back towards the window and looking back out into the grounds, Astoria was quick to notice the stark white head of hair rushing away from the manor being followed by another. Moving closer to the glass, Astoria squinted her eyes, knowing that even if Draco or his companion were to look directly into the window, he wouldn't be able to see her due to the privacy wards that had been placed for the occasion.

When the other man turned around, almost as if he were checking to see if they were being followed, Astoria easily identified him as Theo Nott. Draco's lifelong friend who had in recent months fallen out of favour with her fiancé, as fighting between the two had been heard by nearly the entire wizarding world during one particularly bad row at the Hog's Head. When Draco turned back, motioning for Theo to follow him into the maze, the brunette's pace quickened until he'd reached Draco.

The pair disappeared from sight, leaving Astoria to wonder what that could ever be about…

ooo

"Where is he!?" Astoria shouted at the healer; her teeth gritted as she pushed with everything in her. "He works at the bloody hospital! It shouldn't be that difficult to get my husband in my room!"

"We're trying to find him, my lady. I swear it," the assistant healer said as she dabbed Astoria's forehead with a damp cloth. A sob ripped from her as the door slammed open and there stood Draco, his hair a mess, a flush on his neck, his collar skewed, and his healer robes nowhere to be seen. Had she really been able to take in his appearance, she would have noticed the dark bruise left on his neck that he uncovered when he removed his outer robes.

"Tori? What's, you're not due for another four weeks." Draco's rushed words as she let out another cry at the pain from the contractions. "Is everything alright with the baby?" He was now speaking to the midwife between Astoria's legs. Astoria narrowed her eyes at her husband, his absence during their first Valentine's Day as a couple had been noticed by everyone. That was until Astoria's water had broken while she played a third wheel to Daphne and Marcus, under the guise that she'd wanted to spend time with her niece for her first birthday.

When asked where Draco was, Astoria had simply stated that her husband wasn't able to get away from work, holding little Valentina, despite that she wasn't exactly keen on children. Truth be told, Astoria didn't even know if Draco had truly had to work, he'd said he did, and Astoria just believed him. Though now looking at the state of her husband, she would have questioned it more if she'd been in the right state of mind.

"Mrs. Malfoy, I'm going to need you to give one last big push, alright? I can see the baby's head, just one more push and you'll get to meet your son." A son, exactly as Mr. Malfoy had wanted.

Tucking her chin to her chest, Astoria yelled, trying to push the baby from her womb with everything she had. And just like that the pressure was gone and the room filled with a wailing sound as the baby was placed on her chest. Bringing her hands up to keep the boy from falling, Astoria looked down at the matted white hair stained with blood from the birth. Dropping her head back, she let out a sigh of relief knowing that this child would most likely be her first and last that she'd birth.

"He's, he's perfect." Draco's whispered words brought Astoria back to the room they were in and as she looked up at her husband, she couldn't help but smile back at him. His eyes, they'd always been a weakness of hers. And the dimple that she'd never noticed before today, as he gave her the first genuine smile of her life.

"Well of course he is, he's a Malfoy," she answered chuckling. The interaction with Draco had distracted her to the point that Astoria hadn't even noticed the healers cleaning her up and disposing of her after birth.

A soft, 'we'll give you three some privacy' was whispered and the room cleared out. If Astoria had looked up to see the door being closed, she would have noticed a piercing blue gaze staring in on the new little family.

ooo

"You got me a trip for our anniversary, and you don't plan on going with me?" An elf appeared at her side, offering an awake Scorpius to Astoria, but she waved her hand dismissing the pair. "Surely you can take some time away from work. You ended your paternity leave early for Salazar's sake because they needed you back. Surely, they can give you at least a month away to celebrate with me."

The tips of his ears turning pink, something that always happened when Draco was uncomfortable or nervous, didn't go unnoticed. "I just thought you might enjoy a break. I even bought a home in Seville large enough that Daphne can join you if you want."

"And what of the boy? You expect him to come with me?" Astoria crossed her arms over her chest, her eyebrow raised.

"What? No, of course not. Mipsy can help with him while I'm at work like she already does." The bright red splotches on his checks gave away a lie that Astoria couldn't detect. "Honestly, Stori," she knew that he wasn't wanting her to pry when he called her that, "go enjoy a month away. You've earned it. I know the pregnancy wasn't easy on you, and I'm just trying to show you how much I appreciate the mother of my heir."

Astoria let out a sigh and smiled at her husband. She was being paranoid and there was no reason for it. Draco wasn't hiding anything, and if he was keeping information from her, that was his right as the Lord of the house. Even with his father still alive, he was in Azkaban and had been stripped of his titles and positions. She stood from the vanity that she'd been seated at in her chambers and walked to where he'd stayed in the doorway. Going up on her toes, because even with her height Draco still stood a bit taller than her, Astoria brushed her lips against his jaw.

"Thank you, dear husband, I love you, Draco," she whispered the words against his skin. Even before saying them, she knew that he wouldn't echo them back as he never had. A nod of his head was all she received before he slipped back into the hallway.

Going back to her vanity and pulling out her brush to continue working on her hair, Astoria smiled at her reflection. Enjoying the knowledge that even though her life might not be the love story she'd read in books, it was as perfect as reality could get.
