When Sonic entered the fire temple, it was extra hot, but he didn't mind. The Goron tunic was working great and he didn't feel the heat at all. Sonic found himself in a chamber of blocks made of molten rock with lava down below. He found Scarlet Scorch standing on the far side of the big chamber. She was waving her arms at Sonic. "Hi, brother!" She called. "You look great with that heat resistant tunic on, but now is not the time to talk about that. I need your help. Ten gorons are trapped somewhere in the temple. There are eleven in all, but only one managed to escape." She took a deep breath. "I've got Volvagia sealed in the room behind me, but you've got to save the gorons, Sonic, as my sworn brother. Please!"

"Okay," said Sonic. "But who's Volvagia?"

"Volvagia is a fire breathing dragon who eats gorons," said Scarlet Scorch. "I can keep him sealed in this room that I'm guarding to buy you some time. But the only one who can fight Volvagia and save Hyrule from becoming a burning wasteland is you, Sonic. Once you've rescued the gorons and you're ready to fight Volvagia, come back and see me. Oh, but be sure you've got the legendary hammer first before speaking with me. Swords can't hurt this dragon, but the megaton hammer can. It's super heavy and you can kill Volvagia easily and quickly with it. Plus, it's fire resistant."

"Whoa, that's a lot of info," said Sonic. "But thanks, Scarlet. I'll do my best." That made Scarlet Scorch smile. She waved to Sonic as he headed off to another room of the temple. Sonic found the first Goron in a cage on the lowest level in the temple. "Oh, thank you, brother," said the Goron before he headed back to Goron City. "Scarlet said only one Goron was able to escape," Sonic said to himself. "That Goron must have been Junior without a doubt." When Sonic reached the next floor, he found the second Goron. The task seemed pretty easy. "Sonic, thank you," said the Goron before heading back to Goron City. Sonic headed to the next floor which was the main room of the temple. He saw Scarlet Scorch still guarding the door. The hedgehog made his way to the other side of the chamber and climbed to the lowest floor again. "Two gorons down, ugh! Eight more to go," said Sonic to himself wearily. Sonic could hardly believed that he had saved two gorons so far. He soon found the third Goron in a cage after battling his way through a fire maze. "Oh, thank you, brother," said the Goron after Sonic rescued him. "I thought I was a goner." He headed back to Goron City and Sonic once again headed to the second floor. This time, he had to evade a giant boulder that kept rolling around. When he finally made it past it, the little hedgehog managed to find the fourth Goron. "Brother, you saved my skin," said the Goron. "Hold on. Do gorons actually have skin?" Asked Sonic. The Goron chuckled. "You're funny. Yes, we gorons do have skin. But our skin is so thick, it makes us fire proof."

"Interesting stuff," noted Sonic as the Goron left for Goron City. Sonic went to the fourth floor where he found Goron number five. "Oh, brother, you saved me!" He said happily as Sonic motioned him to leave the temple and go back to Goron City. He exited the room and entered another room on the other side of the fourth floor. When he got there, he found Goron number six. "Oh, phew! I thought I was a goner. Thanks, Sonic," said the Goron as he left for Goron City. Sonic waved after him and went up to the fifth floor. When he got there, he found Goron number seven. "There you go," Sonic panted as he unlocked the cage. "Brother, let me thank you for saving my life," said the Goron as he left for Goron City. Sonic was getting tired, but he shook off his doubt and bravely raced to the other side of the fifth floor where he found Goron number eight. "Here you go," said Sonic, tired but triumphant. "You're doing great, brother," said the Goron proudly. "Scarlet Scorch will be proud of you."

"I know she will," said Sonic. "Now go to Goron City where you'll be safe." As the Goron did, Sonic sighed. He only had two more gorons left to rescue, but he was getting tired. So Sonic yawned and took a rest, but not for long. "Wake up, Sonic!" Said Navi, pouring a bucket of icy water on his head. That woke him up and cooled him down. "Sorry, Navi," said Sonic. "I just wanted to rest for a minute. But you're right. I mustn't give up. I only have two more gorons left to rescue and then, hopefully, Scarlet Scorch will be a sage and help me defeat Ganondorf." And with that, Sonic raced up to the sixth floor, where he found the ninth Goron. He had almost saved them all. He opened the cage using a nearby key he had found in a nearby chest. "Thank you, brother, for saving my skin," said the Goron. "Keep up the good work and Scarlet Scorch might consider doing whatever it is you want from her."

"Ha ha, very funny," chuckled Sonic. "All I want is for Scarlet Scorch to be a sage and help me battle Ganondorf." The Goron only gave Sonic a thumbs-up before leaving for Goron City where he was sure to be safe. Just as Sonic was pondering where to find the last Goron, he heard some commotion from the floor above him. "Huh?" Sonic said. He raced up to the highest level of the fire temple which was floor seven where he found a volcano goddess standing in front of a circle of fire she had made. Sonic was sure he could see the last Goron trapped inside. "Not another step, hedgehog!" Said the fire goddess. "I am Mighty Inferno! I trapped this big Goron inside the circle of fire to cook for Volvagia, my pet dragon, who is sealed away by Scarlet Scorch. Now prepare to meet you match!" And she blasted fire at him, but Sonic dodged out of the way. Mighty Inferno tried to blast Sonic again, but he was too quick for her and kept dodging her attacks. Luckily, Navi had an idea about how to stop her. She filled another bucket of icy water with her magic and motioned Sonic to come over. "Soon, you shall be no more, hedgehog!" Said Mighty Inferno as she blasted at Sonic again. But Sonic dodged out of the way again and rolled right next to Navi. Grabbing the bucket of icy water from her, Sonic raced past Mighty Inferno, using his Hylian Shield to block her fire attacks and, he poured the bucket of water over the circle of fire, putting it out. "No! What?" Shouted Mighty Inferno. "I don't think you know this," said Sonic. "But gorons are fire-proof. So you can't cook 'em." Mighty Inferno roared in defeat and she disappeared in a cloud of flame which Sonic waved away. He turned to the big Goron. "Hello, sir," he said. "Are you alright?"

"Better than alright, brother," said the Goron. "You saved me. Scarlet Scorch will be most proud of you. I'm Darunia. I used to be the big boss of the gorons. But I'm retired now and Scarlet is the boss of the gorons. She's told me all about your courage and how you unblocked a cave seven years ago to give us all access to our favourite that can only be found in that cave."

"I think you mean Dodongo's Cavern," said Sonic. "That's right," said Darunia. "I wish I had something to give you as a reward for saving me and the other gorons." Sonic noticed a chest in the corner. Curiously, he walked over to it and opened it. He saw an extremely heavy hammer and grunted when he picked it up. "Swords can't hurt this dragon, but the megaton hammer can." Sonic remembered Scarlet Scorch telling him that, so he told Darunia to go to Goron City and he raced to the main floor to see Scarlet Scorch once more. Scarlet saw the megaton hammer and she felt slightly relieved. "Sonic, you've got the megaton hammer! Good job," she said. "Now I will step aside so you can go forth to battle Volvagia. By defeating him, you will save the gorons." She moved aside and Sonic hopped across the molten rock blocks towards her. "Be careful, Sonic, and I wish you the best of luck," said Scarlet Scorch. She raced out of the fire temple and Sonic took a deep breath and opened the door she'd been guarding. With another determined exhale and a big stretch, Sonic raced inside the boss chamber.
