Chapter 5
Slowly, Merida began to walk backwards. Because, standing in front of her, where Hiccup had just been, was a large, jet-black dragon. And then she noticed something else. The dragon's emerald green eyes. The same color as Hiccup's. Merida was terrified. She didn't have her bow with her, and she knew that dragons were hard to kill.
"DRAGON!" she screamed. The dragon looked around, not seeing anything, and then looked down at the ground. Its eyes went wide. And suddenly it was running towards a nearby pond. Curious, Merida followed. The dragon reached the water and looked down at its reflection. Its eyes widened again, and its front claws flew up to its face. Merida noticed the strange way it was acting and realized something.
"Hiccup?" she said. The dragon's head whipped around to face her at the mention of the name. "Hiccup is that you?" Slowly, the dragon nodded its head. Merida gasped. "What have I done?" she muttered under her breath. Hiccup looked around, studying his transformation. He let out a low rumbling sound as he lay down and covered his head with his wings. Merida moved closer, and Hiccup groaned. He swept his tail around, knocking Merida off her feet.
He knows I did this to him. Merida thought.
"Hiccup, I didn't mean for this to happen." Merida said, trying to sound as sincere as possible. He lifted one wing. "I'm sorry." He stood up and gave her another low rumble. Merida realized that the sun was going down. "Stay here for the night." She told Hiccup. "I'll come back in the morning." Hiccup found a concealed spot, and walked in a circle slowly, sending small flames out from his mouth. Once the ground was warm enough, he lay down and went to sleep.
