Chapter 11

Fergus' hunting dogs were tracking down Hiccup. He was flying, but somehow, they could still track him.

One of Merida's brothers threw the key through the window of the door. She ran down the stairs as fast as possible, the tapestry draped over her shoulders like a cape. Luckily, angus was still in the stable. She climbed onto his back, desperately trying to get to Hiccup before Stoick killed him.

Hiccup reached the circle of stones, and suddenly, a bola hit him, tying his wings down. He crashed down right in the center of the circle, and people surrounded him. Ropes flew, tying up his legs and tail, and one ended up around his neck. Everyone pulled on the ropes hard enough that Hiccup ended up lying on the ground with all four legs splayed out in different directions. Meanwhile, Merida was desperately trying to sew the tapestry as she rode. Suddenly, the wisps appeared. Angus changed course to follow them. When Merida reached the circle of stones, she saw Hiccup, tied down with ropes, Stoick holding an axe, and Fergus holding a sword. She shot two arrows, knocking the weapons out of their hands, and jumped in front of Hiccup, another arrow ready to fire.

"I won't let you kill him." She looked back at Hiccup. "Are you hurt?"

"That dragon killed my son!" Stoick yelled.

"That dragon is your son, Stoick. Look at his eyes!" Merida yelled back. Fergus pushed her aside, and someone shoved a wooden spear in front of her. Angered, she slipped out from underneath and grabbed another person's sword. Fergus was about to bring his sword down on Hiccup's neck, but Merida blocked him. She pushed his sword aside and sliced off his peg leg. He fell backwards.

"I won't let you kill him." She repeated. Suddenly, there was a loud roar from behind Fergus. Hiccup whimpered. "Mor'du." Merida said. The large green and red dragon was standing there, looking straight at Merida.

"Kill it!" Fergus yelled. Everyone ran forward, weapons at the ready. Mor'du let out a large torrent of flames and began swatting at people with his large talons. Merida shot two arrows into his neck, but he swiped at her, barely missing. She fell backwards, and Mor'du stood over her, his jaws open wide. Feeling all his pent-up rage build, Hiccup let out a ferocious roar, and broke free of all the ropes holding him down. He roared again and barreled into Mor'du, shoving him off of Merida. The dragons flew up and battled in the sky, shooting flames at each other. Hiccup used the dark, night sky to his advantage. Mor'du couldn't see him. The people down below watched as the sky was lit up with Hiccup's purple plasma blasts. However, Mor'du was getting angry. He sprayed flames in every direction, and the brightness revealed Hiccup's location. Mor'du roared as his talons slashed down Hiccup's back. Hiccup roared in pain. Suddenly, everyone heard thunder. Hiccup roared one final time as a lightning bolt streaked down from the sky and hit Mor'du, shredding his wings. Hiccup shot one more plasma blast at Mor'du, sending him crashing into the stone that Hiccup and Merida had run into earlier. But then, Merida realized that one of Hiccup's wings had been slashed.

"He's going to fall!" she yelled. And suddenly, he did, slamming into the grass. He groaned and closed his eyes. Merida ran to him and cradled his head in her arms. But suddenly, Mor'du stood up and stalked towards them. Merida grabbed a spear from nearby, and held it up, but the giant stone collapsed, crushing Mor'du underneath it. A blue, wisp-like shape rose from the stone. It took the shape of a man, who nodded at Merida, before turning into a wisp and vanishing. Merida looked back towards Hiccup. His eyes were open. Suddenly Merida realized the sun was rising. "The second sunrise!" she gasped. She ran to Angus, grabbed the tapestry, and threw it over Hiccup. He groaned softly, but nothing happened. His pupils narrowed, and he growled. "No!" Merida gasped. "I don't understand, I…" she trailed off and broke into tears. Everyone was watching, and suddenly, Stoick threw off his helmet and dropped to his knees.

"I'm sorry, son. For everything." Hiccup groaned again.

"Oh, Hiccup. I'm sorry. This is all my fault. I did this to you. To us." Hiccup stood up. He winced in pain and growled again. Merida hugged him. "You were there for me. You never gave up on me. I just want you back. I love you, Hiccup." the sun burst over the ground, illuminating the tapestry. Suddenly, Merida felt a hand run through her hair. She gasped and looked up. Hiccup smiled. He looked around, and his eyes landed on Stoick. He took a step backwards.

"It's okay." Merida reassured him. "you're human again." Stoick pulled Hiccup into a tight hug, and Hiccup winced. Stoick had obviously forgotten his injuries.

"I-sorry." Stoick said. Hiccup smiled.

"it's okay, dad." He pulled the tapestry tighter around himself and let out an awkward giggle. "Could I get some clothes?" Merida laughed. She smiled, and then realized something.

"I never chose a suitor." She said, looking at her father. She turned back to Hiccup. "Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, you have won my hand by skill of Dragon Fighting." Hiccup smiled, and Merida smiled back. She took his hand, and they walked back to the castle.

The end.
